Maclean’s Magazine Reviews

I have had a paid subscription to Maclean’s for over a year. No problems. However, last night When I tried to download the current issue, the download button did not appear. Instead, the Sign in to your account” button appeared. As I have a digital subscription, I do not have a subscription number to use to sign in. I contacted Maclean’s customer service, but their solution was for me to call Apple. I tried to tell Maclean’s customer service that the information in my Maclean’s account indicated that I was paid through June 25. Nevertheless, I called Apple and it was confirmed I had an open subscription to Maclean’s. I have emailed Maclean’s several times to advise them that my account was good but nothing has been done on their end to remedy the situation. So, I am paying for a subscription that I cannot access. The magazine is 5 stars. Customer service, not so much.

How do I get any support for problems? My app is not downloading any content. I have a good wifi connection, so the communications link is not the problem. The store does not show any covers, but it does show the issue dates and download buttons. Downloads do not work. I have deleted and reinstalled MacleansMagazine several times with no luck, however it registers my subscription just fine. I have used MacleansMagazine for 3 months with little problem, but this problem showed up this week when attempting to access the new issue.

On both iPhone and iPad MacleansMagazine worked very well - and as clear as the print version. Easy to locate articles, intuitive scrolling, excellent graphics.

Then they upgraded MacleansMagazine in July. Maybe it still works for those with subscriptions directly with Macleans, but for my iPhone and iPad and an iTunes subscription, I can get zero access. If I restore purchases, I only get 2017 purchases, none of 2018. I have paid for 2018 and read through June, my iTunes account lists my subscription as active, but no matter how many times I delete and reload MacleansMagazine , no success. Contacting Macleans customer support - does get a response, but basically to just hold tight, it will get fixed ...

If it gets fixed, I will update review. I miss my Canada updates!

Does not recognize my account number or my current subscription. Who do I talk to to fix this? Just because Macleans updates its software, why do i need to go through all this hassle to get what I had before they started?

I'm a regular Maclean's Magazine Reader. When I bought my New iPad (3rd generation), I decided to activate my subscription. The activation went quickly, and I could download the latest issue. There were no problems downloading the issues, and when a new one was available it was downloaded automatically (no problems again). The magazine was formatted as it is in print. Everything was fine until I started reading... THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR THE NEW iPad's RETINA DISPLAY. The text looked awful. It wasn't that visible unless you hold the iPad TEN INCHES from your eyes. Maclean's Magazine Crew: Please add support for the Retina Display on the New iPad... And then I'll rate it 5 stars!

Switched to a digital subscription thinking this would do the job. Many nice elements however MacleansMagazine is ruined by the overly intrusive ads that seem impossible to exit out of. Latest example was an iPhone 6 ad which was designed to show off the photography of the device. Swiping left and right brought more ad photo examples. The "tap at top for menu" function is disabled. I get that for a second or two but when you are scrambling around for a solid minute trying to get out of the freaking ad it gets more than frustrating. Exited out of MacleansMagazine . Hard closed it, opened it up again to find I am still in the ad. No thanks.

Every time MacleansMagazine is updated I lose all of my account data. This has unfortunately happened every time. MacleansMagazine , when you can actually get at the information is nicely presented but getting such access is both a pain and a chore. Customer service is unresponsive to digital problems. MacleansMagazine is not yet ready for prime time. When they get the login and update stability issue fixed i will revisit the review and maybe change my rating. Until then I hold little hope for a resolution to he access issues.

Used to use older versions of macleans app on an iPad 1 and was happy with them. Stopped using an ipad for about a year. Just got a new iPad retina display. Magazines downloaded when I open them the pages show in thumbnails fine but when I open a page just pictures with no captions and black space where the articles should be. Come on macleans stop hiring laid off rim employees if you don't want to go backwards in technology. Oh yeah and thanks the refund on my cancelled print subscription will help pay for the new iPad.

I have turned my iPad off and restarted it. I have gone to settings and told it to update my library, to reset my subscription. Nothing works! My library is gone. It wants me to repurchase every issue I've already paid for and the current issue that should still be covered by my subscription. What the heck?!? This is useless. I'll be asking for my subscription money refunded completely if this isn't fixed soon because every issue has been taken away from me.

I want to echo a previous review. Why can't MacleansMagazine keep my subscriber number from one issue to the next? If you want the next edition you must delete your macleans subscriber Id. It took a while to figure out what I had to do but that review clued me in. What a pain! Make this a priority in the next release please! I gave it 3 stars because of this annoyance.

It works - big upgrade right there! I like the new navigation. Things are faster. Well done!

The text on the magazine pages looks terrible on the new iPad. It needs to be rewritten to use Apple's APIs to properly render text on the retina display. The downloads are also huge compared to other magazines. I hope there is an update coming soon. Since I paid for a subscription specifically for the electronic version, I'm disappointed.

Each time Macleans has "upgraded" there have been problems. This time I can't find my library, it is trying to make me pay for issues I have already paid for and there is no contact info to get help.

When you hit the "Restore Purchases" button it asks for your password and comes back with "this is not a test account. Please create a new account in the Sandbox environment".

You should be embarrassed.

Good magazine, terrible app.
I've had nothing but problems trying to get this to work reliably. Editions will download, but are un-viewable; my account goes into limbo for no reason and I stop getting updates; I get an error telling me to email support @ Rogers and i get a reply that my account doesn't exist, so I email MacLean's support and get no reply at all. I'd ask for my money back, but I'm not sure who to ask! Just horrible. Avoid at all costs.

I can't imagine being without it. The website, too, is clean, crisp and edifying

I don't know what other reviewers are reacting to. On my 4s MacleansMagazine works very well.

Very disappointed. Upgrade to 5.0 failed. Blank screen with msg "Cannot update library, an error has occured"
Lost all issues. When trying Settings get msg "Remove issues from iPad"
Macleans needs professional help to fix this. I contacted Macleans.
They refered me to Apple. Apple said Macleans is responsible to update their app so it is compatible with iOS7.0.3. Catch22

Latest issue will not download - very frustrating. I have deleted app, deactivated account and started over but still no luck. Loved it when it worked.

You are all too aware of your update issues from the many reviews on this subject. When are you going to get this figured out and get it right. Long time user - extremely frustrated.
