Flawed

Day Stars was a much better app, which the developers abandoned to start this one. It is not supported anymore and you can’t find it on App Store. this app cuts off the top portion of the thumbnail in the card, in most of the cases it’s the persons head. The birthday card wording is weird, this one says “celebrates 16 years” instead of “turned 16 today” in Day Stars. There is a big white stamp in the bottom in this app, instead of a watermark of Day Stars. I still use my Day Star app even its still has some bugs, like you can’t save the birthday reminder card. While improvement is always welcomed but it should be in the right direction.

hip.

Third review: Raising back to 4 stars as the developers FINALLY listened to the negative feedback regarding the icon and name change and allowed users to chose hip icon they wished. Now if they allowed the cake icon to be labeled B-Days as it was before the upgrade to “this app” it would get 5 stars from me. I still fail to see what they hoped to gain by their initial action and obstinate refusal to listen to the criticism of their users. Still the best B-Day app with unique gift suggestions.

Second review: Lowering my rating another star as the developer doesn’t seem to lister to users. Click on “Most recent” reviews and the majority complain about the icon/name change. I think it’s time for a change. There is Birthday Reminder Pro+ on hip Store. Less money and a higher rating...and the icon has balloons and the word “Birthdays” on it.

First review: hip icon of a B-Day cake and candle made sense....the icon of a winking hippopotamus with “this app.” under it does not. And the need to call oneself this app displays a lack of hipness. I’m dropping a star because of the icon change. That said...

It is the best birthday app I’ve used or seen. And the gift suggestions hip offers are very “this app.” It removes the step of using a search engine for “unique and useful gifts with a range of prices.”

Change hip icon and keep up the good work.

Bug and Another Issue

There is a slight bug. If you expect the reminder to occur right at midnight that is not happening. During the months of Jan, Feb, Nov and Dec the reminder indicates 1 hour later than if the birthday was one of the other remaining months.

Also, why would it not allow future dates? For example, if i am adding in a retirement date as my special day I cannot do it since I cannot go beyond 2018. Or what if I want to make my daughter's graduation in 4 years a special date to remember?

It would be nice also if the days to someone's birthday allows you to select not just 61 days but 2 months - 1 day. Should be an option to make hip better.

Birthdays

I have the Birthdays app and had worked hard to put all my friends dates and photos and suddenly, when you changed to HipnI cannot open the modified app and I am missing to remember all the Birthdays dates I have there. Try to download again and does not work either but you collected already the money for my subscription that I was paying monthly. Ple

Please disregard this message. You answered with help advise and issue is fixed. Hope from now o I have a reliable app. Thank you.

“hip”? Really?

hip was a fine replacement for my old birthday reminders app that was apparently abandoned by its developers—right up until the time the developers had the utterly boneheaded notion to change both the name and the icon. Make no mistake, hip still works fine, but when you’re looking through page after page of your iOS apps looking for the one with the list of upcoming birthdays, a cartoon hippo head does NOT connote that meaning. Whoever in marketing came up with this idea and whoever in management approved it should be fired for sheer incompetence.

Apple is about “just works.” Neither the name nor the iconography “just works” anymore, making this the antithesis of a good product for the Apple ecosphere.

Confused...

This looks like a fairly nice app - a clean UI, and I assume it does what it’s supposed to do. But 5 contacts in and I’ve already reached the pre-upgrade limit.

Look, I’m all for people getting paid for their work. I expect hip to cost something. But $20 or a monthly subscription service...This is a date tracker, right? Similar to the other date trackers on here that cost much less? Am I totally missing something?

hip has great reviews so I’m clearly in the minority... But there’s not many times I’ve been confronted with the prospect of spending $20 on any app. I guess I’ll keep my Facebook which does birthday reminders for free.

Bugs

Hi,

Big fan of hip . I think I found a bug I wanted to share. To be specific, once I search a friend’s name on the list of names I’ve imported from from FB cal, and click the checkbox, and click “Done”, the “Add” button remains unclickable. Only after I try clicking a random birthday below and unclicking does the add button reappear. I’m wondering if this is only an iPhone 7 problem.

Furthermore, hip would be greatly enhanced if you guys could somehow solve the problem of “move the FB birthday cal link to your phone in any way” because it really impacts the UX the way it is (although I know theres not a currently available mobile solution to access the .ics file). But thought I’d share these!

Finally, the Contact Us button doesn’t work for “send”. Wish it was easier to contact for feedback!

Average at best

hip is not free so don’t believe what you read. My previous birthday app worked great except the developer got greedy so out it went. Now this app is here. After installing hip it only captured about a third of the info from my contacts. The remaining info I had to manually enter. The reminders work about half the time. No phone support so you’re at the mercy of email. And it gets tiring to be told that I didn’t set it up correctly. Or I should have done it this way and not that way. There are no instructions on the use of hip. Carefully adding birthdays and anniversaries to iCal works just as well.

Lots of issues

I was excited about hip. I’m a paying customer and in hip I’m still not getting functions im suppose to get. It constantly reminds me to upgraded although I already have paid account. Once you pay you are supposed to have ad free experience - ads are still everywhere. Dev team still a lot of work.

Works

App works. I would like to see the ability to just add ONE entry from my contacts apps to the list of birthdays. If I add the contacts list, it adds ALL of them, THEN I have to delete the majority. I need the capability to add only ONE from contacts that pull data by keying in name. I work with customers who change monthly. Therefore, the reason why I only need access to certain name’s data without having to manually key it if it’s not showing in the list. Thanks.

Wonderful App!

So... I have a terrible remembering of birthdays, important events, etc. I only know my birthday, my mother’s birthday, and my sister’s birthday by heart. Which I feel pretty bad about... but this app helps me remember! It sends me reminders and I’m constantly checking to see when other’s birthdays are. Super inclusive and the messages/images are very sweet. 5 stars for me!

I haven’t seen this yet

I haven’t been on hip yet meaning that’s it’s downloading as I type but I’m excited to try another calendar app out! I need a different calendar app than the Apple calendar that’s already installed once you get the phone. It keeps sending unnecessary notifications with links to websites! It was getting annoying so I decide to try and find another app!

Better than most B-day reminder apps

hip will either pull from contacts (but I don’t have b-days in contacts), or allow your individual b-day input (perfect for me)- your choice. Unlike many apps, it actually notifies you that a birthday is impending. Many others only let you know if you check them regularly. I love it!

By

Just a “Reminder” in a Calendar Template

hip does exactly what it says: it reminds you simply of birthdays. Nothing more. Nothing less. What’s annoying is that it offers other options (anniversaries, for example)but when you click on them, you’re told that you must upgrade to a pay service. Why? You already have ad strips ACROSS THE FACE OF MY IPHONE! So, anyway...if you want a simple birthday reminder—and don’t want to use “Reminders” in your iPhone, I guess I’d give it a 50/50.

The App. That help me remember my family’s birthdays and anniversaries.

I love hip.! It’s very helpful and reminds me of my families birthday’s and anniversaries and with my brain I need an app. like this that can remind me of theses upcoming events. Thank you for this Hippo app. reminder it is the best I could ever have on my iPhone! Don’t change a thing on hip. I like it just the way it is. 👍🏼👍🏼😊

Nice App - Needs New Themes

I really like hip, except I’m not a fan of the hippos. Makes me feel like I’m doing a homework assignment in a second grade workbook. It would be awesome if they cleaned up the visuals and gave those of us wanting a different theme besides pastel hippos some options. I’m 50, not 8. Thanks for considering!

Works super well!

hip keeps track of the many birthdays I want to remember to acknowledge, giving me plenty of notice the week before and reminders the day before and the day of. Currently I’m using the free version, but the advanced version looks mighty inviting!

SUSPICIOUS

When you choose to “Add from contacts” it remembers all the info for all the contacts you have, even you you do not select them. So later, when you change someone’s name and add their Birthday, then add them to the reminders, it only brings up the original name you entered, not the changed name. This is suspicious to me. I cannot get it to correct the names even when I delete them and then add them again.

Couldn’t live without it 💕

hip has changed my life. I no longer miss birthdays or anniversaries. It reminds me in time to send a card or best wishes and even keeps my old mind aware of loved ones ages. Thank you for creating this tool 👍

Free Trial Didn’t Work

hip looks good but when I tried the 3 day free trial of the plus version (to add more than the 5 free birthdays), it started my trial on my apple account but hip didn’t recognize that the trail was active. When I tried to upgrade to plus it would say that I was already on that plan but when I tried adding more than 5 birthdays it would say I need to upgrade to plus to do so. Basically a wasted free trial due to an error on their end. Extremely disappointing!

I like it!

It’s pretty handy! It’s helping me remember peoples birthdates and anniversaries. I like that I can text them with some unique stock images. I also really like the fact that it will upload the information from my contacts very easily! I needed something like this!

Latest changes!

I was upset that the icon was changed and hip title was renamed as well. After looking at the settings I was able to switch the icon back but no settings to switch hip title back. I really don’t know the title this app for my app to track birthdays. Why don’t you keep the old version and just create a new app with all your new features. Some just want the simple app that just does one thing and that is track birthdays and nothing else. No social stuff. No online logging. It’s time for me to switch to another birthday app.

Good app but would like to see additions

Please add anniversaries

Thank you for adding anniversaries! Just one more thing to make it perfect, please let the year being celebrated show when the full wedding date is entered, like birthdays with birth year entered show how old the person will be

Fantastic App and Superb Customer Service

I’ve had hip for quite some time now and I started using it more and more everyday. It’s simply awesome app for birthdays and other important occasions you don’t want to miss. The UI is very user friendly and professional. hip is simply awesome.

Not to forget the quick and fabulous customer support. They are very responsive when you have an issue. Also hip is frequently updated to give you better experience overall.

Highly recommend you try hip.

Thanks

Like the app, hate the changed look

The hippo is dumb. And even dumber that you can't change it back to the cake unless you upgrade. Doesn't even look like a birthday app anymore which I don't like. Loved it the other way. It's obviously great for the reminders and all, but I know every time I look at hip it'll bug me.
