Awkward and difficult to figure out

I travel a lot and use transit and transit apps all around the world. I found this one unusually complicated. This is great for people who take the same bus every day. You create a trip and save it, then all you have to do is click on that trip for real time info. Fantastic. For a tourist who doesn't know the area it's a nightmare to use. What I wanted was an app that would pop up with a map, I'd click on the stop I was at and see when the next buses would arrive. If it's possible with TripView, I didn't figure out how to do it. In the end, I was usually able to get the information I needed, but it required lots of keystrokes, and you would have to know your general destination. Please make one where you can just put in a stop number and see the real time arrivals. For visitors, I would rate this as way too complicated, for locals it's going to work well assuming you travel the same basic routes.

Needs improvement

TripView doesn't stand alone if you don't know where you are going. You still need to rely on something like google maps and for this to be a really helpful app, it needs to include a feature that allows you to look up your route, otherwise you are just juggling between multiple apps

Always 2 minutes off

It’s great for getting the bus times, but not always reliable. It consistently says my bus leaves 2 minutes later than it does. I know to arrive much earlier otherwise if I depended on the time it gives I would miss my bus which is quite frustrating!

Lacking functionality

Wish this had some of the functionality that opal travel app has. Specifically wish I could enter start and end points rather than have to tell TripView which route I want to take.

When Switched Off

Usually this app works well, unless there is a “malfunction” at the driver’s end. I think that something it is switched off for a while? If this is the case, when one checks the times it won’t provide an update.
Sometimes the stated time will show up, but it doesn’t allow passengers to track the bus. Then, out of the blue, the bus WILL turn up when it hasn’t shown up on TripView .
I hope this explains the situation, which can be very frustrating, especially if one has decided to go to a different bus stop etc.
Thank you.

Nearly perfect

This is the most useful app on my iPod Touch. It works offline, and will also work through multiple stops (including busses, trains and ferries) and includes accounting for missing the closest connection at that given stop on the way. It only has one downside and that's the map access. Updating the city/stop map when offline (as is the case of the iPod Touch when on foot) is extremely limited. If it had its own build in map of the Sydney area, it would be absolutely perfect. But as it is it is definitely worth the purchase.

Absolutely brilliant- now please add brisbane

I loved TripView. It has everything you need and is so user friendly. Used it when I lived in Sydney and then moved to Melbourne. Thought the world ended when I couldn’t use TripView anymore. The developer than added Melbourne. Amazing.
Sadly I’m now in Brisbane. Any possibility to add the Brisbane transit system? I have the fully paid version and I can’t use it anymore. Crying camel tears!!! 4 stars only because it’s super amazing but has no brisbane.

love this app!

have been using the full app for prob 7+ years & love it.. happily recommend to anyone..

App of the Decade

Update: several years later and I still use TripView daily. It's the reason to own an iOS device in Sydney. This is seriously the most practical and useful app I own, and it works great.

OP: If you live in or are traveling to Sydney, this is a must have application. I'm surprised that the developer hasn't adapted it other cities as well.

It's seriously amazing.

Simply Superb!

For me, this is THE most useful app on my iPhone. I rely on public transport to go wherever I need, & it is just so incredibly useful to be able to quickly check when I have to get to the bus stop or train station to catch my bus or train. The bus route map is also incredibly useful : no more asking around if bus 123 will go to Parramatta or not. Personally, I would have been happy to pay even $100 for TripView , and at $3 it's an absolute bargain.

All time great app

One of the classics. Just a great design.

Super ups to date across vic and NsW

Use it for Syd buses and Melb regional rail.
Trust it. Rely it, use it daily

Best app ever

The amount of time TripView has saved me is countless. So awesome. Best app I’ve ever used.

The best

If you live in Sydney, you already own TripView.

If you don’t, you should.

Been using this app for years, it great but...

How about storing my trips on the cloud so they can synchronize between iPhone, iPad, and watch?

Nice interface

I really like the way you can get the times so easily, but I do find it time-consuming to find the schedules. It's hard to go through the bus numbers.

Awesome app

I just moved to Sydney from the States. I live in the city and don’t own a car so I take public transportation for everything. TripView makes it so easy to figure out how to move around without the hassle of trying to read the maps.

10 years and no slowing down!

I’ve been using TripView for approximately 10 years and it’s always been a quality experience and well done.

I went and checked to be sure and confirmed that I first started using TripView in November 2009. Ages ago yet so recent.

Functionality and coverage is perfect for Sydney. Would suggest that overview maps for Melbourne trams and trains be included for that region as it is in TripView for Sydney trains.

Everyone using public transport in Sydney and Melbourne should be using TripView. And tourists should be told about TripView in every travel blog.

A great app - keeps getting better & better

This is a must have app for commuters & travellers in Sydney. It's well designed, has lots of well thought out features and the attention to detail is terrific.

The new version has train platform numbers now - thank you so much! I now know which platform to dash to. And the service interruption alerts are great too.

It would be ambitious but including all private ferry & bus network timetables would make this a 10-star app!

It's shameful that the state transit authorities didn't develop something like this first but kudos to the developer for filling the gap.
