Way more trouble than convenience

2025-01-01

I got 1000HoursOutside hoping it would be easier than physically tracking my family’s hours in a paper, but it’s actually not been helpful at all. If I forget to start the timer right when we go out, there’s no way to adjust the start time. And there’s no way for me to add an hour for one child and two for another if I miss it - I can either do one child or the same amount of time for both - and then if I want to spend more time outside later, I can only edit that before time instead of add another hour or two. It became so complicated, I had to stop trying after a week and I’m back to my paper in the kitchen. I’m glad it was only $2, but it was still a waste.

Doesn't accurately track

2025-01-01

This is a great idea in theory, but 1000HoursOutside is proving to be very buggy.

It seems there is a big issue with exiting 1000HoursOutside and coming back to it, whether that's by hitting my home button or even pulling down my notifications bar. I've had it stop tracking and reset to zero. But most often it artificially inflates the time. Just yesterday with each time I pulled my notifications bar down I watched the time jump from 20 minutes to over 7 hours of time.

Disappointed to have bought this and have it not work. Was so excited to join the challenge and have an easy way to keep track of our time.

Not worth it

2025-01-01

I am shocked that there are so many great reviews for 1000HoursOutside. I like that you can track time for more than one person.. but in the calendar view and the “hours this week” view you can only see the hours for the “main account. You should be able to switch between which profile you want to view. You can’t even choose who the main account is. Also the last time I added hours it didn’t update in the individual profiles, so now I feel like I need to write down the hours we spend outside on a piece of paper because this isn’t accurate, defeating the purposes of 1000HoursOutside. I also would have thought that on the timer tab that there would be timers for each individual profile. And with the announcement by Ginny for 2023 I would think that there would be a way to track miles walked, books read, and other goals. 1000HoursOutside isn’t worth spending money on and it doesn’t live up to the needs. Hoping for lots of improvements soon.

Love the program, not the app

2025-01-01

I love the program and have loved how much more time we are spending outside, but this is such a buggy app. It closes out every time I open it, anytime I have to edit hours, the number pad won’t close, so 1000HoursOutside must be restarted, etc. And I was disappointed to find once I subscribed that almost all of the adventure map points are restaurants. Too expensive for that, and unfortunately I purchased the full year before seeing that. That said, we are spending much more time outside and that has been a wonderful benefit. The kids love seeing which new badge they’ve earned!

Unreliable

2025-01-01

Ever since the most recent update 1000HoursOutside has been very inconsistent. We were outside for at least three hours today and 1000HoursOutside said 52 minutes 11 seconds. You also have to have service for the timer to work which is frustrating because many times we are out adventuring where there isn't service. It used to be very easy to toggle between the timer and calendar and now I have to close out of my app completely to get back to the calendar from the timer. Hopefully they will update this again. It worked perfectly perform they updated it

Hit or miss.

2025-01-01

My wife is in to the 1000 hours thing for our kids and wanted me to help her with tracking the kids time this year. 2 issues - can’t sync her phone and mine so possible duplication or missing time. However the main issue is that 1000HoursOutside works great on her phone, but crashes in about 30 seconds on mine no matter what I try. I have rebooted the phone, made sure I had latest IOS updates, deleted and reinstalled. Clearly 1000HoursOutside is very buggy! Much safer bet to just use a basic timer and a piece of paper to track your time!

Remove logged time feature

2025-01-01

I really like 1000HoursOutside but think it could use some updates.
- I love tracking time with multiple profiles they make it super easy. However the numbers aren’t accurate because when I remove time it only comes off of the main account.
- I frequently forget to turn off my timer when we come inside. I think you could easily add a setting to pick your “normal” outdoor time and if the stopwatch is tracking longer than that 1000HoursOutside sends you an alert that asks if you’re still outside.
Thanks!

Love the concept, but could be better

2025-01-01

We are trying to complete 1000 hours outside this year. To pay for 1000HoursOutside you think that the whole app would be better. Every time I open 1000HoursOutside to use the timer and start the timer it ends up closing the whole app out. I end up just tracking on my own how many hours we are logging. In a portion of 1000HoursOutside you can upload photos, but not more than one at a time.

After paying for 1000HoursOutside there is also more in app purchases. If you want to collect bandages along the way, you have to purchase. We purchased the map and needless to say I could of googled most the locations I am at. I really wanted to like 1000HoursOutside, but it has a lot of issues that need to be worked out. Needless to say since this is my New Year’s resolution, I will continue to use to log my hours.

Lacks seemingly obvious features

2025-01-01

For a paid app this should have more.
I would like the ability to see each individual timer entry; The time the timer was started and stopped; And be able to edit individual entries.
If we go out once in the morning and again in the afternoon, but I forget to stop the timer in the afternoon- I have to some now keep track of what was already tracked in the morning and add it to the second entry that I’m trying to edit. 1000HoursOutside should be able to show me all of the data for one day… not just a running total for the day.

Getting there!

2025-01-01

This is a super useful app for our 1kho goals, but it definitely still needs some work when it comes to tracking different profiles. I tried to edit one kiddo’s hours when I accidentally left the timer going and it seems to get confused about edits- I checked his total hours so far and they were definitely more than they should have been, 1000HoursOutside was confused somewhere between the profiles and edits. Looking forward to more improvements but not totally trusting 1000HoursOutside yet and will still use the paper tracker and keep an eye on hours!

Great Idea, Subpar App

2025-01-01

I absolutely love the idea of 1000HoursOutside and have been very pleased with the incentive it offers to spend time outside. Unfortunately, in just the two weeks I’ve been using it I’ve encountered many occasions where 1000HoursOutside glitches and doesn’t record my time. Oftentimes I’ll hit the start button, see the count begin, and leave for my time outside only to come back and find that 1000HoursOutside didn’t record my time. This has been quite frustrating, as I’ll have to estimate my time outside and manually record it. Though 1000HoursOutside is still effective in encouraging me to get outside, I do wish that it would more reliably record my time.

Good but a little buggy

2025-01-01

I like 1000HoursOutside overall to keep track of our hours outside. My four biggest issues are:
1. The timer itself is buggy, I’ve gone to open 1000HoursOutside and stop the timer after an hour or two outside and the timer will show as 00:00 with a start button and I will accidentally reflexively hit it with your realizing it hadn’t yet “updated” to our actual real time count. Sometimes it takes a full minute for the timer to refresh itself after it’s been running in the background a while

2. There’s no app widget available! This would be the perfect thing to add to my Lock Screen for instant access, sometimes I totally forget to start the timer on my phone but I believe a widget start/stop would make this whole thing way easier and enjoyable

3. When in the calendar view if I need to edit a single days time I expected to just click on the square for that day and be able to edit but you have to click on the little tiny clock button that comes up. I overall found a lot of navigating 1000HoursOutside to be confusing.

4. I haven’t yet finished a full month of timing since it’s still January but other users have said that once a month is finished you aren’t shown a “month total” and would have to add up days manually to see how much time you spent outside during one particular month, if this is true this is VERY disappointing! I guess I will find out soon.

Love the idea but missing simple details

2025-01-01

I was so excited to get 1000HoursOutside and couldn’t wait to make the purchase. I’m bummed though. To find my total for a month, I have to go through and manually click each day and add the hours - I’m not seeing how to find a running total aside from the current week’s running total. I’m also frustrated that once I’m past 1 hour in a day, it’s just showing a one on the calendar even though I might have clocked 1.7 hours. Those issues alone make it so that 1000HoursOutside isn’t doing what it was made to do. Am I missing something?

Love this app!

2025-01-01

We just started tracking our hours this year and 1000HoursOutside made it super simple. I have three little kids, so coloring a page daily was a bit overwhelming. I decided to make this purchase and it was very much worth it. I can backtrack hours, add them daily or even start a timer when I go outside. It’s easy to use and makes tracking your outdoor hours simple and not overwhelming. Definitely worth the purchase!

The BEST app for tracking hours, love it!!

2025-01-01

I absolutely love having 1000HoursOutside. It’s so easy, so streamlined, and I love that you can always edit your hours if you make a mistake or miss something. It’s really taken the stress out of tracking for me, and actually it’s helped me be more carefree and check the clock even less… to have an app on a phone that actually makes you use your phone less is a pretty big feat! Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to track their hours outside.

Doesn’t do basic tasks

2025-01-01

I can’t find my history in a list anywhere with details. The calendar shows 2 hours when I have 2.5 in my week history. I can’t go back and look at any other days outside of that week with any detail if I entered it in rather than using the timer. I also did the timer this morning and then manually entered in another outdoor activity in the evening and it erased my timer from the morning. Frustrated I can’t have a detailed list of what I entered so I can look back at it clearly without having to click on every day and even that isn’t accurate.

This app is amazing

2025-01-01

1000HoursOutside has completely made our 1KHO journey SO much easier! I love that I can set and stop the timer easily, edit time if I forget the timer, and that it keeps the running total for us. I keep the times updated on a paper chart, but this is 100% easier than what I was doing last year, which was recording the times on my phone, having to calculate what added up to an hour, and constantly trying to remember what time we left the house. My husband and son even join in by letting me know when to start and stop the timer. Thank you thank you!

Wonderful Outside Tracker!

2025-01-01

I have used 1000HoursOutside for a year now and have been very impressed. I love the option to add a journal entry at the end of every day and pictures along with it. Babies don’t keep and being able to download all of my entries at the end of the year was so heartfelt and brought back so many fun memories of spending time outside with my little one. I would recommend 1000HoursOutside to anyone!

Love it + one critique

2025-01-01

I love 1000HoursOutside and how it encouraged us to be outside more in 2023. Excited to start a new year and “beat” last years hours. One feature I wish 1000HoursOutside had was after stopping a running time, to have the ability to “approve” or edit right there and then. So often I forget to stop the counter when we go inside and then I have to go back into the day’s total time and (😱) do math to correct it. When it’s only been like 5 minutes, it’s no big deal… but I have been known to leave the counter running for many hours or even over night haha and then it does become a challenge to remember what was already on the count for that day, and what the correct total time should be.

Convenient and Affordable

2025-01-01

1000HoursOutside has made tracking my outside time very manageable and fun. I love looking at my progress, seeing my best and worst days. Seeing the total number of hours I’ve logged YTD is very encouraging too. I didn’t make it to 1000 hours this year, and 1000HoursOutside never guaranteed that goal to me; however, I’ve logged more hours in my adult life than any other year and couldn’t be happier.
