Wonder how many bad reviews it takes….

Honestly, this is so far a horrible experience. I can’t even get past the screen after scanning my drivers license. How can this even be legal? To represent a state in the USA and not have a proper app.
Let’s not even mention about the design, cause if FLSmartID worked I wouldn’t have to look at it everyday.
Also why must I HAVE to agree to notifications?
I wish I could even register.
My friend tried using it at the airport (he’s the one that put me on) and it didn’t even scan, he missed his flight… 🤣🤣🤣 truly a failure on all fronts. Hey Thales, I don’t want an automatic response about “thank you for your feedback, just FIX FLSmartID . It has so much functionality potential.

Absolutely Horrible and Useless

This is absolutely horrible. Apple already has a solution for digital driver’s license via Apple Wallet and the Florida government is wasting dollars reinventing the wheel except the wheels are not round but square. This poorly implemented app and “solution” is going nowhere. I recommend Florida use the tools provided to their developers and TRY to be modern and cutting edge by just embracing the solution provided by Apple with Apple Wallet. Congrats to Thales though, I’m sure you’ve collected a nice check from the state of Florida taxpayers for this horrible piece of “work.” I’ll probably end up using the photo I took of my license and stored on my phone than FLSmartID. It will actually be more functional and useful.

Literally does not work

I have my physical ID and was trying to scan it in order to have it available digitally in FLSmartID, however when it gets to the point of scanning your face to ensure it matches your ID photo, FLSmartID literally would not work at all. Just refused to take a photo of my face despite perfect lighting and me looking exactly like my ID photo. No matter what button you press, or how many times you redo the process. I tried the route of logging in through the DMV instead, and despite having every piece of info available that was requested, FLSmartID was STILL unable to verify me. Thanks for wasting 30 mins of my life!

Basically useless

FLSmartID does not function at all. The barcode scanner does not work so you have to enter the information manually. And if you for any reason leave FLSmartID for example to answer a call or text during this process, you have to start all over. Then it does not recognize or take a picture of your face when prompted to verify, you can try all the lighting and positions you like, it simply will not work. And then to top it all off, you find out they spent millions of tax payer dollars on this, only for it to be this bad. Please stop trying to make this a thing and just use the Apple wallet ID system.

One step forward, five steps back.

There are a few things that you need to realize before you actively use this digital license. First of all there’s no way to access it if your phone is locked, so that means if an officer needs to “take it back to their vehicle” you would be supplying your unlocked phone.

Additionally it requires Internet access in order to be functional. While I’m sure an officer would be somewhat understanding if you had no signal. This is extremely problematic for real world functionality.

Overall I’m glad that the state is moving in this direction, however the current implementation is problematic at best.

App Doesn’t seem to work

I registered with Florida ID a while back. Now when I access FLSmartID there isn’t any information on me and it puts me through the registration process. When I’m in the middle of the process I get and email saying I’ve already registered and must delete my ID if I want to re-enroll. There isn’t any information in FLSmartID so I went to the DMv portal and deleted my FL ID (also not a pleasant process). When I returned to the Fl ID app, I get to the end of the registration process and it tells me it failed and to try again. After 6 times I gave up. Not sure of the value of app anyway if you still haven’t carry your DL when driving.

Who took the money and ran

I’d be totally embarrassed to have my name associated with this irritating app. Proof that if you want a poor it outcome, hire a defense contractor. Looks like from Stone Age with many non functional aspects, slow loads, inability to back up, and clear disregard for built in Apple security infrastructure. Why are the digits on the passcode keyboard scrambled each time? Why not leverage Wallet infrastructure? I expect to see little competence from Florida these days, but even this surprised me.

Clearly, someone took a pile of money and ran. Total crap ware. Heads need to roll at Thales and florida dmv for this mess. Other states paved the way, what’s wrong with florida? Hope there is a legislative investigation.

So bad it takes your breath away

FLSmartID doesn’t work. Scanner doesn’t scan the barcode of my drivers license….So I manually enter my license info….then a pop up screen says my info doesn’t match dmv info….next time I retry to manually enter the info and submit FLSmartID just freezes…also if you take more than 20 seconds to get info like drivers e license number app automatically logs off so you have to re enter everything from the beginning. Sincerely I don’t understand how an app can be this bad unintentionally. Someone should make a documentary going down the rabbit hole of layers upon layers of incompetence and lack of effort necessary for FLSmartID to exist.

Complete Failure

App simply does not work. Attempted to scan my Florida drivers license numerous times with numerous fails finally was able to scan their drivers license after attempting to manually enter the data. The manual attempt also was met with abysmal results. Then I had to take a picture of my face camera did not activate on numerous attempts on about the fifth attempt and it finally activated and I got a picture only to have the photo not match even though it is me. These are all things the developer needs to fix before this will ever be adopted widespread by the public. I may try again as the ideas excellent but the implementation a complete waste of taxpayer money at this point.

Horrible

Thales and the FL DMV should be ashamed of themselves. This is supposed to be a professional app that stores some of our most sensitive information. Instead it feels like a cheap prototype. The McDonald’s app has a better look & feel to it than this. Also, people don’t just want things to be “on their phone” simply for the principle. We want it digitally because it’s usually easier to use. You have somehow made it more difficult than just bringing out my physical ID. QRs are not better than the barcodes on the back of the physical ID. But do you know what is better? NFC. The lack of integration with the mobile wallets like Google Wallet and Apple Wallet show that nobody involved in this project had any real intention of wanting FLSmartID to succeed in the first place. This was just a scheme to get more tax money funneled into the DMV, where most of it was likely spent on bonuses for the ones at the top.

Thales was paid $1.8M by the state of Florida to create this app…

... which is surprising given that it appears to have been designed by an 8 year old and programmed by a 7 year old.

If I had to pick my favorite design element it's probably that FLSmartID was made to look and feel like it's 15 years old... even though it was released just a tew years ago #retro.

I didn't think that US defense contractors could be outdone in their ability to create a product that's worth pennies on the dollar, but Thales (a French defense contractor) delivered... a true testament to the quality of their software engineers.

Every time that I was forced to restart the registration process, I was reminded how thankful l am that our hard earned tax dollars were shipped off to the continent known for their hardworking culture.
In conclusion, a BIG thank you to Thales and the French government for creating such a wonderful app. Please spend the remaining $1,799,900 wisely after the monster $100 you spent on development.
I'd suggest a nice bottle of Champagne or Bordeaux (or i guess juice boxes* for your design/dev team)

* I'd imagine it's probably spelled "jeus beauxes" in France

REFUSES TO WORK

FLSmartID , upon opening, IMMEDIATELY CRASHES!
If I’m super fast, I can get to the camera screen. (To do the initial ID scan.) But regardless...

Anyway;
Looking past that *major* flaw..
I agree with everyone else here, who had ideas about implementing certain features. (Apple Wallet, NFC, etc.)

It was said FL would be among the first to do this.. false. One example.. LOUISIANA.. They have now HAD VIRTUAL LICENSE, for QUITE SOME TIME! (& here we aren, years after this was announced.. years..) Anywho... Their app is awesome! It’s literally your ID, but digitally. It keeps record of your priveledges and license class with neat images and such. One big barcode across it, & can (..non-problematically....) be used ANYWHERE, for ANYTHING (that one would need their ID for; ofc.) Download it, study it, implement changes! The documentation I kept reading beforehand was selling a dream with FLSmartID, like they have created it many times for multiple provinces.. however, obviously it’s trial and error of the first stages.

With all that being said.. I’m honestly not hating; I couldn’t do a lick better, I’m sure.. (well, in this timeframe, I honestly probably could have, LOL.) However, with so many companies already doing this, I assume it would be easy to partner with one, or initially hire them instead. IDK. As long as there is progress, I’m grateful. There’s good examples out there! Learn from them! Thanks for listening to my rant!

Senior Class Project Level App

I really wanted FLSmartID to work, despite the 2 star rating it had and the negative comment I read. If i could carry my driver’s license on my phone, I wouldn’t have to carry a wallet anymore, since all my credit and loyalty cards are on my apple wallet anyhow.

It took several tries to load the driver’s license barcode, which was mildly frustrating. To make matters worse, it couldn’t take my photo no matter how many times i zoomed in and out of my face and pressed the Continue button. I restarted several FLSmartID times to confirm it was not user error.

FLSmartID still feels like it’s in Beta version. I’m not sure that my information with it. Florida needs to stop messing around and adopt the Apple Digital ID. It seems so much easier to use than this senior class project of an app. Further, what’s the difference between FLSmartID and the verifier app? That should be clear right from the description. The people at Thales have a long way to go if they want to deliver an app that will have widespread adoption and support.

App does update age after birthday

FLSmartID has its pros and cons. I’ve had the FL Digital ID app on my phone for over a year, and I’m not impressed. FLSmartID is basic, which, to be fair, is to be expected since it’s a digital version of your license. I’ve submitted several issue tickets that my ID is not updating my age. My digital ID does not reflect a change in my age since my birthday in February. This may be a good thing if I want to remain a year younger, but a bad thing if the person verifying my ID understands basic mathematics. This bug could make it appear as if my ID is a digital fake or forgery. I believe Florida needs to stop screwing around and adopt the Apple Digital ID if they want a successful implementation of a secure digital driver's license program. Thanks for Trying Florida, but we, the people, ask that you move forward and implement Apple’s Secure Drivers License alongside the current digital offering and see which one is more likely to be adopted by your citizens. At the same time, I think you will also see which is more secure with less security risk and bugs issues.

Well, it’s certainly an app.

FLSmartID would have passed muster a decade ago, before biometric identification was normalized. Other reviews have already skewered its UX, but it seriously feels like something that would’ve been released in the early ‘10s. Too many taps to get around, a frankly incredible option to use online or offline verification, an absolutely aggravating PIN system… this honesty feels more like a proof of concept than something a competent developer ought to be putting their name on.

Doesn’t work with law stop.

Read Agreement
8. MOBILE DRIVER'S LICENSE AND USAGE. Pursuant to state laws, the mobile driver's license provided by the Application MAY NOT be recognized as an official form of identification. It is intended as a companion to your physical identification card that CAN BE used to verify your age, identity, or driving privileges in specific instances. You must carry your physical identification card with you and present your physical identification card when asked for - do not solely rely on the Application for identification purposes. The use of this Application is further subject to your Participation Agreement with Thales.

Great idea, but still has flaws.

It’s ok… needs apple wallet!!!

I think my first question when it comes to digital ID’s is will this make getting a license more accessible. While using this system and seeing how the enrollment process works I definitely could see the potential because not everyone has the time to go get their license renewed and digitizing them can alleviate costs especially in low income communities because this digital ID system is free and we are all human and some times we forget our ID and only have our phone. But honestly I think FLSmartID/system needs to integrate with apple wallets new digital ID system in IOS 15 which also can be accepted at TSA. Apple wallet digital ID I think is the future when it comes to digital ID’s because it can be accepted across state borders FLSmartID only works within the state of Florida. It is not a unified system across the country. I think with feedback they will integrate with apple wallet and use FLSmartID/system as a companion app. But I think the ultimate goal with digital ID’s should be to help alleviate costs to Floridians and modernize our infrastructure because in low income communities going to the DMV is often a barrier.

Good concept… need lots of improvements

As a concept, the Smart ID has covered some of the basics. Age Verification, online and offline law enforcement Verification QR codes. The big however… I would say it is somehow convenient but it is not an all in solution. FLSmartID itself is a bit disappointing. The quality does not represent the big state of Florida. And the big one.. does not have Apple Wallet and TSA support. Apple wallet should have been an easy one to include. I understand TSA support requires other processes but difficult to understand how new this is for Florida when other states are on top of this.

Not accepted in most circumstances

I have had FLSmartID since my last license renewal (close to 2 years). I love the convenience of the Florida Smart ID. Unfortunately it requires cooperation from law enforcement and private entities. Only Disney has accepted mine.

Most organizations never heard of it and do not trust it. Medical facilities require you permit them to copy your license which has never made me feel comfortable.

I have had numerous casual encounters with people in law enforcement. All have said either they never heard of it or they did but never bothered to download the verification app. Only one of over the dozen I talked with downloaded it after our conversation.

I very much like the addition of vehicle registration information but the info entered by DMV is not complete. It can not be utilized for proof of registration because of that. Insurance information is part of the matrix too but it remains blank.

I believe this is the future of identification but there needs to be more effort made to inform the public, get law enforcement cooperation and complete data entry. I realize the money required to do it is not easily allocated however I will be surprised if physical licenses are still in use in the next 10-20 years.

Despite those issues I am happy FLSmartID is being implemented.

I’m lucky or it’s not as bad as people say

Well I didn’t have any problems getting FLSmartID or setting it up on my iPhone 13 max. I started out going through the Florida DHSMV mobile website and it seamlessly sent all the information I needed so all I had to do was download FLSmartID from FLSmartID Store and enter a verification numberI received from the DHSMV website. I didn’t have to bother with taking my photograph or entering verification information. (A link to the program in FLSmartID Store from the DHSMV website would’ve been nice.)

I would’ve given it the fifth star except: (1) There were several cautions on the DHSMV website that you still have to carry your physical drivers license so I’m not 100% sure what the benefit of FLSmartID is going to really be, but hopefully at some point FLSmartID will be accepted as your requirement to be in possession of your DL. And (2), I couldn’t find a “log off” or “sign out” button. Yes, you can just swipe up on FLSmartID , but I like the confirmation of seeing FLSmartID close itself. It’s a very clever app and being a gadget-guy I’m glad I downloaded it; thanks fot making it. Now we’ll see if I ever really have an occasion to use it. :-)

Works perfectly!

After visiting the FLHSMV website, I found FLSmartID. A digital version of a drivers license is a good idea. If you ever lose your wallet, this can be used to prove your ID. I agree with the other reviews that the drivers license should be able to be loaded into the digital wallet of the phone instead of using a separate app. There are other states that allow the use of the digital wallet. A key take away from this is that you need to go to the FLHSMV website first and then follow the instructions. You cannot simply download FLSmartID and expect your drivers license or state ID to magically appear here.

Works Great

App works as advertised on my Apple IPhone 12. He it is a little slow in its connecting to server. I am hoping you are sharing this technology with police department in cities like Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale so that cops don’t look at you like your crazy and don’t have the proper apps preloaded on their phones to use this. This needs a ton of marketing and should have commercials to download FLSmartID and educate the residents of the state of Florida

Follow instructions on FLHSMV Site

Instructions in FLSmartID are currently somewhat lacking. I think this is because FLSmartID isn’t officially rolled out to the public yet. Follow the instructions on the FLHSMV site and it’s very easy to use. No where I have tried has picked up the Reader App yet but I assume it’s because this is in such an early stage. Excited for this to roll out more broadly and that Florida is doing something first for once!
