4 Defective Units in 3 Years

I purchased my first Mila machine in 2020. In less than a year the unit started to make unpleasant sounds. It was confirmed that a ball bearing in the motor was faulty. The company replaced the unit under warranty. Within six months my replacement unit started making the exact same unpleasant sound as my first unit. The company once again replaced the unit. My third unit would not connect to Wi-Fi and therefore I could not set up the unit with MilaAir . I was unable to configure scheduling and any settings. The company once again sent a replacement. My 4th unit completely shut down after making a grinding sound. Mila is asking me to purchase a replacement this time because they said all replacement units only have 180 day warranties. While that is their right and their policy, I have yet to have any of my Mila devices last more than 9 months. I had the unit sitting in my bedroom, nothing fancy. I also have a Dyson air filter/fan in the same room (no issues with the Dyson in 4 years). In my experience I think a product that does not last even 1 full year is a risky purchase. I wish the company would have worked with me until I had a positive experience instead of sending me a series of refurbished and faulty replacements. Now my only option is to buy a discounted new machine, but 4 faulty products in 3 years does not instill any confidence my 5th Mila in 3 years will be any different.

Very upset

I purchased my Mila in 2022 and it shipped in July 2022. I have had an issue with the screen not responding to touch and cannot connect the unit to MilaAir , make any adjustments, see the status or control the unit in any way. The only time the screen comes on is if the unit is unplugged and plugged back in. It is under warranty BUT they are only sending auto response emails to me for the many times I have reached out to try to file a warranty claim. Further, I asked to cancel the auto ship filter they said they were sending and yet, I was charged for that filter today. (Days after asking that it not be sent for a malfunctioning unit)
At this point, I would like my money back since customer service and warranty claims are obviously not important to them. I don’t want or need a $99 filter for something that isn’t working.
They only allow emails to a “support” email address and that only sends robo response emails back to you with no follow through in the well over 24 hour time period they claim to honor.

Don’t buy it! Costs too much to have zero support for the purchase.

Excellent - if and when they work

I’m on either my 4th or 5th unit, I’ve had to swap out so many I’ve honestly lost track. All of them have either had a bearing failure/motor issue within 1,5 years. My most recent replacement is starting to make the same noises now so I guess I’m going to have to ask for yet another replacement unit…

I’d like to note that one of the replacement units sent was clearly used and didn’t come with a power cord. To add insult to injury, when I swapped in a cord from a functioning one, the motor on the replacement sounded like a 15 year old fan belt on a base model Ford from the 90’s.

App/firmwear:
App is mostly fine, not very intuitive/user friendly for those who are not tech savvy. But for the love of Dog STOP LOGGING US OUT. This is an air filter, not a CIA document repository.

Constant firmwear/softwear changes are problematic because they mess with the fan speed/settings. As of now, there are no options to have less than 6-7 air changes per hour, when you used to be able to have very low fan speed settings in a couple automagic options and with manual. This just creates more wear on an already faulty:problematic motor. This inability to customize fan speeds/settings is very frustrating.

I really love these filters when they are working but that’s a minority of the time from my experience.

A few issues with the app

Issue 1: Their sign up process intentionally does not let you paste a password when creating an account. Super annoying for folks who want to use a password manager to generate a secure password. Why do companies do this? It makes me just want to use 1234 as my password.

Issue 2: If you have multiple units in different rooms, you can only create a new room during device setup. No empty rooms allowed, no option to skip device setup. There is no UI button to create a new room, you just spam tap the 3D grid until it prompts you to create a new room, then add the device. You cannot do this after device setup without completely removing it from your account. Don’t do what I did and add both to the same room expecting to move it later.

Issue 3: If you use a different email address for MilaAir sign up than the one you used to order, it will not give you any dashboard information (just errors) and you won’t see any options to order new filters. You have to create a second Mila account with the address you ordered from and add it as a household member to view that information. Very annoying.

I hope the product quality is better than MilaAir user experience. It’s been 1 hour and I am not impressed…

Don’t think I would purchase again

There are technical issues I’m having and when I reached out for support I didn’t feel like they are listening or trying to find the issue. And they only responded once and never again after that. So no customer service as far as I’m concerned. It’s been zero aqi which is def weird. Especially when I’ve had the door open outside or been cooking. Then out of nowhere it spikes over 200 and then won’t come down from that number. This happened late at night. So no reason for that kind of long ongoing spike. Just cause it has tech features doesn’t mean it’s better. I will likely purchase a smaller one with a different brand for my bedroom since this one has been inaccurate/unpredictable lately.

Customer service is dysfunctional and unresponsive

The product itself is fine but I would have never bought a Mila product if I’d known how poor their customer service is. Here’s two bad experiences I’ve had with them:

1) I was signed up for the auto purchase program for the filters. Before the stated date that I needed to cancel by before the next filter was sent, I followed their instructions for cancelling the subscription because I did not want the filter. They ignored my cancellation and charged me anyway and I had to report them as fraudulent to my credit card company to void the charge.

2) When I got the unit, I was having problems connecting it to MilaAir . I reached out to support for assistance. They asked me what my model of phone was. I answered their question. Then they closed the support ticket without providing me any resolution for my issue. I emailed them back saying it was inappropriate to close the ticket and I was still waiting for a resolution and they flat out ignored me and never responded again.

Flawed but has potential

I have 2 Milas and it has a lot of potential. However there are software issues that are difficult to live with. I will pass on the small ones, but here is a major one:

The energy savings mode is great. It turns off your Mila to save energy when the air is perfect, and it turns back on the fan when Mila detects bad air. Awesome feature except it doesn’t work: Mila will turn off, but as soon as its screen shows a message (low humidity alert for example) it will power the fan back up indefinitely until you go on the device manually dismiss the alert. That means both my Mila will have the fan on for hours / days despite perfect air if I don’t go dismiss the alert on the device. Once I dismiss it, it turns off immediately. 3h latter it will show the alert again. So in vacation, Mila is basically always on because you can’t dismiss the humidity alert that shows up everyday…

That’s obviously a software issue. An easy fix would be to be able to disable on device alerts, but you can’t. You can only mute the sound.
There are many things you can’t choose with MilaAir also such as max power levels in quiet mode.

Once the developers fix the software so my Mila stops staying on when it’s supposed to be in standby, I’ll update my review. Not having to manually turn it on and off all the time is the reason you buy that product. Otherwise you get the same one for 1/3rd of the cost.

Purifiers are good, tech is super annoying.

These air purifiers disconnect from MilaAir sometimes several times a day. So if you have a schedule that you want to run, the purifier will just totally stop in the middle of the night. For example, when you are relying on it for white noise. They seem to work great for a couple of months and now they are disconnecting all the time. We have purchased Wi-Fi extenders and I’ve tried everything that I can think of.

I also think it is incredibly annoying how you can have the purifier to run on a schedule, but if you choose that option, it will also turn on whenever it decides it’s appropriate like when you’re cooking. Obviously, this benefits, your air quality, but it often reduces your quality of life when you’re trying to have a conversation. They desperately needs to be a standalone schedule option that does not activate the automatic function.

Bipetual Household

Day 2 after a 24 hour deep cleaning I woke to see a message telling me to close the windows. I looked at MilaAir to see why Mila was suggesting this. Turns out the outdoor air was worse then the inside air.I would give it a 5 but I have not had it long enough so I’m giving it a solid 4.

Day 3 I continue to be amazed. Walked in the door to fresh home and a witty massage on the display. I want to test this one really well before purchasing a second Mila.

Day 5 I am really starting to learn my Mila and how to set it up best for my household. I have seen a lot of complaints about noise. if you take time to tweak the settings you will not notice it as much. That seems to be the only complaint from anyone, so obviously it’s doing the job.

I have learned that Mila needs Apple HomeKit certification. I love 💕 ❤️🥰my Mila. Almost a certified 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ product very close!

Mila is the iphone of air purifiers. There may be a better phone than an iPhone but it’s OS is top shelf and no one else comes close. Please keep the updates coming. I know your a air purifier manufacturer but software is going to be key to your success. Your hardware is close to perfect and your software is off to a great start

Only 1 week in so far…

and for the m͟o͟s͟t͟ p̲a͟r͟t͟ I’m feeling secure in my purchase of these 2 Mila units. These are the first full-size standalone air purifiers I’ve ever owned, so I’m not sure if the critiques I have are typical of air purifiers in general. I find it a little rigid and unrealistic to not be able to tweak or adjust the parameters of “good”, “moderate” etc, depending on where you live or what the season/outside temp is. Why must a “good” temperature reading fit between 68°-72°? I get that WARMER can be problematic, but I don’t understand why my bedroom being 65° is such an issue. The alerts about it are blowing up my phone! You’d think it were detecting a gas leak & I’m moments away from dying from asphyxiation. I don’t want to turn the alerts OFF because I d͟o͟ want to be notified should there be legitimate causes for concern. I live in Dallas, where the outside humidity is pretty much always uncomfortably high, year round. And I live in an older, 2-story house with wall to wall carpeting. The only way to keep my INDOOR humidity down within what is considered a “good” range is to constantly have my AC running…but then that triggers the temperature alerts! Aside from these issues, I’m pleased with everything else so far. Packaging & presentation were top notch, as was the ease of initial setup and app pairing.

Workable, lacks some features

The Mila system has the settings, manual and “automagic.” Manual allows you to set a single speed (percentage of full force) to run constantly. Automagic allows the Mila to run semi-autonomously with a few suggestions from you. You can set it to not go above a certain fan speed during your designated sleep time and do “housekeeping” (full blast) when you’re away or before bed. However it would be nice to have a convenient way to say “never above 70% during the daytime” for example, as variable schedules happen and I’m chilling in the living room and Mila deciders the it’s time to crank it to 100% because I’ve been still long enough she thinks I’m not there. It would be great to have a “quick stop” function on MilaAir without having to sink around through automagic to manual conversions. It would also be nice if humidity in the air wasn’t read as insane particulate levels. Turning on a humidifier made my Mila think there was a big pollution problem.

If you are thinking about a Mila, I am here to tell you, Invest.

As someone who suffers from two auto immune diseases, migraines and asthma, Mila has been the greatest investment I have ever made. I have been looking into a air-purifier system for months. Due to my illnesses, I have to have a HEPA filter, problem is, several filters do not get as high as Mila’s (their “Over Reactor” is a HEPA 14, thats hospital grade amazingness) which has been such a help with my asthma. A lot of the others do not have a purchase-able “Sock” for their filters to help with pet hair (proud cat parent) like Mila does. Not to mention many air purifiers claim to be “whisper quiet” but in video reviews sound like a vacuum on the lowest setting, Mila is so quiet we wonder if she is even there sometimes! And the programable fan option to sound like “white noise” at night has been so lovely it has put my sound app to bed all while keeping my air perfect at night. So not only was there a clear winner in my big departments, it also runs off this easy to use app that can help me track air quality as well as temperatures of my home! (The Mila app helped us detect a possible problem with our thermostat!) So all and All, Mila has been the greatest addition to my home and I hope yours too! My parents are thinking of one for theirs!

I really like these machines!

Unlike other room air filters, you get so much information as to what’s going on in that room it’s amazing! No other machine that I’ve ever purchased ever gave me a report like these do. I bought four of these for a 7400 square-foot house and I feel like they’re doing a great job. I’ve seen other reviews about noise and personally I don’t mind so much because that tells me it’s working! You can set in MilaAir what time you want them to go on and go off so that you don’t get bothered by them at night. The number of settings for these are amazing so I am truly happy with them.

Superstar Home Air Purifier

Home run. My wife has allergies, we have a cat, a mix of wood floors and carpet, and our home was not built like our parents, no drafts. Our research was done, reviews read, and kickstarters remembered - We now own two (2) Mila’s, one for in the master bedroom and one for in the entertainment room. Very simple to setup, great information, details to explain the data collected and alerts that are sent to your phone. MilaAir has many settings to purify the room when your away or turn off when your sleeping. I’m very happy with Mila and would recommend to everyone.

Best air purifier-Mila Air

So glad I bought 2 Mila Air purifiers for my home. You can set it and forget it or interact and watch all the cool data. I find myself looking at MilaAir a lot and seeing why it jumped up and turns up higher sometimes. So glad I have great air inside my home. It is also great I can see what the outdoor air quality is around my home. This gives me a great feeling that the air I am breathing inside my home is the best. I shopped around and compared and hands down Mila was the winner! Thank you for making an outstanding product. I have had Mila now for 2+ years.

Mila app is great…

I have had 2 black Mila’s replaced 2x! The units start to make weird noises after been used for a few months. This thing would be great if they can fix the noises coming from it after extended use. Their support is great however living in the city and exchange the Milas through UPS/FedEx is quite a nightmare. Would love to be able to recommend these air cleaners to others but with the product making noises after a few months, I cannot recommend a Mila to anyone. :/ I wish I had my $600+ back to invest in a air cleaner that did not make the noise these units are making.

Excellent Hardware, Software, and Customer Service

It is rare that an electronic device hits all three major things that make a great product, but Mila delivers on all of them, so consistently and with a level of excellence that is awe-inspiring. MilaAir itself is fantastic. It’s easy to change settings, see patterns in indoor and outdoor air quality, and get notified when there’s a sharp change in AQI. I particular like the manual settings for Whitenoise and Sleep. It’s almost like you have an additional sound machine along with an air filter. The software is so perfectly integrated with the hardware in ways like this.

Customer service is always excellent - their staff really cares about the customer and works with you if any issues arise with friendliness and professionalism.

I know it might be hyperbolic talking about an air filter in this way, but darnit, it’s just that good of a device. You will not regret getting one.

Mila

Just got ours. Love the look so much. Good so far what

I would’ve really liked a written card with as a QuickStart guide to be in the box. We couldn’t figure out how to get the filter out we kept trying to access it from the bottom finally we push pulled etc. and found the door where the filter was. We were then able to remove the plastic. Had I not gone online and re-looked at the email that said be sure and remove the plastic we would not have realized that. We actually started everything up and it excepted it with the plastic on the filter. So it took a bit for us to get I have a molecule and what I liked about that is that I got a really nice 8 1/2 x 11 Quickstart page inside the box so that I could start immediately without having to download anything.

My husband and I are both in our 70s and I am pretty savvy computer wise if it had been up to him he would not have known what to do. So please can you change that for others who might be going through what we are going through. Otherwise I think your app is wonderful and very good to utilize and easy. It just was hard till I was able to download it.

On the FAQ your links do not work. Just saying.

Literally a lifesaver

If I could award ten stars I would. I first encountered Mila as a crowdfunding project. With many such projects, after you have them for a week you wonder why you spent your money. With others, like Mila, after you have them a week you wish you had bought three. Shortly after Mila arrived the wildfires started in Oregon. Although we were not in any immediate danger, the smoke came pouring into our valley. For several days the AQI was over 500; literally off the charts. Our family would settle down in one room, and Mila would quietly keep the indoor AQI under 10. If anybody opened the door to leave the room the AQI would quickly shoot up to 70 or more. Mila would sigh, automatically turn up her fans, get to work and quickly bring things back under control. I don’t know how we would have survived without her. Now I want to get a Mila for every room in the house.

Awesome with one request

Purifier and customer support/app are great. I'd love to see an option under automagic so that during the day you can keep the fan above a certain level to keep any dust in the room that might occur being drawn to it. Mine drops to 10 percent often which is too low for what I like. Sleep mode enables varying minimum levels. A cute option called dust collector or something with similar options would be great. Otherwise I need to keep moving between manual for a chunk of the day. Just a thought.
