Could not bring it work in front of an this app machines outside of a Safeway for 15 minutes . Trying to add a card to the Apple wallet only results in a white screen. Without it, apparently there is no other way to register it to a machine since trying to scan on the machine only brings out, you guessed it, Apple wallet.
i just wasted 45 minutes and countless cans feeding a machine without any sort of warning that i could only do 50 containers per day. “50 CONTAINER LIMIT PER DAY” needs to be in giant bold letters SOMEWHERE. there was no marker of this information anywhere on the machine itself or in Olyns tutorial, it is only shown as a tiny notification at the top of your screen AFTER you’ve already hit the limit. you shouldn’t expect your customers to have their phone in one hand and a bottle in the other waiting to see when they hit their “limit” for the day. i, apparently carelessly, had my phone in my pocket and dumped away, little did i know i wasn’t going to be getting any of my moneys worth for the containers i deposited. i spent more than $2.50 in gas driving to the machine in the first place, i might as well have just stayed home. i will not be using Olyns anymore.
Installed App. When App is initiated it opens a blank white screen & remains that way.
this app user at Milpitas Safeway told me machine is always down for him. He left disgusted with this app. As best I can tell he is right about the availability of the machine at that location. Service desk offered no insights into when it is best to try to use; told me best insights come from Olyns … which is no help at all to me.
This is a great idea in concepts. But one container at a time is not time or cost-efficient for the recycler. The machine kept saying that I didn’t have a container on the belt and would keep having to reset. I spent 29 minute sessions and only walked away with five dollars in my pocket. Definitely not worth the investment, especially from a time perspective.
Save your money and your time
Go find a real recycling facility
It’ll be faster and pays better if u factor in your own time.
Waiting 30-45 seconds a can or bottle for like 10c is not worth it when there’s places that will just take it, weigh it, and pay for it with an app.
Felt like this was a giant waste of time so i could “feel” good.
We visited three different locations on Saturday, all showing plenty of capacity, but they all indicated “full” message when we tried to use them—yet the capacities on Olyns hadn’t changed. I get that these (very small) machines could fill up quickly, but the real problem is the inaccuracy of Olyns , which wastes a ton of time. Extremely frustrating experience.
This is less an review of Olyns itself but rather overall experience.
I love the idea of this app and the convinces (in theory) it brings.
But please work on improving and streamlining the return process. It took us almost 8 minutes to feed the machine 26 containers.
My son got really impatient and frustrated with the machine. Certainly a hard sell to teach kids that recycling can be good for the environment and fun.
Machines fill up pretty quickly. And the popularity seems to be increasing. Most of the times, the machine near my place is always full. Should also send a notification if the this app near my place is empty/full. Sometimes there’s a glitch with the machine and it won’t accept the bottle. Have to try twice or thrice. It’s happened usually with walmart water bottles.
Similar to other reviewers, the containers are full and never seem to be emptied from glass bottles. I try to avoid consuming as much plastic as I can but I still consume glass.
Nearby containers are ALWAYS full of glass. Either make the glass container bigger or empty them more often and notify when they are empty of what you’re trying to recycle.
Driving 20 or 30 miles to find an empty container is a deal breaker.
Olyns is fine and you’ll need it to ensure that the machine you want is available and not full. But the frustration happens when the machine cannot recognize your valid container and you have to either repeatedly try again or just give up after it incorrectly tells you that is crushed bottle or that it cannot recognize it as a CRV despite the correct wording on the label. I’m guessing that the UPC database had not been updated. Also the machines will not accept larger containers (think like 48 oz juice bottles or larger) so that part is a big fail.
There are a few centers convenient for me to reach. I have to check ahead of time but I can usually find a time where I need to food shop anyways.
I love these kiosks. They work well & Olyns tells you if there is space to recycle. They are emptied often so almost always available.
This is a great recycling option!
PayPal interface is really convenient.
The machine is sometimes broken, like the first time we did this the machine wasn’t working so, we had to go to a different this app machine 10 minutes away. But overall, 5 stars!!😃😃
I’m a recologist .
recycling this way is the best way to turn stinky trash into cash!
I get back exactly what I paid for in crv. this is the best solution since other recycling companies rip you off by weight.
For years, we’ve all been ripped off getting a small percentage of what we pay in fees and it’s always been a huge hassle to recycle. This takes all the effort away from the customer service people at the stores by providing machine that do it all. Just wish there were more around and could handle a larger capacity. Great vision by this app!
Recycling easy and convenient. Here’s why I love it: I can recycle when I go grocery shopping. Recycling is self-serve. I get my CRV refund through PayPal ( not a handful of coins). Olyns is intuitive and easy to use. Well done this app!
If you’re in an area where the machines are around, this is a pretty easy way to collect the crv on them. The payout is digital and instant.
This is not only good for the planet, but you get your CRV back too! The only issue is it’s popularity causing machines to fill up quickly.
Love the feature on top recyclers which make recycling an interesting contest.
The first two times I had trouble logging on. I placed my phone flat against the wireless symbol but discovered that it wasn’t necessary to touch the machine, only pointing the iPhone at the symbol was sufficient. Today I discovered that the apple wallet was asking me to double click to confirm.
The machine is a great service to the public. Before I discovered this app I waited until I had several bags, usually several months, before hauling the lot to a recycling station, where I waited in the sun for my turn. Now I get cry back in almost real time. No more unsightly piles of cans in the back yard!
