Watch doesn't connect to TV

I just bought the new apple tv 4k and was really excited to be able to connect it to all my devices. However, it doesn't let me connect the apple watch with the TV. The instructions provided by Apple seem to be outdated.

Cannot remove old Apple TV’s on watch

There an Apple TV that I no longer own that cannot be removed from the this app app. When pressing the remove button, nothing happens and Remote tries (and fails) to connect to that Apple TV instead.

Sick of this app

Doest work. All apple info online is wrong or outdated. Will not connect no matter what directions Apple tries to give you. Frustrating fail for two major Apple products to not work together.

No longer connects to apple tv. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works. I can access the apple tv through the “now playing” app but the this app app itself is broken.
