Underwhelming and Disappointing

I replaced my home HVAC almost 6 months ago and went from having a Nest Thermostat on my old system to this! Wow is all I can really say and NOT in the good way. If you are like me moving from the UI of Nest to this, prepare your self to be very disappointed! However SkyportHome is by far the least disappointing point about the system. It’s decent.

The physical hardware/thermostat is complete a complete failure. I mean who doesn’t like going to there thermostat and attempting to lower or raise their in home temperature and all it does is nothing but go back and forth between a couple of degrees no matter how many times you turn it. With a Nest you barely turn the knob and it was very responsive and accurate but with this Daiken thermostat specific to their system well simply put is GARBAGE!

It functions but isn’t good.

In today’s world where we see refined applications and easy workflows we have high expectations. This application is neither. It functions but is not fluid or even intuitive. Think windows 98 meets 2020. Designed old style with menus inside of menus like hitting file, save, save as, move through files to select location and finally save it.

When you open SkyportHome you shouldn’t need to select home to then see a list off thermostats and then need to select the thermostat. What is worse is adjusting the temp is illogical once you are on the thermostat. Why? Because you then need to move off the home symbol to the ball made of sticks symbol before changing the temp.

With my old system I opened SkyportHome where it showed both my thermostats, visual indications of what they are currently doing and the temps they are set at. Adjusting either thermostat took two clicks at most not 4 before adjusting anything.

Very disappointing app and support.

SkyportHome is slow and difficult to navigate. Simple actions require going deep into non-intuitive menus and display updates are very slow. But what is especially poor is the lack of control over air circulation. You can choose on or off, and if on, the system decides when and if to circulate air and at what speed. High quality competitor apps like Trane Home allow you to choose a circulation fan speed in 5% increments, the amount of time per hour to run, de-humidity set point, and what level of filtration to apply. I can’t even find the actual current humidity with SkyportHome. Support takes days or weeks to respond and doesn’t read my questions. It’s sad that Daikin isn’t taking SkyportHome seriously. It’s the user experience for your product.

Make 0 stars an option for this app’s rating

SkyportHome is awful. It freezes and displays no information about the thermostat more often than it’s ever functional. The wall panel is just as bad, with a dial that randomly decides if it’s going to adjust one degree, five degrees, or not at all. Plus the touch display is either too small for anyone but a small child to operate precisely or it’s comically large and difficult to navigate. So you’re stuck using this awful app that you have to constantly close, log into again, reconnect your Wi-Fi. It’s an enormous pain when I just want to adjust the temperature in my house! Thankfully my installer has a guarantee and I am having my Daikin system replaced with a better brand. The system is NOT efficient as advertised - barely any change in electricity usage and double the gas usage of my old system that was 20+ years old - and that’s keeping temperatures in uncomfortable ranges to attempt to keep my bills reasonable. It’s a failure on every level, and with Daikin systems being more expensive and forcing you to use their horrendous thermostats, I’d advise anyone thinking of buying this brand to consider other options.

Limited compared to Nest

I upgraded to a Daikin Fit with the Smart One thermostat about 6 months ago. The system is much more comfortable than our old furnace and ac, but SkyportHome and thermostat are very limited compared to Nest. The user interface is difficult to use and it does not give energy use stats like how many minutes a day the furnace or ac was running. They finally fixed the temperature selection interface with a tap touch arrow because the manual dial is useless - it has very poor sensitivity. I really hope Daikin puts energy into redoing the interface since it is a software issue it can be easily fixed. The system is an A+, SkyportHome and thermostat is a D at best - especially for the premium price compared to Nest.

App is only ok, when it can connect to Daikin server

It’s nice to be able to remotely adjust your home’s heating and cooling when you’re away, or just in a different room. We love the Daikin heat pump we recently purchased, but the smart thermostat installed with it loses its connection to Daikin One every time we have a power outage - which is pretty often in the winter. Even when the smart thermostat recognizes it is connected to our wifi we’ve been unable to get it re-connected to Daikin One. After 2 months waiting for service, the sales and installation agent fixed it finally (he had a setup app for agent use only) - but then it disconnected again during the next power outage and we’re back to square one.

Despite being initially excited about having a smart thermostat, I’ve come to hate SkyportHome because its UI isn’t intuitive or very intelligent - and no one should need to make a service call just to get the mobile app and the smart thermostat to talk to each other again after the power comes back online. Yes, we have tried deleting and reinstalling SkyportHome . We have tried everything we can think of - and we’re a pretty tech savvy household. Daikin, please improve your IoT technology! In the meanwhile, for us... another service call. :-(

Geofencing feature defective

I agree with all the feedback regarding SkyportHome being rough around the edges, surprised they haven’t improved it yet. It is operative though except for the geofence feature which I have spent many many hours trying to troubleshoot with Daikin over 2 years, but to no avail. It works about 70% of the time, but the 30% of the days I come home and it doesn’t go out of Away mode or the days I leave and it doesn’t go into Away mode is very frustrating. Closing and reopening SkyportHome on my phone usually gets it to go into the correct mode, but not always. If they could only fix this one thing, it would be much more useful for me. How this bug STILL hasn’t been fixed after all this time, is beyond me. They need to hire some better programmers...

Frustrating user interface

I have trouble setting a schedule with SkyportHome . When I wake up, I want the temperature to be X and when I sleep I want it to be Y. It seems I can only set a temperature range in the schedule. Also, SkyportHome recently updated to allow users to do simple up and down clicks to adjust the temperature - finally! However, why are the up down buttons so tiny and all the way at the top right and bottom right of the screen? Those are the main buttons I use - put them in the center? My last complaint is about the actual thermostat wall unit - the circle dial you’re supposed to use to adjust the temperature is absolutely terrible. It doesn’t react as you would expect when you twist it - sometimes it’s slow and then all of a sudden it will jump 3-4 degrees. It’s difficult to get the exact temp you want. Recently, they updated the wall unit to have the same up down buttons which makes the GIANT circle dial now obsolete for me. Overall, I get frustrated with SkyportHome and am considering replacing it with a competitor.

Wished they would fix the bugs

While SkyportHome ’s user interface on the phone is much more responsive than the slow touch screen on the Daikin One, it‘s plagued with the same bugs. It allows you to set a screen saver but then it is stuck with it and getting close to the smart thermostat doesn‘t show the home screen. Also, why can‘t the weather (which is available) not been used as a screen saver as the competition allows? In addition, setting the brightness value for the Daikin One‘s display through SkyportHome doesn‘t do anything. You can see the number changing but the brightness stays the same. I like the idea of the Daikin app but there are still too many bugs and a lot of missing features. Right now, I‘m better off using the Google Assistant app that can also control other smart devices in my home including the Daikin thermostat.

Getting Better

Update: My two main complaints about SkyportHome have been addressed by Daikin support, and I’m having a better experience. There’s still room for improvement, but it’s working for me.

First, we have the geo-fence feature working. The key was I had to activate it on each of our phones simultaneously. Otherwise, only the last phone would work. It’s kind of pain to have to activate them all at the same time, but I’m glad it’s working.

Second, I am finally getting the monthly usage report via email. I had to call into the support desk a few times to get it working, but they were very helpful. I wish I could just see it in SkyportHome , like Nest, but this is better than nothing.

Taking a cue from Microsoft

Looks like they are taking a page from Microsoft playbook where every improvement adds more clicks to get to what you actually need. SkyportHome is optimized for people have more than one thermostat. I’m not sure how many other uses are that but every house I’ve ever had is only had one thermostat. So rather than the nice clean display that was in the last version, there’s now just a partial display then I have to tap into that to get to the clean display and even if that there’s a big banner at the top. Why don’t you at least optimize this back to the way it was just looking at how many thermostats someone has. If they have one just show that as the main page. More
is not always better. take a page from Apple and not Microsoft on user design.

Needs more detailed information

Like the other reviewer, I recently switched from an Ecobee based system to the Daikin Fit. The hardware is great, but the thermostat UI and iOS App could use some more work. In SkyportHome and on the Thermostat we need to see what equipment is running. Furnace or Heat pump? What’s the switchover temperature? Percent load? How long has it been running (recently, today), COP? Power/Gas consumption? The new Ecobee App (and BeeStat) give a wealth of data about runtimes, duty cycle, indoor and outdoor weather.

Joe average consumer has no idea whether his heat pump is saving him any money or not, nor does he know what switchover temperature he should use based on the cost of fuel and how hard his system has to work to heat his house. What would be fantastic would be if we could enter our local cost of fuel (electric, nat gas, propane, etc.), and then based on historical system usage, you could develop an algorithm or AI to recommend or set the optimal changeover temp for duel fuel systems.

I’ve also found that my dual fuel system tends to overshoot the temperature set point when running the furnace. As a result, I’ve had to widen my automatic switchover (heating to cooling) swing temperature to 3F versus my usual 2F. You need to be able to set a switch over delay time so that, for example, the air conditioner wont start if the furnace/HP was running in the past 15-60min to prevent the furnace overshoot from triggering the AC.

Brand new

We just got our new system put in today. After reading these app reviews, I’m a little nervous! SkyportHome is not nearly as functional as you would expect in 2023. My husband and I would both like access to the unit, but only 1 of us can have an account.

The schedule feature is not very useful. I don’t understand why it has a range. What does the range mean? Is this a cool and heat option? Does it mean it will run when it hits the upper limit until it reaches the lower limit? There’s no explanation in SkyportHome either.

We replaced our 17 year old Trane system, which despite being told numerous times it’s on its last leg had no major repairs in the last 10 years. Praying this was a good investment. We live in Florida and after having $400 power bills this past summer, we need energy efficient!

Previous Nest User

My new Daikin Fit system is great. I had to give up my Nest thermostat for the new system and SkyportHome leaves something to be desired. The two things I miss the most from Nest are (1) the ease of use and dependability of the auto-away and geofencing feature, and (2) the energy usage reports.

The geofencing auto-away feature with Nest was compatible with multiple user IDs, making it easy to set it up with multiple devices. The Nest thermostat also detected movement, so it didn’t go into auto-away mode if we left kids at home with a babysitter.

In comparison, the Daikin app has to use the same user ID across multiple devices. This has made troubleshooting the geofencing auto-away feature impossibly difficult. Trying to add two devices to the auto-away geofence tracking has resulted in both phones being seen as a single phone. Sometimes a second phone appears which is always “away” despite both phones being “home” and forces the system into auto-away settings anyway. I’ve completely disabled the auto-away geofence feature since it won’t work with both phones. I miss my Nest.

Ultimately works, but needs improvement to the UI

SkyportHome certainly works and gets the job done, but it’s a bit like using a sledgehammer to hang a small picture. It needs refinement. My biggest complaint is that I can’t set ONE temperature. I have to set a heating temp AND a cooling temp AND they can’t be any closer than 5º apart. Meaning: if I want my house at 72º, the best I can do is set the heat for 69º and the air at 74º and hope for the best. It’s probably not a big deal in most places, but Central Florida in the winter where it gets ‘cool’ at night, and still relatively warm during the day, I’m constantly manually changing the set temperature, or having to calculate & tweak my schedule settings in an attempt to keep the house temperature where I want it. Can we PLEASE just be able to dictate ONE temperature and the super sophisticated and smart thermostat figure out what needs be done to maintain that temperature based on the real time environmental conditions? It just doesn’t seem like it should be that hard, and it’s all software and UI design. Further, I really liked the Ecobee thermostats that I installed in my previous house, but of course, that’s not an option with a new Daikin system. With them, I set one temperature & it was Apple HomeKit enabled, so I could adjust anything about the system from my Apple Watch.

Great, but could be Awesome!

Coming off of Nest, I do like this interface but it’s missing some things like others have mentioned. 1.) Occupancy sensor. If the people who have the phones with geofencing leave and leave someone home, manually need to turn off away in the Daikin App 2.) Energy History: Would like to see each day for the last 7 days when the system called for heat or cooling. 3.) Manually turn on humidifier to check function, and adjust based on outside temperature. 4.) Room sensors: would like to base night temps on different locations in the house. 2-3 remote sensors as an option would be great!

Could be much better

I had an Ecobee thermostat for about 2 years so I admit I am a little spoiled. But when I needed to replace my system, I chose the Daikin Fit paired with the Daikin One Touch thermostat which seems very good so far. But I really miss basic things like opening SkyportHome and being able to tell exactly what my HVAC system was doing whether it’s cooling, heating (auxiliary heating coils or not), fan mode & speed. Not so with the Daikin. You can’t tell by SkyportHome what’s going on at all. You can’t even tell if it’s running. Sometimes the outside unit is running for no reason and there’s no way to know why. If Daikin is reading this, please try imitating the Ecobee’s functions. With a few improvements, the Daikin system and app would be THE BEST residential HVAC system period. IMO.
UPDATE: Feb 2025. Not sure if Daikin made improvements or if I’m just now noticing but SkyportHome is reporting, for the most part, what it’s doing. Thanks Daikin! I’m changing my rating from 3 to 4 stars.

Love this App!

I’ve had the Daikin One thermostat & app for over a year now and it is so simple & convenient!! I never go to the stat anymore, just one click and I can control the temperature instantly. It’s great all the time, but very nice to use in bed, as well as vacation & business trips when I forget to change the programming before I leave so I’m not wasting money, just open SkyportHome & walla! It’s changed & saving me money. The inverter system I have has saved me hundreds of dollars too, at least $100/month. The system keeps my air so crisp! Thank you Daikin!!

Long Distance Monitoring

I have been away from home for a few months, traveling out west. I check in on the system every few days with SkyportHome to see how things are, and it’s great for that! I noticed I had a problem…..the system wasn’t cooling. I contacted the installer, they went to the house and identified the problem. Had I not used the Daikin App, my system would have been trying to cool my home constantly, running full steam until I returned home weeks later. I love it!

Works fine for me

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews on SkyportHome and product because I am able to connect when away from home with no problem and I can perform every function on SkyportHome as I can do on the thermostat. Completely satisfied with the functionality which includes temperature adjustment, all settings including geofencing, humidity control, and thermostat functions. In fact I find it quicker and easier to use SkyportHome versus making adjustments at the thermostat. Daikin FIT system and Daikin One Thermostat installed.
