Otis: Invest in Culture Reviews

It used to be fun and affordable buying in on some of the newest and latest drops; but within the last few weeks/months they’ve started doing silly things - like offering $1 shares vs the typical $10 shares, which is theoretically great. It means more people can buy more shares now that they’re more affordable; however, they now require one to purchase at least 100 shares, so $100. I’m guessing that because of less people willing to put $100 down, a drop now seems to remain open for months prior to being available for trading. Speaking of trading; hours are a bit unclear - I’m not even sure why they have trading hours, it’s not like it’s the stock exchange. Anyways, Otis just isn’t as much fun anymore now that drops aren’t as affordable and remain open forever. Overall, had liked this app, and I still tell others about the platform; but hoping they go back to what it was like mid-2021 and earlier.

As an art collector I was advertised Otis. Intrigued to see if it was an auction site I downloaded and learned that is an entirely different beast. As much as I am intrigued by how this site would function... there is simply not enough information disclosed for me to spend money on it. They are implying that these investments as just that.. investments ... and as such they could eventually pay out, but there is not enough information (if any) disclosed to share with “investors” how and when they would pay out (if ever), at what rate, and whether or not investors had any say in the process. Likely whoever has the majority of shares (who bought the most) is the actual owner and can do what they please with the asset purchased to the detriment of other smaller investors. In theory creating a more approachable mutual fund focused on art commodities would make sense and be potentially lucrative but the devil is in the details and seemingly very little are disclosed. Be weary.

Otis brings to life such an interesting concept - purchasing shares in objects rooted in cultural significance that can increase in value. I love the way this works, and that I can support investments I am passionate about. Otis itself is clean and sleek. I was impressed with the amount of information and due diligence provided by this app on each investment. Can’t wait to start buying shares!

I signed up for this app using TheRetroFuture’s referral link, which was supposed to give you $20 just by adding your bank account. I was having issues connecting my Capital One account and I ended up resolving it by opening a new checking account with Varo and connecting that as my funding source. It was weeks after I initially signed up, but after finally funding my account I never got the $20 reward. Already deleted Otis , I am thinking about deleting my account as well.

Loving Otis! Halo ended up selling for over 9x its value making a load of money for my friend. I got in a bit after and have enjoyed trading and holding for this app to auction off my items that I’ve bought in on. Really cool stuff!

I recently downloaded this application and already made a few bids on collectible items. The UI is nice, nothing to complain about thus far but, for some reason, lately when I navigate through the discovery portion of the application it crashes. Can someone from the development team please take a look into this? Thanks!

Site is filled with items that aren’t buyable. It would be nice if they had their own section. Selection is pretty slim so I think they are used to fill out Otis . Many of the coming soon items I’ve been following for months and they still aren’t available. I got a notification that Mike Tyson’s Punchout was now available but when I went there it still said coming soon.

After purchasing multiple “shares” on Otis and seeing how other “shares” do I have determined Otis is a complete waste of time. The withdrawal process is lengthy and difficult and it has all the markings of a scam app.

I think it may be possible that the other positive reviews left may have been left nefariously as they are all similar and do nothing but praise a seemingly poorly preforming app.

Hopefully it gets put up for review, cannot reach customer service.

this app curates some really cool contemporary art as well as rare comics and collectible sneakers. I bought shares in several paintings (KAWS, Kehinde Wiley) as well as in a set of original Jordan’s. A really interesting concept and I’m interested to see how platform evolves. App is super easy to use.

I’m realizing Otis has massive potential due to the fact that they have started the fractionalization of investing into collectibles. Being a part of watching them develop and grow in real time is exciting.

Speculating on art or other premium goods has always seemed out of reach for me, but this app provides a way for me to support the artists I like and own a little piece of the work I admire. Easy to use and great customer service - I’m excited for new releases!

I found Otis really easy to navigate and I’m excited about the opportunity to invest my money is other assets. As an avid Robinhood user, I like the idea of being able to invest my money in other areas.

Every tangible thing on their platform is WAY over valued. You can go buy anything they offer shares in for way less on the open market than it’s valuation on this app. The Buyout Offers is a complete joke. No serious investor in collectibles is going to use this platform when you can find the item at a price point 20-30% less and own the entire thing.

This was Otis I was waiting for, thanks to the developers for completing such vision. It really makes a big difference. Now I hope to start collecting Artworks.

There is there pretty much no info online about Otis and how the investment process works, I attempted to invest in a drop today at the exact time it came out and every time you try to buy shares it just says “sorry but this offering is now closed”. No support to contact, no info, nothing. Not only shady but non functioning, what’s the point?

Love that the first piece has robust info accessible from Otis . Just putting “coming soon” on everything else - with no additional info when you put it into Otis - falls short for me

Otis is so easy to navigate, which is extremely helpful for me as I look to invest into alternative assets. The design is very sleek and well executed. Would recommend!

Easy to use and simple legal paper work

Owning a portion of protected art assets is something that took my head a few turns to get around. Now this is the only model that I realize makes sense to grow communities and financial ops for artists long term. My art is far from being on here, but the biggest downside of your art’s demand growing is that your community and early / young fans can’t really benefit from that growth unless they own part or all of pieces... which by definition gets harder and harder. Don’t know if this is Otis that cracks this, but it feels like the future.

I was looking forward to participating until I realized my bank isn’t on the list of linkable banks :(. PayPal would be nice. Hey, maybe bitcoin too?
