Changing Banks

I loved SECU in the beginning. However, there are so many bugs and glitches that I now want to change my entire bank account. I never know when I can access my account or when SECU will tell me there is an error. I do not recommend SECU. It’s not a question of if SECU will fail, but when.

The app

I have called, emailed, everything but every time I make a transfer between my checking accounts, savings accounts, whatever, once I hit transfer, the top half of the page disappears so I cannot confirm it has been transferred. I have other banking apps and this never happens with those. I have been with this app since I started teaching and I would think someone would know how to correct this mistake. So, I have to log out and sign on again or I have to go to the full website which is ridiculous

This most recent update changed it so that SECU appearance changes with the font size and bold options in settings. I wish they would reverse this or add an option to change it on SECU . With larger size and bold font SECU looks awful and doesn’t load properly

Could be so much better

The basics are there, sure, but there’s no search option, it would be nice to have the balance with the pending transactions as well as the available. There’s no way to see your full account numbers on SECU . The option to choose to be notified when below a certain balance would be appreciated also. I’m sure there’s more but this is what I can think of at the moment.

NCSECU needs to modernize their entire “banking” process. You never get answers, only transferred to someone with a different title behind their name and then all you get out of them is “we’re sorry…we appreciate the feedback…” is that so? Not to mention they refuse to allow any third party application connect via PLAID! I know, in my heart of hearts, it’s because of whatever relationship they have with Quicken. If I choose to give permission to whomever to access my bank account, is that not my right? I love the folks at my local branch, but the decision makers, well, that’s another thing. My husband and I couldn’t even apply for a loan until he joined NCSECU? What kind of nonsense is that? Like I said, behind the times. Credit Unions like this are the reason so many people are going to online banking. Where the make the decisions, they’re not made for them. god bless it. I will say, killer rates for car loans. I’m just so confused as to why they deny their members access to extra funds when they need it. Especially since you
have to wait to open a SALO account AN ENTIRE YEAR after you’ve closed yours. Behind the times.

Can’t get mobile deposit to work

I continue to input the check amount and as soon as I hit done, it changes the amount to a super long number. I will not take my exact check amount and it’s less than $100. I have rebooted my phone. Deleted and reinstalled SECU . Have the latest version and it’s still doing this. Please help!

Unable To Connect

I have tried to open SECU for a week and I keep getting the message “unable to launch SECU at the moment. Please try again later”. I have updated SECU and I still receive the message below. I have enjoyed SECU and its ability and functions. However I am frustrated that my current issue has not been resolved and it is now the end of the week. Please advise thanks.

Screen downgrade

Woke up this morning and opened app to check balances. Instead of seeing a list of my accounts with balances I get 2 balloons with a single account balance in each. Previously all my deposit accounts fit on one screen and I only had to scroll down to see my loans. How is this an enhancement ??

Love SECU - not the app

I bank with other credit unions whose apps are leaps and bounds more advanced than this app’s. Would be great to be able to do external ACH transfers, transfer to other members, add comments to transactions and transfers between accounts, etc. I am hoping this app makes substantial improvements soon.

Issues with messaging and depositing

I’ve used other apps for banking, and while I do see your attempts at trying to make SECU better, there are still some issues.

Messaging within SECU shows that it’ll accept and send up to 2,000 characters, yet it refuses to send, displaying only “Message not delivered” and “try again”
I tried again REPEATEDLY and was well within the supposed 2,000 characters, and it still refused to send, displaying the same “Message not delivered…etc.”
ONLY when I deleted most of the message that I needed to send would it actually send! Absolutely frustrating 🤬
Also, your check deposit is not at all clear as to how to do it - even after reading the “tutorial”…I tried to deposit several ways, with no success.
3 stars because you’re trying, but app just doesn’t seem to be ready for prime time.

It’s a decent app, but I get so tired of the fact that every other time I login I’m told I need to update before I can just check my bank account.

I am so happy the spp finally has mobile deposit. I dont live close to a bank so mobile deposit is so convenient. The problem I have is the moblie deposit only allows you to deposit 10 checks. Once you reach that limit you cannot deposit anymore for another month! That makes things inconvenient. Wish they didn’t limit your moblie deposits or at least up it to more than 10.

Notifications?

Can we get a new feature to allow us to receive notifications when a deposit is made? You guys are one of the only ones not to have this feature.

Needs a notes option for transferred funds

App needs the option to leave a note (to yourself) for transferred funds. It would make our life easier when we are referencing the transaction later.

This has been an improving app, especially with the new check deposit feature. Update to issue below: Issue was resolved and I don’t have any issues with SECU now. Seems to do all it needs to do.

Previous issue: for the past few months it’s been unusable on my phone because when I log in SECU jumps up about half the screen and I can’t see anything above the middle of SECU . I couldn’t even get to the “Feedback” option because of the glitch. I’ve deleted and redownloaded multiple times, turned my phone off an on again. Still no luck. Hopefully it’s not something widespread, but until this is resolved, it’s useable for me.

Can’t sign in

App was ok when it worked. I’ve noticed that after your initial set up on one phone you’re not able to sign in on another phone. This means when you buy another phone, you’re not able get access to your account. This makes no sense. The people who built SECU should know there are people with multiple phones.

UPDATE: app still does not work! Will now allow me to set it up for the first time and says the process was successful but when I try to log in after the setup, it constantly says wrong PIN. When I use FaceID, it just stays spinning forever. SECU is a failure, this app delayed SECU for like 2 years only to release an app that doesn’t work.

Continual setup issues with updates saying resolved but they are not

I am unable to setup the NCSECU Mobile App, version 2.0.4, for iPhone on iOS version 13.1.2 build 17A860, current public build.

Attempting initial setup following all prompts, I enter a 5 digit passcode after receiving my verification text message. I then get an error stating the passcode I just created and re entered is incorrect. This error occurs whether Face ID is enabled or not. I have tried different passcodes, quitting SECU after setup and then attempting to login. All attempts fail and present a passcode incorrect prompt. When attempting to authenticate via Face ID if enabled during setup, it will load indefinitely and present a spinning authentication icon but never authenticate.

It is very frustrating to have SECU not work on iOS for the last two to three months after multiple versions of SECU stating they have resolved issues. Given the long development time of SECU and the long lead times for develop with beta versions of iOS availed for developers it is unprofessional and downright beginner level from a top tier bank in NC. I update iOS upon new version release solely for security improvements provided. Not having SECU work shows how little development time and resources NCSECU is willing to devote to a safe and secure way to manage and view financial resources when competitors had these features and benefits enabled, developed, and available for years.

Like so many others I am thrilled to see an App finally released. I have been planning to leave this bank solely based on the fact that there was not an app that would allow me to do banking simply and easily on the go. The reason for my disappointment is the lack of ability to deposit a check via SECU . This is essential especially since this bank is closed on Saturday.

Great job on SECU design itself. It is aesthetically pleasing and simple enough to use without extra clutter. Ideally some of the content in the more section gets built out to keep you natively in SECU rather than pushing you to a website. Congrats, I hope to see rapid development and enhancements.

One big thing

First of all, thank you so much for finally creating an app! I’m very grateful for this, as I’ve been using a safari shortcut on my iPhone. The one big thing is the passcode. I have small lady thumbs, and I’m often in a hurry when transferring money between accounts, and I need as few steps as possible to get in. I would really rather just use my fingerprint to get into SECU , and that was the good thing about using the safari shortcut, it was only 2 taps and no thumb acrobatics to get in. So PLEASE make this accessible with a fingerprint because folks are busy these days! I love that you made an app, and I would hate to have to keep using the shortcut for that one reason! Thank you!

Buggy with updates and when is mobile deposit coming?????

Glitches in display with new update and forced me to do setup from scratch. WHEN is mobile deposit coming??? Every time I see there’s an update for SECU I get so excited that maybe, just maybe, it’s finally here. But every time I’ve been disappointed. SECU is usually ok but I could just as easily use my phone browser for all the features it doesn’t have. I would have thought that in a tech centered area like NC there would have been a lot better app at this point, like 4 years ago.

It’s time for mobile deposit

My wife and I have had NCSECU for more than 15 years. 5 years ago we moved to TN and wanted to keep our account. However, not having a mobile app where we can make check deposits almost pushed us to a local bank. Then SECU came out and I was so excited...except no mobile deposit feature. Here we are...December of 2019 and still no mobile deposit. This isn’t like flying to the moon in 1969. When will we get mobile deposit?? If that’s not the current priority feature for your dev team then you need a new product owner.

It is ABOUT TIME for SECU! I’m very glad to see it, and perhaps one of my stars is for the sheer relief of knowing it now exists. Agreed with another reviewer that there’s more to do, particularly mobile deposit, maybe clean up some controls for transactions to make them easier. Learn from an app like USAA’s, which is very good and gets incrementally better over time.

In the meantime, THANK YOU to whomever finally forced this issue at this app and said “get a darned app produced.” Setup is pretty easy, interface is attractive and informative. Good start- keep it going with newer versions that have more features. :-)

We’ve been waiting years for this app to get an app so I know that alone has us all happy, the only update I would like is notifications for when you make debit/credit card purchases. I would also like a section where it basically tells you what you’ve mostly spent your money on -like a pie chart. I know there are notifications for the basic checking account, but I have a CPG account and would like to have the ability to have card notifications from it as it is my primary card.

Mobile Deposit Request

The only issue I have is mobile deposit needs to be an added feature. It makes things simpler from a user standpoint maybe not from an app developer. Other than that, SECU is user friendly, I like the fact FaceID or TouchID is an option for authentication, biometrics for the win! Everything you need in a banking app except for what I mentioned above. Once the Mobile Deposit feature because a thing, I will change my rating.

Portrait vs. Landscape

Good start! Agree with previously-mentioned ideas for improvement. One item I didn’t see mentioned was that SECU can (apparently) only be viewed in the “Portrait” mode. Just me perhaps, but I’d really like to see a “Settings” tab, which, among other things, would offer the choice of changing to the “Landscape” mode. All of my other Apps on my iPad appear in the “Landscape” mode. If the developers of those Apps figured out a way to do this, I’m guessing this app can also.

I’m 31 and have always had this app. My better half argued for us to use USAA and a big selling point for me was their app. Both this app and usaa have good rates but us starting a joint account made sense to have easy access to our budget. this app’s website was so antiquated and lack of app made me stop using it as my primary account. THANK GOD a forward thinking person got through to “someone” at this app and got SECU built. It’s like going from writing checks to have a debit card. Welcome to 2019 this app Fam!

I was waiting for SECU and when it arrived I immediately began to evaluate its user friendliness. I use it to check balances, track transactions, and manage payments to the bill pay feature. So far it works well, and as promised I will give it five stars since Face ID and fingerprint ID have been added. I look forward to any and all updates that will enhance the user features. Also, I hope to see a secure way to transfer funds to this app members.

I’ve been with this app since I started banking at 18. 9 years later this is still my primary bank! For years I’ve been waiting for them to develop an app. That one faithfully morning when I was attempting to log onto the mobile site to view my DD and that notification popped up that said they had an app was one of the happiest days of my life. SECU is so easy to use, convenient, the layout is great and it makes transfers and advances a breeze. What really sold me, I emailed customer service and thanked them for finally creating SECU and let them know all it was missing was Face ID. They finally added that feature this week but what really sold me, customer service actually took the time to personally email me and tell me it was now available for use on SECU . I was so touched. My children’s children’s children will bank with this app when I tell them how much this bank has done for me. 5 stars!

Excellent Support

I reached out to the developers a few weeks back asking if FaceId would be added in a future update. The response was fast and friendly and informed the feature was in the works and would be coming soon. The recent update added FaceId and the SECU runs flawlessly. I really appreciate UI design well. Everything feels polished and is easy to comprehend. Looking forward to future updates and keep up the great work!
