I am getting this prompt: “your version of Unistellar is too old” - my iOS is the latest (15) so this is on your side. Please fix ASAP as this is completely unusable for my Christmas gift! :(

When I first got this scope in 2021, Unistellar was simpler, everything worked like a dream.
Now, after many app upgrades, this expensive telescope has been rendered practically junk by one of the worst apps on my iPhone.
Why?
1. The scope is fully charged and turned on.
2. The wifi works, my iPhone connects easily.
3. I open Unistellar , go to the telescope settings, it says “not connected.”
4. I keep waiting. Nothing happens.
5. I wait longer, the clear sky gets beautifully starry.
6. Nope, the wifi is still connected, but Unistellar cannot connect to the scope.
7. I turn off everything, repeat all the steps above, nothing changes. Same results, or no result, period.
8. I dismantle everything, pack everything away to write this review.
Hello this app! Hope you are still on earth and reading this review. I would be happy to get my money back and return this scope to you. I know it’s wishful thinking😱.

Last time I went to connect it took around 10 to 15 minutes. Horrible experience. Okay, now you are connected. I am an urban backyard observer, so when I look at the catalog why do I have to click the oversized icon on the object AGAIN to get its position and elevation? There is so much wasted screen real estate when the position could be right there, on the catalog. But no, they have to have a picture of a star. Very poor interface design, not thought out and detracts from the telescope itself.

the only way to get it to run orientation is by connecting to the scope and then turning my phone off into airplane mode for a second and then turning it back on. if this doesn’t crash Unistellar , then and only then does the prompt that lets me run telescope orientation appear. this is a $5000 telescope. i shouldn’t have to have to find this insane work around for the software everytime i want to use it. additionally the oriention is wrong about 30% of the time and i have to start the whole thing over or it will attempt to go in the opposite direction to find objects i can see with my naked eye. actively looking for a new telescope to run my astro tours because this one has let me down for over a year now.
Update: Developer has commented on this post and all the other recent poor reviews asking for a bevy of information. I gave a detailed account of what I have to do to make it work and many of the other reviews express their encountered problems. With the amount of negative recent reviews developer should have all the information necessary to realize they need to make serious corrections to the UI.

Evscope 2 is a well built piece of hardware but I find that ZWO has done a much better job for their seestar computational scope than this app. For the most expensive computational scope available, this app should at a minimum improve the functionality of their app and their stacking software. Have a night sky planetarium view on the phone and being able to just point at an object for goto operation of the scope, better control and visibility into image stacking, and extracting raw files to the phone. Why does a $499 scope offer all this but a $4999 scope doesn’t?

The old app was fine. Could use some minor tweaks (like filter by nearby objects if I'm already looking at one) but it was easy enough to refocus, take photos, and find objects.
The new app buries key features...like orienting the telescope! The number one thing you need to do. It's also buggy, so after every object I found I'd have to go back all the way out, go into settings, and reclaim ownership. Super frustrating.
It also claims objects are outside a FOV I set. I never set a FOV, nor do I see any settings to let do so.
Please make the basic settings available on a pages. Please also let me find objects nearby so I don't have to download Starwalk just to see what's around. This update is so bad it is making me regret buying the telescope.

Unistellar forces auto updates too often. This latest one seems to have a a problem as now I can not use the telescope, after setup in the dark because the update fails with message try again. I’ve tried 30 times but no luck. This was fine last week!!!!
Stop messing around.
There does not seem to be an update Unistellar button in Unistellar .
An update button is needed so it is possible to do that before packing everything up!

Unistellar is a really good start. It would be nice if the scope could connect to my home WiFi network...
Keep up the good work.

I was an early adopter and ordered my scope durning the kickstarter. After waiting very impatiently for my telescope, I was rewarded with views of the sky that I only dreamed of with my previous telescopes. I absolutely love the design and capabilities. The only problem….. it makes me want more. The ability to see nebulas in full color, star clusters, planets and more has been very exciting for me and I’ve had many compliments and wows from friends and strangers.
So far the software has worked quite well for me. I’ve not experienced any issues. The addition of the planet mode was a welcome addition, and now being able to track the sun is a cool plus too.
I’d like to see a few additions that shouldn’t be to hard to add in future upgrades.
*I’d love to be able to store custom targets. I navigated to an Einstein Cross, which took a good bit of star hopping. It would be awesome to store that target for future viewing.
*Also adding a mosaic mode would be a long awaited addition. It can be done manually, but is a lot of work stitching the picture together.
*A picture editing feature built into the software would be nice. Not necessary, but it’s nice to stay inside the one program when you can.

Love my evscope. It makes astronomy accessible as as a hobby for anyone. Unistellar is fantastic. Three problems it has is: (1) it kicks me out as being the operator several times an hour even though I don’t have guests who are trying to share my scope; (2) the Wi-Fi connection between my scope and my phone is not stable and I have to reconnect a lot; and (3) the overlays placed on the images often misidentify the image as being whatever celestial object I am currently slewing to.

Hi, I just received a new Evscope and as soon as it connects to Unistellar on my IPhone, Unistellar crashes. When are you going to fix this?

This is a great step towards making finding stars in the sky easy for everyone. This works really well with their telescope. Each update adds some new fun functionality and I can’t wait to see what else they come up with.

Paired with the EVScope, the this app software makes amazing astronomy accessible to the lay person. I can set up my telescope on the roof of my downtown apartment building (Bortle 8) and get amazing photos of distant galaxies and beautiful nebulae and star clusters. The software is easy to use and I can share the viewing with my friends when they load Unistellar on their phones.
Looking forward to participating in Citizen Science. Already I have sent pictures of an asteroid occulation to a scientist in Europe.
Checkout pictures on Facebook. You will be impressed.

this app has created powerful telescopes that anyone, even with no prior Telescope or astronomical experience, can operate and image with.
The worldwide this app Community of over 10,000 telescope users & a vibrant social media presence offers so much.
Science observations in a wide range of disciplines- planetary defense, comets, transient events and more- offers this app owners the opportunity to participate in real time data collection.
Finally, this app Customer Service & Support is top notch.
this app Smart Telescopes are leading the way to a generational change on how we observe and image the Universe.

The this app app is the companion app for the this app eVscope (4.5” telescope). While the scope has the amazing ability of light gathering, Unistellar is what controls and literally makes observing so easy with the scope. Using GPS from your phone through Unistellar , the scope determines the scope's location so that utilizing it's star database it can easily align the scope in under a minute so observing can begin.
Within Unistellar there are five areas, the observing screen; the deep sky object database for selection; Citizen science; saved image review and settings. Each function very well and make observing deep sky objects very simple and easy - even from the middle of large cities.

Good morning. I updated to version 1.1 on my iPhone. After the upgrade there was a “Ugrade to the EVScope” That seemed to work
Next I opened the this app app ceutrently installed on my iPad. Not sure if the 1.1 version updated on the iPad because it immediately goes to upgrading the EvScope. And that seems to be in a loop or something. It’s never finishing.
Any ideas?

The combination of Unistellar with the this app eVScope is revolutionary. To be able to turn a telescope on, have it figure out what part of the sky it is pointed at, and from there point to any other object in the sky is amazing. Add to that the enhanced vision, essentially real time long exposure stacking by the telescope and you have a revolutionary telescope. I have seen and photographed more objects with this scope in 3 months than I have in the past 30 years with “go to” scopes. And being able to see objects in color, in real time, rather than the faint gray blobs in traditional visual astronomy, is very rewarding.

Unistellar works well as an integral part of eVscope observing and image management. Hopefully, active and more frequent updates will start for Version 2. Really would like the ability to also capture raw image files for post processing.
An option to set the scope to save then find and automatically repeat the last goto and restart in enhanced mode when passing clouds interrupt enhanced image captures would be great.
