4.2 out of 5
Useless

PanasonicLUMIXSync is quite literally useless. Just bought my Lumix s5ii that I’m very pleased with. However, I film myself, so having something that allows me to be able to control the camera from my phone is crucial! Problem is, is that the connectivity between the camera and my phone is absolutely nonexistent. It only works LITERALLY about 5% of the time and that’s extremely frustrating because PanasonicLUMIXSync is NICE. It has all of the controls I need to film myself without having to go back and forth 3 trillion times and everything but what’s all that worth if my phone disconnects within 0.3 seconds of it connecting? Extremely frustrating. And what makes it worse is that I’d have to go buy a third party transmitter for it that might not even work properly. There’s got to be a work around… If you offer something like this, at least make sure it works at least 80% of the time, or sell a transmitter built for your brand that could replace this.

Impossible to connect

The paradox of an app called "Sync" is that, as many others have reported, it can't actually connect to the camera.

It also demands that you provide it access to your location. I can't think of a single legititmate reason why an app for controlling PanasonicLUMIXSync would need that, so I assume spying on users' whereabouts is a secondary income stream. That intrusion isn't acceptable to start with, but especially not when PanasonicLUMIXSync doesn't even work. You had one job, Panasonic, and you failed miserably.

Simply doesn’t work

How can an app have a 4+ star rating when almost every recent review is 1 or 2 stars? PanasonicLUMIXSync refuses to connect to the camera. I have a 2 year old iphone. I tried PanasonicLUMIXSync about a year ago with the same results. Bluetooth connectivity is so easy these days. Even small companies are able to do it with no issues. How can a company like Panasonic not get it right? This illustrates that they don’t really care about their customers. Because the simplest amount of user testing would have exposed these flaws. Either they are incompetent or they did find these flaws in testing and decided to screw the customers anyway. I would hate to work for a company that cannot fix their app over a two year period.

Horrible

Not sure how this has an average rating of 4.2 stars!? Just got a new camera. The remote shooting feature is important to me. PanasonicLUMIXSync only connects to the camera for literally
5 seconds. The disconnect happens before I can even get in frame. I’ve tried most major camera brands and they all have horrible apps, with the exception of Nikon’s being the most reliable, but this one takes the cake for being the worst. It’s useless.

Don’t recommend this app

I don’t enable GPS on my phone for any apps, unless I get lost and need a map location.

But this “LUMIX” app requires GPS to be turned on at all times to use PanasonicLUMIXSync . Aside from privacy not being possible with LUMIX, and photos being geo-tagged (which I always have disabled on my phone), this is a huge drain on phone battery life.

There is absolutely no reason why, when using a WiFi connection, PanasonicLUMIXSync must REQUIRE your precise location to be shared at all times and GPS turned on.

I completely regret getting this Panasonic camera. Had I known I couldn’t use PanasonicLUMIXSync without enabling location services at all times, I never would have gotten this camera.

Aside from the location/privacy issue, PanasonicLUMIXSync is clunky, difficult, and time consuming to pair with a camera once gps is temporarily turned on.

PanasonicLUMIXSync leads me to suggest that customers rethink buying a Panasonic brand camera and look elsewhere if they want the ability to upload pictures to their phone.

Needs LUT Support

PanasonicLUMIXSync has slowly gotten better over the years but it’s still missing a crucial feature: LUTs. If you are shooting V-log, PanasonicLUMIXSync does not utilize the V-log assist viewing options so you’re left with a flat, desaturated image. Not appropriate when using the wireless feed for client monitor. Should be an easy fix so kind of baffled why this isn’t already included after all these years.

Once connected it’s great

Works great when connected via Bluetooth but if you don’t use it all the time to import photos it’s a big pain to connect to iPhone 15 pro max This is after you delete n try to pare again. It’s a big pain n takes for ever to do. Should be easier Says to operate camera to join, but the camera won’t do anything. Please fix PanasonicLUMIXSync to make connection easier.

Connected once, buggy operation, could not reconnect

S5IIx w/latest firmware, iOS 16.6.1, all permissions ON, cannot Join Network.

Connected once, app became unstable while remotely monitoring and operating the camera. Connection failed, unable to reconnect. Power cycled camera, force closed app, checked app permissions multiple times. The Panasonic Image app works fine on the same phone, I’ve used it for years. I film myself and use the Image app with GH5 weekly.

Was great issues with WiFi - iOS13

LUMIX S1 - iPhone XS
App worked great until I installed iOS13. Since my S1 has only connected by Bluetooth and can only be used as a remote with no image preview. When PanasonicLUMIXSync connected via WiFi it was GREAT. Better than the Canon, Nikon and Sony equivalents. Also better than the Image App Panasonic has. Once the iOS13 WiFi big is fixed I’ll happily give it 5 stars.

Would be even better if you could upload any image to the sheer overlay like you can with the lumix tether app! That would be HUGE!

NO Raw file transfer to iOS

Unfortunately you can’t send raw files to iOS smartphone. One of the main reasons I needed PanasonicLUMIXSync . Transferring images without a computer for quick edits. Very dissatisfied. But everything else seems to work fine. I can control the camera remotely taking photos and video. I hope this can be fixed. I’d gladly change the 2 stars I gave.

Panasonic should be ashamed of this app

Hello. 1950 calling. They want their app back!
Okay for a corporation as huge as Panasonic and designed for a camera range that starts at over $2500, PanasonicLUMIXSync is a joke.
If you have the patience of a saint and 45 minutes to waste you might be able to get PanasonicLUMIXSync to connect to your iOS device.
On my iPad i quickly found that the connection process only works in portrait mode although once (and if) connected you can use the rest of PanasonicLUMIXSync in landscape. This implies to me that a different incompetent wrote the setup program...
There is so much wrong with PanasonicLUMIXSync that I will just get to the point.
Please Panasonic hire a six year old to write you a new program, even a room filled with monkeys banging on keyboards could do better than this. PanasonicLUMIXSync is an embarrassment to your brand and for anyone counting on having a remote app this should be a deal breaker.
Verdict: terrible terrible terrible
On a scale of 1-10 I rate PanasonicLUMIXSync a 0

Designed only for phone users... Not for tablet users :(

PanasonicLUMIXSync has huge “potential” to make a great remote operating device. PanasonicLUMIXSync UX needs to adapt and work depending on the platform that the user is operating from. If it’s an iPhone the user is operating from, then PanasonicLUMIXSync ’s remote operating framework may be just enough as we have a smaller real estate / canvas area to play with. But the same UI when scaled-up proportionately is not the best use / user experience on an iPad Pro. The large display of scaled up graphics and buttons may not be the reason a user may want to open PanasonicLUMIXSync on a tablet. As a users, I would want to see more detail through the lens view port than the scaled up buttons and controls. Provide a hide controls functionality so users can see the full view of the live view port. Please make adjustments to the layout such that the controls and settings can appear on the bottom horizontally.

Keep the action buttons small as the iPhone UI and that’s enough for users to clearly see and select actions or make adjustments remotely but the camera view port should be maximized to offer more visibility of the subject.

There are issues with connectivity, speed of response, range, etc., that I’m not repeating that others have already mentioned.

Hope to see some updates soon.

Missing key feature

These days view luts on camera becoming normal and the mobile app is good enough but missing some functionalities but one of the key feature would be if Panasonic can allow users to view the same LUT via PanasonicLUMIXSync , can be installed in phone. This would be an amazing feature to stop using external monitors and work with what we have in pockets.

Works better than LUMIX lab, but missing one crucial feature

It has way better frame rate than lumix lab, which drops frames constantly while in live view, however PanasonicLUMIXSync has no view assist for shooting in a log profile!

Troubleshooting

I’m downloading videos straight to my iPhone but noticed a video longer that 15 minutes freezes every time I try. The video fully downloads and says 18 minutes but on my phone when I play it, after the 15 mark it freezes??? The video when played on my camera is in full and totally fine. What’s the issue?

Good but tricky

If PanasonicLUMIXSync connected to the phone and camera in a more proactive manner, It would be so nice. But I’m struggling every time to get the three synced. The wording is often confusing and lacks meaning of what it’s trying to say. It’s not very intuitive to the new user at all. I wish it functioned more like apple earbuds connecting to your iPhone but it’s more like setting up a home entertainment system in the 90s.

Works flawlessly

I have used PanasonicLUMIXSync with my S5M2 for more than a year and it works as advertised. I've used it for photo and video and have never had any issues. Other reviewers said it cannot connect ... however, I have never experienced that issue. If you'd like a remote option for your LUMIX camera, this is a great choice.

It works on panasonic G7

I have always wanted to use my iphone as a monitor for my g7. The other apps i have used in the past stops displaying as soon as g7 starts recording. PanasonicLUMIXSync solves all of that problem. Now i can monitor what my camera is recording on my phone. And i can control a lot more functions. Thank you. PanasonicLUMIXSync is perfect for me. I just wish there is a way to make the video full screen when monitoring.

Love This App!

Coming from Fuji Cam Remote and Olympus, this LUMIX app is a breeze! I primarily use it for getting jpegs off of my S1H, and I love how after the initial setup it continues to work whenever I use it with my iPhone. With Fuji Cam Remote I would randomly have to reset the connection between my phone and camera every few weeks… that is not the case with LUMIX sync! It’s been working great since day 1. Thank you LUMIX :)

The best of the market

I have recently tested and compared the Nikon, Sony and Leica apps to this new Lumix app, and the Leica and Lumix are the two that are reliable and most stable. Read the comments here, the users who rate it 1 Star, don’t even noticed this is ONLY for the Lumix S1 camera series... i use it to do geotagging from my iPhone without the battery draining issue I had with my Nikon (850 and Z7). I use it to transfer raw files to Lightroom mobile on my iPad Pro. Yes, the 250+ Mpix high resolutions raw files transfer like a charm to my tablet! Amazing Panasonic! Thanks
