Nice App, but Soundsense is no big deal

It’s nice to have WIDEXEVOKE to create additional programs and to adjust the left and right levels independently.
Soundsense is really overhyped. All it does is adjust the EQ on an existing program which you can then save. It does it by doing multiple A/B comparisons, but the net is still just an EQ setting. They call it Bass/Middle/Treble, but I have a hard time calling anything over 100 hertz bass, so it’s really Middle/Treble/High Treble. You can only do the Soundsense once for a favorite you save, so to tweak it at all, you just adjust the EQ. It’s a novel approach, but I’d much rather have more bands of EQ.
Using your own background photos is a nice feature. It’d be nice to also be able to use your own icons, though, since the ones they have are very limited and if you create a lot of favorites, you have to duplicate icons which to me kind of defeats the idea of icons. I also wish it didn’t call all of them “favorite”. I get that it can’t reliable pronounce whatever you choose to name it, but it could say “favorite one”, “favorite two”, or something like that to at least distinguish between them.
It’s a good start, though, and hopefully future updates will add more useful function.

Evoke Hearing aids and app

I am very impressed with my new hearing aids and WIDEXEVOKE. I was in desperate need of new hearing aids. I got these and there is a slight hassle but well worth nothing t dealing with earphones to listen to music. Now, on my IPhone 7 I am able to utilize my hearing aids with a tap of a button on this Evoke app and switch from normal hearing to Music setting, which makes it sound like it’s in stereo. With me being hard of hearing my whole life and love to listen to music, these have improved my listening experience above and beyond my expectations. I can understand every word in songs, which I have never been able to do until my iPhone earphones and now my Pandora automatically routes to my hearing aids. Totally amazing technology. I also have an IPhone 6 but so far not figured out why I can’t seem to get them to Bluetooth to WIDEXEVOKE? I’m still learning but all in all “great app”.

Not a bad app

Have used my hearing aids (Widex 440) for over 4 months now with WIDEXEVOKE and an iPhone X, have not had the problems mentioned in the other reviews. The only dropouts I have had is when the batteries gave out because I didn’t heed the warning’s that the batteries were low. I have used the different programs and they do work as advertised the restaurant program helps me hear individual people at my table, the transport program helps me hear people better in the car and the music program allows me to hear music much better with the full frequency range that I don’t get just with my ears. I can’t say that using them with Bluetooth listening to music on my phone is anywhere near as good as my Apple Air Pods but they are serviceable in a pinch. The only gripe I have is with the battery level, it indicates 100% until the aids start telling you that the battery is low and then they give out 4-6 hours later.

Unbelievable

The volume level fluctuates by itself left and right set to sync, then on of the aids volume will jump from 40 to 95 and make you want to yank them out and throw. Will not switch from iPhone to iPad without turning Bluetooth off on the one device you were using, go to new device, charge Bluetooth follow same set up as install through accessibility, open and close hearing aids , wait while wheel spins after about 3-4 minutes, surrender and repeat, after repeat #3 or 4 it will connect to new device in which you will have forgotten what you were going to do. Approx 3 days later you will try again and it will work, you will run to tell your wife that you have it figured out, and half way through conversation the volume on one or both will jump to 100 and the massive feedback loop will have you and your dogs flipping from side to side on the ground screaming till you can pull them out and reset volume. They have made me more alert and paranoid not knowing when....., and this kids happens every time a iOS update comes out. Have fun!

Watch app needs fine tuning

I am just testing a pair of Widex and other than the sound (which is much more pleasant to this musician), the availability of an Apple Watch app was a draw. Using WIDEXEVOKE is simple enough by going to WIDEXEVOKE screen. However, there is no “complication” available—no way to access WIDEXEVOKE by adding it as part of a regular watch face! Of all the functionality you want to have quick and easy access to, being able to adjust your hearing aid parameters would seem to be among the most needed! An app is good, but being able to add it as a complication is a key part of the Apple Watch experience. Two stars for WIDEXEVOKE now, but ready to up my review if I buy these and I have better access to WIDEXEVOKE .

SIX WEEKS LATER. I have purchased them and the sound really is much better than anything else I’ve tried.

I want to add a star for the device, but I can’t for WIDEXEVOKE . The issue is the battery charge indicators. They only show good or dead—nothing in-between. Certainly that can be added so we can be aware visually as well as hearing the quick audio prompt in the devices. We should be able to see battery level. Please make this a main focus...several have already mentioned this.

ALSO, a couple of times a day WIDEXEVOKE hangs on opening, and I have to force quit, or re-pair the devices to get it to boot. Occasionally, I need to soft reset the phone. I’m on an iPhone 8 running iOS 13.1.3.

Dangerous for cyclists

Widex evoke fusion 2 with iPhoneX

WIDEXEVOKE has some interesting features like soundlearn so you can educate it to what works for you. Problem is WIDEXEVOKE likes to take control which can be downright life threatening.

Set WIDEXEVOKE to what you want. Use streaming and WIDEXEVOKE changes settings. I cycle and motorcycle and use the aids for navigation. If you set WIDEXEVOKE for streaming with maps it automatically switches modes between voice prompts which is dangerous. On a motorcycle it is worst as I want the aids off as I normally use earplugs but I want streaming on. There is no way to lock these settings as they will auto switch between the streamed prompts and amplification when I need them streaming only. This switching can be pronounced and disruptive. Not something you want when driving. Also amplifying loud noise is damaging for hearing.

Get you act together and give users control - allow manual override or settings lock. You will kill someone otherwise.

You’d expect any company with a $4k product to have direct customer support. They don’t. Even reporting a dangerous bug doesn’t EVOKE a response.

Widex are owned by WS Audiology of Singapore. They also own Signia, Audio Services, Siemens and others. All great products. All destroyed by a negligent lack of customer care. I know care costs - as does lack of care as customers can walk.

Sort Of

Good: WIDEXEVOKE comes with some preset programs (eg Universal, Music) and it allows you to save your own variation of those programs.

Not Good: Accessing those user created programs is a pain:
a) They don’t show up in the Hearing Aid icon in iOS’ Control Center window (just the preset ones do). So you can’t select your user defined programs from there.
b) There’s no interaction between the Widex Evoke app and iOS Shortcuts feature at all. So you can’t select your user defined (or even the preset) programs from there.
c) Even in the Widex Evoke app, newly saved user programs are saved off of the main window of WIDEXEVOKE to the right. You can’t change the sort order of the programs or manually rearrange them.

So, for example, you go into a restaurant and want to change to a user defined program for that environment. You have to
• unlock your phone
• find the Widex app icon
• start WIDEXEVOKE
• wait for Bluetooth to connect to your hearing aid
• on WIDEXEVOKE ’s main window, swipe the program icons over to the right where your user defined icon lives
• click on the user defined program you want

And then when you leave the restaurant and need a different program, you have to do all of those steps all over again. Workable but a pain.

Software/Bluetooth Bugs in Streaming, Calls.

I have had 5 new Evoke devices in the 11 months since I spent almost $7,000 on technology that does not meet its customer promise. 8 out of 10 times I must restart my L device to assure my device sound is balanced according to UCLA audiologist settings. This is chronic while using iPhone 10, iPad Pro 11. The connection problem occurs while streaming music, making and receiving calls and listening to podcasts. The platform us getting more stable, and Widex seems to care, but they are unable to resolve their Bluetooth software bug.

Update

WIDEXEVOKE needs to be updated. Since the latest iOS update, there are many bugs. It takes several attempts to get them connected. The aids don’t stay on my preferred daily program. After spending thousands to try to hear, i find it irresponsible that there is no feedback from the company.

A person from Widex contacted me and assured us they are working on the problems. I appreciate the customer service taking time to respond. So my review goes back to five stars. The iOS update means they have to update their app, and they are working on it. Thank you, Widex.

Widex evoke

I have had my widex evoke aids for around a year and really like them. The Bluetooth from the phone is great. Sometimes when I change programs it takes a little while to change both aids but it does it automatically. The next time I go to the eye clinic they will fix that. My ears ring about 80% of the time and these aids really help me hear. I do not use the zin function because of personal preference.I really like using the Hearing Center (Harbin Clinic) here in Rome Ga. Being satisfied with your provider is the first step to being satisfied with your aids !

Developers look at the comments

I paid $7000 for these hearing aids and I cannot connect. I have an iPhone XS max I realize that connectivity is based on your Wi-Fi connection. WIDEXEVOKE is constantly changing the volume setting up to 100%. it goes back-and-forth it’s an awful app .Do something to fix it please . I had great hopes and have worn Widex hearing aids for decades. it’s very frustrating and anxiety producing for people who have hearing loss. You have the most expensive hearing aids on the market and you need to do something about the apps that go along with them. I want to also mention the demo for your evoke hearing aid app it’s nothing like WIDEXEVOKE that I get when I download your product! Its nothing like it at all so what the heck why is that?

Inconsistent performance

I use this Widex app because it pairs with the Widex hearing aids I use. My provider recommends them as best for my needs, and having tried others I agree Widex in-ear have superior performance. WIDEXEVOKE , however, is inconsistent. You can set up a separate program, for TV for example, save it, but when you use it it defaults back to the original base program after random number of minutes. So I have to manually reprogram every time I use for TV. I’ve read other reviews, and you’d think that the company might be more responsive, but apparently there are no OS updates. Very disappointing for both the high performance of the aids and frankly for the price.

Amazing. But Not Perfect

I love the ability to tailor my hearing aids to different sound environments. The Evoke hearing aids do well automatically sensing environments, but WIDEXEVOKE allows you to take it to the next level.

My three favorite custom programs: for Walt Disney Concert Hall; for my very noisy Cessna aircraft; and for hearing table conversations in loud restaurants.

Unfortunately, it does not show battery condition for each ear in any detail—very odd. When a battery fails, it won’t show until you start getting audio warnings. And it’s impossible to tune and save frequency response except through the “favorites” process—which is best, A or B?

2.5 years and still full of software bugs

The instability of their software is inexcusable at this point. As an engineer for years, I couldn’t release a product with this many software bugs , mustless this long in the development cycle. If this was a brand new product, I can see software bugs. But they should actively be making updates.

I’m having to reset the devices multiple times a day to make them right again. Often one will switch to TV (or any other program I have through WIDEXEVOKE ) and the other won’t. Sometimes one side adjusts volume to full volume while the other side is at 5. If I attempt to mute due to feedback, like if I decide to take a nap, often only one side will mute.

They have been back to the manufacturer once (sending again soon) and I’ve been back to my provider many times.

Maybe it’s time to go to another brand? These continuing issues, and the last app update was 8 months ago? It’s obvious none of the software developers USE the product...

Want this to work!

I tried the Widex Evoke 330 and LOVED the sound! Unfortunately, WIDEXEVOKE is possessed and turns off on of the aids intermittently without my even touching my phone. I went back to my audiologist and she took the evokes back and loaned me a pair of resounds (the sound is not even close to as good!). I contacted Widex online through chat and the rep kept insisting that my iPad was the problem. I explained that this was happening while my iPad was miles away from my iPhone. Then he said “there are no none issues with WIDEXEVOKE ”. How disappointing!! I’m considering asking my audiologist for another pair and trying them with a Widex remote, however for this much money these things should work with WIDEXEVOKE !! Come on Widex! You’ve invested time in getting a great sound. Fix WIDEXEVOKE !

Widex Evoke App problems

I wish you would get a better app to go with these hearing aids. I get tired of it not recognizing the hearing aids. I can go into Settings, Accessibility, & Hearing Aids and control the volume and program, but I shouldn’t need to do that. Many times to get it to work, I delete app, shut down Bluetooth, turn phone off and then redo everything to get it back. Sometimes it works. Even though batteries are good, I’ve changed them and sometimes that will make it work. I like several features on WIDEXEVOKE , but it is frustrating to get to it many times. I think for the price of hearing aids, you could improve your app!

Developers

WIDEXEVOKE is good. 1. It would be beneficial if I could save the “music” adjustments preferences, instead of being forced to creat a new music setting. 2. If the saved settings could be rearranged this would solve my only “complaint.” As it stands “universal” is the 1st option, then default music and then directional. The setting that I created and use 90% of the time is the 4th option. Other than these two suggestions it’s a good app and product! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Ok app, needs work.

Have had my Evoke hearing aids two weeks now. Overall WIDEXEVOKE is ok. The gps is too broad. It will trigger a favorite in 3 or 4 blocks. So as I drive by my office on the highway my favorite triggers. Then as I loop around the exit it switches to universal then back to my favorite. It’s too annoying so I have disconnected the location from any favorites. These aides have too much static so I’m constantly adjusting the filters. There is also interface somewhere that causes clicking in either the right or left aid. I updated to the current IOS before I got my aids. Haven’t heard of a fix yet.

By

Good/Not Good!

WIDEXEVOKE and/or the hearing aids have major issues!! Like the other reviews, more often than not I have random clicking/static/interference in one or the other hearing aid. I turn it off and back on only to get the clicking in the other hearing aid. I too have to restart WIDEXEVOKE constantly to get a decent connection.... sometimes I even have to reboot my phone to get a clear connection.
I also have constant trouble in my truck with phone calls connecting/competing with hearing aids and vehicle Bluetooth! So much trouble that most callers disconnect before I can fix the connection.
I’m at a point that I’m considering returning my hearing aids instead of fighting these problems!!!
PLEASE configure an update to help with these problems!!!!

Zero stars

I’d give it zero if I could. The settings sometimes start to create static in your ears and I’ve seen a way to delete it recalibrate and them. Hence, you have to create new “favorite” settings and end up with too many “favorites” that tend to lose their calibrations after a while. I’ve reuploaded WIDEXEVOKE hoping for a better auditory experience, but see it has 2.5 stars. It’s quite frustrating hearing all this static when all you want out of your very expensive hearing devices is normal sound. At the moment, I’m losing my mind. Shame on Widex. You owe your customers better than this.

Widex SOUND better!

Just traded my Resound Quattro for Widex Evoke. I am absolutely astounded at how much better they sound. It's like going into test headphones and listening to the $99 pair than listening to the $300 pair. The Quattro were tinny and harsh. It sounded like I was wearing a high frequency amplifier in my ears And Music was unlistenable in terms of streaming. I'm a musician and the Widex sound like "in ear monitors". It's like wearing a really sweet set of earbuds. For normal listening they're really transparent. I don't "hear" them working like I did with the Resound. Plus the software for the rezound didn't work for people who upgraded to the latest iOS on their iPhone. The Widex software works phenomenally. The coolest thing in there is the directionality feature. It's like choosing between microphone patterns in the studio. Plus they fit better- more snug. I'm down with Widex!!! Love em.

Evoke app

I can hopefully get to a point where I love WIDEXEVOKE but it falls short of expectations because it has glaring bugs. For example, equalizer setting do not persist. There is an option to Save As but not an option to simply Save the changes to an existing program. Also, deleting a program does not delete the program. Also programs show in the instructional manual are not available in WIDEXEVOKE . I asked my doctor thinking that he could add the programs but he told me to call Evoke support. If am using latest version of iOS on iPhone 10 Max. Evoke version is current. I am not convinced the developers have a hearing problem otherwise these issues would have been fixed. Walk in their customer shoes for a few days and the bugs will become
very apparent

Won’t stay connected!

WIDEXEVOKE was great for three days. Now WIDEXEVOKE will connect the first time I download it, but when I restart WIDEXEVOKE it just gives me a black screen and a heading that says “title” and the button on the aid won’t change the program.

To get any program besides “universal” on my aids I have to delete WIDEXEVOKE . My husband is a programmer and we’ve tried everything. Reboot, reinstall, then it works until I change apps and when I switch back I get “title” and I’m stuck on universal until I delete WIDEXEVOKE .

I do like the sound and the actual aids, but I hate paying for features that don’t work. I have a little more time to think before I have to return them.
