NOT A FAN

After trying to seriously use the boom navigation and HarleyDavidson. at the recent regional Curves to Cores HOG rally, I find HarleyDavidson has good points and bad points (proprietary induced restrictions) with the route planning and navigation aspect being close to the bad end of things. I have experimented with HarleyDavidson since it was published and find the ride planning and navigation lacking and still difficult to use, even on my 2019 Ultra Limited BoomBox Nav system, although I understand there is a point where the bike Nav system is separate from HarleyDavidson ., neither HarleyDavidson ( via PC or phone) or BoomBox Nav system are user friendly with a few exceptions and trying to map out a ride is frustrating at best. I tried use my phone and Maps with Car-play (a great feature, if access able) which is user friendly however the phone doesn’t fit in the phone cubby. I purchased the HD phone mount at the HOG rally thinking it would work but phone falls out of that. So far, not a fan! The BoomBox nav system, prompts, screen info and features compared to Maps, Google, Garmin etc is lacking.

One critical problems keeps it from perfect.

If HarleyDavidson crashes, closes, phone is rebooted, or if anything in anyway causes you to have to close and reopen HarleyDavidson. The ride will not continue where you are. It forces you to navigate back to the start of the ride.

This is a critical failure knowing how glitchy phones and apps can be.

My Garmin GPS, if I load a ride and something happens where the GPS turns off etc. the ride will always continue where I left off or I am currently at.

I used HarleyDavidson yesterday simultaneously with my GPS. We stopped for lunch and when we came outside. The Harley app kept saying (no GPS signal) even through my phone had GPS and the other map apps worked. It forced me again to restart the Harley App and as it’s done previously, it was forcing me to go backwards 80 miles into my ride rather than just continuing the ride I already was involved in.

If that one issue is fixed, this would be a 5 star app. But this will leave you stranded if you have a long planned ride and the phone or app closes.

Please fix this one issue. Till then I have to keep using my garmin GPS.

So close but so far.

Hot garbage

HarleyDavidson used to have potential, I’ve had it for about a year, but now it runs super slow and uses quite a bit of data. It WAS good for tracking your daily, weekly, and monthly mileage for your riding club or personal knowledge, but for whatever reason this was taken off HarleyDavidson . This was nice because you did not need to log into HarleyDavidson for HarleyDavidson to track this information. HarleyDavidson also used to have GPS ability to find your bike, but that is also no longer available.

It constantly auto logged you off HarleyDavidson , so now if someone moves your bike you won’t get a notification till you log back into HarleyDavidson , so that part of HarleyDavidson is also garbage.

If you are just using HarleyDavidson to do the monthly challenges then you may like HarleyDavidson, but it still slow to start up and uses quite a bit of data and slows down your preferred method of GPS. So you may miss turns

Basically find a dealer is only useful option

Absolutely horrendous recommended rides.. recommended me rides in Pikeville, KY and
I live in BristolTN/VA and I’m like 15mins or a couple miles away from “the dragon” which is possibly the most well known ride this side of the Mississippi..

First time I had the HD app it recommended local rides and then one day I opened HarleyDavidson trying to plan a ride and it showed nothing close.. even though previously it showed a variety of rides so I removed the HD app and used a different service.. so after waiting some months I figured it would’ve been recalibrated or had the bugs worked out. Nope. Same ole song and dance. Recommending rides near 100miles away from me. Please fix this, I would love to have a reliable ride guide

App crashing after update

I have a Nighster special and I was using HarleyDavidson for the GPS because apparently you can’t use Google maps, you can only use the really horribly bad Harley Davidson maps that freezes on the nightster while I’m using it. HarleyDavidson also started crashing right after I open it. This after the last 2 updates. HarleyDavidson is really just to see whats going on at dealerships. Its pointless now to even have a GPS feature on my bike if I have to depend on an app that hardly ever works. If you’re looking for your next bike night, HarleyDavidson is for you! If you want actual GPS that works then use your phone with a mount. Just give me the functionality to use Google Maps. Why torture me with Harley Davidson branded maps? 😑

This can be sooooo much better

It’s nice to have something that records a ride, but this thing is such a drain in the battery that even when plugged into a speed charger, it is still a negative drain. This just unacceptable, can’t afford to loose a phone for the sake of record keeping.

Additionally, the phone must be left on for HarleyDavidson to work, of the screen is turned off, HarleyDavidson stops recording, how dumb is this? Really, H-D can build a bike that can last for years but can’t build a simple recoding app that doesn’t drain a battery to death?

Use another app to record rides, I’m not using this anymore, it’s just a haphazard way for H-D to track me.

Frustrated

I thought I would take advantage of the free membership with the purchase of my new bike. I do like the fact I can track my rides with HarleyDavidson . It has been very nice as have gone some places and just made some turns that I would like to repeat.

The issue I’ve had is HarleyDavidson keeps telling me that the bike has low voltage. Took bike into dealer to have charging system looked at. Turns out it is fine, but still get low voltage warnings even after 200 mile ride. Dealer called Harley to find out what the issue could be. After several hours of trouble shooting still no idea what is causing the problem showing low voltage. In fact battery was showing very good voltage. Harley’s response is they don’t know what the parameters are to trigger the warning. It would be nice to be notified of a problem if there was a problem but repeated warnings for no problem is irritating. The fact no one seems to have an answer is even more frustrating

Community Missing

One thing I noticed after making a couple trial runs with HarleyDavidson. First thing is it is a little clunky in use. I’m hitting way to many icons to get back to the scene I wanted to be. This could be me still learning the nuisance of HarleyDavidson , I feel it could be more user friendly.

Secondly is the ability to share routes with others. That’s where my title for this review comes from. We all know Harley-Davidson is a culture and a community, being able to share our routes with others on HarleyDavidson would be huge improvement.

As an example, I used the route record tool to record a trip along the backroads of Florida. I have a buddy who can’t always ride when I ride, so it would be nice to be able to text, email, etc the route to him and he be able to download that into his phone to be used through HarleyDavidson.

Great start but needs improvements. I will probably end up using this as a ride planner to find out of state dealers when I do my long out of state runs, then add those locations to the other Route Planning/Navigation App I currently use.

Route design

I got HarleyDavidson because I liked the idea of making my own route. Unfortunately the gps directions won’t redirect in case of a detour or road closure. I thought that if I found my way back to the planned route after the detour it would pick up where it left off but it kept trying to make me do a u-turn and go through the closure even after I was on the planned route. Definitely needs some updating. And if you happen to ride past your finish point while still on the route like if the start and finish are in the same location, then guess what. You just completed the route. No more directions.

This is the best Harley can do?

It’s a usable app, but it lacks all the controls that allow you to customize HarleyDavidson . No speed limits. No current speed. HarleyDavidson was developed by HERE, former Navteq. I understand, they are not a software debelémoste company. But still. They should be able to do a much better job than this. One feature I really like is the ability to skip a waypoint with a simple push of a button. I’m using it on a small iPhone SE 2020. In a vertical position, the “car” is hidden behind a street name if it takes 2 lines. Everything else is very small on the screen. There are a couple of things that go for it - it’s free and it can import GPX files.

New update

Not a big fan of the update it doesn’t track my mileage accuracy when you go down the road that has not been updated on their map. It doesn’t follow your tracking correctly. It just does a straight line from eight to B. I actually been losing mileage with this new update. Also, you can’t check in when you’re writing through on a ride, you have to exit the ride save it. Check in and start a whole new ride defeats the purpose of trying to track a ride on Saturday. I had to stop three times to check in at three different dealerships and start them all over again. Please fix that.

App needs more work

HarleyDavidson ( maps )is difficult to connect to the Bike. GPS Should auto link like the MP3 and phone features. My SENA works extremely well, but the maps are frustrating, I have to use my phone maps and it drains the phone battery. Please enable car play for future releases or updates. If not don't bother updating HarleyDavidson . I do not use the other features in HarleyDavidson . This bike is awesome, i love it and look forward to riding it every time. If HarleyDavidson would work like its supposed to. I would call this the Perfect Bike. Im not a rookie, been riding for 40 years this is now my 12th bike. Sport, cruisers, touring and now this awesome Pan America….

Problems with audio and detours

I’ve been experimenting with HarleyDavidson . I use navigation on my phone and listen to podcasts on my phone simultaneously. Using google maps and Overcast, not a problem. With the Harley app, I noticed two problems. 1) When the navigation voice came on, Overcast paused. But when the navigation voice was over, Overcast remained paused. It should have restarted playing. 2) Purposely deviating from the route due to construction caused HarleyDavidson to give up and close. Or it coincidentally crashed. I want to be able to use HarleyDavidson because of the ability to plan a ride and set waypoints but these two issues make that not practical for me.

It’s ok

I’ve struggled a lot with HarleyDavidson and the navigation. I guess there’s a lot of learning curve with HarleyDavidson. Hopefully with more use it’ll become easier but I’ve had it for a couple years and I think I’ve only used it twice. I have a new bike so let’s see what adventures HarleyDavidson can take me on starting in 2024. I really hope they fixed the… if you miss a turn when using navigation it routes you all the way back to the beginning… because that’s why I stopped using HarleyDavidson a couple years ago.

Terrible

Spend a hour plotting my route and saving it, No problem. Problems started when I started the ride. HarleyDavidson kept trying to reroute me to a alternate route. I could not get it to stop telling to make left turns and uturns. I rode 411 miles on the monthly challenge and was only credited for 50 miles. Imagine having that make a uturn voice in your head for 400 miles.
Terrible app you guys have to do better than this.
HarleyDavidson crashes frequently and does not remember your account info. ...and have the nerve to lock me out for 10 minutes if I forget my password. Grrr Terrible!!!
If I could give HarleyDavidson less than 1 star I would.

Good could be better

HarleyDavidson is amazing in its current state but I think there are a few things that could be done to make it even better. I’d like for HarleyDavidson to auto record rides when connected to your bikes, and have GPS, I tested it out the other day and if your recording even in a car it’ll continue to calculate miles. It was only two but I just wanted to see if my suspicion was true. Maybe also adding the ability to create your own challenges would be awesome

H-D fan

I’ve had 7 H-D motorcycles over the last 8 years - Dyna, Heritage, VRod, 2018 Road King, 2018 Fat Boy, 2019 Heritage, and the current 2019 Fat Boy.
I liked everyone and changed only because each one rides differently and I really enjoy those differences.
The Heritages were the best riding of them all. The VRod was incredibly powerful.
My current Fat Boy rides somewhere between the Heritages and the VROD. Changing the handle bars has made it much more maneuverable and fun to ride.
When I change bikes again, it will be another H-D.

Auto track mileage?

I Wish there was a way HarleyDavidson automatically tracked mileage as soon as the bike was recognized via Bluetooth or connected. I always forget to stop and start. I made the assumption that by letting HarleyDavidson use my location all the time it would track automatically. I drove 2100 miles to Sturgis SD and didn’t clock a one. And never thought about it until it was too late. Guess I should have read the directions better. My bad. Did it again yesterday. Half way through a ride I remembered. Other then that pretty cool app. I like it

Yuba City Harley Davidson

I went to Yuba City Harley Davidson today hoping to buy a LiveWire electric motorcycle. After speaking with Greg in sales, the assistant manager Dallas, and the finance guy Andy, I am so happy I went to Yuba City. I change my mind on the electric motorcycle for multiple reasons honestly I had some reservations. But I rode home and can American Harley Davidson 1250. They gave me an amazing deal on my trade-in, they also gave me an incredible deal on the price of the motorcycle.I think Greg is the reason why I change my mind and wanted to give them my business. Hats off to the whole team they did a fantastic job. JP

Great app

Really like the way HarleyDavidson works with Harley ride planner and going back-and-forth and being able to email/ message routes to different people. Like that my HOG card is displayed so I don’t have to carry it in my wallet.
It would be nice to be able to view the routes with better detail. Like when you go into your saved routes being able to tap a route and have it expand and check it out in detail with streets names.
The ride challenges are fun but there’s Gotta be a better way to verifies these peoples mileage and check ins. And you shouldn’t be able to use other brands of bikes to collect the mileage.
