Best “to-do” app I have come across so far

This might be my first or second review I’ve ever written. I’ve been using Planny for about 6 months now and I really like it. I think I’ve tried every productivity app in Planny3 Store and Planny has a nice balance in that it’s not too simple nor too complex. I haven’t had any issues with crashes or bugs. I love that is has a widget. I upgraded to pro so I could use it on my iPad and phone. Planny3 itself is beautifully designed. I love the color choices. I do have a couple requests: maybe make it easier to organize todos in order of priority? Also have an “in progress” function so you don’t feel like a complete failure the next day when Planny3 guilts you for not getting anything done.

Side note: I had a question and emailed the developer, he got back to me right away and seems like a really nice guy.

Wonderful design, buggy performance (especially with Apple Watch)

As a longtime user of Things 3, I’ve found a lot to like in Planny. It’s pleasing to use. The gamification makes productivity a bit more compelling. And the day-planning assistant makes me actually look forward to putting together the day’s to-do list.

Sometimes, though, Planny3 behaves in troubling ways. The Apple Watch app only sporadically shows the items in “Today,” even though the complication accurately indicates how many items there should be. The iPhone app sometimes freezes up while trying to scroll, and needs to be force quit. I have faith that the developer, who seems both committed, responsive, and prolific, will work to address these issues — but currently this awesome experience comes with a few bugs.

I never write reviews

My whole life I’ve used a paper planner. And I freaking love my planner so it’s been a super finicky transition that originally started with my Apple Watch purchase. I love love love the idea of seeing what I need to do with work/school/etc quickly on the watch face. So I decided to look for an app that would be able to replace my very high expectations; mainly

1)sync between watch, iPhone, ipad, Mac
2) organized, clean note taking with project assignment
3)not a million freaking dollars
4)pretty, but not frilly.
5) compatible (in a way) with calendar events (importing them seamlessly so I can see everything side by side)
6) good watch interface but not too cluttered.

I literally started on the top productivity apps and none before “Planny” even compared. OmniFocus came close, but planny did it better and about $100 cheaper. I promise. And I’m usually the sort of person that will choose something for name brand lolllll

Also to the developer- you obviously care. Keep doing you man. I always check the one star reviews first and I immediately noticed that you responded to every single one. It’s why I straight up purchased Planny3 before trying it, and I don’t regret it!!! Rock on dude

Crashes sometimes

I like the layout and the swipe controls. However, Planny3 crashes occasionally when completing a task. A few other small bugs include issues with windows. Sometimes they won't resize correctly, or they cannot be closed.

Final nitpick, I really wish that Planny would fully integrate with Reminders, so that other apps compatible only with Reminders can stay in sync.

Underrated (Literally)

I seriously don’t know how millions of people aren’t using Planny3. I have always struggled to check off everything on my to-do list, and Planny3 actually motivates me to work. I also have to appreciate the overall aesthetics and design of Planny3 ; very clean and organized. When I was setting things up, I thought Planny3 was just another Apple app you could download because all the icons are so similar to Apple’s. Overall, this is my favorite to-do list app I’ve come across. I love when app creators actually put out a clean, organized app. It shows how much thought they put into it.

Great organizing app

I have a problem focusing and couldn’t find an app that just let me create easy lists for each day. This one does jus that. You can easily see the tasks you have each day and break them out to sub tasks which I love. I used to have lists all over my house. Now I have it all in my phone and can add easily. It has a great UI and is easy to figure out which, for me has been difficult but it isn’t a problem with Planny3. I purchased the year right away because I knew I’d actually use this one. Great app!

5 stars for what it probably will be

I’m someone who’s more-than-moderately attention deficit and super anxious about. Planny3 is scratching the itch that Things 3 and Sorted 3 just barely missed. I can have a solid planner with my tasks plus events that I can manipulate ON the timeline (THINGS) and really solid list functionality with lots of day AND deadline options (SORTED).

And the colors are just a gigantic handful of cherries on top.

Couple things, though:

1. Select multiple tasks at once to set deadlines, move, delete, etc. Things 3 and Sorted 3 do these very well

2. Set deadline for just a date and no exact time. Not everything needs an exact time and it can be a minor road block in my attention deficit workflow.

3. Minor customization options in Upcoming and not-so-dark dark mode for OLED smearing

This has what I’ve been missing so far. I’m sure it’s going to continue to improve on top of a solid base.

Beautiful UI Design & Functionality

One of the best to-do list apps I’ve ever had a chance to experience. This will absolutely be the one app I’ll be using from now on for all my to-do list needs. The UI is gorgeous with perfect gradients. Planny3 allows you to set reminders for today, upcoming days, and make to-do list for projects that need to be done.

My only suggestion: There’s no settings page & no way I can purchase in-app add ons unless I do it through Planny3 Store. Also, no way of changing the time from 24 hour clock to 12 hour clock for reminders!

Good but buggy

I am putting together a list of all of the bugs I have encountered so far with Planny3 so I can contact the developer. I have sent a support request for the first things I found so I will see how he responds.
I like the concept behind Planny3 . Here is what is wrong though:

1. The iOS interface sometimes opens with elements all over the place and I need to force quit Planny3 to fix.
2. The back button from the notes field is often unresponsive and I must force quit.
3. The “Routines” list has several blank boxes instead of the routine names.
4. The Mac app has a habit of ignoring time settings.
5. There is no explanation anywhere I can find as to how you are supposed to set repeats on a task. I can get to the window where repeats are set but I don’t know what I am supposed to do.

I will increase my star rating if the developer responds and these issues get resolved.

not bad but needs improvement

UI is good looking. Sometimes a little bit buggy. The calendar view fails sometimes. The logic behind routine need to be clarified. When share a web or image from other app, it fails almost every time.

Promises Untrue

I had great hope for Planny3 after losing my long used Wunderlist to MS purchase. I paid for the premium Planny and cannot get Planny3 to sync between Apple devices. I followed all the steps on the developers website to no avail. I contacted him via his website 2 different times and he has not responded. While the layout and function of Planny3 on one device meets my needs it does not work for most people if it will not sync and it is certainly not a smart app. As a final resort I am posting here to see if this will get his attention. I will happily amend this review if he will support his app.

Disappointing

Layout is nice, unfortunately doesn’t work as expected, customization is limited, lists created and daily tasks... for some reason have preset rules so things don’t show up where you want them, practically, it is my planner but based on what someone one else think my day should go, not based on what I think should happen, most important thing in tasks and planner apps is ability to customize most of the ways data can be retrieved and presented, otherwise it will just be nice looking app

Could be great but problems

It’s got great colors for the main todo page but I have no idea how to cross off my tasks. It even has circles to show the todo, but for some reason the dev forgot to let you just touch it to go to the done list. And so, I’m still looking for a simple beautiful todo list.

To the dev: Make it so that you can just touch the circles and they go to the done list. Also while the main 2 color blended page is beautiful, make other blended pages so that you can change up if you want.

By

Just Enough Power

I've tried all of the todo apps. Some of them are so powerful they are overpowering. Others are so simple their applicability is limited. Planny finds its place in the middle, a todo app that marries simplicity in design with just enough advanced features to make it just right.

Awesome!

I’m so excited about finding Planny3! For the last two days I have downloaded at least 15 apps, looking for one that has projects, tasks, images and calendar. It was a total waste of time and money and I was ready to give up when I found Planny. It does everything and does it well! Thank you!!!

If you are serious about your information, do not use this app

I trusted Planny3 and put in a ton of lists and information, deadlines, and to do lists. All were erased. Gone just like that. I re-purchased the subscription and everything is still gone. I relied so much on Planny3. Now I’m having to try and remember everything I planned or noted. I emailed them about my situation and was ignored. Please do not
use Planny3 if you care about the work you save in it. You will probably lose it all too one day.

Best app ever

Best app ever but still needs more features like a pomodoro timer and a calendar and maybe even mail. If those features were put into Planny3 i wouldn’t need any other apps so i give Planny3 five stars for being amazing and think about implementing these features :)

Closes on start up. Not worth the subscription

Every single time I open Planny it self closes multiple times. This defeats me and I no longer feel the need to use Planny3. I also thought Planny3 was a once and done buy but now there are multiple versions and my version is making me pay every 3 months. Nice design but bad follow through. On to the next app.

By

One more thing

I’m really excited to use Planny3 as I have been struggling with procrastination. It is really cool so far but the only thing I would add is an option to set a reminder at a certain time during the day. I really love Planny3 so far 😀

Not syncing with Apple Watch

Overall I like the concept of Planny3 . It does need some tweaks and features added on to make it a top contender amongst the tasks apps. I’m keeping it on my phone for now to see where it goes. I have some suggestions if the developer is open to it.

Not for busy people who have to reprioritize constantly

First, it’s a clumsy, buggy interface. Second, I work a lot and often on call. I must reprioritize what I think or must accomplish constantly. I’d do better with Bear. This system is very forced, rigid and frustrating. If you have the dullest of lives, this is great. If you have a job and home responsibilities that are complex, look elsewhere!

By

Sad

Not intuitive, virtually no instructions.
Syncs with calendar, but events aren’t visible on the calendar view- you have to click on each day to know if there’s an existing calendar event there.
Planny3 lags, which I’ve personally never had happen with an iOS app. It crashed on the first routine I made. Oh but I can change the colors, awesome. It’s more complicated than the existing reminders app, but less user friendly and less useful.

Hate the update

I’m not a fan of the update. Just because I have routines created for certain days of the week doesn’t mean I do them every week on those days. Now instead of adding them if I want to get them done, I have to go through and delete a mess of stuff daily. It’s annoying.
