Needs a Full Function Trial

This has everything I am looking for and want to replace Noteplan and Craft with an encrypted and secure app.
However, there are many reviews that note some glitches. I would like to TRY the FULL app functionality before dropping over $100 !!! With that price tag, you would think that there would be a free trial of the pro version, or at the very least, an option to pay month-to-month.
I tried the Live Demo but it is very glitchy and I don't know that is bc it is a demo or if that is how StandardNotes will be if I purchase a pro plan.
If StandardNotes could do everything I wanted, it would be well worth it since I would be replacing 2 other pro version apps. But I absolutely refuse to spend that kind of money without being able to try out its full functionality first. NotesNook is getting my business now. It isn't perfect, but I know what I am getting.

This app will ruin you month and maybe your year

So I have an experimental Linux system. Had to reinstall it 2 months ago and couldn’t get back into my notes. Tried literally for hours. They do not have you verify your e-mail so if you typed that wrong you outta luck. So I blamed it on this. If what I lost could be quantified in hours I’d say at least 150. So I download this and use it again. This time making very careful punches on my keyboard. Signed in and before I did another thing signed out. Then a downloaded a copy to my iPad and signed in and kept everything in sync. Well gotta great deal on an ssd drive and have just installed it. My backups in the cloud and that key is in standard notes. After maybe a dozen attempts to sign in typing the same thing every time to my disbelief it logged me in on Ubuntu. Pick up my iPad and after dozens of attempts I still cannot get in on the iPad. They will tell you it’s entry error. Nope not a chance not that many times in a row. No chance. I’m as meticulous as an assassin. These guys got a bug and will mislead their users who in turn are injured their their product. Glad I didn’t put my Swiss banks accounts on this garbage. In moving everything off of and and uninstalling as soon as I’m done with the this comment. I can only imaging what has been lost by other users. Ima tell everyone I know simply out of care and concern for other.

Seems like a pretty cool app.

It seems like a pretty cool app, but here’s my problem. Recently I decided that every app that hijacked me and made me touch my screen and answer a question before it allowed me to use StandardNotes that I installed to be able to use when I wanted to use it would get a revie from me, But a negative one. This has required me to use more of my time for something that seems trivial, but if everybody followed suit and did the same, how quickly would some of our favorite apps stop doing the things that everybody hates, another pop-up demanding your time. Content creators please listen the old adage “no news is good news“ maybe something you might want to consider. For those that may have constructive criticism and some good ideas to share may also be able to click on the “contact us” link in StandardNotes . And the ones that have neither the time nor the intelligence to locate such a link, are you really wanting their feedback unfiltered and made public? I do not create apps on this platform, so maybe it’s actually StandardNotes Store that forces its way into StandardNotes and demands a rating. If that were the case then my apologies again to the creators of StandardNotes but my point remains valid, if enough people started leaving one star reviews because of the invasive polling methods then possibly even Apple would conclude that that method is not only unappreciated but ineffective and would stop forcing it down our throat’s.

Paid User Got Screwed

I’ve been a paid Premium user for 5 years. Most of my notes were formatted with “Super”.
As soon as my subscription ended - after 5 years mind you- all my notes became a mess of html codes with the needed data buried somewhere in between.
Unless I pay again I can’t use my notes anymore.
Or I have to painstakingly go through each of them and fish out the data I need and paste into a new plain text note. We’re talking about many thousands of lines though.

Standard Notes was fabulous and virtually all my passwords and other sensitive data is with SN.
Now I regret that because of the stupid formatting thing.
With Proton Mail buying SN I was hoping to see some improvements, including a way to revert Super-formatted notes to gracefully go to Plain Text. So far this hasn’t happened.

Secondarily, the main reason for SN really is the end to end encryption, and cross platform syncing.

Beyond that, it’s actually a bit of a mess. Numerous formatting options that are pretty basic and often superfluous (why have 5 Markdown options?)

There is no easy way to send myself or third parties notes to their email addresses or Telegram, etc.

Disappointing how a paid long term user now has to look for alternatives.

Good and Bad, mostly good

The Good: I love that my notes sync across devices. That’s really handy. It’s not on Google Docs. If my google account gets compromised — this happened to my dear Dad — I’ll still have these notes. The notes are encrypted. It’s fairly easy to use on any device. Tags instead of folders: good. And best of all, excellent customer service. Special shout out to Effie. She’s the reason I decided to pay for premium instead of sticking with the free version. The Bad: as with protonmail, I find StandardNotes to be secure but clunky. Sometimes the rich text notes don’t even load (although if they don’t load on one device, they usually load on the other). So always back up. It wouldn’t hurt to copy your most precious notes to a native editor on your computer like TextEdit or Notepad. Simply moving from your search results back to all notes is not always intuitive or fast. You cannot search within a note. You choose a color theme and it doesn’t always stick. The bad points are minor inconveniences, and are outweighed by the good. I plan to stick with StandardNotes while the good developers work out the kinks.

Almost perfect

This is a really great app. Very simple and straight forward. The only reason I am giving 4/5 stars is because there is no way to toggle dark mode on/off. I understand that extra themes come with the premium subscription, however not everyone can afford to keep up with a monthly subscription or an upfront payment of $50 or $150 (which is kind of an outrageous amount to pay if you just want the dark theme). If the delevopers read these reviews, I would just ask that a simple toggle be added to switch between light and dark mode... You don't even have to take one of your premium themes and add it to the free mode, I am just asking that in addition to your blue and red theme there be a toggle to switch the background color from white to black (the same amoled black you have in your focus theme). Please please please, StandardNotes will be absolutely PERFECT if you would be so generous as to add such a toggle to the free version of StandardNotes . Or at the very least make this option an in app purchase of say $5 or $10. I would be willing to pay for this feature, and I'm sure others would too.

Absolutely great but

I really wish I could use this at work and for school. I love everything about StandardNotes except not having pictures or scans is a deal killer. Sometimes a picture or scan can skip 5 minutes of typing.

I understand pictures mean more data, which means more severs, which also means higher prices or the hated subscription model. So I get it! Maybe be an extension for photos in the future?!?!

Heard the developer on a privacy and security podcast. Huge smile on my face when he said “access to user data is a liability”. Instant paid customer even though I can’t use it the majority of the time I want to. Just wanted to support a developer with that mindset.

Best notes app but still missing some things

Hello,

This is by far the greatest secure notes app on StandardNotes Store. And I have tried A LOT of notes apps. The reason why it is 4 stars is because it is missing only two things that bug me. First, include the support for hyperlinks. I would like to just be able to open the note and tap the link to open it, instead of having to copy and paste the link into a browser. Second, please add the support for photos. Some of my notes have photos in them, but when I copied them over to StandardNotes , the photos disappeared.

That’s it! If you add these two things, it will be an easy 5 stars from me!

Absolutely incredible app

I've been looking for this exact app for several years. It does everything simply, quick and perfectly. Plain text, synchronized immediately and flawlessly between disparate devices, all the while encrypted. Perfect, my friend. Bravo.

Update: Still awesome. If you want to write info without people spying on you, get StandardNotes. If you want to keep track of passwords etc., get StandardNotes. If you are a doctor, lawyer, priest etc. and people trust you with their info yet you need access to the info easily, get StandardNotes.

Privacy Meets Features

It took all of two days for Standard Notes to land on my Home Screen. I've tried nearly all of the note taking apps out there, and security and privacy are their Achilles Heal. The end-to-end encryption of Standard Notes gives me the piece of mind required for it to truly become my second brain. Better still, they have straightforward instructions for hosting the server, providing an even more private experience. The apps are fast, and provide the right amount of features. Finally, if you're into markdown, their Smart Note note type changes the game!

Closest Thing to a Perfect App

I’ve been using Standard Notes since their inception and it’s one of my most used apps to this day. The UI is clean and intuitive, there are a plethora of useful features, and the security is truly rock solid. The devs clearly care deeply about their work and their mission statement, which is clear when you look at not only the work they’ve done, but the quality and rate that they continue to improve it as well. Easiest 5-Star rating I’ve given. Support the team if you have the means and buy their professional tier—they deserve it and it’s well worth the money.

Simple and Secure

I don't usually review apps. In fact, this is my first time ever leaving a review without being prompted to. I just think this is such a great app, and I want everyone to know how awesome it is.
It's the best free encrypted note taking app I've found. It's clean, simple, and -most importantly- secure. Definitely a 5/5 star app, ESPECIALLY considering that it's completely free to use, aside from additional themes and editors that are available to subscribed users. I'm very greatful to the creators of Standard Notes for giving me a free, safe place to write things down. If you're looking for a simple encrypted app to store important information, ideas, thoughts, etc., then this is StandardNotes for you.

Never thought I’d review a notepad app!

You would think something simple as a notepad application would be hard to mess up but then again i do have an apple product. The notepad that comes with my phone is absolute garbage, constantly crashing, bugging out and black screening making me lose notes and yet was so basic in functions, and dont get me started on the fact every time i hit save in the notepad it sent me an email to a hidden inbox that had thousands of entries. Meanwhile StandardNotes has a fantastic layout with proper editing tools and customization, never crashed, never blank screened on me, just all around what I EXPECTED from the one that came with my phone, but more! I only use the standard free plan because i dont have much use for the plus features but the price isnt bad and tools would probably be great for someone who needs it. All in all I highly recommend this notepad app!

Exactly what I was looking for

I wanted a simple app that allows me to store encrypted notes. I want to do journaling and I feel I can be a lot more open when I know that these notes can only be opened by myself. I love the biometric options for encrypting. I was delighted to see the warning that said “if you lose your password the data cannot be recovered”. That means there are no back doors. This is good stuff if you want to enjoy privacy and make notes / journal entries and never have to worry about the data being compromised. You can set extreme intervals for the authentication to require renewal. Get StandardNotes and write stuff with peace of mind!

Very functional app; easiest to use encrypted option

I've been using Standard Notes off and on for several years now. The nature of my current work got me using it full time for the past year. If you need encryption, this is the best of all the apps I've tried. The level of control is nice, plus there's always the option to self-host if you are really paranoid. If you've been using the free, plain-text version and are on the fence, buy a subscription at their Black Friday sale and you'll keep the very low price for good. Much more functionality than I'll ever use, but it's really nice to have many note types and for me, especially, to have good MarkDown support.

A simply private Note Taking App

Standard Notes is quite incredible when it comes to storing encrypted text. With very minimal setup required to make your account, Standard Notes allows you to store whatever text you need to jot down, in a simplistic interface that’s easy to recognize and natural to use. The simplistic interface allows you to focus on what you need to type on your document, without lingering about all the finer details. All notes written in Standard Notes are encrypted and synced across devices, so that you can pickup where you left off on your device. On top of all these amazing features, Standard Notes is private and open source, ensuring that you can trust in the privacy that Standard Notes so elegantly provides.

Five Plus Stars!

StandardNotes works as described: it’s useful, simple, solid, extensible/customizable, secure, user-friendly, clean looking, and fun. Think, perhaps, of the cleanness and exportability of Simplenote/Bear + web access + rock-solid stability + unimpeachable security. (Plus more.)

Also the developer is patient, friendly, and incredibly helpful. I had a non-app, non-workflow related problem related to registration/billing that developer helped me solve through a string of direct, prompt, friendly, and helpful emails over the course of a month.

Now more than ever are security and privacy important. Now more than ever are apps most useful when they are simple, extensible, and allow for transparent data export. And the pricing model is transparent, fair, reasonable, and seemingly sustainable. Now more than ever should we support apps like this.

Excellent Product - Works as Advertised - Thank you!

Been using Standard Notes for 4 months. Easy to Use. Sync is fast - make an update on desktop, go to mobile app, it is there. I like the ability to Nest Tags (i.e. for example: Quotes / Herman Bavinck) - This allows me to have all Quotes under one Tag Structure. Whether I'm writing plain text or enhanced, things are working as designed. I like the option also to create a note in spreadsheet format. Standard Notes also offers ability to be your Authenticator App. If you want easy access to your Authenticator App codes, just install Standard Note on all your devices. Make sure to turn on 2FA as well. Stanard Notes can be setup to backup to the local device computer (either in unencrypted or encrypted - you choose). Excellent Product - Works as Advertised. Thank you!

Encrypting App

So I down loaded StandardNotes set it up and daily I’m committing data to it at this rate I must check out each item before I move it the two most important bits of data has been my Veterans medical file and my credit info app and my Financial file and my civilian medical file along with my investment files. I handed my phone to my youngest computer Genius to let him see if he could crack the password to see if he could access the data, NOT! After two hours he handed it back!

I was an engineer that worked for TXDOT and then an ENGINEER for SWBELL developing cell phones and an Engineer for two media broadcasting companies keeping broadcast operations up and running as an Engineer with a first class FCC license with a Microwave endorsement. I taught him how to build computers and repair as needed so he went on to coding and works for the hospital district here in Houston. StandardNotes is great and solid!

Almost perfect...

Literally all I want is the option to create folders and move my notes into them. And folders inside other folders too, ad infinitum.

I like having folders, especially as I write my own stories. It’s useful to have a folder for each story, and a folder for stories themselves. Otherwise I have 20 different notes titled “Chapter 1” for 20 different stories. And even with tags it’s confusing. Not to mention extremely messy looking.

If StandardNotes had folders then it would be perfection.

Seems like a great app but website is confusing during account creation. Ended up by losing password. Non-sensical instructions from support wrt to a reset so asked for my money back - no response. That, in my books, is a scam. Fortunately no data lost.
