The New App Update is Horrible

The new version 3.0.0 software update is a huge disappointment. The new user interface is horrible. The old interface had large animations on Meross which were well done. The new update made all of the widgets much smaller and photos that you add are now too small to even see. Part of the reason that I always liked the this app product line is Meross was well done and the old user interface was very easy to see and use. If the new version 3.0 is the only version of Meross available, I will no longer recommend this app to other people. I restored my phone just to go back to the old user interface and turned off updates to Meross . But now, one of the 3 way dimmer switches that I have is not usable without updating Meross which will cause me to go to the new user interface that I don’t want. There should be a way to select if you want to use the old original UI or the new screens in version 3.0 that I would never select.I understand that the new UI design has smaller widgets or icons so more accessories can fit on the screen, but it just does not look or work as well as the old version of Meross prior to the latest update. The design is very poorly done.
Also the new screen for routines is poor as well. Overall the new app update is awful and a huge step backwards. I think that there will be a lot more negative feedback from other users.

Can’t even use the app anymore

I ordered a this app garage door opener and at first it worked out fine. The installation was a bit tricky and I would often have to re-run the installation set-up if I took too long, but once I got it hooked up it worked fine...for a while. Eventually the garage door opener started to not register on my app. I would click the button to open/close and it would be unresponsive, even though it worked earlier. that same day. This happened more often then not and became a sour experience. The latest problem, and the reason for the one star, is now Meross will no longer let me log in to my account. It logged me out initially for no reason at all (I used Meross fine the day before), and now I have changed the password 4 times, all of which are met with a “password was incorrect” screen. Stay away from Meross and products, they are a complete hassle to use in every way!

Not Ready For Prime Time

The this app products are very attractive with their price point and broad array of capabilities. I’ve personally put these products in my home and my vacation cabin. Unfortunately, the this app products are the most unreliable product in HomeKit. I continually experience “Not responding” at both locations. Meanwhile, all my other products are rock solid and reliable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to remove and re-add the products to force the issue. In addition, always a pleasure to show up at your vacation home to find all your devices have lost their configs and no longer believe they’re part of your home.

With the above in mind, I will steer clear of future this app products until I can be convinced their products are reliable in the HomeKit environment.

My year using this app

I’ve been using this smart plug for my Aquarium light, so at night they’ll be on the same schedule. The this app does a pretty good job most of the time at activating, but sometimes not. Randomly, the this app will turn off by itself and the tank will be pitch black when I get home. So my little guys are freaking out. The routines I set work, let’s say, 70% of the time. Most of the time I have to do it manually because it’ll just go right past the time and not activate my routine entirely. Overall, Meross is filled with so many bugs and issues that I could see how most people would want to throw this piece of junk after a few months of usage. I recommend something a bit more expensive, and not made with inferior materials or software.

It’s really frustrating to try to set up items without HomeKit, which I don’t use. I have had plugs and they generally work. I have a smart surge protector that just won’t connect. It took me literally hours in my last apartment to get it to connect and set up and having to reboot my router and all this crap. Now in my new apartment I am trying to set it up and to no avail. It won’t connect. I removed it to reinstall and now it won’t even discover it or show the wifi network to connect it. It is within feet of the router. It’s unacceptable really. Yes I could use it as a normal surge protector, but I want it for timers… so as of now it is useless to me if it won’t do that. I am not rebooting my network and the directions for iOS say to do these steps that don’t exist. There is no “reset network” option anywhere in my settings. Make your products reliable and less frustrating to use. There should be no reason I am having this much difficultly with a stupid surge protector.

I like the convenience of the programmable remote control switches but…

I like the this app programmable remote control switches but I don’t like Meross on the mobile phone. I have groups of lights that I would like to go on and off at certain times of day but I find it very confusing. It would be nice if I could set a group called Christmas lights and then tell those Devices to be a member of the same group where all of them follow the command to go on at Sunset and off at 11 PM and then turn on at 5 AM until sunrise. But I have to do all those with separate commands for each separate device. There must be a much simpler way to do this.

Not sure if it’s the bulbs or the app

Have had to set up the bulbs a couple times before and after upgrading my wifi. Not sure if they don’t like my 5G only network so I had to add them to my guest 2.4ghz network. The real issue lies in programming scenes for the bulbs. I have to go in the bulb settings and save a scene multiple times after editing for the bulbs to act accordingly. I would edit a scene for all bulbs to turn red at 20%, but they only save the 20% setting. Going in a second time I re-add the red color to the scene and then it finally works. Had to go and save each scene twice even though I did everything right. Setup should be more consistently accurate

Latest update created a big issue (Resolved)

Loved the older version of Meross as it always works perfectly. After the latest update. I lost all ability to control my app using a cellular connection to operate the opener remotely. Tech support says it’s a phone issue, Apple tech states that my permissions are set to allow cellular access. Works great when on my home WiFi network but losing the ability to open my garage remotely has me looking for an alternative option. Note this issue started immediately following the latest update.

this app reached out to me via email and we have resolved to the issue of remote access using cellular. It was not a cellular or permission issue but did require a hard reset of the device.
Now that Meross is working as it should allowing access from both WiFi and remotely via cellular connection I am giving Meross and update 4/5 stars.
The update does make it more difficult to open and close the garage door but only because the developer changed the size of the open/close button. It is way too small and more difficult to operate. If they would fix this issue, this would easily been a 5 star app update.

Customer service has been great. 5/5 there.
Let’s make that button a little bigger guys.

Good app/product; but no app/product is without fault

I have several plugs and the garage door opener, all setup with HomeKit, using the this app app for firmware updates only.

Despite what so many are complaining about, the setup was simple and straight forward if you followed the directions correctly.

The plugs have worked flawlessly so far, in multiple uses.

The garage door opener is great, but this is one where I started having an issue. For about the first 6 months it worked without issue. Then it started opening and closing respectively on its own, despite no automation to do any such thing, and it happens at random. This creates a grave security breach. I am still working with tech support on this issue, which have been responsive; so I will update later on this issue.

As for the this app app, it is very basic, but will get the job done. Have not noticed any problems that can be directly associated to Meross .

I agree with others, but especially for HomeKit users, we should not be required to register with this app to use Meross locally or update the firmware. You have no reason to want our information.

Good and Affordable HomeKit Switches

I found these HomeKit switches much more affordable than most of the other options out there. So far they are working well for me and I’m able to use them via Siri voice, the HomeKit app or the this app app. I do have a couple of small issues. On a couple of occasions I’ve noticed that one of my three lights in my “coming home after dark” automation has failed to turn on, but the other two switches worked fine. I also noticed that the indicator LED on the 3 way switches are a different shades of green and the slave switch is dumb, meaning you can’t switch the LED between power indicator and night light settings. They are small things and fairly insignificant, but I do notice them.

Meross is great. I got it to make a customized wake up light with my alarm due to poor natural lighting. PLEASE update it to where I can move scene selections around on the interface so they can be in different orders. Also add the feature of duplicating scenes or routines via edit button. This can be easily solved with pressure pressing or long pressing on a module.

Also adding a feature that does the wakeup light/sunrise light feature would be a great idea. Setting a time frame then having the lights slowly move from red, to orange, to a nice warm white color with increasing brightness overtime would be great.

MUCH LOVE! THIS PRODUCT IS AWESOME JUST NEEDS SOME FINE TUNING AND IT WILL BE EVERYWHERE.

I don’t have to Iron anymore!

When I bought the this app Smart Plug, 2 pack, I had Christmas lights on my mind.

Then I remembered, I was adding a drying closet to my Beach House. (Either a custom build closet or a Ready to plug-in cabinet that gently shakes the wrinkles out of your clothes as a fan dries them. They start about $3k)

Purchased the best quality, little oscillating fan, suspended repurposed wrought iron fence pieces from the ceiling over the folding Counter and everything paired easily with my Google Home. I can turn it on & off using voice with Google home or manage everything using Google Home App or my this app App on my Phone.

App could be better

I will give five star for the price and easy setup but took one star off for app. For routine schedule setup, it allow you to choose only when to turn on or off but not both. So to get around it, you have to set the time to turn on and then set up another automatic turn off schedule after so many hours. Most smart plug apps allows you to set up both on and off time not just one. Also I wish it has the option to schedule from sunset to dawn which other smart plug apps offers (e.g. KASA). Is there a way to apply the same routine for all 4smart plugs? I didn’t see the option so I set it up individually. While it is nice to set up different routines for different plugs but it would be nice to have the option to apply the same schedule to multiple plugs if I want to. If developers can improve Meross to accommodate this, I would say this is the best smart plugs you can get for the money you spend.

While no home automation company is perfect, there is a lot going well with this app and it’s customers. A steady flow of new products, regular updates and bug fixes. And making HomeKit/SmartThings/Alexa/Google Home accessories for only a little more than what most others charge for mediocre Alexa-only or Google Homely gadgets.

I like this app a lot and watch their releases closely. I do wish they would consider an option for us to be cloud-free entirely, much as Sonoff has done. There are many reasons to like the cloud services in urban areas. But in rural areas, you have to be accustomed to the possibility of days or weeks without DSL or cell tower internet services. Also without fresh groceries or electrical power. Or being snowed in or isolated by flooding. Or having an ice storm that pulls down power lines over an area of hundreds of square miles. Your power can go out for months. And you don’t have to be living in the backwoods for these to happen to you. At least 25% of Americans live in places that can turn decidedly uncivilized for days or weeks even months on rare occasions. We need resilient local automated systems.

It takes vision by company leaders but rural America is still a great market even now, just as it was for decades in the last century.

Hands down the best.

I’ve used Ama and this app as of this posting. I’ve had my Ama outdoor Wi-Fi smart plug for approximately 2 years now and it goes offline often, but it worked. When I was in the market for a new outdoor Wi-Fi smart plug, Ama was no longer available and so I went with the this app version. I’ve had my first this app for approximately 1 year and it is awesome. It is always reliable and never goes offline. I now have two installed in my backyard and I am currently replacing my Ama with my third this app. It’s definitely worth it in my opinion.

Had Many, Now Have One

I have had my home automated for many years. I used to have many apps and devices communicating through Alexa and SmartThings. I eventually selected this app as my one app and device supplier. It does everything I need it to do, and set up is a breeze. this app integrates well with both Alexa (specifically for voice commands) and SmartThings to give me seamless control over my plugs, switches, lights, temp sensors, and even my garage. I recommend this app to anyone wanting a one stop shop for home automation products to sync with Alexa or SmartThings.

Works well on it’s own

Meross itself and all the companies brand products I’ve purchased have always worked exactly as described in their item detail. The only issues I have had are due to iOS software update. The most recent update to iOS 15 has taken away my ability to control and adjust in the apple HomeKit app; however, I have been extremely impressed with its ability to constantly work using its own app regardless of any updates to Meross and product’s.

inexpensive, reliable, quality products that mesh well

Merros makes inexpensive, reliable, quality products making smart home customization a fun project. My home uses 75+ MERROS bulbs, wall switches and garage door opener. They’ve all been solid for > 1 year in service, no complaints. Merros devices easily incorporate with ALEXA, and/or the SmartThings app for additional features, if desired. I learned, the hard way, “linking the Merros app to the SmartThings app causes BOTH apps to share the same device lists”. Therefore only the (SmartThings) Skill should be enabled in Alexa. “IF” both Merros and SmartThings Skills are enabled “THEN” devices will duplicate, showing up twice your Alexa device list. Highly recommended Merros products!

Versatile and easy to setup and use

I have been using various circuit control plugs for over a year now and have found the this app system to be reliable as well as less expensive than some other systems. I started with a single plug and have gradually expanded my system to control both interior and exterior light circuits. Many are automatically controlled by time of day or daylight/dark times. Others are primarily controlled by voice commands via Alexa. Some have auto shutoffs after a certain amount of ON time. Many are grouped together to create time-of-day scenes.

So far I haven’t had any problems other than occasional reports from Alexa that a particular plug isn’t responding, which is usually fixed by simply asking Alexa to perform the task again.

Setup of each new plug is simple and quick by simply following the steps presented in the this app App.

My only unmet needs are for a wider selection of dimmable plugs and the ability to individually address each outlet on the multi-outlet devices via Alexa voice commands - which can be individually controlled on Meross and be setup through the use of Scenes.

And it wasn’t. ) the previous was my original review. I apologize that my installed garage door was the cause for the incorrect alerts. At the time I had installed the equipment it was in the blazing hot desert summer of (120+ degree day)weather. When the weather changed to cold winter (35 degree nights), the door had become misaligned in the jamb & tracks therefore causing the sensors to be misaligned. After receiving the suggestions from tech support to check the sensor alignment, I can defy change my review to 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Thank you this app !🫡

Device Unresponsive

I have two outdoor plugs. Meross always says the devices are unresponsive. The Alexa app says the same. IFTTT turns the lights on and off. Pointless though if I need to turn lights on or off manually, or check the status if I am away. The signal is fine in both locations. The lack of support on the website tells me they don’t care. Will not buy in the future and I will be replacing these at some point if nothing is fixed.

Frustrating

It takes a while for Meross to register my garage door opener, and will fail if I try to open/close before it is “ready.” I also have notifications setup to tell me when door is open or closed, and when it is open longer than 15 minutes. This is great; however, when I click the notification to close the door, it defaults to “door closed” unless I wait... and wait... and wait...

This is crazy frustrating, and needs to be fixed. I’d recommend going with a MyQ by Chamberlain if you want a smart garage door.

Garage door app usage

Was working great till about a week ago. Now I am not getting any notifications. I’ve tried everything. Starting to think it’s not a user error but more so an app update error. I use Meross since I tend to leave my door open a lot after I leave. The warning is a great feature, when it works. Done trying to fix. Waiting for the next update.

If you’re looking for a wide range of features, Meross/product is probably not for you. However, if all you care about is having smart outlets with the ability to turn off and on with your smart phone or Alexa/Google Home, it’s a nice little app. One thing the developers should address is the fact that you can change the photos and name of the individual outlets, however you can only change the name of individual plugs on the power strips yet can’t change photo. It would be nice to be able to add photos to the individual plugs on your surge protectors/power strips.

Stop the updates ... please!

I’ve had Meross (and a few associated devices) for about two months. They’ve updated Meross 2x during this period. Each time they’ve updated Meross , I’ve had to re-sync the devices to get everything working again

They think you’re adding features and/or improving the product, but they’re inconveniencing their customers in the process. this app: get to a version that works the way you want it to, and leave it alone already!

Would love apple watch app

Overall I've had a good experience with the all and products, I had to remove and re-add my garage door opener once because it wouldn't connect to it anymore. It worked great after removing and aging it again. I would love to be able to use it with my watch in the future.

Love these plugs

I have them in my bedroom and in my living room the setup is super easy, you just need to know your WiFi name and password. Resetting is just as easy you just hold the side button for about 5 seconds.

The only thing I wish is that they had an app for my Apple Watch!!! 😁 Maybe the developers could get on that. Other than that preference it works flawlessly!!

Excellent app. I manage my light switches and garage door opener through Meross and through Alexa. My only wish is that they add functionality for the Apple Watch, so that I can open my garage using my watch as I pull into my neighborhood.

Meross and products work great! Easily installed. I did it all myself. I put in 3 of the 3 way switches in about 20 mins, downloaded Meross , followed the directions and everything works as it should. Now I can turn the lights off my children only know how to turn on for some reason! I just updated my app and did not have to sync any of them again. They worked instantly!

Does the job well

Using it to control their waterproof outdoor switch. This seems well designed, even set to connect to outdoor receptacle on a pigtail so cover can be closed. It also features two individually switchable plugs. I had a question about the Alexa integration. Contacted Grace in Support who got back to me immediately and answered my question and forwarded a suggestion to the developers for me.

Simple and Effective

I’ve installed this outdoor outlet on my pool pump and so far it’s been flawless. Initial configuration was simple and Alexa integration was a snap. And yes, it really is waterproof as the first night it had no issues during a heavy downpour. I’ve tested routines and they work well. My biggest concern was whether or not the WiFi would reach through the house and 30ft to the actual outlet. Once again, no issues. So far I have no complaints! It works great.

Simple for tech minded

First plug was SUPER simple. Then the second one gave me issues. Had to reboot my router to have it recognize, which ended up being a faulty plug. I had bought a 4 pack so I tried the 2 others and they worked fine. It’s super unfortunate that 1 out of my 4 were bad though. Still giving 5 stars for simplicity and how Meross basically tells you each step in how to set up. My toddler could set this up.

This app has to be reinstalled over and over to stay working. Plus individual connections to the plugs keep disappearing and have to be re-installed using a lot of time. Every new version of the app has a worse interface than the last. It seems like Meross is in a race to the bottom.
