Digital Photo Frame Slideshow Reviews

I was disappointed because this is the closest thing I’ve found to do what I want- shuffle play photos and videos in a single Photos album. My simple digital frame can do it, but my Mac can’t. Thought this would work on my phone and I could Airplay to my Apple TV.

The problem is that I don’t see any way to tell it to use the entire album (over 4,000 items), and I’m not about to sit here and tap on every item to include it in the slideshow.

Please add a feature to just select a whole album, not just individual photos.

I like DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow overall and that you can use iCloud and Google Photos but one reason I picked another app (PixFolio) is that you can change the zoom to your liking during the slideshow- for example adjusting with your finger scroll. PixFolio also has access to multiple cloud services including iCloud and Google Photos.

I wanted a digital photo frame that displays both photos and videos, but was hard to find a good one that is cost effective and didn’t have limitations with what it could display. I have an iPad I never use so after some research, I discovered DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow and it was perfect.

You can use iCloud albums to organize photos, so I created album that my partner and I add to all the time. And DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow automatically refreshes so no need to restart DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow each time you add photos/videos.

Many slideshow settings are customizable, even down to how the caption text is displayed. Can mix photos & videos and there’s no limit on how long videos can be (I have some that are a few minutes long). I love you can set a timer to have the display automatically turnoff at night. I created a frame from an 8x10 frame so my iPad looks like a real digital frame and it looks great! I catch myself just walking by and stopping to see what comes up.

I had been searching around forever for an app to display my photos from a shared album since the apple version doesn’t work well and this is it! Plays videos, live photos, and normal photos seamlessly. Lots of options within DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow to customize how you want them played too. And IF you run into any problem (unlikely) you can contact the developer (Manuel) and he is super nice, very responsive, and willing to work with you to resolve it and even push out an update if needed. I am super happy with DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow and totally recommend it!!!

Many great features in DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow . It connects directly to your iPad Photos and other photo libraries. It even plays the audio on your video files. I have a digital picture frame. It’s larger than an iPad, but you have to load photos into it one by one. I’ll give it to somebody. There are many options for what to show on the screen, and you can even drag the displays to where you want them. It would be nice to have settings for font sizes. I just wish my iPad was bigger. LOL

Hi Manuel, I want it to display 12 hour time, but it’s stuck on 24 hour, even after force quitting and restarting DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow . Would be cool if the text background could be a little more opaque, or maybe an opacity adjustment in settings? Otherwise it’s excellent, and filling a niche that I haven’t seen any other app fill...ESPECIALLY because it supports iCloud Photo Library! Excellent work. I subscribed for a year. I repurposed an old iPad to replace the Google Nest Hub to show photos in the kitchen, because I decided to switch the family to Apple and away from Google.

My wife and I have been looking for a way to view and share our decades of digital photos. She used to build these great photo albums (IRL, actual notebooks). We knew we had years of digital photos, but they were spread between a hard drive in our home office, and the Apple cloud. We tried several photo frame hardware devices, smart TVs with a thumb drive, and even Apple TV. None of them had a good rotation, nor integrated multiple sources of photos. Digital Photo Frame Slideshow has been the answer we needed!

DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow is perfect, it does everything you’d want a slide show app to do. But have 1 small enhancement request... is it possible to link the photo? In other words, have an icon on each photo, so if I want to go into that photo I can do that? Maybe I want to share a pic on social media etc., so a link like that world be cherry on the cake for me. Currently, I have the date displayed so I know what time frame to go find it. But the quick share link would be a dream feature for me. But even without this dream feature DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow is still very well designed! Thanks!

I purchased an iPad solely as a digital frame for my parents, thanks to the amazing app that I have discovered! DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow is loaded with numerous features, but the one that stood out the most was its ability to synchronize with Google Photos. I created a shared folder with all my siblings, and we can all add pictures that automatically show up at my parents' house.

Although DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow is great, I do have one suggestion. I wish it had an option to display multiple pictures on both sides of a portrait-oriented picture, similar to the Apple Photos app's slideshow mode.

If you’re looking for an app to give new life to an old slow iPad then get DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow! Your old iPad will become an easily customizable picture frame, that’s so much better than those expensive stand-alone photo frames, which usually have proprietary subscriptions and limited access to users and new content. In our case we have 53,000 photos, live photos, and videos stored at Google Photos and backed up at Apple. I can select either of those sources (there also Dropbox and other sources) and the content becomes an extremely configurable slide show that I display on my kitchen counter. I can customize things like transitions, time displayed, scaling, overlays (such as time and location meta info), turning off the display at night, and more. Another great feature is the ability to pause a photo or video, and you can then even text, airdrop, email it or post it to social media. I do have one tip though, to get the maximum number of photos to display, update the old iPad to the latest iOS that the system suggests. I have only one negative issue to share, it now takes me much longer to complete any task in the kitchen because my attention keeps drifting to the Digital Photo Frame! It’s so much fun to relive all those memories.

I previously was using Frameo and a digital frame but was looking for an alternative option using an iPad mini instead due to the Frameo frame having WiFi connectivity issues after moving it. DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow, Digital Photo Frame Slideshow, and LiveFrame were the two main options I found for displaying a shared album. I tried out both free trials and prefer DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow due to the better user interface.

Both apps have similar functionality, such as on/off times, date/time/weather/caption display, and other slideshow configuration options. LiveFrame seemed to have better overall compatibility since it’s able to connect to Google Photos, Instagram, etc, but this was irrelevant to me since I had the photos in a shared album. It also was cheaper, but Digital Photo Frame Slideshow had a better user interface that made me pick it instead. It is more intuitive to use and supports multiple languages instead of just English.

If price isn’t a concern, I would definitely pick this over all other apps (as of February 2025)!

UPDATE: The developer was very responsive. Within a day of reaching out DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow was updated and plays videos perfectly and everything is scaled property. I love DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow!!

But after updating my iPad to iOS 18.3 the photos, and especially videos, don't scale anymore. I've set it to scale in DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow , which is how I've had it set from the beginning, but it didn't fix the problem. I updated and still no fix. I still love DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow because it plays my videos but it's frustrating to see them too big to fit in the frame. I hope you can resolve this or tell me how. Otherwise, great app and I even paid the the premium version

Ohhhhh I cannot begin to explain how happy I am to have found DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow!!! I’ve been driving myself mad trying to find a digital frame with the functionality I am looking for, when really all I needed was my old iPad, a cute frame, and DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow!!!! Ridiculously easy to set up whatever slide show you want with many options and you can do it from the albums you already have without having to load them on a memory card or send them to some email address…

Go ahead and buy it because the lifetime access at $25 is worth every penny. Much better than some $150 digital frame that is just meh.

I spent a lot of time organizing and editing several thousand trip photos and want to use an old iPad to display them for our family instead of having them hidden away in iCloud. DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow is just what I’ve been looking for to display them. I figured out how to use DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow in a couple minutes and it works great. I like all the options for transitions and how long to display each photo. I also like that I can select many albums at a time rather than having to put all the photos I want to display in one album. The timer option is also very useful. I will be using DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow and my iPad on our kitchen island to give us happy memories of our trips.

My old iPad 2 still works but the more modern apps don’t work with it anymore and my uses for it for dwindling. But I hung on to it because it’s a memory of my mom who passed away in 2019. She had used it a lot of some games.

An idea occurred to me to see if I could find an app for the old iPad 2 to use it as a digital photo frame. Fortunately I came across DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow. It downloaded and booted which was cool. Alas it cost me a cool $25 for the lifetime membership. But just for DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow being able to work on an ancient iPad 2 made it work it for the memories I can display on it for as long as the iPad 2 still works. I have DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow on my iPad Air 2 now in case I want to use it in the future. Good jobs in keeping compatibility across all devices.

My "retired" iPad 2 and iPad 3 are running 24/7 slideshows from shared albums.

I tried Apple Photos built-in slideshow feature, but it would not run continuously. I was restarting each iPad's slideshow daily, sometime twice a day. That was irritating enough to find another solution.

DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow runs on old iPads and does the job well. I can quickly select a shared album and start the slideshow. DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow has many options. I like the flip transition. I set 10 seconds for each picture. I especially like the option to NOT play videos.

I prevented my picture-frame iPads going dark by searching for "auto-lock" in the Settings app--change it to "Never".

DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow has a subscription payment model. I am still in the one week free trial period. It is working just the way I want. For me, it is worth $10 per year.

Update, several months later, the subscription has gained value. Two iPods Touch and an iPhone 6 are running slideshows 24/7. DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow ’s Ken Burns transition helps on those tiny screens. And today I added an old-ish, cracked-screen iPad to the digital picture frame lineup. Six devices. This is a great way to get end-of-life value from old, but still working screens.

I have been using DigitalPhotoFrameSlideshow for over a few months and I love it! I love how user-friendly it is. I select the album, choose the settings, and it starts just like that! I also like the features it has. I like that I have the ability to select to display the time, date, and weather. I also like the feature to set the time when the pictures display and stop. This is super convenient, especially because the pictures start by themselves once you have selected them the first time. Having photos and videos automatically appear in the slideshow once you have added them to an album is amazing too, especially since you do not have to exit the album to load it again! This is an amazing app, and I highly recommend it!

- Supports the newest screen sizes and features. I use it with a 12.9” iPad Pro and there are so many slideshow apps that still have awful scaled-up displays. The UI here is clean, attractive, and it all looks “right”.

Best of all, it all just works! I can set it up the way I want, and then just leave it alone.
