Add me to the list of people who can’t get an SMS verification code to even sign up.

The description for HELLOCYCLING says that it has English, but there is no English option that I can find. Not tourist friendly.

I found this apps from someone who recommended it in YouTube. They claims that anyone can rent a bike, even for someone who is just visiting Japan and do not have a Japan phone number. I downloaded the apps and tried to register with a U.S. phone number, however, after tried so many times and never received a SMS with my US phone number. Very disappointed and wish the developer of this apps should be clearly have a disclaimer if this apps only work with a Japan phone number.

Frustrating waste of time.

No bike is ever available. Even if there is a bike available, there is no battery left!

Contrary to the description, HELLOCYCLING is available only in Japanese, which makes it unsuitable for tourists.

Our bikes were automatically returned during a short park. The platform responded to our complains unclearly and refused to refund. It was an awful experience.

It has the counties area code selection section on HELLOCYCLING but never sent text confirmation code to my phone num. I think you have to have Jp phone number to register.

Seems you can't register with a US phone number.

Let’s you pick a foreign number but won’t actually send the registration sms

Just wasting everyone’s time

App is useless if you have a foreign number, tried with American number and could not rent a bike because of this. You shouldn’t have to use a phone number to rent a bike.

So basically even you find a bike you cannot use it you have to make a reservation on HELLOCYCLING . If the bike is reserved by other people you just have to find others. When you lock/unlock you cannot do it by app, you have to do it manually, kind disappointed by the service, it was not so nice.

On four or five occasions now, I’ve had to park one or more kilometers away from my hotel because nearby parkable stations are full. This is especially inconvenient during typhoon season when I have to walk back home in the rain. furthermore, wasting so much time looking for parkable stations add significantly to the cost, as you are charged by the minute. This experience needs to be rethought.

i’m not sure if the registration process could’ve been more difficult between having to scroll through a huge list of country codes every single time the text messaging system failed to text me too getting all the way to the end of the process figuring they had stolen enough personal information to rob my bank only to find out that it’s still going to cost something monthly. just. Say. No.

Does not send the verification code if you have a US number.

I tried to register via text message, but I didn’t receive the text message code confirmation . I’ve tried multiple times. Please fix the system. Thank you.

I and many of my neighbors have been using this system for a few months now and overall it is excellent. There are some things you need to be aware of to ensure your experience is trouble free. Because you need to return bikes to a this app spot ( not just leave them anywhere) at computing times they tend to fill up around train stations so you may get stuck having to park further away than you like. Before you choose a bike, be sure to check the battery power left - if not the power assist on the bike may die on you before reach your destination (an inconvenience but you can always still use your own leg power!). Unfortunately, you can’t check the condition of a bike remotely so if you use the registration system to hold a bike for you are rolling the dice that the bike you chose is charged and without issues - but you can always cancel if you want to. Finally, becareful to properly check the bike back in and get a confirmation message before you walk away - when I was new to the system I failed to do this once and the system kept sending me reminder messages to my phone the rest of the day until I could cancel it. This was my fault, not the system but you want avoid this.

Use these bikes all the time in Tokyo. Super easy. Super fun
