Bike map

2022-05-21

Less than zero.just garbage!

Useless for people in the US or Canada.

2022-06-22

BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS has no support for these countries. I'm not sure why Apple even has it on sale here.

Works great in DC

2022-07-23

Ive used BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS for almost 2 years and it’s really never let me down. The directions do a good job of finding the beat route, and it does a really good job of keeping me off of dangerous roads. I recommend it for anyone looking for a safe bike ride.

Doesn’t work

2022-08-24

After you pay for it, then you find out it won’t do what you thought it would do.

No funciona en México

2022-09-25

Es una lástima, tan buena que se ve la app, y no funciona en México, denle más soporte.

Not functional without in-app pay

2022-10-26

No navigation without paying $18 for “all cities.”

I like the concept but.....

2022-11-27

It doesn't support the U.S.!

Poorly designed

2022-12-28

I use BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS in NYC and there are so many poorly designed details that I would just rather use Google Maps. The map itself is hard to read, due to the color scheme; getting directions to a specific destination is not smooth - it is unintuitive and takes like 5-7 taps (compared to Google Maps which takes 2-3); addresses are not presented in an easy to read format (I don't need the name of the county!); and there's no integration with google maps locations, which means you have to type in the full address of a destination, instead of the name of it. Overall, it seems like it's probably designed for European cities, and that's why some of the nuances of maps/directions are off.

Lack of American North East

2023-01-29

Completely Eurocentric. Lacked Boston area one of the most commuter bike friendly places in the USA.

Routing algorithm needs improvement

2023-03-02

Even after the recent overhaul, the biking directions BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS produces often make no sense. They route me down side streets with tons of stop signs. They tell me to cross busy streets at unsignalized locations. They take me way off course just to ride on random paths on the sides of busy roads.

Trying to purchase Bay Area South Map

2023-03-31

Downloaded BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS but was unable to install the “Bay Area South Map”, it says “City Pack not found.” And I’m not willing to purchase the entire world pack for $18. As of right now BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS is useless to me, I wanted better bike routes but I can’t even find out if they’re any good before I buy it.

Disappointing, buggy, nice try

2023-05-02

Downloaded BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS and was hoping for a good experience. Managed to avoid the misleading purchase requests and got it working to try before buying. Did one ride, worked great. Tried to use it again, but kept getting GPS position is unknown error. Google Map had no such problem with my GPS position, and since it also does bike routes for free, I’m not seeing the point of BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS. I did try to make a big report through BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS , but I also got an error. Oops! Seems like my GPS position isn’t recognized when I choose to only share my location when I’m using BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS . I love irony, but not from navigation apps.

Good, with room for tweaks

2023-06-02

Works better than the other bike navigator I tried. Succeeds in generating routes and with voice commands, but they are sometimes overestimate distance to intersections or don't specify which exit from a roundabout to take, so if you're not looking at the map, can leave you in the lurch.

Would love to be able to save favorite destinations/routes.

Another bonus feature would be routing that accounted for hills. Madrid is hilly!

Generally quite happy with this and look forward to improvements.

Bitchin

Great way to find best routes possible when traveling through unfamiliar neighborhoods. Loads of data, simple design. Awesomeness.

Simply the best cycling navigation app for cities

2023-08-04

Confidence. That’s what using the Bike Citizens app has given me. In my home town, or any of the 450 cities it covers, I know can load it up and it will get to my destination on a nice ‘quiet’ route (my preference vs ‘fast’).

The increasing availability of shared bicycle schemes such as Santander in London or Citi Bikes in New York, etc, has made cycling a viable and exciting way to explore cities while travelling. So far I’ve used it in 9 cities and it’s been excellent (I paid for the global map upgrade).

Is it perfect? No.
Is it significantly better than Google Maps? Yes. Google Maps is 90~95% there for cars but only 50% there for cycling; our routing needs are different. If you want to reduce the risk of a car accident, be on roads where there’s less cars. Simple. Even for cities I ‘know’, Bike Citizens helps me do that. As an additional bonus, I’ve gotten to know my home city that much better!

Highlights
- the loud audio ‘turn by turn’ navigation prompts mean you can often navigate without the screen (just place the phone in a top pocket)
- once you’ve downloaded a city you can keep the phone in airplane mode, saving both data and battery usage, and the audio navigation STILL works. This has been INVALUABLE
- BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS introduced me to the Finn handle bar navigation aid which is extremely affordable ($10~), portable, and doesn’t require a special phone case (unlike, say, Topeak’s $40+ products)

Quirks (none of which are deal breakers)
- unlike the UK’s CycleStreets app it doesn’t show any bicycle parking. This data is also available in OSM and would be a very useful addition (a small blue dot on the map would suffice)
- while you can select between three routing options, you can’t ‘edit’ the route in app...
- ...so when you divert from BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS ’s chosen course (because you know a better route, say), you have to listen to it saying ‘recalculating route’, over and over and...
- BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS will say ‘take the first to the left’ when really it means ‘take the second left’.
- you can’t search for ‘100 5th Avenue’, only ‘5th Avenue’, which can be annoying for such long streets (solution: find a short street near your destination and use that instead)
- The Komoot app will navigate using street names, not just with ‘turn left’, which can be confusing when faced with multiple options

It’s not often you find an app that genuinely makes your life easier or better; this is one of those gems. ‘Thank you’ to the team who put this together! (June 2019)

Works great in NYC

2023-09-05

BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS felt safer to me than google maps in real time on the road. But I would love to be able to add multiple destinations on my routes & I am disappointed that I can’t automatically set my current position as a starting point. Otherwise I’m very happy with BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS in place of a bike computer.

Get more NYC people on here! I want more from the social aspects of BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS! It has great potential for biking communities.

Great for commuters

2023-10-07

Great application for commuting as well as pleasure rides

Best bike app

2023-11-07

After downloading various bike apps in BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS store, I have finally found the right one.

Bike citizens is just what you want from a bike app. The gps component is outstanding. It calculates the best route depending on the type of bike you're riding. 5 starts

Very useful app

2024-11-17

Just started biking and am using BikeCitizensCyclingAppGPS to track my time/distance as well as show me good routes. It sometimes sends me strange ways - once it sent me through a private parking lot - but is in general great at showing you the way to go. Love it. It even works on my bet up old iPhone 5! It's not perfect - the odd directions sometimes and an upload bug which I've reported, so 4.5 if I could!
