One of few great life counter apps

I love Carbon. It’s very responsive, clean and intuitive. Customization such as colors and settings isn’t lacking. It has some helpful tools. But it’s not quite complete in my opinion.

I wish I could give this a 4.5. A few things that would make this a 5 star for me: The ability to keep track of damage from multiple commanders (instead of just one, it’s kind of useless with 3+ player commander games), and secondly, the damage history (log) is also kind of useless. If I take 3 damage and I’m at 37 life, the history will just show -1 -1 -1 instead of showing -3. This makes it impossible to track down damage that was done turns ago or maybe previous steps or phases. Other apps have a short timer with the button press that will consolidate the damage to a single number, such as -3. And a few other quality of life additions are always wanted.

Overall, this is one of a few great life counter apps on Carbon Store. And I would gladly give it a perfect score if Carbon continues to see support from its developers. Don’t stop supporting Carbon, it’s almost perfect!

Jack of All Trades, Master of Most!

First of all, I thought it would be relevant to inform you folks that I don’t even have the premium version of Carbon. I’m a college student. I’m too broke to pay for an app.
That being said, this is a stellar app for a Magic the Gathering player. It has everything I could want in every format (except +1 and -1 counters, but there’s probably no real way of implementing that for more than one creature) and it has a surprising amount of things that I want as a D&D player. I’m a dungeon master. I use life totals as monsters’ hit points. I use the dice for... well, dice.
Basically what I’m saying is, this is a great app for Magic, and it’s a great app for D&D. Nerds of all shapes and sizes can appreciate this beautiful thing.

Crisp and elegant game companion

When I first installed Carbon , I didn’t really see the point of it or a benefit to it that outweighed my usual methods of tracking life and counters.

I changed my mind very quickly. The design is incredibly satisfying- it’s simple, sleek, and straightforward in its usage. I use it every time I play, or one of my fellow players will bring it out. Also, while clearly designed for some games over others, it is still readily usable in games that require any form of scoring or keeping track of tokens/counters/turns/etc.

Great! Beats the MTG life counter ‘official’ app!

Carbon is way more streamlined and customizable than the MTG life counter app!!! The minimalistic design is a wonderful touch on an app that has given me no problems so far. It is also much more counter friendly for those of us who don’t have 20-sided dice. Obviously I’d like to see more free features in 2020 including the new and coming “name” function. Because of the paid features I will probably keep both apps for awhile and see if the paid functions make Carbon overwhelmingly inefficient. If more free features are added, I’ll probably get rid of the old MTG app and keep this one, along with re-reviewing Carbon with an emphatic five stars!!

Best Counter I’ve Encountered

I’ve used many apps over my 10 years playing, and this is not only the cleanest, but the most functional. Even picking the players is fun, and it supports on the fly commander damage counters and displays everything cleanly and at a glance. Easy to see the board state any given time, and we’ve had six players at once with commander damage counters. It kept up and most importantly, clean. The fun colors are a bonus

The best

This is by far the best life and counter tracker you can find in Carbon Store. But I do have a few complaints. The chooser seems to be rigged. When playing with two people it always chooses the person who’s finger is closest to the top of the screen. Also I’ve paid for the premium features of Carbon and even though Carbon has been updated I still can’t input players names. I’ve paid for this and there was an update 1 day ago from this review and I still can’t do this. This makes me feel like I paid for nothing.

Great App (Especially after the big update)

I’ve had Carbon for quite a while and it is definitely my go to for any tabletop game that requires life tracking. Now that a few little annoying quirks were fixed with the big update, it’s even better. Makes games of Magic the Gathering super quick and streamlined. And you can even just the chooser part to pick turns or even “flip coins”.
Great app, nice people behind it.
5/5

A bit glitchy at times, but really functional

I have gotten the full version due to this being my favorite app for life counting, and also being a really basic, yet powerful app.
I enjoy using it throughout my nerdy conquests, yet I have a few things to report.

Sometimes when you add a counter, like energy, and it changes numbers a few times, you can’t remove the counter. It ends up taking up needed space, especially on the phone.

When it comes to updates, we could use names. It’s been nine months, and adding names and a bug fix or two could really be the finishing touch to Carbon .
I know it says they are working on adding names, but it’s been nine months since their last update, and I think they have forgotten.

Besides this 10/10 purchase

5/5 Stars! Stellar App.

Been using this for at least a couple years now- flawless app with beautiful, minimalist aesthetic. So easy to use! I’ve used it at my LGS for drafts, kitchen counter games with my buddy, and bigger tournaments. Everyone I’ve played with loves Carbon . Being able to see the history of each match is a huge plus. The alternate counters make keeping track of everything so simple (i.e. commander damage, poison, charge counters, etc). Love Carbon !!

Lovely tracking app, nicer than the official companion MtG app

A wonderful companion to this old dog getting back in.

In my journey, I’m getting back into MtG after a 20 year hiatus, and Carbon makes tracking my and my wife’s (my enabler and co-rookie) life and other counters.

Love the colors, options, and simple design. Features like marking a player as dead or king of the table are cute touches (be a good sport about it).

Awesome, except for one thing.

Carbon looks amazing. I’ve been using Mutility for years and was immediately ready to buy the premium version of Carbon and switch over, except for one thing. Carbon doesn’t allow you to keep track of names. Until I can enter names on Carbon, I’ll continue to use Mutility, but as soon as it does I’ll be making the switch and updating my review to 5 stars! I hope this review will provide some incentive to the developers!

Fantastic App

Great interface and easy to use. Its fun to play with and customize. Perfect for multiplayer games. I wish some features were available in the free version but Premium is 4.99 and i think if you play often with 2 or more players its totally worth it. Carbon has everything for Magic The Gathering.

Only reason 4 stars is because you can’t add names to the life counters. Once they fix it, I’ll give 5 stars.

Good counter

Carbon performs pretty well. I payed the $5 for the extra version but was a little underwhelmed by it. It allows you to change the colors and a couple other small things, but nothing too significant. They say they will be adding a name area as well that sounds interesting. The inly thing i wished they added was a difference counter for when you take away or add health. It would be nice to see a -5 or +5 in case i forget how much life I took away at one time.

By far the best MTG Life Counter App

I wish I could use it in competitive Rules Enforcement Level it’s that good. But those big tourneys are few, and far between for me anyway. I love Carbon. It is my dream come true. It is the absolute reason a Commander Match is smooth. I use it primarily in Standard, and man it’s great. Modern, I am using it for infect tracking, and it does wonders. It’s great for counting floating Black mana for Chromatic Black in Standard as well. Excellent app.

This is the one

Seriously, this is the best life counter ever but it’s not just a life counter, it’s got match history, many counters, a match timer and tons of customization not to mention dice and a feature to choose who goes first. However most other features are hidden behind a paywall, but other than that this is perfect!😄

Better than the others.

I met Jon while playing at my local card shop on our casual commander nights. He saw that I was using other apps to keep life counts, and recommended his after showing it in the games. I really have to say, he was right. It provides everything you need, and it is so aesthetically pleasing. Couldn’t give it a higher rating.

Great app!

The best app I’ve used for MTG. The life total works as expected, Carbon has options for light and dark modes, and the touch to see who goes first is more fun than the standard roll you will see on other apps. 5/5 would recommend to anyone regardless of if you’re playing casually or bringing it to your local card shop for competitive play.

Great app

Carbon is really great and beautiful! I just wish the timer could be used for rounds too, not only for the match. I would like to play mtg limiting the time each player has to think and make the play, but with the current timer it’s not possible since we have to click on 3 places to start, pause and restart de timer...
If round timer was a feature I would definitely grade it 5 stars!
