Great idea but terrible execution

The EAD has the potential to be amazing. Sadly Yamaha didn’t really support the product with a good app when it launched. It has been riddled with various issues such as video being zoomed in for no reason when recording. I’d have to take sample videos and watch them back to see what the video would actually look like. Finally they put out a new update and the UI is kinda clunky. Stoked to see some updates but RecnShare breaks all the time. The biggest killer is the video quality has gone to crap. I have a nice lighting rig with 4K IPhone. For whatever reason the video has a ton of noise in it which basically makes RecnShare useless to me. Ive tested it before where I record a video with RecnShare and then a video with just the phone. Crazy how low quality it is. (Yes I have the high quality setting on within RecnShare ). I’d rather record from the output of the brain and shoot video on my camera then sync the two in post than use RecnShare . Real bummer because there’s so much potential here and doing the alternative is way more work. Please make RecnShare usable again and support high quality 4K video recording. We NEED this if we’re going to use this product.

EAD great, rec and share app horrid

I’ve been practicing and really trying to grow as a drummer/musician. Recording and the entire tech part of it not my bag but I agreed to get the EAD bc it seemed so effortless plus offered tons of great options sound/trigger wise w/ built in metronome too.
The rec and share app to try to record these sessions has been horrid though (approx 12 months of using).
With the latest iPhone update it won’t even work.
I have to find other midi/daw options to record bc now I am missing recording deadlines for collabs I committed to and there seems to be little if any interest in RecnShare being supported/updated/bugs squashed.
Too bad bc I I’m sure many more musicians would love to try the EAD if they had a supportive recording app to pair with it.

Will not work with EAD10

When I first got this item it would take some effort to get it to connect to the EAD10. Most times I would get it to work with GarageBand first, then switch to Rec & Share to use it. Now, it won’t connect at all. I can’t get the EAD10 to connect to RecnShare on my iPhone 6s, but when tested on my friend’s iPhone X it worked fine. The 6s is running iOS 12.3.1, and SHOULD be compatible, but it won’t work at all. I am really frustrated because there is zero information about this problem online.

App is TRASH

Where do I even begin?
-Hardly ever recognizes the unit even though I have the proper usb
-Click mapping is a joke
-Won’t remove the click from the audio after recording videos. Customer service told me that this has always been the case and the click stays in the video, but that is 100% not true at all. I have multiple videos on my social media that show only music and my drums. No click. Even emailed them the links to the videos so they could see and hear for themselves, but got nothing back.
-Crashing and deleting every video saved on it.
-Music volume in videos is insanely loud no matter how much I adjust the level.

About to just sell mine because this is a joke. $500 for something that doesn’t even work the way it’s supposed to.

Starting to get disappointed

At first RecnShare was amazing and worked very well with Yamaha ead 10. Buttttt. After owning it for a few months things are getting pretty bad. App won’t recognize ead 10 is connected 80%of the time which is one thing. But the major thing is that my recording aren’t in sync with the music anymore. I’m talking about being off by a whole beat. That’s unacceptable especially being aimed towards drummers. Starting to really get annoyed. Please update RecnShare . It’s been so long and you’re screwing a lot of people over at this point.

Just awful

It won’t connect to my phone 90 percent of the time. It’s not my phone, the cables or anything. My phone charges and reacts to everything else instantly with our problems. It’s just a terrible terrible app. It doesn’t work and that makes the product a rip off. Sort your issues out Yamaha. I’ve really lost faith in your brand now. Avoid and sell your ead 10 is my advice.

Rec n share app is flawed

Recently purchased the ead10 and got the rec n share app and from the get go RecnShare had flaws
1. Had to set the camera quality to high to get it to record
2. Couldn’t get my apple account to pop up on RecnShare for songs I wanted to record along to and had to create a playlist via Apple Music and when you go to click the playlist the rec n share app just crashes
3. Could only use songs downloaded on Dropbox
4. After finally practicing and finally getting comfortable with the song when you go to record the camera just doesn’t want to record via RecnShare

I paid $500 for the ead10 and honestly would rather have an app I paid for with 100% user functionality than a free app that doesn’t work at all.

Why isn’t Yamaha supporting this better question

I’ve had RecnShare to use with my Yamaha DTX10 kit. But I’ve only had success loading maybe one or two different songs. Anything else that I attempt to load just freezes RecnShare . Then I need to close it and reopen it again to try one more time. It’s been extremely frustrating. And yes, I have 3.2.2 on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Such great promise for RecnShare, but very frustrating.

Doesn’t record without spending big bucks

RecnShare would be a lot better if Yamaha didn’t make you spend $500 for a piece of recording equipment like the EAD10 to record with. They should include the recording capability. A practice app just isn’t enough. Also explains the low review rate. Yamaha should include recording and mixing of volume only and save the effects for the EAD10. Just my opinion.

Extremely buggy, works 10% of the time

RecnShare barely recognizes that it’s connected to a Yamaha drum set, it will pull up the connection screen and immediately crash, then tell you it must be connected to a valid device (which it is), requiring my entire phone to be restarted before it can recognize the device again. Once it does connect, recordings will stutter randomly, desyncing the audio and video at random spots throughout a recording. Sometimes the audio just cuts out completely and permanently, requiring you to restart RecnShare , but then RecnShare doesn’t recognize the valid device anymore, requiring you to restart your phone before it can work again (rinse and repeat for constant crashes)

Cuts of songs.

I love being able to record but for someone reason when I upload local songs from Dropbox, it cuts 10 seconds of the song of. It usually happens around 1:20 mark. I’ve tried to delete the file and upload again but it still happens.

Useful app, need pro version

Been using RecnShare since not long after it came out. For a free app, this really is handy tool for looping sections of a song and adjusting tempo for practice. I'm not aware of another app that does this.

It also works well with my EAD10 (the real purpose of RecnShare ) for making videos. It can get a little finicky sometimes though.

One thing I've had trouble with is the metronome. It auto-detects the tempo and downbeat of the song, but on tracks that start anywhere other than the downbeat, it places the downbeat there. I've also had it detect the pulse in the wrong subdivision, and it typically fails if there is a tempo change anywhere in the song. I've worked around this by using a song with a click track already in it.

Mainly, I really wish RecnShare could record without the EAD10 by using phone audio & camera for the performance, and also for the metronome tempo & placement to be able to be set manually. I would pay money for this functionality and would absolutely then recommend it to every musician I know.

Ead 10 great, rec n share app notsomuch

1. None of the songs I’ve downloaded on iTunes can be played through RecnShare (this data cannot be selected). Downloaded Dropbox which is the only way I could play to a song and record my performance. Works flawlessly through the aux cord but only able to practice that way.
2. It’ll record fine a couple of times then outta nowhere it says please connect to a compatible device. Very frustrating, this is the main reason I purchased the $500 ead10
3. No way to manually adjust the click. It doesn’t get it right for every song so if it’s off tempo, the click is basically useless.

The ead10 is a great practice tool and with a little help from the developers of RecnShare, it could be great for recording. On the other hand, it’s a free app and you get what u pay for

Great App Except for Click

Really great app but the click feature needs some tweaking. If the tempo changes in the tune whether on purpose or maybe the song didn’t use a click to track to or the drummer is excitable or lazy, the click gets confused and doesn’t track well which i guess is understandable.

However on a tune where the tempo is solid throughout but say the “beat” eases up.. for example: the bridge to “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette, the tempo stays constant but the rhythm gets quiet, the click basically goes “¯\_(ツ)_/¯” and then it finds if way back to the tempo of the song as soon as the loop drums pick back up. It’s quite annoying.

Nice ,but…

Using it with audio separation function to remove drum track and replace with my own . Some quality of remaining sounds is lost but it’s ok for the fun I’m having . Removing the vocal track can be done as well but how does one out their own mic intro the ead10. I tried with an xlr to 1/8 cable but didn’t work and can’t find any information about how to do this . For just drums though I’m enjoying this

Great practice tool but has become extremely buggy.

RecnShare is amazing and has worked flawlessly for a long time. So convenient for recording videos and posting to socials. I’ve noticed in the past couple months it’s become EXTREMELY buggy. It will work fine for a few minutes and then continue to crash constantly. I’ll close out RecnShare and sometimes that works but mostly not. I’ll restart my phone and again same thing. I’ve deleted and redownloaded RecnShare ……..same thing. I love using RecnShare and would like to continue to do so. Can we please get an update or fix the issue? Also, my EAD10 module is all up to date as well.

Works great with EAD 10

This works amazingly well. A suggestion for the developers - sometimes the tempo/metronome analysis is wrong (off time or wrong signature). It would be wonderful to have a manual override to set the time signature and tempo. You can try to adjust the tempo if it is wrong, but it jumps to a precision that is a percentage off the tempo (not granular enough). Otherwise RecnShare is really amazing

Follow the instructions and it works perfectly.

I felt compelled to write this review because there are so many bad ones. RecnShare is seriously amazing, it just seems there’s some confusion around connecting it to the EAD10. You need two very specific cables: a USB 2.0 A-male to B-male (NOT 3.0 and no more than 10ft long), and a genuine Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter (USB, not USB3, and the CAMERA adapter only). You also need to connect everything BEFORE powering on the EAD10. Basically, follow the EAD10 manual to the letter, and RecnShare works perfectly every time.

IOS 11.2.5 Works perfect on IPad Pro 10.5

Works 100% perfect on IOS 11.2.5 IPad Pro 10.5”

Great app which allows playback of songs both ITunes and personal with ability to video at high medium or low settings. Also allows playback at pre determined beats per minute and all 100% free! Works especially great with IPad in landscape mode!

This is awesome

Don’t listen to the 1-star reviews saying it won’t connect to the EAD10. They are reviews written by people who cannot take the liberty of looking up how to connect them to RecnShare . Since I know off the top of my head the required cables to connect them, I will list them:

USB 2.0 A-Male to B- Male (Plug B-Male side into the rectangular port on module.)

Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (Plug A-Male side from the first cable listed into the USB A port in adapter and then plug lightning port into your phone.)

If it still shows that it won’t connect try restarting RecnShare and unplugging the phone and reconnecting it. Hope this helped.
