Shameful.

Nearly 8 months after the product release, we finally get a mobile Rode Central that was promised to be "coming soon" when the product was announced. After a monumental wait, we still can’t transfer files to our iOS devices. We still can’t listen to our recordings without a computer. The desktop app still does not have batch options. The 32-bit float of the device still clips audio. This amazing product does not live up to the specifications that the company stated and the software’s lack of real world usability is a joke. I’m beyond disappointed. If any third party developers are listening, I’d pay $100 for an app that would let me batch offload the uncompressed audio from this device to my iPad. I can’t wait for Røde to get their act together.

Updated and it still doesn’t work

I updated both my sets of wg2 and neither of them are connecting. Description doesn’t say anything about needing the ride sc-15 but I’m sure that’s the case. So our perfectly fine lightning to type c cables provided to us by apple aren’t going to work because you want us to spend more money on an accessory that’s not even available anywhere. It’s been sold out for months, or it’s just not been released yet. So you release RØDECentral , and make it impossible to use without the cable you want us to buy, but we can’t buy the cable because no one carries it.

Do this to get it working

I have RØDECentral working on my iPhone SE 2020 and my iPad Air 4. It's value is that it lets you change the mic settings with a mobile device; there is no access to the recordings. Hopefully that's coming soon. (Attention Rode: many of us do our editing on the iPad, having to use a computer to access the audio files is right up there with iTunes/iPod circa 2005.)

iPad Air 4 and Pro - You need the Rode USB cable that came with Mics and a USB C hub with a USB A port (common and inexpensive). Plug the Rode cable's USB-A connector into the hub and the USB-C end into the Receiver. Then plug the hub's into the iPad. Done.

iPhone - iPhone to receiver via SC-15 cable. RØDECentral is not optimized for a phone so it's very hard to read on a small screen.

And crucially... I downloaded the RODE Central app for Mac again just to be sure I had the latest version. I didn't, even though I had downloaded RØDECentral only 10 days prior. Once I did that it updated my firmware again and i could access the mobile app.

Tricky to setup the first time

This was frustrating at first. The UX is lacking. But after taking all the steps it did work!

1. Update Rode Central on your computer. There is no way to do this without downloading and reinstalling RØDECentral (no “search for updates” within RØDECentral ). I had an older version, so this faked me out at first.
2. Factory reset the receiver from Rode Central on your computer. You can’t just install the firmware. You’ve got to reset it first then make sure the firmware is up to date.
3. Update firmware for each transmitter from Rode Central on your computer.
4. Connect the powered on receiver to your phone (I’m using an iPhone 12 Pro Max) using the ROSC15 cable. I waited a couple of months to get this cable (back ordered) but I love it. Makes interface with the iPhone so easy.
5. Power on the transmitters.
6. Everything should show correctly in RØDECentral now. All my setting adjustments worked fine.

SC 15

I was extremely excited about getting my new rode II mic’s until I downloaded and updated the mobile app to find out that it is extremely hard to find the correct SC 15 cord to use with the mobile app. I don’t want to spend that kind of money on it to find out that it is not compatible or the corresponding C type to use with RØDECentral . Heart breaking that I can’t use RØDECentral on my phone. Like a bad dream that you never wake up from or constantly have being that I keep trying to see if it will eventually work. NOT!! I should have gone with the Dji mic’s.

Nothing Mobile about Wireless Go

Prior to purchase please consider that as of this moment, and for the many months before this moment after the Wireless Go II’s release, there is nothing mobile about this set up. There is no support for truly mobile creators, whether it be via iPad or iPhone. You will need additional cables only to interface with an app that doesn’t allow you to even download your files (that must be done on a traditional computer).

What are you thinking Rode?

Terrible! Big fan of your equipment, but how could you publicly release something that doesn’t work…at all. Especially with all the hype.

I’m guessing it’s this AP that is out of date or not working. Updating the Wireless Mics II was no problem.

Everything is on latest firmware. However AP just says over and over that things need to be updated to latest firmware. I have nothing left to update and reading all the other reviews…I’m not the only one.

You’re making it very hard for prosumers to rely on your products in the field.

Someone in your building needs to be accountable…and probably terminated for the brand damage they are doing to you.

Get it together Rode!

Doesn’t Recognize Wireless Go II

Attach Wireless Go II with latest firmware (v1.8.1) but app does not see anything connected. Using USB-C to lightning Charging/Data cable that came with IPhone 13…. Later discovered there is a small mention on website (not in App Store) that you must use Rode’s SC-15 or longer SC-19 USB-C to Lightning cable and that Apple’s provided charge/data cable “might not work”. I’m off to buy the Rode Cable (sigh).

Need to update Rode Central

You need to update Rode Central. With the new version you will see the new firmware updates. The existing version of rode central won't prompt you for the new version of the firmware.

Won’t upgrade firmware or recognize device with old firmware.

I was excited to see this as a potential solution to upgrading firmware and configuring my microphone settings. But my excitement was premature. I can’t use the iOS app until my devices are upgraded to the latest firmware, and I can’t upgrade them until I can borrow somebody’s Windows or Mac computer.

Does not connect with latest firmware

I have double checked and all my rode devices have the latest firmware. Yet the mobile app says to update to latest firmware. I use a PC laptop and have an iPhone. I’ve tried deleting RØDECentral and downloading again with the same outcome. Way too much of a headache. Big waste of time.

By

Remember- other reviews are missing this point.

Please note that you must download the latest version of the RØDE Central desktop app and update your Wireless GO II's firmware to use RØDE Central Mobile.

I Should’ve Trusted the Reviews

There isn’t much instruction on RØDECentral. I’ve YouTube’d solutions.

1. Apparently you need a USB-C to lightning cable that isn’t from Apple. (This is a design flaw to design an app for an iPhone that isn’t compatible with Apple products.

2. I bought a non-Apple cable. Still doesn’t recognize the Wireless Go II devices.

3. All the firmware is updated and there’s no instruction on where to go from there.

At the end of the day I’ll get a refund on my cable. But this is foolish to design an Apple app that doesn’t work with Apple cables, where cables are needed to connect to the devices.

What’s the point?

I read the reviews but decided to download RØDECentral anyway. Like everyone says, it won’t work unless you ALSO buy Rode’s $25 sc15 cable. RØDECentral has zero functionality until it recognizes a rode mic attached to your phone and that only happens if you’re using Rode’s special cable. What a waste!

Doesn’t work

Did everything I was supposed to like everyone else has and it doesn’t work with my iPhone.

Rode is usually pretty good about customer feedback and fixing things so hopefully they see these app reviews and fix it.

Awesome up!

Use Rode’s USB C to lightning cable to connect to iPhone…it works great!

Just make sure to also update software on your Mac and also the Rode II mics and receiver.

Essential app for RODE Wireless Go

I can adjust the receiver and transmitters from my iPhone or iPad, awesome. RØDECentral would be perfect if I could view recordings.

Doesn’t Work

Won’t connect to devices even using cable from Apple. Like another reviewer said, they’re wanting us to buy the $25 SC15 cable for $25, which also happens to be on back order everywhere. Makes me want to return my Rode devices!

Dido!

Same problem as the only other review. Doesn’t allow you do anything. Just says you need to update firmware. What a bummer!!!!!!!! Please try to update because this will really take your product to the next level.

Ms2 music

I followed the instructions deleted RØDECentral from my computer and reinstalled RØDECentral . It updated the receiver and transmitters. But when I connected them to my iPhone 11 Pro, nothing happens. Hopefully this can be corrected with a software update.

Guys Relax! It’s working!

It works perfect! Maybe the instructions are not clear but it works. This is how you do it. You need to use the Rode Cable USB-C to Lighting, then connect the receiver to your iPhone that’s the only one you connect, then the 2 transmitters you turn them on and you will see them on RØDECentral automatically.
