3.5 out of 5
Look elsewhere for cctv software

I’ve had several versions of this product and none of them work easily or reliably. Sometimes they will function properly for a week or two but inevitably they crash and if you don’t check the system routinely you could be left with days weeks or months of unrecorded footage. The developer is pretty greedy and charges for updates and adding additional cameras to the software. Fortunately camera manufacturers and others are now releasing free or very low cost software that does everything this product does and more

Killed the schedule

This version killed the schedule. If you have a schedule to arm the cameras for example, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and for some reason before 3:00 pm you have to manually disarm it, next day the schedule will not arm the cameras until you go to SecuritySpy on the server and set the actions back. I already contacted the support several times and I always got the same excuse, “there is an update coming soon” but it never happened.
Ben, you’re aware about this bug, please fix it.

Completely Unreliable

I have have been using Security Spy software for many years. I have tried using the SecSpy app on numerous iPads and iPhones for many years as well. I use the latest Netgear Orbi routers, and have had a Nighthawk as well. SecuritySpy does not connect. Port Forwarding is turned on, and UPnP enabled. I have no problem with other applications. I have corresponded many times with the developer and have complied with everything he said. He says it SHOULD work. The only solutions he offers are all of the expensive other options besides port forwarding. This product is wothless.

Problem with latest update

On iPad, when resuming SecuritySpy , the previously selected camera is not displayed, but rather the first one in the sequence. This has been a problem for over a month. I have to keep swiping to the camera I had previously selected every time SecuritySpy is brought to the foreground. This is a easy bug to fix, but yet has remained for over a month. Why is this issue not being address in a timely fashion?

No way to search

Been using SecuritySpy for a while now. There’s no way of searching for a specific date and time without having to roll through to the date and time you want to view.

Keeps getting worse with each of the

The playback on this app keeps getting worse each update. I have owned a copy of this since 2020 you used to be able to do visual scrubbing on the computer and now you can’t do that. That really brought things down because finding details it became very hard now SecuritySpy is getting the same way. This latest update the claims to improve stuff is absolutely the worst you can only got five seconds at a time and when you have 24 hours to go through it’s painstaking. Especially because you can only go five seconds forward and not back and there is no visual fingers scrubbing as there was before. I thought t for this guy. We are after spending a lot of money on this and spending a lot of time learning it. We are new because he’s not listening to what people want.

iOS 14 Upgrade introduces issues

I like SecuritySpy but ever since iOS 14, PTZ controls have gotten more and more sluggish and glitchy. Manual PTZ controls disappear when rotating a full screen live view and often when controlling a camera, video and audio will drop (getting the red X in center screen). Also when controlling a camera SecuritySpy will completely drop back to the standard camera picker view. This last one may be due to a change in iOS 14 regarding touch sensitivity settings as it seems iOS 13 was not as sensitive to finger drags where iOS 14 is - and translates a finger drag to a “go back to the previous page”.

Issues with latest update

Had been working flawlessly prior to the latest update on my iPhone. Now when you rotate screen to horizontal position when viewing camera it does not work, search for audio and video files retrieves no files from server when they exist, and date picker is scrambled when viewing.

Miss the the slow motion play speed

Please bring back the slow motion play speed.
Don’t need 5 seconds

Problem with captured files

Generally, this has been a good tool for quickly accessing my security spy server both remotely and from the sofa.

My biggest issue has been playing back and viewing captures files. I continuously capture all my cameras 24-7 with a new file starting every hour on the hour. However, when I go to review captured files from SecuritySpy , I can only view the first 4m 45 seconds of the video. That’s not helpful if I’m looking for an event that occurred later in the hour. Sometimes I’ll receive an alert that motion was detected, but I’ll need to wait until I can access the server directly to be able to see the recordings. This is really frustrating and stressful if I suspect something needs my attention immediately.

Improved But Needs More Work

The speed has improved but there are still drawbacks.

1. The white background is not ideal for viewing cameras, please change to a dark theme.
2. Please remove all the extra white boarder space around the camera preview to utilize more pixels for the footage itself (As done by LiveCams Pro).

Greatly improved

App is really maturing! When perusing video captures, I’d still like to see the last viewed video highlighted, so I can keep track of where I am in the list—maybe even provide a favorites toggle. It would also be great if captures could be saved to my photos. Lastly, a means for setting a maximum upload speed to the ftp server would be appreciated, as my broadband has slow upload and this app often hogs it—VOIP service is interrupted during these times. Thanks, Ben!

Great iOS app for Security Spy!

The main program just gets better and better. That they’ve put out an app ties it up nicely for me as the only security camera solution. Thanks!

Fantastic App - could use a few enhancements

Would like the ability to use the last opened Multiplex screen as the starting screen when I open SecuritySpy

Remember, this is just a viewer

I've used Security Spy to protect my house for about 8 years, with no problems whatsoever. It's stable, and the developer continues to make incremental improvements and updates. Unlike "point and shoot" consumer products, this program allows a wide range of controls over video streaming and recording formats. The downside is that if you're like me you're going to fiddle around and make things worse while you're getting your at-home degree in video engineering!

This iOS app is simply a handy way to check your cameras in real time, and to view or download whatever recordings Security Spy has made. I suspect most of the problems other reviewers have encountered are from bandwidth limitations, the limited graphics capabilities of older iPads, or simply asking too much from this accessory. If one needs remote access to the full capabilities of Security Spy, use a Remote Desktop solution, of which there are many.

Audio button is appreciated

Ben, thanks for adding the audio button. It makes quickly checking something way less distracting. A small but genuine quality of life improvement.

Great NVR Software for MAC

I have been using Security Spy for years. First Class support and solid, intuitive software make video security very doable. Stand alone NVRs don’t even come close. Especially with memory cards getting larger and prices more reasonable, it is now possible to store large amounts of 4K video on SSD.

10yr SS veteran. Fantastic

I use the AppleTV app every day. The back end and the front end are rock solid for me. In over 10 years I think SS on Mac has only crashed three times. The ATV version recently got an update where the streamed videos look much better on my 4K TV’s. Thank you Ben. I will always be a loyal customer. Motion detection could use some tweaking but headlights are always going to be trouble I suppose.

Hands-Down Best Security Camera Software For Mac!

Yes, the IOS version of this app was released about five years ago and initially had some issues, of course, which have long been corrected. I have used the MacOS version for about 10 years and rank it among the best for support, innovation and reliability. Ben’s personal commitment to this product is beyond any reasonable expectation. I have 12 cameras recording 24/7 with both vehicle and human motion detection to alert me of unexpected approaches. If I have an issue, Ben’s personal response is prompt and courteous. Problems admittedly were my fault for not reading the very clearly written user manual!

Probably my most important app

Been using this app app and the desktop version for several years. Features and usability are excellent. Reliability and speed (important!) exceed any reasonable expectation. Support is prompt and friendly, often from Ben personally. It doesn’t get much better than this, folks.
