The App I Didn’t Know I Needed
Right out of college, newly engaged, with a new job and new rent, all while trying to juggle different subscription sources—my life has somewhat become organized chaos. haha I like to believe I am a pretty organized person, but it truly just adds up. Next thing you know you’re over-drafted because you forgot about a payment or you’re low on money because you weren’t tracking your spending very well. I have only had this app for a day and I already feel stress relief from knowing all of my accounts and spending are in ONE location. And on top of that I can start budgeting and holding myself accountable (my fiancé is already happy I got the app and she is going to download it as well). A buddy of mine was utilizing something similar, but for something like $90/yr. This app is not only extremely beneficial, but also 110% worth it for the price you pay ($35/yr or $5/mo ?? wow OKAY Truebill). I honestly can’t wait to start using it and really getting accompanied to being smart with my finances.
First of all the app kept loosing its connection with my bank account. I tried to get the app and my account rekindled several times. After loosing the link between the two a 5th time. I just removed the rest of my accounts that were linked...or so I thought. This month I received a notification from truebill that they negotiated with Verizon on my behalf and saved me $75. That was great! But, I thought they had no access to my account because I’d deleted it. Plus, how could they pay themselves $30 from my account if it was no longer linked! Not only that, after speaking with Verizon they negotiated a new contract on a phone that has had suspended service since December 2017. This renogitiated a new contract on a phone I had lost and didn’t replace, but still had a balance that I was paying on because I owed for the purchase of the new phone. On top of that, this phone was paid off and totally deactivated/removed from my account in Nov 3018. Both TRUEBILL & VERIZON are at fault! At this point TRUEBILL COST ME MONEY rather than saved by adding a contract to a line no longer viable to the tune of at the end of the one year contract on a deactivated phone of around $240. I’m responsible to pay on a contract for a deactivated phone, PLUS THE $30 they paid themselves. So, now I’m out of pocket $270! Will Truebill return my $30 for the fiasco I’ve had to clean up! Stay tuned!
Not sure what to think
I’m not quite sure what to think about the app yet - on one hand, I really like the interface of the app and the features it has. The potential to add my various accounts and have a “quick look” at my upcoming bills is nice, other apps do this too but the layout within this app is one of the better ones. However... I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if there’s a glitch or what, but even after linking my Comcast account the app is displaying the incorrect amount for my next bill; I tried unlinking and relinking it but no change. Also, I can’t link my Verizon account! It comes up as letting me add it for the “bill negotiation” feature (which I have absolutely no interest in) but when I try to add it under the the regular account menu it doesn’t even come up in the search (the only Verizon item that comes up is “Verizon Benefit Connect”). I want to like this app and give it a go with the premium features but these things that should be simple fixes seem overly complicated and on top of that it seems that the customer service is non existent (I used the in-app chat and got a response that they would be back after 30 minutes but several hours and follow up messages later, still nothing). So - not impressed at this point.
Don’t opt for the discounted bill service they offer!
I set up my account with them and requested to have my bill lowered through their service and it was all a lie. They told me they would lower my monthly bill while keeping my same phone service quality but they in fact lowered my phone service quality to achieve my lowered monthly bill and then charged me for doing so. After I fixed the mess they did, I asked them for a refund and they said they couldn’t do so because they had done their part of the service. I got in contact with an AT&T representative who told me that all true bill did was lower my phone quality to achieve a lower phone bill and when I contacted their support team about it, no one responded to me for months. When i finally got a response they told me I was wrong and that there was nothing they could do. I had to send them screenshots of my AT&T phone bill and statements from my AT&T phone bill showing exactly what they had done and how it affected my service until they finally gave me my refund. It wasn’t the money, it was the principal. They promised something and when they didn’t fall through with their promise they denied it. The amount of the refund wasn’t the problem. The problem was that they were shady and untrue to their word. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet, please don’t. Save your time.
Great! (With one bug.)
This app is clear and easy to use. I might say it’s perfect, so long as you don’t have the expectation that the developers know your personal life in and out. All functions are fairly clear and simple. The icons are robust and make sense even for text-averse individuals and allow for quick understanding and navigation. Side note: I’m only reviewing for the free version, though I do think it’s dumb to exclude like 3 categories for your spending unless you pay extra. Like you can’t mark something as a legal fee? Why? Anyway, no biggie. I don’t have many of those expenses. But I’m confused because I downloaded this app to get ahold of my recurring fees and subscriptions. Now, while these things are easy to find under the Spending tab, there’s a nice neat tab specifically labeled “Recurring” and so far, all this tab does is reliably freeze my app. Obviously a bug, I’m not sure if this is specific to my experience or this will just be fixed with an upgrade. If this feature worked I would seriously consider the premium version of the app. Hope it gets fixed soon!
Impressive Customer Service
Truebill has negotiated two bills for me so far, saving me $35 on a cell phone bill and $15/month for a year on my cable bill. Initially, I was advised that the cable bill savings would be $60/month for a year, and charged ($288) accordingly. However, after 3 billing cycles, the discount wasn’t applied. I was very worried that I wouldn’t be able to reach anyone to assist me and I would be out the money I paid, however, that is far from what happened. I received a response via email to my inquiry/issue within a few hours and had no issues at all getting a discount applied to my cable bill, and get the difference in charges ($216) refunded. The agent was so helpful that I requested she forward my feedback to her supervisor, who also reached out to me just to say thank you. I am so impressed with this company and look forward to them saving me additional money in the future! Thank you Truebill, and a special thank you to Saleema and Turhan!
First impressions I really like this app it is so helpful keeping everything organized and knowing exactly when everything is due. I love the feature where it shows how much cash you have on hand then why your net cash is after everything is paid that month that is my favorite to make sure you stay in budget and have enough money. I also love how you don’t have to link a million accounts manually you simply enter you bank info and it automatically acquires all subscriptions, bills, payments and payment date you don’t have to do a single thing. In short the app is a god sent. Really the only negative I see is if you have them negotiate a bill and they succeed I don’t like how you have to pay them there 40% right away up front. I wish they got the money monthly when you make your regular payments. Besides that though app is great.
Absolutely predatory company! Do not let them negotiate if you don’t have money in the bank
This app started out pretty cool, the took s wrong turn in a hurry when I let them negotiate to lower my Verizon bill on my behalf. They came back and said they were successful and that they saved me 50 a month. Then said they’d be taking their years worth of commission out of my account in a couple days to the tune of $240. I argued with them saying I thought it would be monthly like all these other subscriptions, and to undue whatever they did I can’t afford it! They came back with ok we’ll take $20 a month. That wouldn’t be that bad I guess but the savings had already magically gone away from my Verizon account before they even yanked that out of my account. It seems now they want money for nothing as well as to prey on those that could use a lower bill! I will be spending significant amounts of time telling this story to anyone that’ll listen, on my website, in my business, over all social media, in a strongly worded letter to apple shaming them for relaxing their standards enough to allow this kind of scam joke shop on the App Store, and every other venue I can be heard in.
This company is a scam and a disgrace. They charge you for things that you can actually do for yourself in order to be compensated for fees or reduce a bill. Please do not think due to a lack of information that they are able to do anything for you that you can not do for yourself. They have no special connections with these companies and even if you do see improvement as others have stated in their reviews their bills late end up even the more outrageous than what they were before. I would suggest for everyone to call your creditors for yourself and ask them about lowering your bills or getting fees returned. I myself have been able to do this for years but was unaware that so many didn't know about it so when I ran across this company I thought they were offering something "different" and was sadly mistaken to say the least. The first opportunity I had, I deleted my account and have not looked back. Also, if you do not change your notification settings will be be annoyed to no end with frivolous and unnecessary emails from them mainly regarding what you probably ALREADY KNOW. I'm sure they are making a good buck off of that feature alone.
Good app, could be great
Truebill does a lot of things right. I love the layout and features they offer. Very esthetically appealing and user friendly. I don’t like that they charge a subscription fee for the premium version, but it’s only $3 per month. I wouldn’t pay more than that because many of the features are available in other apps for free but I like the look and feel of this one so I’m willing to pay a small fee. BUT A MAJOR FLAW THAT IS A DEALBREAKER FOR ME IF THEY DONT FIX SOON: the dates on the transactions are incorrect. Almost all delayed by 1-2 days from when it occurred. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. It throws off your entire budget by putting transactions from the end of the previous month into the beginning of the next month, and there is currently no way to change the date yourself. Also, I like to know exactly what dates purchases were made for my own sake. PLEASE FIX THIS SO I CAN CONTINUE TO USE THIS GREAT APP, otherwise I will probably go back to Mint
A dream come true
I have not been so excited about an app in a very long time. This app could not have come along at a better time for me. A divorce left me in a financial mess. I had just moved into a new place and was basically starting over. Truebill has allowed me to reorganize my finances and keep from being overdrawn. Because I don’t have the time needed to devote to paying bills, I often wasn’t paying them until they either called or were at my door to turn something off! Since signing up for truebill, my bills are all paid on time or even early ! Saving me all those late fees. Then to top it off, Truebill goes to to my accounts on my behalf and will negotiate a lower price and lower my bill. It’s like having an accountant reminding you of your financial obligations! I will be shouting praise for Truebill for years to come.
So I got the premium to cancel some of these prescriptions I’ve been meaning to get rid of. The very first one i clicked on it would not let me cancel. Whenever I’d click on it it would send me to a page that lets you “chat with an expert” I tried a few times with the same result. Then I went about trying to cancel my subscription and out of the three buttons to click the only button that wouldn’t let me click on was the cancel subscription button. I had to go through apple store to cancel it. Then once I had it canceled I was told that since I paid for the first month i would be able to use it till the 26 of January. So I tried to cancel the same subscription as before and this time it actually sent me to the right page but hey turns out they weren’t even able to cancel it for me 🤦🏽♂️. They gave me the number and email of the business I was trying to cancel and told me I had to cancel it myself. Stupid app. I’ve only lost $5 but after reading some reviews I hope I don’t lose more than that. Would not recommend downloading this trash app
Why did you charge me $20???
Truebill your advertising services state that this a free app and you will charge me 40% of any money’s you save me on my bills. I am perfectly fine with that, however what I’m not fine with the fact that after I signed up you charged me $20, and I do not know why. I have contacted you directly through the customer services contact link on your website, and now almost two weeks later I STILL have not received any response from you guys about this or any explanation/legitimate reason why you charged me $20. I waited two weeks before giving you this review because I wanted to give you the chance to make it right. Not responding to your customers when they have inquiries about charges on their accounts is unacceptable. If there is a legitimate reason for this, fine but it should at least be explained to me when I inquire about it. None of my bills have been lowered so why am I being charged $20? Please explain this. I’m trying to avoid doing a chargeback was my bank, but if I don’t hear back I guess that’s the route I’m going to have to take on this.
You Are Warned
I really hate to be that person, but after back and forth with their customer service I can’t help it. I’m wondering if all the positive reviews are company employees just boosting reviews. They informed me months ago that my cable bill with AT&T would be reduced by $20 per month, charging me a fee of $92. Well, months later I’m still seeing zero reduction on my bill. I brought this to the attention of customer service 11/13. I was informed 11/15 that the only bill they successfully negotiated was DirectTV. I immediately reminded them that DirectTV was owned by AT&T. I also provided proof that I was seeing $0 savings. I was informed 11/19 that they were originally told by AT&T it would be $20 savings per month but after reconfirming it’s was actually only $5 per month and would be refunding me a partial refund. Umm no... what?!? NO! I sent proof of $0 savings and you’re just going to ignore that? If there was truly savings I’m happy to pay. But this is shady AF. I am done. Once this is settled I’m out. I’ll do my own negotiating. And you, dear informed reader, have been warned. Proceed at your own risk.
App has turned awful and support never replies
This app used to be a decent finance app for keeping my monthly spending in line. My rent never showed up on the monthly bills (even though it was the most expensive and paid every month at the same time. Must have been real hard to recognize Truebill 🙄). I brought this up to support and they replied asking me how it appeared on my bank account, I replied, then they never did. After 1 month they never replied. I messaged them again and they never replied to that either. On top of that, my account has been continuously getting un-synced. I have to put my bank account info in each day to “re-sync” it (I put it in quotes because even after re-syncing it DAILY my account still showed the same amount spent each day, my monthly spent line had leveled out and stopped responding to my bank account actions). Was a great app at first but after a while it just stopped working all together, and support just doesn’t respond. Thanks for the first 2 months of a good app, but get your act together because the app is going down the drain.
