Aesthetically pleasing simulator but has many glitches

This application is really nice however has some glitches that make trading very annoying. Sometimes if you go to trade it shows that the company is at 0.00 and because of that your 10,000 you start with actually ends up going to a much lesser number based on shares literally as if the company dropped to 0.00. Although this may be annoying, it can be solved with multiple refreshes and when the reasonable amount of money comes up, then it can go back to normal. But what makes this issue a main issue is that sometimes when that happens, and by mistake you trade or sell a company then it glitches out and gives you a random number and you lose a large portion of your money. At that point I just have to re-download MarketSim and start again which is frustrating especially when a lot of progress is made. This is the only prominent issue that makes it not that great of a simulator, but if this is fixed it would make MarketSim very nice because the aesthetics of MarketSim is very pleasing and also very sleek looking.

App No longer Working!

UPDATE: as of 12 March 2020, MarketSim still does not work for me. It always crashes within mere seconds of opening MarketSim . If there is any support team that is able to help, it would be much appreciated! I had bought the ad free version a good while back, but now can’t even use it! It has been like this since July of last year for me. I don’t mind starting over, but I don’t want to lose my watch list. Please help!

Since 3 July 2019 all the way up until today, 10 July 2019, MarketSim has completely stopped working for me. It’s not that I can’t buy or sell; it’s that I can’t even open MarketSim ! As soon as I open MarketSim , it almost immediately crashes, usually within a half second, sometimes lasting as long as two seconds. I cannot do anything about this and my balance was ~$130,000. I really don’t want to have to start over just in trying to troubleshoot MarketSim ! Please fix this, I’ve never had a problem with MarketSim crashing other than maybe a couple random times up until July 3rd. Superseding that date, MarketSim has been fully non-functional. I have an iPhone 8.

Account balance from $8,000+ to everything being $0.00(now sitting on 6mil+)

I opened my account to hop on SOS and it wouldnt let me buy any stocks bc all my shares dropped to $0.00 along with my account balance i hope this is just a glitch that will fix soon. UPDATE: I'm now sitting on $6,359,156 all done by consistently trading high volatility stocks like TKAT, RHE, LEDS and EEIQ (just some examples) what i hate though is the delay... sometimes itll be on time but you have to constantly refresh its definitely not live paper money trading... and usually near the end of the trading day around 2:45-4 pm it becomes sooo lagged behind the actual market... there is no candlestick charts AND no graph for your portfolio, my gains are insane after all and id like to see them pictured on a graph... cmon this app youve been on MarketSim store forever let the ppl see a portfolio graph

Great! Except two things.

I love MarketSim , it’s great for someone like me who hasn’t put any real money into stocks and is just learning how it all works. The only two things I don’t like about MarketSim is the delay. I have another Live stock app that shows everything as it’s changing and that’s great and all but MarketSim doesn’t update live so that’s a bummer. The other thing is that it’s not very informative about the stocks. If you want to buy a share or even just look at a company you have to know exactly which company you want and search for that. What I mean by that is theirs no browse section. I just think that would be helpful. But don’t get me wrong I love MarketSim and I’m going to keep using it, it would just make it better if it was live and had a browse section.

Great App - Until I bought Nvidia

MarketSim was fantastic!! I’m not 18 yet, so I wanted to get a little experience in the “market” before I actually bought stock. MarketSim did exactly what I wanted for so long! I was so excited to use MarketSim every time I opened it. However, a few days ago I bought one Nvidia stock. At first, it was fine, completely normal. Then the next day, I checked it and saw I was up $2,500 in a day. I checked through all the stocks and it just didn’t add up. the day after that, I was up $10,000 in a day. Then I saw it. Somehow, I was being randomly given dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of Nvidia stock. for no reason. Right now I am sitting on like $10,000,000 because of this glitch. Now I need to delete MarketSim , reinstall, and start all over. I wish they fixed the Nvidia glitch!

Simple with Potential

MarketSim is simple and fun, and lets you do a risk-free run at the stock market with 10,000 fictitious dollar. However, the one critical feature that restricts MarketSim from reaching it potential and me enjoying it as much as I could, is the lack of a return summary in the Account Page. For example, how much of a percentage and dollar return per stock you have earned since the initial purchase. The way MarketSim is currently constructed is that you’d have to do the math for cumulative returns per stock. Henry, if you are seeing this, your app is almost where it needs to be, and I could see a lot of my work friends using it with this additional critical feature. From my limited review of what’s on MarketSim Store, this is the best US-based stock simulation app available.

Solid app. Does what it says. Ads. Not a lot of stocks.

MarketSim is a great and functional market simulator, just as described. The only things that I find kinda weird about the actual simulator is that unlike a real stock app, it doesnt give you a lot of info about the stock, and you cant buy after hours at all, whereas on the real stuff you can often buy after hours for an extra fee if I understand it correctly. MarketSim gets a little annoying with the ads, oftentimes every time you make a buy or a sell, but they gotta make money somehow on a fake stock market right? Only other thing thats weird is it doesnt have a lot of stocks to simulate, especially stocks from "smaller" companies.

Problematic

I really liked MarketSim at first but I have two major complaints. First, there is no live update so you have to continually swipe down to update the price of the stocks. That isn’t so bad but if something changed and you didn’t update it, when you try to sell you could lose some. That gets really annoying. The second thing is, MarketSim has started glitching badly for me. I would try to sell a stock and it would suddenly jump to $0.00 for the value of the stock and I would lose thousands even though the stock in reality was still at the current market price. I don’t know why it does this but it was really frustrating to try to make a sale that would have resulted in a profit but because MarketSim suddenly said the stock was worth zero dollars I instead lost several thousand. This makes it almost worthless. If MarketSim is fixed it would be excellent.

App no longer works

I used MarketSim for months without any issues, but recently the search function stopped working. If I can’t search for stocks, then I can’t buy them, so now I’m not using MarketSim at all. I looked for a way to contact customer support but haven’t found anything. The customer support link in MarketSim Store leads to a Twitter profile, not an actual way to get assistance. I hope they fix the search function. this app is useful when you’re still learning to invest and want to play around without taking big risks. I was using MarketSim to see how I do at picking stocks without losing any real money. It was fun and was helping me to become more comfortable with the process. I am very risk averse and am still learning to trust my own judgment. It’s great for that!

Added feature

I like the way MarketSim works as intended.

A suggestion would be to be able to change the per share price. I would like to know how much money I would have made if I had bought a stock sooner in its life. It is a bit of getting to use hindsight to see how much money would’ve been made if I had bought the stock earlier in its life, or, when the price took a dip. The other thing I could use this feature for is to see how my stocks are doing compared to the current market price without logging into my real account and keeping that active on my phone.
Thanks for listening

Still buggy

I downloaded MarketSim in October and it worked perfectly. Now I’ve noticed the graphs are not accurately reporting values and dates. I believe the 10 day chart shows dates out of order even! I also wasn’t pleased I couldn’t set my starting amount. The other major flaws I noticed once I started trading for real were the lingo (Bid/Ask vs Sell/Buy), the ways to buy and sell (market, limit, etc), and warnings for violating basic rules (PDT, wash sale). If you’re labeled a PDT you need $25k, to avoid this you can only do 3 trades in 5 business days!
My favorite part of MarketSim is the graphs simplistic plot. I still use MarketSim just for that. Please fix the bugs with the graphs.

Weird Stock Switch Glitches

I have been using MarketSim for a month or so now and I have come to a problem that shows profits, when I received none. Unlike Best Brokers, this has US accurate stock prices and is the best for that, but it has a few problems. When I bought Tesla, I purchased 3 and then 2 later. I sold all 5 later when it was higher, but it sold as 2x 5 or 10 stocks, leading to profits around $2,500. But in turn for gaining 5 of these high priced stocks I lost 5 stocks from Chevron(which I had 35). These were lower valued and didn’t impact my portfolio much. Please fix this problem as it has made my portfolio unfair comparatively to other friends that have MarketSim. Thank you very much.

Mixed emotion

First I’d like to note that MarketSim is wonderfully simple. Although it’s a bit late on the true prices, which kind of throws me off but allows a play if you can correlate the buy and sell based on the current price on an updated app, not sure how one would go about fixing that. I have also noticed the bug that other users reported, the update bug that would sometimes deplete your current balance. Upon a few swipes to update that usually is fixed.

Maybe add limit buy&sell?
From the initial $10k you’re given I’m at $669,406. :)

Prices Freeze

The only two issues I have with MarketSim are that prices randomly freeze for several minutes straight, meaning you can’t buy or sell which is a pretty big problem. I cannot stress enough how FRUSTRATING it is when you watch prices tank before your eyes and you can’t get out because you can’t sell. The other thing is that when you pull up the buy/sell menu, you buy at whatever the price was when you pulled the menu up, not whatever the real time trading price is. This makes it extremely hard to trade accurately if you cant type at light speed, and all too easy to cheat.

Genius

MarketSim is amazing for people looking to get interested in the stock market. I got MarketSim and showed it to all of my friends at school after a day or so and now all of the boys in my class constantly check their stocks every 5 minutes. We even started a competition out of it where we delete MarketSim every weekend , and then every monday everyone puts in a dollar and whoever has the most money by the market close on Friday wins the pot.

MarketNotReallySim

MarketSim is totally cool, but I was wanting something more realistic (for me, at least). Since there is no competitive aspect of this game, you should be able to PICK YOUR STARTING CASH! For all those 14 year-olds who want to prove to their parents that they CAN INDEED make a profit from the stock market! This is a SIMULATOR, NOT a GAME! There should be a slider to choose your starting cash. It should be from 1$ to $10,000 (for the people who DO compete...). That is the only reason I’m holding that 1 star back from this review. Otherwise, MarketSim is truly amazing but needs a few improvements.

Can improve

this app serves its purpose as a stock simulator well but can definitely improve some of its aspects.

Building on the observations of other reviewers, the fact that there is no live update can be somewhat tedious as users are forced to manually reload.

My thoughts to improve MarketSim are the following. I believe that the inclusion of different types of orders may be helpful to users and improve the simulation aspect of MarketSim . These different types of orders include stop loss and trailing options for selling and limits etc for buying.

It would also be beneficial to include more data about stocks, including beta, 52 week range, dividend, etc. This data could be imported from Yahoo Finance or NASDAQ.

Perhaps (crypto)currencies can also be added as investment options to enhance the simulated portfolios.

However, MarketSim is still very helpful in allowing users to freely play around with the market. Please consider the above improvements to make MarketSim even better.

Not Displaying Accurate Price Updates

I installed MarketSim and worked great for a week or so. I opened a few days ago and it showed the price for many stocks were $0.00. I tried to refresh the page by swiping down and a new summary kept showing every time I swiped. Different combos if pricing each time - some would show 0.00 and then after the next swipe would show a price - swipe again and maybe show 0.00 again - also the block colors would change from red to green. Something seems out of sync. Cool app though.

Great app, but stock splits.

Great app, I’ve been using this app for a while when I noticed a dramatic $6000 loss on my account. Turns out it was from my Tesla stock in which I owned 4 shares in. From my research I deduced that it was due to a 5:1 stock split meaning my shares should’ve multiplied by 5 to maintain the valuation. Sadly they did not. Without the ability to modify my share amount based on the change, this sim was basically dead. It’s a shame, I wish I could rate MarketSim higher, but that kind of development is fairly simple and without it it basically kills it. If they were able to adjust to splits I would give MarketSim 4 stars, but it doesn’t, so it’s a 1.

MarketSim=dope

MarketSim is hella cool and I use it everyday and has helped me get better at understanding the market but the only thing that needs to be added is cryptocurrency. I wish u could trade bitcoin and ETH and and litecoin because all the other crypto sims are really bad and not real time market value. Like they say real time market in the description but when u download it it’s completely different from what it’s really at. PLEASE ADD CRYPTOS

Crypto

I really like MarketSim, it easy to use and fun too, but I have two major complaints. I wish it had cryptocurrency and I wish viewing it was more like apple stocks where it has news at the bottom. There may be a way to invest in crypto and I’m just unable to find it, and if there is one added or I find it then I will gladly give it five stars, I can get past the viewing experience because it is very sleek with no news and I can just use Robinhood or WSJ or Apple Stocks.

Question!

I’m pretty new learning about the stock market and how it works. MarketSim is rather simple but I have one question regarding the $10,000 we start off with. After purchasing stocks in 14 companies I was left with $24 left from the original 10K. The question i have is the big number at the very top says “$9,984,” what does this number represent? Sorry for the newbie question.

By

simple & great but no cigar

first off I would like to say MarketSim is very aesthetically pleasing. you start off with 10k with no risk it’s perfect, it has all the stocks you can think of. although, I would like to sell stocks and view its graph on the microscopic level and zoom in on it. MarketSim can get somewhere but it just needs more improvement.

Should lose money when you buy shares

This is a great idea for an app and it has a sleek design and is well run. When i got it i thought it meant you start off with 10k to buy shares with and then you watch your leftover money grow as your stocks rise or fall. Also, on the main page it should show the status of the stocks like how much they have gained or lost, but aside from that it’s a good app.

Overall, solid

Sometimes I have had it crash every time I open a stock I REALLY want to buy, but overall, this is a great sim. It starts you with 10,000 and let’s you buy pretty much anything. Every ticker for the most part is present. I’ve made it to $22,000 in a month, making moves way too risky for real life
