Look elsewhere, this one is a dud.

I invested 4-5 day’s journaling with Journo. I liked the interface even though I could only add one photo at a time to my entries (slow and frustrating, but not a show-stopper). Half way through my trip, Journo started freezing up - would not let me edit or make new entries- and eventually, once I got more than a blank screen with a spinning ‘loading’ data wheel, it started throwing up server error messages.

Now I have to recreate my journal entries and could not be more frustrated with Journo . Look elsewhere. This one is a dud.

It Quit Working

I did a quick look at 3 or 4 journaling apps before settling on this app. Because we were on our way out the door, my main criteria was could I use it intuitively. It worked well, until it didn’t. I wanted to use it both for keeping friends and family informed of how our trip was going and as a keepsake for myself after the trip was over. Before it quit working, the problems I had were:

(1) I could only insert one photo at a time,

(2) The edit button doesn’t float and is only available at the top of the screen so if you spot an error late in your day’s entries, you have to scroll up to the top to click Edit and then scroll back to spot to make the edit.

(3) When being viewed on the website, the user has to scroll through your entire trip to see the latest entry, but in Journo , the current day is on top

(4) On day 16 of our 21 day trip, the website quit working and wouldn’t display anymore of our trip.

I emailed customer service multiple times and was told they would get back to me shortly. Other than the “we’ll get back to you” emails I’ve never received a response from them. Our trip was in July and it’s now September and still nothing from them. I love this method of journaling but will look for another app. I’ve screen captured my this app journal and have deleted Journo so I’m not paying $6.99 a month for an app that isn’t working.

Fails after a month of travel

I wrote a previous review speaking of some issues but mostly positive. Now we have not been able to receive any posts from our daughter for over a month, and while the developers are quick to reach out to you, the fixes continually promised to both her and her family members, 'next week', have not materialized. She has another month of travel ahead and i don't expect it to ever work.

So, short summary: worked well for a couple of weeks, then started to have problems, then failed completely.

Work in Progress

I love the idea and look/feel of what I can create with Journo, but it has a long way to go before it’s not frustrating to use. Writing entries from my iPhone 11 is clumsy at best
- photos always insert at the bottom so I have to cut/paste any text that I already wrote
- selecting my text to cut and paste has a huge lag
- my videos that have an edited length to be shorter post with the entire length of the original video
- if i set my text formatting and switch back to the keyboard, sometimes the default formatting is back, so I end up typing first and then selecting the text (which I mentioned before is a pain) and then formatting.
- the spacing I see on Journo is not what I see when I test the web URL. Example - if I have a one line space between consecutive photos in my app, on the webpage, I see no spacing between my photos

I really love that I can write on the go from my phone, but would also love the option to edit from a laptop as I can type much faster, but maybe this would be less of a want if Journo worked more smoothly.

Bottom line - not sure I’m willing to pay for this ... yet.

App was good, support not so much

I had fun with Journo in the beginning. Then was a bit of a pause due to Covid related limitations. As I finally get a chance to travel and use Journo … I ran into an issue. I had used Facebook to log in. But with all the hate, I decided to end my Facebook account. Well I now find out I can’t log into my this app account… after I paid for a lifetime membership. I did attempt to reach out, but no response has come. So I guess I’m out of luck.

Missing..

When I found Journo I thought I was downloading an app that would connect me with other people that also loved traveling. But it seems like that’s not how it really works. You have to add friends that you already have. I was expecting to meet some new people and publish my adventures to the unknown :) I can just use facebook to upload my photos to my already existing friends. I have to admit that it is really user friendly and a clean looking app. It’s just not what it seemed to be. A way to connect other fellow travelers.

Rating based solely on pricing

When I came across Journo I was very intrigued. I downloaded it and the first screen I was met with was the sign-up screen which I didn’t do because I didn’t fully understand it and I wanted to research it a little bit more by going online to the website.

One of the first things I noticed was the pricing so, just out of curiosity, I clicked on it to see what features might be available for a free account. I was very dismayed to find it there was no such thing as a free account. I understand a organization needs to make money, however a limited function free account may draw more people into purchasing the service to get full functionality. $12 per month is a little outside of my budget and sadly I can’t speak on the usability of Journo as it it pertains to the price because 14 day trial, in my opinion, is insufficient to get a full feel of what appears to be a very detailed and in-depth app. So my suggestions to the developer is to consider a free account that is very limited and tease with the more sophisticated features.

Almost there

Journo is so close to being perfect. The overall layout is eye catching and appealing. I love being able to tell a story and inserting photos and videos where they work. However, Journo has quite a few frustrations which cause me to think long and hard before I pay to subscribe. There needs to be the ability to add more than one photo at a time. Adding images is cumbersome and takes too long. My biggest pet peeve is not being able to timestamp my entries. I’ve reached out to support twice and received no answer back. It’s not a huge deal unless you want to create multiple entries for the same day. The map function doesn’t work and neither does the blogging function because the entries are not in the order they should be. I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix it other than opening up my entries, changing something and saving them. Way too time consuming.

If this was free, I would live with it. I can’t justify paying seven dollars a month or purchasing a lifetime membership with these issues still looming.

Support...please reach out and tell me how to work around the time stamp issue. I want to love Journo!

Could use some improvements

Overall, it’s a fairly easy app to use, but I would love to have more creative options in designing my posts, the layouts are pretty plain. My biggest complaint is that you can’t have anyone comment on your posts! Also, I really want to be able to work on/edit a post without having it go live immediately. Sometimes, you need to stop and come back at a later time. This isn’t possible unless you take your ENTIRE journal offline and then put it back on. One last suggestion, when writing a shared journal, it would be nice to see who was posting it at the beginning of the post instead of having to read the entire post to find out who was writing it.

So far so good!

I've been testing many travel apps. This was the first one I've been able to use immediately based on the easy interface and obvious icons. They prompted me for this review a bit early, though. Still trying to re-size a photo, and I can't seem to make the maps function work properly, but overall this seems great and I'm excited to use it on my upcoming trips.

Good but can be better - here’s how

Great concept and done pretty well. Absolutely needs the following: (1) ability to invite co-travelers and allow collaboration. (2) ability to edit dates so you can post an event that took place last night or on any prior date. (3) show pictures of friends when you search for them. Other than that, this is pretty solid.

Made me re-love writing

The art style and the overall presentation of Journo made me really appreciate being able to put thought to forum. I have always enjoyed writing but I fell out of practice a bit as some of my passions died to some necessities of life. The combination of writing and traveling, two things which every person should strive to do if within their financial ability, made me rediscover the wonder of writing. I am grateful.

Everything I Was Hoping It Would Be!

Do you know how you download an app and then when you try it you immediately delete it? I did that with two other apps before finding this one. If you are serious about wanting to journal your travels anywhere in the world, this is the one to get. If you love to take pictures and share them with your friends, this is the one to get. If you want to seamlessly integrate your journal with your social media accounts, this is the one to get.

Exactly what I’ve been needing!

Love Journo! I’ve always wanted a place to put photos and travel journal entries in one place, so my memories are cohesive. Journo is easy to use and can even be published for all to see, if a public travel blog is what you’re looking for. I was even able to put in past entries and back date it, so I could have my recent big trip in with my current ones. On top of all that, the customer service is above and beyond friendly and helpful. So glad I made this purchase!

Adventure Journaling made easy!

I have been testing a couple other journal apps, and this one won me over by having video, and having a “website” I can send to family & friends to follow my journey without having to download an app. The “like” feature was important so I know they’re reading it. I’m all about paying for something well made & useful without advertisements. Customer service is outstanding as well.

Other apps I tried I was having some issues with photos not showing, limitations on the amount of photos as well. Just not my cup of tea. This one seems to be a perfect fit for me.

Delighted to have preserved our trip and shared it with friends

Last year we took a seven week trip to Europe. I was able to record and share our daily adventures including photos with friends and family. I plan to start another this app journal for our 2019 summer adventures. We received a lot of positive feedback from all those who followed our travel thru this app.

Love love love this app

I travel a lot and wanted a way to track memories better. I used to use Yelp to remember restaurants/bars and photos that I painstakingly organized by trip. But no way to track my thoughts. Journo does it all!

And so easy to use. I tried three and this is by far the easiest and fastest way to get the journaling going.

So - for those of you who may be put off by the price, don’t be. The monthly subscription is less than a glass of wine and the life time is a good steak dinner. This is what I always tell myself when I splurge on something that I normally would not do. I am so enjoying this journal!

So thank you!

I love this app

I used Journo on a three week Mediterranean cruise. I found it very easy to use and I am thrilled with being able to record my adventure with this app . Another cruise is right around the corner for me and I am looking forward to recording the next one and every other trip I take with Journo.

Great travel blog, but!!!

I have found Journo to be excellent when it comes to recording your thoughts, activities, and photos and geo-markers along the way. My issue to date is getting any kind of print out from my trip. I have some support contact, but no solutions yet.
*Update! The issues I had have been resolved, thanks to the support staff and some time to update fixes. I fully recommend this app for those that want to record travels in both real time and end of trip editing. Great for geo-location pictures and time stamps, which is a must to keep order in story organization.

Awesomeness

I write a travel blog and this app is awesomeness incarnate! Instead of using multiple apps I can accomplish more with this app in half the time. Its sleek and does Maps, photos, videos and drawings. I can share individually or over social media. It even has a publishing feature if I decide to print a hard copy. this app Exclusives has suggestions about writing formats in case I’m blocked. I’ve been using the Mapbox to display my journeys on social media! Cropping maps is child’s play. I have a business trip planned for the Philippine next month and this app has a handy Currency Converter which is gonna be really really helpful. this app is on a monthly fee schedule, but for me its was well worth the purchase.
