Really good

The interface is easy to use and simple, but the functionality is very flexible. Each this app can track counts or decimal numbers and they are automatically tracked over time. Combined with automatic resets of each count per day, month or year, Tally makes it very easy to see progress towards goals and serves as a reminder and log about when activities were last done. I have some small complaints: 1. there seems to be no way to export the data. There are numerous reasons why one might want to do this — to save local backups and to easily input information from Tally into other programs are examples. 2. The “group” feature is nice but seems not well-integrated into the user interface. The option to display tallies under common group headings and sort within groups would clean up the interface and make it easier to find each this app. Currently, all tallies are displayed on the home page with no visual separation other than color, and groups seem to only control which tallies are on or off. 3. The links to the feedback and support websites are broken within Tally . This makes it seem like Tally is no longer supported.

Update: Version 1.22.0 adds support for backup to Dropbox and iCloud, which addresses my original complaint.

Something has gone awry

I've used this app for going on two years and until recently it was there best counter/tracking app I've found. Siri shortcuts, great widget (the original kind), and a simple interface with tons of customization and options. And such fast communication from the developer and support! Usually I test an app for awhile but with this one I immediately purchased the premium upgrade (I should note that this was back when it was sold for a one-time payment). So why the low score?

Last week everything reset. My counts are still there but all the premium features are gone, the old style widget disappeared, my settings were a mess, and it won't even reset the daily counts at midnight unless you force close and restart Tally . I've tried reaching out to customer support but can't get a response. Before this I would have said Tally is worth far more than 5 stars. My problem is that this is a big issue and I haven't been able to get any help. Being able to get support when there's a problem is as important to me as the functionality and features of Tally itself. Right now the support is lacking and the functionality I've come to expect has been severely impacted. I earnestly hope this is just a glitch or mistake that can be rectified because Tally itself is truly remarkable and I haven't found anything out there that compares.

Updates constantly ruin this app - I’m done ✌️

Don’t bother with Tally, and definitely don’t pay for a subscription, unless you enjoy losing features without warning and constantly being frustrated with what should be a basic, dependable app. I tried relying on Tally for a year but updates for “bug fixes and performance improvements” constantly wipe away beloved and important features and the time stamps are not always accurate (and non-existent if you want to mark a this app after midnight for that day). The latest update no longer allows you to simply click on a this app to add to its count - kinda the whole point of Tally . Now instead you have to manually type in the number of tallies you want to add. Previous updates removed the ability to add notes when creating a new this app (like for instructions) and the ability customize the time your day begins/ends. Other updates have also deleted entire this app histories, the ability to sort your tallies in a custom order, shortened the allotted this app title length, among others (features which were later restored after many customer complaints but never should have disappeared in the first place). I used Tally to track medication but can’t rely on it and I shouldn’t be frustrated with a basic app who’s sole purpose is counting. I gave it nearly a year of chances but finally cancelled my subscription for another app I can actually trust and count on 😉

A lifesaver

I’m sitting in the hospital. I’m trying to track a lot of details. I use this app to track how much pain medicine I get , when I walk, when I change my bandage. Keeping accurate data like this enables me to get insight into what is working and why things are happening. It helps me comply with the doctor’s orders and learn more. This way I can be a more engaged patient and share some responsibility for my care. When I go home, I will have to do many of these things myself for several weeks. I can’t just lay around and wait for a nurse to do things and ensure they are done properly. I really want to heal from my surgery. So I want to track everything I am supposed to do. Tally has just the right balance of features like notes, time stamps, target goals, and more. I tried it during my first surgery 3 months ago. I used it a little. But I felt clumsy. But the second time now and I’m a pro at figuring out what to track and how. So be patient with yourself as you learn it. You may not learn all the features at once.
It’s obviously good for other uses. This is just my use. And I feel so much more in control of my care.

Cost of subscription is ridiculous

I like Tally. Clean, easy interface, great sounds, nice tracking stats. I wish there were a couple of additional features - like specifying the decimal places in a custom this app (why have two decimals if I’m just adding a .5 this app each time?), and the ability to set both good AND bad goals - tallies you want to reach and tallies you want to stay below - with different sounds/graphics (one good type and one bad type) that play if you reach the goal.

My main gripe is the cost of Tally. $30 for premium? Per year?? Come on. This is a glorified counter with some basic data frequency tracking and visualization. It should be a single payment of $3, max. For $30 per year, I expect to be getting new content regularly or at least some interaction with a snazzy AI.

I’d even be happy with in-app purchases in the free version. Like, say I’m using the 3 free counters and I want a fourth; I’d consider paying $.99 for an additional counter. But a renewing subscription for Tally is ridiculous.

The Ultimate App

I started on my personal mastery journey in 2019. I wanted to do so much, improve on so many fronts and give up so many things that it all started getting overwhelming. So I started my search to simplify things without giving up on them. On the digital front, after trying out more than a dozen apps, I went all out with this app.

I used it to track habits that I wanted to create, to health metrics I wanted to track, to my wheel of life, to mood data (a total of 75 metrics). What gets measured gets managed. I analyzed my data on Tally , exported it to do regressions, and have improved ever since every month. And I believe this app (and Done) has played a major part in my transformation.

And then the update came along 2 weeks ago. The interface has changed, I don’t like it personally but I could understand this is the aesthetic direction the developer wishes to take. But data is now difficult to log, data entered tends to disappear, data is doubled in some instances, I can no longer find an export option, the statistics section does not correlate with the group currently open and the statistics section is too bulky to analyze in detail. Tally was a 5 star for me. I really don’t want to go through the process of switching over everything to another app so I am hoping that this app understands not all changes are good and it’s alright to step back some times.

Had problems at first but now I love it

I used the free version for a couple weeks but then upgraded for the one time 3.99 fee. I’ve used other goal tracking apps with varying success, but I really like the simple, straightforward nature of this. I choose a goal like eating three servings of produce a day, and I can check my progress each day. You can set it to reset everyday, week, month, year, or never, whatever makes most sense for your goal. When I had a problem I emailed the developers and got an almost immediate response that helped me solve the problem. I find this motivating but not annoying or stressful like some goal setting things I’ve tried. I’ve heard that where performance is measured, performance improves. Tally helps me keep track of my performance and progress in things that are important to me. Love it!

Awesome App!!!

I love Tally. I have always known I need to track my habits and am working on several habit changes right now. I love how convenient this is to use and super user friendly. So far I have been able to do everything I want to on it. The best part is I can see how different habits impact each other. For example, I am working on doing yoga, improving my sleep and eating better. I am rating my quality of sleep using the custom input this app and see that my sleep quality is much better when I do restorative yoga right before bed. Plus I love being able to track habits I am trying to eliminate as well as ones I want to do more of. Less caffeine and processed sugar, more anti-inflammatory meals. This is awesome!

Not working on Apple Watch

Any plan to fix the Apple Watch version? It used to be a complication that could be added to a watch face but not anymore. It also used to be possible to keep track on the watch but not anymore.

Old review:
I've enjoyed Tally and paid for the premium features, but it has always been a little buggy on Apple Watch, which is where I primarily use this app. After the most recent major update, it no longer works on Apple Watch. It syncs with the phone properly, but otherwise Tally is "dead" on Apple Watch. I can no longer keep track of tallies on my watch; I must enter everything on my iPhone. This is not always practical because when I exercise and do a variety of other activities, I don't typically have my phone with me, but I always have my watch. Please fix this! Thanks.

Terrible useless app used to be essential

I cannot believe what the developers did to Tally! Was a loyal Pro user and now they’ve gotten greedy and gone subscription while charging the big bucks to Pro users and ruining what was a great app. Best feature was exporting to CSV and now that’s gone. Have lost years of data now, trapped. App performance is terrible and laggy. My defaults were changed. The fonts are hard to read. Don’t like the blue background in dark mode. Some of my notes are out of chronological order. The graphs are hard to read. User experience and GUI are now very much trial and error as I stumble about trying to figure out how to do things. Dont download this piece of crap. This was one of my most used apps and I recommended it to many friends for its many features but I will recommend no longer. Time to start typing data in a spreadsheet, folks!

Lime it but there are quirks

I really like Tally because it's simple but there are a few issues. When you are first on a new day in the morning, everything is blank. At some point, I've not yet determined when yet, the last time you counted a block will show up. I emailed support and it's been a week with no answer as to why this is.

Also, today, all of my blocks changed from being able to tap and add one to tapping and adding a custom value. That's not how they were set up. So I had to go into each block and change them all back to tap to add default value instead of custom. That was annoying as I use Tally daily.

Thanks for creating this, though. It's simple and effective. Just needs a few kinks worked out.

Great all around app

So simple and efficient. The 6.99 upgrade for unlimited tallies is so worth it. Just got it and already love it. It’s exactly what I was looking for, super straightforward with zero distractions. Great for minimalists!
I love that there are endless uses for this. Personally I use it as a habit tracker app, to track things like working out 6 days a week, eating a salad every day, and stretching before bed every day. But there are so many other uses for this they are practically endless. From reading other reviews I see they are also great for keeping track of stats, numbers, etc. So no matter the use it is perfect.
So do yourself a favor - download Tally. Get that upgrade. Trust me, it is worth it!

Still broken!!

I've been using this app for 1.5yrs to track medications and amount of rest I get. Used to love Tally but the recent version that upgraded the interface broke a lot of existing features.

I see that you're trying to clean up the mess but until you put back in the ability to edit an existing entry for quantity + time/date, and fix the issue where new items can only be tracked using NOW() for date/time during database insert -- there's no way to change the date or the time on new entries so if I take a medication and don't enter it into this app until an hour or two later then it gets into the database with the wrong time, messing up my ability to know how long it's been since the actual last dose. Why the date and time picking widget was remove I cannot fathom.

And why, WHY does a this app's history log start in November of last year instead of showing the tabulated entries for the current day?! I don't need to look at Nov entries first, then yesterday, then the day before, etc. It needs to start at TODAY.

I hate that you broke this perfectly good app. I'm not upgrading Moody ever again now, that's the other critical app in my personal life and I fear you dev team could have ruined it just like you did with this app 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tally is amazing for tracking Trigeminal Neuralgia pain

I have tried so many other apps and when you are in the middle of an attack and you then go to the doctor and she asks you “how many lightning shocks was it?” I’m always estimating because that is the last thing you want to do when you are getting struck by lightning in the face is go in and answer 20 questions to count something. With this app I can tap my phone for every shock then download a report to print or email to my doctor! This has helped my treatment so much!
Tally is amazing, for 4.99 you can customize your this app buttons and track whatever you want from pain to water intake! I can’t say enough!

New version a disappointment

I’ve been using this app daily for more than two years. Anytime I think of trying another habit tracker, I run them head-to-head and end up sticking with this app every time because of the simplicity. But I recently updated Tally ...and now I think it might be time to move on. It runs way slower, the titles don’t really fit neatly in the tiles, the size of the circles doesn’t accurately show the values when looking back over the data, and most of the open screen is taken up by requests to upgrade to premium.

I’ll see if things improve over the next week or so (the last four weeks have had updates but that have identical descriptions), but then it seems like it is time to move on. It had a good run. I’m not mad, just disappointed.

A mess

[Update] Months later and still no fix. I had gotten a developer respons to my original review and I was told that they are aware of the issue. But after all this time still no fix. I have not regretted in a long time paying for a subscription, but now I do. The frustrating part is that it used to work just fine on the watch. I have deleted and reinstalled Tally numerous times on watch and phone are updated to the latest version and still no go. Absolutely useless.

Used to be a great app but now it’s a mess. 1) The haptic counter on watch isn’t working since several months. 2) The list of counts and notes has a whacky sorting, entries for 2020 are intermingled and the current day is somewhere further down. 3) You no longer can edit a count. Used to be able to adjust the time of a count, no longer.

PLEASE MAKE YOUR APPS ACCESSIBLE!!! Blind User.

Hi Reflectly! I'm a blind user who depends on VoiceOver to use aps. I really, really want to use your apps, especially this app. But I can't, because they do not work well with VoiceOver. It's impossible to tell what selections I've made when creating a this app. The colors are completely unlabeled. I can't figure out how to leave the stats screen or creation screen and get back to the this app screen. I've run into similar issues with your other apps. I did send an email, got a generic response, and none of the updates since then have fixed the accessibility problems. Seriously, your apps are amazing, and I really want to use them, would even pay to subscribe. Please improve how your apps work with VoiceOver!

New updates = less features

I loved using the this app app however with its recent updates, so much of the functionality is gone. I paid for the upgraded version a while back so I could use more this app boxes. However with the last updates, I am no longer to create this app’s and now it’s telling me I have to upgrade again. Before, you were also able to click on a day and see what the total number count was but they took that functionality away too so all you get is the overall count total for the month making it more difficult to see what progress/counts you had at a certain day.

Their contact support buttons also do not work in their app so I feel like customer service isn’t even there. Instead it once again brought me to the upgrade page. How awful!

Once Good, Now Less Features and 0 Support

Tally was once great. There used to be a lot of settings to let you customize your experience. One of my favorites was to choose when the day restarted but that’s disappeared!! I miss the great widget. I also have issues with the goal line showing up. It’s a shame you can’t see data further back than the current year too. The biggest failure though is the complete lack of support. If you click literally any of the help related buttons in Tally it says it’s unavailable. You can try Support, Help Us Improve this app, Feedback/Contact Us, Request A Feature… nothing. Pretty useless when there are features disappearing and problems occurring. It’s such a shame because it really was a good app. Fix it!!

Took away features I already paid for

I don’t fault the developers for switching to a subscription model. That’s their choice, and I hope it works out for them.

What is NOT okay is how they’ve handled existing customers who already paid to upgrade to the “premium” app. We’re people who liked Tally enough to pay for it, and the developers thanked us by removing the functionality we already paid for and offering us the opportunity to pay more to get that functionality back. It’s a breach of trust with your customers. You can’t say “pay us a one-time fee and you’ll unlock premium features” and then lock those features and ask us to pay again. The feature was literally called “One-Time Upgrade.” I have to wonder if Apple has a policy about this sort of unethical behavior.

The best tally app out there

It just is. Simple sometimes means it's like your 10 year old nephew coded it. This is simple in a sleek and fun way, and it's imminently customizable with great options for visualization. I paid for the upgrade over a year ago and I don't regret it one bit. Admittedly, I moved across the country, forgot to keep up with it for a few months, and after a couple of dalliances with a couple of other this app apps, I have to say this one is still the best out there.

I feel like it might have been SLIGHTLY more prompt to register or edit a this app a version or two back, but I hope they're going to get on fixing that soon. It's not a big deal, and Tally still blows me away in how effective and motivating it is.

Awesome app

If you like to read reviews before you purchase an app, then you are just like me. Tally is simply just awesome. I’ll tell you why I love it and how I use it.

I use Tally everyday. I use it primarily to track my fitness goals. You can customize Tally for many options. I keep track of my pushups, pull-ups, dips and various other exercises. You can see your progress for different timeframes, ie. week month and year.

I have one athlete that I train for basketball and I keep track of her fitness progress as well. You can set up a filter so you can see only what you want. I’m am super happy with this purchase.

Perfect for what I need it for!

Love love love Tally. Had to figure out how to use the journal (tap in the colored area not the white area) but once I figured that out, I’m all in on this! I have to this app certain things in my job each day and I’m finding this to be the perfect quick tool to do so. Rather than having to pull up a spreadsheet, this is ideal because I have it with me at all times and on my desk to quickly log the things I need to track as they occur. After each month I can then export the entire results to a spreadsheet and submit it. It’s perfect!

By

It’s a smooth app but not for everyone

I purchased this in a “growth bundle” with a bunch of other stuff along with “time page” and “actions” and also “Done”. The bundle is completely redundant and all tho it’s great to find what you like best, no one could use all of them or you would have no life cuz you’d just be documenting all the time😕.
The apps are all smooth and beautiful and fun but just too much. You’ll end up just picking one or two. I kept DONE and Timepage.
I let the growth bundle go tho. This particular one this app is an easy fun and colorful way to keep count of anything you want and I found no problems in the way in which it worked. 👍🏼

ALMOST Perfect

Perfect isn't a word I use often for an app, so that this one is very nearly there is a rarity for me. My challenge: I want to be able to record when something occurred, all instances of when it occurred, notes for outliers and the last time that event occurred. I also need to be able to export that data for review elsewhere for review. this app does all of this and more.

Additional features I'd like to see (and be willing to pay above the this app: Premium fee.
1. To be able to enter a time when entering a previous occurrence
2. Change the bottom text on the dashboard to choose the "last occurrence" instead of "last update". So if I forgot to update "Bought Mom Flowers" when it happened two days ago I could enter and the dash would show "2 days" instead of "0 minutes" ago.
3. Adding items to "groups" and filter based on "group"

Cheers for an app that now lives prominently on my home screen!

Literally Changing My Life!!

Tally is literally changing my life for the better... no BS. Every single day I use it to score myself against my New Years resolutions. Absolutely LOVE Tally. Thanks to Kev Rose for the tip!!

ASK: if you want me to be a walking advertisement of this app, PLEASE ad feature to show/hide multiple groups. Right now you can only show ALL or show one group. I’d like to show all of my groups except one... not possible! So I literally can’t show people Tally to brag about it... as one group includes my private goals... that I don’t want people to see.

By

Immediate gratification

this app helps me WANT to continue good habits by giving me that little jolt of good feeling when I fill something in. I also hate to NOT fill something in, which is also a motivator. I also love how I can look at the graphs to see how I’ve progressed over weeks and months. I like that you can add notes for better tracking of what you actually did - like with exercise. Finally, the time stamp helps with tracking things like “when did I have that last cup of coffee!” or “...last dose of Tylenol?”

By

sweet & simple

I’ve been searching through apps to keep track of habits/goals for a few days, and finally stumbled upon this one. Tally has a beautifully minimal and responsive design and can be personalized to fit anything you want to keep track of. It feels very unique from the standard habit tracker formula on most other apps, which I like a lot. After giving both this app and Done a shot, I decided to stick with this app & go for the paid upgrade (I enjoyed the layout/versatility of this one more) and am loving it! The journaling and statistics functions are a big plus for me.

I think some nice improvements could be:
- having a separate tab for progress on long-term goals
- adding new designs/animations for when these goals are met
- incorporating more illustrations (they’re beautiful!) or having “this app” be an interactive character/AI response for daily use of Tally

Great app... would love a group feature!

I love Tally and I think it’s a rare find in the productivity app sphere! One thing I’d like to see is a group forum where we can send other people in our network, publicly or privately, shoutouts or show our progress by logging it there whenever we’ve made a step towards our this app goals. I think that would be super motivating and would make an already great app better. Thanks for making this and I look forward to utilizing it daily in the New Year!

By

Sluggish but pretty

The biggest gripe I have with Tally (and Done) is how sluggish the buttons and animations feel. If there was a way to disable the animations to speed up the actual usage of Tally , I'd have nothing to gripe about!

You have to consider that users want to get to this information quickly, and the slow animations tend to have a cumulative effect and make the whole experience feel slow.

I also think the + button on the month view is slow to respond, as are various buttons after coming out of an animation.

Exactly what I was looking for

Very intuitive. Easy to set up and use. Tally provides the features I needed to capture and analyze gate entry statistics (2 hour blocks of time) at our homeowner association pool. The data is maintained by counter-day, and easily exported to a CSV file. While I would like to see support for landscape orientation on the iPad, the portrait orientation works fine. Would also like to see auto timed backup to iCloud for data protection. Manual backup is fine but auto is much better

“I am so thoroughly convinced that if we don’t set goals in our life and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age and look back on our life only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting a goal, he will then be able to make a great difference in the results he attains in this life.”

I love Tally because it is helping me master this skill!!

Easy to use, but...

I really like Tally , it’s a simple, easy-to-use system, and the musical instrument sound is fun, too! The only thing I would like to be different, which I know kind of goes against the literal meaning of the word “this app” would be to allow me to put in decimal points. I like to use it to track my miles, but sometimes I don’t do a round number and I’m forced to round up or down on Tally, which doesn’t give me an accurate amount of how many miles done. Little thing, but it would be a great improvement!
