Whoever was in charge of the design for this app needs to be fired!
This app shows a complete disregard for basic convenience. Never in my entire life have I not been able to look at train schedules before purchasing tickets. As well as that, it baffles me that no where on the app is there any indication of the expiration time limit that applies to one way tickets. Had I know that the tickets I was buying for a week in advance would expire at 3 AM the next morning, I would have never used this completely useless app, and my money would not be wasted. This aspect of Metrolink’s ticket buying process itself is completely irrational to me. Why is it that I am unable to buy a ticket for a future trip on this app? My suggestion for Metrolink is to address these issues, otherwise I can’t fathom using this feature any time soon in the future. Overall, an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. My advice for people considering using this app is to save their time and money, and use a different train service.
Would be great if it were 1985
This app would be great if it were 1985. They push and push for riders to use the app but with so many people riding to Union Station LA and no support for subway use this is such a waste of time. That and the terrible UI/UX it is actually worse when the conductor comes to check tickets because it takes extra time for people to get out their phone, open the app, etc while he/she waits to scan the digital ticket. I wish Metrolink would spend less time developing a useless app and more time on keeping their trains on schedule. I would gladly use paper tickets in exchange for the trains being on time at least once a week.
Why can’t I look at the train schedule without a purchase?
It’s ok, but why do I have to go through the machinations of selecting and purchasing a ticket to get any schedule information? I want to plan my trip BEFORE it appears that I’m going to have to pay for it, especially since I can only purchase the day of the trip. It makes the app unusable except for the day you want to depart.
It’s a really great app. It’s very convenient when having to buy a ticket and the machines don’t work or are out of service at the stations. It’s missing some features though like allowing to use promo codes on the app when getting a ticket. Other than that, I think it’s a very good app. I also think it would be better if they added the alerts on the app as well rather than just twitter.
Worked as it should
As a first time user, taking Flyaway from LAX to take the Metrolink (from LA union station to Moreno Valley), I had no issues buying a ticket and using the app. Maybe the recent update addressed the problems most users have complained about. So far I had no issues. Will def use again!
I used to have a free app that was easy to navigate, and useful too, then it vanished on the App Store and this was my only option. Why is it missing so many easy options, like being able to change the direction of a route with just a tap? When I search for a trip, I have to use pull-downs to completely reset the stations.
Limited Number if Device Changes
Found that there are limited numbers you can move the app from device to device. This is a very impractical feature. Also, transitions between screens are bizarre.
The latest update addresses everything I’ve ever wanted from the app. The ability to QUICKLY get to my current pass from a 3D press finally makes this worthy of 5 stars from me.
Another app that takes you to a webpage. Update: It’s great to be able to navigate through the app for schedules and train status. Good update. 👍🏽 for you Metrolink. Now if I could scan the mobile ticket for the Gold Line I would add one more star.
Needs work. Why can’t I see the route without buying a ticket? Supposedly there is some route from station A to station B that I need, but the app won’t tell me the route or how much time it takes unless I purchase the ticket. If I search the same route on google it tells me I can’t get there my metrolink. Why is it so hard to find out this basic information without buying my ticket?!!!!
Use Transit for schedules, this for tickets
Have been using the app for a year now. It’s fine for buying tickets but the schedules are not updated here, I missed a train because of that. Use Transit or Google Maps instead for schedules, they make it easier to search, anyways. The fact that you can’t get a refund on an unused ticket is annoying.
App almost as bad as service
NO updates from ML until 1-2 hours after incident. “Where’s My Train” feature used to work, but now trains disappear from map after 10 seconds, rendering the feature 100% useless. In sync with Metrolink’s on-time performance which also garnishes 1 Star...meaning that occasionally they are less than 30 minutes late, but never count on it.
App needs some updating
Would be WAY easier if the “ticket info tab”would tell us the basic information of exactly what platform and what # of train we need to get on.......
So nice to just buy them with Apple Pay and not worry about waiting at the station kiosk.
Barcode needs work
As others mentioned, bar codes at the station turnstiles work only about 50% of the time. Maybe make it bigger? Not sure why this is such a weak link.
