Polymail has Poly Problems

UPDATE September 20, 2021: It seems this is becoming abandoned-ware. The tech people do not respond. There are constant errors with badges reflecting completely incorrect message counts. Makes you wonder if the this app is going Polybyebye.

Polymail is not ready for prime time. I’m a paying customer and can assert that I would not be surprised if this app goes the way of Astro, Newton, and all the other paid apps. The difference: those apps worked. This one, for the most part, does not. Further, customer service is horrible. They work a few hours a day. Are only available via online chat from the website. And their responses are often non-sensible. Have a problem on a weekend? Good luck! Even Airmail people respond. But this app may or may not respond on Monday. Even worse, you’ll receive a never ending flow of emails from founder Brandon Foo, but trying to email him directly — finding his address is easy — generates no response. If there’s venture capital involved, I’d hope someone reconsiders whether Polymail is worth financing. It certainly isn’t worth $99 a year.

Disasterous attempt to switch to Polymail

I had high hopes for this app given the reviews I read. I spent several hours setting up the account the way I wanted it. The problems I found so far: 1) the synching is delayed by as much as 2 hours, so an email I received in my gmail account interface would not show up in this app for 1-2 hours later; 2) the documentation is terrible, I tried to figure out things like how to set up my folder structure and there's no documentation; 3) the folders are very hard to use. if you delete one, it deletes the entire folder and filing system in the native source as well (although doens't warn you it is doing that)- there is no capacity to move boxes around or dynamically update them other than adding new boxes and changing names; 4) the support is extremely slow and takes up to a day to reply. I hated it.

Don't like it

I thought I give this app another try after I was really not happy with it a year ago but I was really surprised to discover that my same complaints are still valid:
How can it be that I can't paste my account password in the login screen but have to enter it manually instead?? This is a hugr security risk as it promotes usage of passwords that are easy to remember rather than relying on a password manager. I use 30+ letter/digit/number passwords and not being able to paste them is a no-go for me from the get-go.
As I did want to try this app though, I did enter the password manually (real pain…) only to discover that I still cannot display folders/labels by account but that they are rather grouped together. Such a mess… I have 13 accounts but I stopped after three as it became unmanageable. I realize that 13 accounts is an edge case but even with three accounts and lots of folders, this is unacceptable.
I surely hope that these bugs/oversights can/will be fixed but until then, this app remains a merely ok email app.

I like it

I really really like it. So why did I give it a 2 star? It’s because I can’t read half of my incoming email. If it’s a short email, I can read it. If it’s longer like a newsletter, it’ll cut off at the bottom and I’ll be forced to either stop reading it or jump onto my computer. There’s no button to ‘view full’ or something either. I found if I pinch the screen I can see the whole email but when released, it’ll go back to being cut off. The point of a mail app is to be able to read your emails, not get teasers of your emails. So I had to uninstall for a very simple and mundane problem that could have been fixed. :(

I want to like this app.

I want to like Polymail. I’ve been using it for about 6 months and it replaced Astro which I really LOVED. I use the Mac version and don’t seem to have as many issues with it there as I do on iPhone.

First, it doesn’t sync drafts. what’s the point of an email app that isn’t fully useful for all functional processes? If I start an email in this app then have to complete it when I’m at work on a pc? no option. I have to start over.

I also don’t like how Polymail groups email folders all together. I only put two of my email addresses into Polymail because it’s difficult to keep track of all the combined folders.

Also, if you draft an email response? you can’t scroll up to look at the previously sent email. How can I respond appropriately if I can’t address each issue in the sent message?

Also, the iOS version doesn’t have the ability to view tracking - it only informs you if an email is read. Doesn’t show you the # of times it was read or any other of the tracking features. you have to go to the Mac version for that.

I’ve actually been an iPhone user for almost 10 years. I’ve never written a review. I want to like Polymail. but it needs to be much more functional than it is. Especially if you’re going to charge a monthly fee to access some of its features. :-/

Great concept, poor execution

If this app ever worked consistently, it would be fantastic. Unfortunately, not a day goes by where I don’t encounter at least a handful of issues. If you need to work fast, this isn’t the right solution for you — yet (hopefully). It’s the right idea, but when emails won’t load for hours, sync for days, and when you straight up can’t send a simple email due to some unknown error (even after restarting your phone), you can’t rely on this app. Seems like a classic startup case of trying to do too much, too fast. I hope these issues are resolved eventually, and I know they are trying with their many updates, but unfortunately nothing has actually improved yet. Quite possibly the opposite. Should have waited to roll out a web app until everything else worked, and worked well.

No 2-factor auth

I really want to use and love Polymail but it offers no 2-factor authentication, even tho logging in to this app yields access to all your email. So it doesn’t matter if you have 2-factor authentication on your gmail account: if you use this app your email is still subject to compromise with a single password. For me this is an extreme dealbreaker. I don’t need two-factor auth protection for everything in life, but my email is a requirement. If my email is compromised then everything is compromised since all other services will just send your email a password reset link. I’m kind of shocked an app this advanced, with feature additions like Calendars, hasn’t addressed this as a first-case issue.

Cool features, but unreliable. Needs improvement

Was using Newton and migrated over to this app because it offers some unique features: unlimited tracking, setting templates, etc. So far, I regret doing so. Newton was so reliable and easy to use. this app, on the other hand, has been so unreliable: As other users have already mentioned, EMAILS DISAPPEAR! Literally sent an email around 10 minutes ago and can’t find it anywhere. Really aggravating. Will give this another few weeks before I give up on this app. I want to stick with Polymail but will only do so if these bugs get fixed. For $110 a year Polymail should work perfectly!

Promising, but no good to me without Exchange

I so wanted to make this my email app. Loved it on the trial run (and I greatly appreciate the free trial). There are some bugs. It often loads mail extremely slowly (so much so that sometimes, the notification pops up before the message is available). Badges are unreliable. Folders are inflexible. All that was dwarfed, though, by the excellent sender profile feature, especially the ability to access all files a contact has ever sent you in a single list just by opening the profile window, which in turn can be opened through any message from that contact. So for that, and the beautiful interface, I could have lived with the bugs in the hopes they would work them out eventually. But no support for Exchange is a deal breaker. One of my employers uses Exchange, it can’t be configured as IMAP, and this app could give no definitive answer as to when Exchange support would be forthcoming, though they’ve been talking about it since 2016. I have four jobs, which is an immense amount of information to keep organized; I need all my mail in one place. I’m finally making the jump from Mac Mail, but it won’t be to this. It’s not ready yet.

Great App, but needs better tracking notification

I am using this app after Edison’s demise and it is great for work (I use Polymail on my iPad Pro for tracking purposes) with one exception. When an email has been sent and opened, it tells you someone has opened the email without telling you who. This is great if there is only one recipient. Maybe this will change in the future. Otherwise this app is a great app and I will recommend to my colleagues.

Near perfect email app!

this app is great and loaded with features like templates, tracking, scheduling, and being cross-platform. It also supports dark mode now which is great.

However, fixing the long-standing bugs would be a welcomed change. I’ve noticed long term bugs like deleted emails coming back and not deleting, taking too much time for the mobile app to sync with the desktop app, and having new emails not show up for 5-15 minutes.

If these bugs get fixed then this app would be the perfect email app. Until then, it’s a powerful email application, but be prepared for some bugs.

Good app but some glitches

I like Polymail. It is good with tracking and they don't add unnecessary crap like others that would reveal to the recipient that you're tracking the emails. I also particularly love the scheduled send feature, it's so convenient.

There are some issues though.

1. Once you set the email name Polymail sticks on to it no matter what. Deleting it or changing had no effect whatsoever and the emails get sent with the old name as your name.

2. Polymail tracks multiple reads but captures the time only for the last read. Multiple reads should be retained with as many entries if the setting is on to track that way.

3. It would be nice if Polymail shows the read time and date for all entries (including multiple reads) as it is than just showing x hours or Jan10.

4. Polymail doesn't seem to track the file/attachment reads correctly. They should do it similar to emails.

Overall, I'm happy with Polymail and it has replaced my default apps. Hopefully they work and clear this glitches mentioned above.

Great app, but needs to focus on small details

I love how Polymail has iPhone, iPad, and Mac native apps. However, there are some small tweaks and features that should be implemented. My biggest feature would be to select which devices get specific email accounts. For example, I use this app on my phone for personal, school, and work email accounts. However, on my work laptop I want to toggle off my personal and school email accounts to keep my private life separate from my work life. The subscription price is also steep given that there are free services that offer read tracking, but I pay for the uniformity across all devices.

love it, keep up the great work!

as a former nylas n1 user - later nylas mail - i struggled to find an app that had all of the features, but this app has them. the mac app is excellent, and the iphone app is equally powerful and useful. is there latency in certain functions? sure, but it's not a showstopper and it keeps improving.

request: please add support for dynamic type (accessibility) - OR at least add font size controls to enlarge the defaults - that would bump me to five stars ;)

back again to update this review: it’s great but PLEASE add font size control!!!! also, support for emoji would be nice and make it feel more current

Perfect for business development

As a freelance consultant, I tend to do a lot of selling - but I can’t afford enterprise tools for my small operation. this app gives me all the open and attachment tracking alerts I need to move specific deals forward, without a hefty price tag. The mobile app is also sublime and has all the features of the desktop version. It’s a step ahead of YesWare/ToutApp and other similar products. Additionally, it’s actually a joy to use. I am a fan of this tool.

Helps so much with time management!

Polymail is saving my sanity! The ability to read emails later, schedule emails, and put a follow up reminder is helping so much with the time management of my small business. No more waiting and checking my email to see if a client has responded, and no more forgetting about an email that popped up during an inopportune time!

I recommend Polymail to anyone with multiple emails or has a business that requires a lot of waiting for responses!

Love it!

This is by far the best email client I have ever used, and I have used many—Outlook, Mail, Gmail, Thunderbird. It loads emails amazingly fast and does not take up a lot of memory. One feature I would request is that the email section would go full-screen on the Ipad. The only option right now is for the list of all your emails to be displayed on the side while viewing a particular email. The full-screen option would allow for focusing on one email and staying concentrated.

From best to better!

Used the desktop app almost two years ago and left it with my old work. Just picked it back up on my mobile and never expected to be so excited about - or write my first positive app review - an email app.

Best part is it takes no onboarding time before you start gaining benefits. Unlike some of my other favorite apps (the Omni suite) you don't have to invest hours upon days upon weeks using and learning the flow to appreciate it.
Download this thing - its free - and you'll see in the first few emails how great it is, specially the tracking options which now support multiple tracking, love it!

This is a FANTASTIC email Application.

I've been around Technology for over 20 plus years, and this email application truly gets the complete job of needed requirements done. You do not have to search any longer for an email application that gives you all the features you need. As a CTO for over 20 years and now retired... but still consulting for 2 of the U.S. Government 3 letter Agencies in the areas of cyber security and quantum computing I can tell you that I have seen it all. So for what it's worth... I highly recommend this email application if you are looking for a fully featured email application for your device. (Period)... 5-Plus Stars for sure. And BTW I am not affiliated in anyway with the folks behind this email application or their company.

I don't write reviews

And I never thought a mail app would be almost exciting to try. I hate the apple mail app, always have. But as far as mobile mail I couldn't complain too much it does the job.

I downloaded this first on my MacBook Pro, and I couldn't believe that I actually love a mail app enough to know I'm going to sign up once the trim is over. I can't go back. It's really that good. The features are amazing, ive never seen a mail app have them, and the interface is easy and very modern looking, not cumbersome in the least, especially considering how nice they've managed to design it on top of it all. Email is now fun. At least for now.

I'm switching desktop apps from outlook 2016, which I thought was perfect until I tried this... i don't even know if I need the features but I have a feeling they'll be nice to have for some occasion. I send links to an article I've written to various editors and with Polymail, I can now see if my content is being read, shared, ignored, so I can get a better idea on various writing styles and which are more well-received.

In short: get the desktop and phone app and do away with all the email clients we've all used by default, this email app beats them all.
