Second review

My first review, over a year ago, was one of the most strict and brutal reviews I’ve ever written. Funimation was truly bad and the overall service sub par. After the update and reformatting, things have been over 9,000 times better. It’s much easier to use, the layout is more friendly. And they probably added more servers. Idk. Seems faster. Thankfully they decided to change it for their customers.

3 things though. 1 It would have been nice to know that there was an update on the way. Seeing as how it might have taken awhile to make. Knowing it ahead of time would have made being patient easier. 2 They say you can stream multiple devices, but if that’s true why not add multiple profiles so that my wife can watch her stuff and I can watch mine. If we are on the same show at different times it’s makes it difficult to pick up where I left easy. I’m feel that it wouldn’t be terribly hard to do that but I don’t format or program, so idk 3 if you are watching a show and want to continue where you left off I wish that clicking the show would take you to the details instead of playing. It sounds counter intuitive but that’s because when someone else is watching. The same show and I want to check what episode is up I gotta go find the show.

Wow it’s improved

I’d like to start my stating that this is purely a review of Funimation itself, not content or the company.
I have used the this app app for about three years now, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by how much improvement has been made over that time. About three years ago Funimation was unusable, quite literally. It often would simply stop working or close, along with general loading issues. I mean it when I at that literal pirating websites had better reliability than Funimation . BUT I am glad to say that has changed.
The recent improvements are wonderful. Funimation looks nicer, no longer that terrible white background with the harsh sharp corners for everything, and the search aspect now works reliably. Funimation is useable and is good for everything I need. It lacks a lot of things in the quality of life department, but it seems they are currently prioritizing functionality over the good looks.

UI and problems with watching certain shows

The user interface is poor at best and completely broken at worst. I have issues with speed and connection even using a LAN connection and good internet speeds. This problem makes about half their library unavailable at any time and doesn't have any rhyme or reason for their failures. The download is slow and updates seem non-existent. After they bought VRV I hoped they would build off of VRV's perfectly good app and brand it this app, but they took it the other way. New series they've recently gotten the rights to that are touted as great additions; I would agree they are great additions to their library, but none of them are actually available for me to watch, it just says come back and try later.
Broken system without hope for anything better since there is now a semi-monopoly on the anime streaming game by Sony and their terrible app.
If there was ANY alternative to this app's app on phone/tv/computer I would even pay them an extra couple dollars to fix their problems, but I wouldn't trust Sony at their word for all the (insert valuable item here) with respect to fixing problems. this app has sucked for years, now it is getting much, much worse. I expect not to be able to watch any of their new acquisitions this year, maybe they'll fix it by 2023?

It’s not that bad of an app but…

I enjoy this app and it’s wide variety of anime although there are a few problems. First of all I don’t see a casting button on the new version of Funimation . I remember seeing one previously so it’s quite annoying that I can’t find it anymore in the newer version of Funimation . Another problem is the ads. I understand you need to make money but the ads don’t stay consistent. Whenever you try to watch an anime normally you get one ad before you begin to watch although sometimes you’ll get all five. And although it’s bothersome to sit through five ads that is not really a problem for me. One of my biggest problems is when I’m trying to watch this one dubbed anime (My Roommate is a Cat) the subtitles are turned on. I’m not a big fan of unnecessary subtitles so I turn them off but then I have to watch another five ads after turning off the subtitles. And every single time I stop watching and go back to that anime the subtitles are turned back on. I hope you can fix this issue or make the ads less. Because it is very bothersome to sit through five ads back to back just because I don’t want to watch an anime that I can understand the language of (English) with subtitles that Funimation puts on the show manually.
Thank you for reading this and have a lovely day/night.

Too many dubs

The selection of shows is pretty good, but the Japanese versions are largely unavailable. I’m not hating on people who want the dubbed versions, but hearing the original Japanese voice actors is my personal preference. All the shows I love and wanted to rewatch are English only. You would think it would be the other way around. It’s definitely taken away a significant number of choices from the shows I would watch which is maddening because this is one of the only ways to watch anime in my region. This feels like a trap because this company knows it doesn’t have to be good to its users because they’re one of the only ones who provides this service. Feels like a rort paying for premium.

On top of that are the usual ux/ui complaints. Hard to navigate to a genre or a show’s info page (i.e. you see the tile for the most recent episode of a series you are interested in starting but there’s no way to see the show details so you cannot pick the first episode in the series, forcing you to hunt down their search function and typing out the entire show title unless you want to scroll through the irrelevant results that come up in the search). You have to scroll through a lackluster home page to find the filtering function and loading each show’s info has a 30% chance of a load error. There’s no way to report missing subtitles or to request shows (like when this was animelab).

Terrible customer service

this app is a decent app for a decent price. It allows you to watch some anime, with some convenience, and is really cheap. However, if your looking for quality content backed by a company that actually cares, then look elsewhere. Upon getting my account hacked, and email/password switched, this app had zero customer support in locating my account. They failed to find my account via email address, account name, credit card, or any other means that would normally locate ones account. They instead shifted all responsibilities and to blame a third-party payment system, insisting that they could only help if you used a credit card instead of the Apple payments. As petty as it may seem, I was robbed out of my billing cycle payments, forced to create a new account, loosing all data and history associated with this app. It isn’t worth investing hours of your life into an app that cannot securely safeguard your account, nor keep records on file regarding your account details, and insisting that you should start a new subscription and refresh all your account preferences including the lists of content you intended to watch.

After reattempting this service, I found I was getting ads on multiple episodes for multiple different shows. Upon contacting customer support, they simply said they were looking into the issue and never came up with a solution.

This truly hurts to write

I love this app, and I don’t just mean Funimation. Funimation has possibly the best selection of anime outside of finding it illegally online, but it doesn’t matter how great or how many shows you have if you can’t watch them. I always just assumed that I (along with every other person writing bad reviews) just had crappy phones or bad WiFi, but I now have the iPhone 13 with the fastest internet speeds you can get, due to working from home, and I STILL get MAYBE 3 episodes into something before Funimation refuses to play the next episode. The crazy part is, I’ll go try to play another show and that will play no problem and I’ll try to go back to the episode that I was trying to watch in the first place and it still won’t load. Whenever I read reviews, I always think to myself that the people writing them had ONE bad experience and now they just want to complain, but I have been paying for this app for YEARS now, and I can honestly say, this is an everyday thing. Every time Funimation has an update, I get so excited thinking that just maybe, this is the one that fixes the streaming issues, but it still hasn’t happened. Please this app, I am begging you while literally throwing money at you every month, PLEASE fix these streaming issues.. I’m not going to continue paying for something I can’t use, that’s why I left my ex.

Ad watching simulator. Broken app.

TL;DR
AVOID Funimation IF POSSIBLE. It has way too many errors that make you to be unable to watch the shows you want to watch while spamming you with ads.

I have been using Funimation for less than a week and I have already encountered continual errors. First of all, there are a lot of ads if you do not have a subscription. This would be perfectly fine if it wasn’t for the fact that Funimation frequently gets stuck while loading the ads, forcing you to reset Funimation and watch the ads all over again. It is not a WiFi or connection issue. If the ads load properly, you watch about 6.5 minutes to 8 minutes of ads per episode, but if the apps don’t load properly you could end up watching up to 15.5 minutes of ads or possibly even more. That’s right. If Funimation malfunctions hard enough, you could spend more time watching ads than the episodes themselves. Also, I have gotten errors that have prevented me from watching anything in Funimation at all. One type of error has seemed to happen for no reason. Other times, I have gotten an error message saying that I can only watch on one device with a free account even though I had logged out on the other device over 30 minutes ago. Terrible, horrible app. I will try to find other methods of watching the shows I want to watch.

Good but needs some improvements

I pay $5.99 a month for Funimation so I can any of the shows available to me without ads and so I can cast to my tv. The anime selection is better than Netflix and I don’t have to create a whole separate profile so my algorithm on Netflix doesn’t get ruined. However recently, I’ve noticed that while watching it’ll allow me to watch one or two episodes and then halfway through the second or third episode, it’ll boot me out of Funimation and force me to start the episode all over again. Since I cast this to the tv, I have to use wifi and I know my connection is good so it can’t be that and I don’t have this problem with any other app. If I’m going to be paying a monthly fee to use Funimation, I really ought to be able to ACTUALLY use it. Very frustrating to have to constantly reboot Funimation .

Edit: this bug has been fixed however a new one has popped up! Now I can’t cast in Japanese!! Like many anime fans, I strongly prefer watching in Japanese with English subtitles as English dub is super cringey. But now Funimation doesn’t let me do that while casting to Google Crome cast. Please for the love of all that is good in the world, FIX THIS BUG!!

Great titles if you can get the app to work or titles to pull up

Very good shows when you can access them and that is the problem. You can find a show and then the next minute it doesn’t exist. Then you find a show that has no episodes but a few hours later they have episodes for it. This is even if you can get on Funimation at all. For something you pay for not worth the money for the poor user experience you get but when it works it is worth it. Not only the above mentioned things but sometimes it bugs out and freezes in the episode. I can go from my living room to my bedroom to continue a show and it doesn’t work at all when it was just working fine and not to mention I pay for this and Funimation no longer works for me at any point. The only reason I keep this is because it does have the most dubbed and what I prefer to watch anime on unlike cruchyroll who is mainly in original languages and that is fine for those that like that kind of thing but I don’t like reading when watching something. If it wasn’t for the dubbed content I would cancel this and watch for free on gogo anime

Unsatisfactory

For an app that requires a paid subscription to have so many technical difficulties is pretty unacceptable. I often try to log on and am unable because Funimation “can not fetch data”. I also am not able to watch a number of titles that are said to be included on Funimation because they simply will not load. I have this same issue when using the website, so it is a company wide problem. It is frustrating for two reasons. The first, being that I have seen other streaming apps that have none of these issues so I know that it is possible to fix these bugs. The second, is it feels as though the company is neglecting their customers because they know that this app is the only app available in America with such a wide range of dubbed anime. They choose not to correct any of these issues even though their are countless complaints, or at least that is how it is coming off. I suggest a change in subscription pricing so that these problems can be resolved. I am sure that myself and many other customers would not kind paying more if it means an actually enjoying watching experience.

Signed, a very disappointed customer.

Player needs serious updating

Watching on my computer is just pathetic. My wifi connection is fine but it will buffer then skip about fifteen seconds at a time. It takes an hour to watch a 20 minute episode and I also miss out on planet of details with how much it skips. So I figured I’d get Funimation to see if it’s better. While it is a bit better it’s still very outdated compared to other apps. I can’t watch it in a small window while I open another app like pretty much everything else. I also have to turn the subtitles on again every time I open Funimation again. I have poor hearing and watch everything with the subtitles (unless they don’t match up correctly). Every other streaming app remembers that I use subtitles and I don’t have to keep turning them back on. Also it seems to have issues loading many titles. It’s about 1/5 that I click on says they’re having trouble loading even if it’s one I watched a few weeks ago but just wanted to look at how many episodes it had. I will probably not renew my subscription after this month because the few extra titles this app offers isn’t worth using an inferior video player.

Mediocre

I’ve hate Funimation for a couple of months, it’s best feature is it’s anime library. I’ve come across plenty of issues not only on the phone app but Funimation on the television as well. As for my televisions one won’t play any show I choose, the other won’t auto play to the next episode. My fire stick is where Funimation works best.

As for my phone downloading shows to watch later is terrible, for starters the download speed of one episode is slow, then after I’ve clicked download on episodes I have to always go back because the episodes always fail to download. I have to keep clicking and re-download episodes multiple times for hours. While on wifi in some locations episodes not download will not play, it’ll sit at a black screen and do nothing BUT on the same wifi speed Netflix downloads episodes and plays everything very well. With all that being said I guess it’s pointless having to mention the subtitles come in seconds late.

So all in all it’s almost better to try a different anime app altogether which I have not done thus far. I’ll give Funimation another month of $7 before I call it quits.

I enjoy it but there’s some problems...

Ok I really do enjoy Funimation it’s quite nice. There are problems that make me rate it so low let’s talk about the good part first. It has tons of Anime's for anyone and everyone which is quite nice but that’s really it...
One there’s mostly dubbed anime only, which is good for me because I HAVE to watch the dubbed version because of reasons. But for the people who want to watch the Anime's in Japanese and enjoy it that way don’t get that opportunity especially if it’s the original version is in Japanese that should be your first priority.
Then there’s the downloading feature so I wanted to download a season of an Anime series and it failed and was like ok...but then when I went back on to the season it told me again that it failed even if that was days later and it’s annoying. Like I know that it failed don’t tell me again and that happened every time I tried to watch it... so that’s that
Also money...even if you can have a premiere you should not have to pay something to watch most of everything on there.

Please add Mexico as a region so I can watch more anime’s

I love this app so much! It’s a great app and I love that I can watch it in dubs. The quality is amazing and premium is so worth it. I would say this app is way better then crunchy roll but the only problem is that I moved to Mexico a few days ago and I went onto this app and it says “this app is not available in this region but we’re adding new regions all the time. Check back again soon!” So can you please add Mexico. The only reason I’m asking is because I LOVE Funimation, ITS GREAT TO WATCH ANIMES but I have premium on there and it’s going to waste because Funimation doesn’t allow Mexico to use this app so like I said can you please please, please add it! (On safari I searched up if this app allows Mexico to use Funimation and it said like “this app will be adding Mexico soon” which was in like 2020.” So please add Mexico as a region so I can watch more anime! 😄

Really Great!

I've had a premium subscription for months now and this streaming service is really great! It has a lot of long shows that I've been itching to watch (One Piece, Dragon Ball) and for the most part I've had no issues! However, I'm around episode 500 for One Piece and I can no longer watch the Japanese dub? I've tried to switch languages back, set my language preference, even tried resetting my phone, yet I can't change it back? It says the Japanese dub isnt available yet when you look at the episode in the list it says it is? I've never had any issues with this in the past, why is it starting now? It happened earlier (around ep 480) but it was only with 1 episode. I've tried skipping ahead in the show and every episode I've tried doesn't have a Japanese option. Is there a way to fix this?

Good but needs improvement

Overall, I like the layout of Funimation , and it works great when I have a good WiFi connection.

My problems with this app are 1) why are there no profiles? If multiple people can be streaming at one time, why can’t there be multiple profiles, so everyone can have their own Queue AND keep track of what episode they are on? My brother and I have two very different tastes in Anime, and it would be nice to have my own profile with just the shows I want to watch. It would also be nice, because on the slim chance that we both want to watch the same show, I would like to be able to keep track of where I am at, instead of constantly being shown what episode my brother is on (because he watches more per day than me.)

2) I don’t understand why they don’t have a remote log out option. I feel like that would be the first thing a streaming service would make, incase an account got hacked, someone went on vacation or sold Xbox/PS/Etc and forgot to log out. Instead, I have to cancel my subscription, get a new email, and re-subscribe.

Every other streaming service I have/have used, have both of these services (profiles and remote log out), so I don’t understand why this app is being lazy and not providing its subscribers, aka THE PEOPLE GIVING THEM MONEY, with these (obviously user friendly) services. It makes no sense to me. If this app had these, I’d give it 7 starts out of 5, instead of 2.

Worst streaming app there is

Funimation BLOWS. Can’t help but compare to crunchyroll’s convenient bottom buttons for simulcasts, my stuff, etc…where’s my queue? All in one big long Netflix-style strip with no way to see a list. On top of that, if you try to stream to Roku, chromecast, smart TV or anything like that, Funimation somehow loses connection with the device you’re streaming to. The show will keep playing, but Funimation thinks it’s at whatever time stamp it was at when you STARTED streaming to the device. So if you need to pause your show for any reason, good luck- it’s starting you over from the beginning pretty much, and you’ll have to find your place on your own. For the same reason, Funimation doesn’t keep track of what I’ve watched, so if I ever stop watching a show for a couple weeks and want to pick up where I left off, that’s pretty much just not possible. I have to kind of guess where I was, probably end up rewatching three episodes, getting frustrated and putting it down again. This is really infuriating because this app has some great content- Funimation is just unusable.

By

Sorry but... here’s the truth

this app I have always loved your app, but you have to pay to like watch a episode you can’t, unlike Funimation Crunchyroll still has ads but you can watch all the Japanese or dubbed anime on there and you don’t have to pay. I love watching my hero academia on here. But I don’t enjoy paying for stuff I want to watch. Also let’s talk about katsu, katsu gets the episode on a few hours after it’s released. I’ve been waiting to watch season 4 on my hero academia. BOOM it’s comes out after so long but I have to pay for it. I love your dubs but please let everyone watch the episodes for free and pay for something like watch offline, or get free merchandise. I will still use Funimation. But not as much as I use crunchyroll. I will edit this if you make some changes.

Edit: Back to five stars :3 this was written in 2020 (I’m pretty sure) so here’s ur five stars back lol

Poor App Quality

I only got this to watch DBZ, but they do have a very large selection of shows to watch - that is why I gave a 2 star rating. Although the DBZ on here is not the original version and it’s missing quite a few parts, it’s still great to watch.
Content aside, this is simply not a good platform at all. If I were rating only the platform I would give it 0 stars. There are constant errors, and if you pause for more than a few minutes it crashes when you push play again. After you go back to the Home Screen and find the episode again, it starts you back a minute or 2 from where you left off. Also, the lowest forward and rewind setting are much too fast. There should be a slower option so you can go right to the parts you’re looking for.
There are also additional errors and crashes that happen every so often. It’s not my internet, as I don’t have issues with any other streaming services.

this app should not charge for this service until they fix all of these errors.

Funimation is a great app! Overall especially from some one who actually uses it.

I love anime, I will begin with that small portion first, secondly Funimation when I first got introduced to it a couple months ago, I though wow, it seems to have ads popping up....but I realized, that how else are they able to create a profit if they can’t show ads? I did some more research on this app and asked around with my buddies at college, and they said that it is amazing and to pay monthly for the subscription....it’s is worth it! So then I said okay, fine, I will try it out....And so far I love it and will always pay to use it monthly! I watch anime all the time, I never have any issues loading any anime unless....I’m at work of course haha......but it truly is the the best working app to watch anime! They also have greatttttttt....series like High School DxD😍😍😍.....or Suzuka, and another one is C3 Anime, and much more....I personally watch High School DxD....it has about 50 episodes, and I watch them through all the time. Also A series called Yu-No a girl who chants love, is a great series....I personally recommend it. It is worth the price every month, I honestly only pay 7.99 for premium....and it works beautifully. Great price for great content! Especially anime!!!!!! :p Thanks this app!!

Issues before even starting

I was debating whether I wanted to get the Crunchyroll or this app premium and saw they both had free trials so I thought might as well give them both a try and decide which to keep. Crunchyroll worked amazing and gave me no issues and I was already prepared to decide on that but I figured might as well try this app before. Upon making my account and doing everything I needed to do I was set. I downloaded Funimation on my tv and when I try to log in it keeps telling me the info I put in is invalid. I try it a couple more times to no avail. I download the mobile app to see if there’s a difference and the same issue. At this point I think I may have mistakenly put a different password so being already logged into the service on browser I attempt to change my password. Turns out the password I’ve been putting has been correct because to change your password you need to know your current password. Since I know what I’m putting is correct I try it again but nope still says invalid. I saw the bad reviews on the functionality of Funimation but I decided to still give it a try but if I’m already having issues with logging in I could imagine how bad it must be when you’re already in considering the reviews I’ve seen. I’m not interested in dealing with customer support or anything of the such. This easily made my decision on which app to subscribe to.

Poor streaming app that feels years behind the rest.

While it is nice to have a dedicated streaming location that is legal there is little to make it worth it, especially for a price. This is more than a little expensive for the content when compared to every other streaming site, especially when you consider these shows are coming to us second and the only real costs are dubbing and hosting which only make up a small portion of overall costs.

Funimation is slow, unintuitive, and buggy. When you launch is silences any music or podcasts you have on, loads, shows you and unskippable animation, and then loads the main page. Videos are extremely slow to start and constantly need to buffer more than any other app I have used. I have been unable to watch in portrait mode any videos. If you skip ahead with buttons or by dragging the location indicator it will stop and need to be restarted meaning you can only reliably watch a show from start to finish. If you close Funimation or stop playing a video you will almost often find it restarting from the beginning, again with no way to select location. You also have to log back in everytime you close Funimation .

The genre list and search functionality is bare bones and poor to use. Certain settings like maturity filtering can't be changed in Funimation . All in all a poor experience I will not be paying for.

Meh its okay

Lemme day that Funimation is worth a while but the downfall from that is complications on this app. When you have the membership let’s say the basic deal 7.99 m/ it’s pretty neet an everything you wanted no ads or anything else with it you can stream on two devices separately which worked! But sadly after my subscription ended: though a week later I went to the store bought a subscription for Funimation Store an went to my settings on my IOS an added another month, I was so excited that I couldn’t wait! But suddenly...it took my money an never given me my subscription because I had to pay last month!? Even though I already did! So I try to contact this app and everything an it didn’t help at all! Do not get me wrong anyone would be mad but I’m just generally upset! That I got my money taken away from a snap! So I had to pay twice and make another account but then I can’t get the subscription at all! Because apparently it took my money AGAIN!?
If this reaches out to anyone who has this problem as I do from buying a subscription an then later on buying another subscription again but knowing being charged twice! Then please help me I’m just trying to watch my favorite old shows!

Annoying

Funimation is worth a $5 a month subscription. Especially if anime is your go to form of entertainment. There are just too many annoyances that have come with Funimation. Between streaming on a phone and on an Xbox it’s a struggle just getting the premium subscription to work. I spent hours going back and forth between Xbox, phone and website before I eventually gave up on watching at all. Trying to cancel your subscription is a hassle. I’ve always paid through PayPal. When I cancelled my subscription I went through their help services because I had a feeling this wouldn’t die easily. Here I am a month later and they’re trying to charge my apple account now. Have I been paying for two subscriptions this whole time? Who knows. When I am able to watch Funimation 80% of the time the next episode will not start. On Xbox my controller shuts off after so much time so this is a hassle. After I turn my controller back on and restart my show the next episode never plays correctly. I always takes me to the last 5 minutes of the previous episode. Therefore, I have to go back to my queue which is glitchy in itself. Sometimes I have to search the show again entirely. If they fixed Funimation and their services it would be amazing, but they won’t and it’s not.

Needs major improvement

I’ve been giving this app a shot and have been okay but now it’s so bad it’s overwhelming and I can’t enjoy a show. Sometimes when scrolling down to the bottom of the page, then from left to right it glitches and jumps back to the top of the page as if I just opened Funimation , forcing me to go back down and scroll slowly to prevent it from doing it again. Then when I’m watching a show it restarts the whole episode, if not it goes back an entire episode and if I’m unlucky it skips a whole entire episode to the next one. When I exit Funimation it sometimes continues to play the episode in the background, which I can tell because the audio is still playing outside of Funimation . FMA isn’t even a playable show which still confuses me because it has a result for it but no episodes. For the price there shouldn’t be so many bugs and I haven’t seen an attempt to fix them.
Update: since then this app hasn’t made any improvements. In fact it’s gotten worse. I didn’t pay for one months subscription on time, which I understand I’ll be watching ads, but shortly after I paid it, got charged and I’m still watching ads. I tried to restore my purchases but it says there’s an error. It’s in my subtractions as well as Netflix so I’m positive it’s paid. Seriously Funimation needs to be improved or I’m not using it anymore.

Flawed app with potential. WAY TOO MANY ADS.

Funimation itself runs great, if you premium. The dubs are as good as the original, that is if the episode actually has a dub when it says it does. Funimation could use a little more streamlining, but that’s just me. The $5.99/month premium is 100% worth it. However, it’s also 100% necessary, and this I have a problem with. Ad breaks during episodes, if you don’t get a premium plan, are way too frequent, being every 5 minutes or so, and can contain as many as 7 ads, so you spend more time watching ads than the actual anime; and a lot of these ads are self promotion. Promoting CDs, vinyls or other merch on their store. 2-3 ads every now and then would be okay, but seeing the same ads over and over again, you’re pretty much forced to upgrade to premium, which is wrong. Sone people can’t afford $5.99/month, they shouldn’t be punished for it. In addition, limited access as well? I have to pay to watch some of the stuff I enjoy? As if it’s not annoying enough to be spammed with ads to the point that Funimation starts glitching out, or even ROTATE? Do you guys care about your customers at all, or is the point of Funimation to be a giant anime themed cash grab?

Crossing my fingers

I love the shows, I love the price, I love having dub available, I love supporting the voice actors, and I’m a Sony fanboy in general but man Funimation is awful for 2019. Very buggy, unintuitive ui, doesn’t fully support both portrait and landscape, crashes at the end of an episode, sometimes if it starts buffering you have to restart the show. And oh god who’s idea was it to have a video animation with sound play every time you open Funimation . I’m going to keep using this for the dubs but I really hope Funimation gets some deserved TLC. Model off of netflix or something. We want to get to our shows quick and seamless! Shorten the animation and make it not look like it was screen capped from a ps2, let us swipe from left to right to go back instead of it opening a menu, replace the big plus and minus buttons on title covers with a long press giving us those quick-options, give us transparent icons when in-video. I believe in you guys you have so many smart people working with you and i love you social media person reading this i hope you are good.

*also i really would like to see a dark mode

*EDIT* please fix this garbage app. I can’t even use it anymore, it crashes as soon as i press play to watch a show consistently. Had to switch to the mobile website which is just as terrible of an experience.

Amazing, but...

Funimation is amazing for people such as myself who enjoy dubbed anime. There is a large selection of anime that isn’t too bad, and most of it is dubbed.
However, my main complaints are with the layout and mechanics of Funimation . For example, there is no “skip intro” button on the anime. Not everyone wants to sit through rover a minute of intro scenes, and it would be great to simply have the option to skip it. Additionally, there is no “next episode” button. If you want to go to the next episode, you will have to either go to the episode catalog or wait for the outdo to end and then only click the option. When the next episode button does appear, it is rarely the next episode. There have been times where clicking that button has taken me to the next season of the show. It would be great if it had these buttons like Netflix does.
Apart from that, the layout of Funimation is extremely inconvenient. It’s unorganized and messy. Also, Funimation is often slow and glitchy.

Overall, I enjoy the program and will continue using it. However, I hope ether devs fix a few of these issues that I’m sure will make my and other user’s experiences better and more enjoyable.

Needs a LOT of work

Despite having a well priced service with lots of quality content, Funimation needs some serious attention from the developers. It surprises me that such a popular streaming app can still be so buggy and inconvenient when competitors have been doing the same thing better for years. I really want to like Funimation, but the issues bundled with it push me closer to finding other options.

Why can’t a show with Japanese audio have English subtitles on by default, and why must I manually turn them on for every single show? Seems like common sense for the English version of an app to include that as the default option. The video player is filled with other inconveniences like buttons that are far too small for a tablet and an options bar that can only be closed by pressing the tiny x in the corner. Half the time videos will load terribly slow despite having good enough WiFi for other streaming services.

If even a few of these problems were fixed I would be fine ditching competitors like VRV, but their ship is so tightly run in comparison that I go to them first for any non this app exclusive shows. Once the few timed exclusives I’m watching end, I plan on cancelling my subscription unless something noticeable is fixed.

A few fixes needed

Overall Funimation is good, before i went premium the free version worked just fine for what i needed. But premium is not worth it unless they fix the issues they have. No ads are always a plus, but captions are impossible to see on a phone if the episode features a bright/white background. And there are captions that are not the same as what is being said in the dub episodes. (I don’t speak japanese, so i can’t speak for the captions’ accuracy when translating a different language). But when it’s an english dub with english captions it should match up 100% of the time. Not being able to see it or read it correctly makes it virtually useless at times for hearing impaired people like members of my family who watch this app. Please add captions with a black trim or something guaranteed to be seen no matter what’s happening in the backgroun.

Also, and this is minor but this is the only video app i have that doesn’t let you watch the video horizontally whichever way your mobile device is faced. Which sometimes makes me or someone else have to watch an episode in an awkward position.

Overall, 3.5/5. Great dubs. App needs work.

App Constantly Crashes

The design layout they have it not bad from any means. However the actually functionally of Funimation is complete trash. The will constantly crash 80% of the time I use it. If you click on one thing, but quickly try to select something else, Funimation will crash. If you also click on something and Funimation takes a little to long to load it crashes.

Their offline player is complete trash compared to other anime streaming services like VRV. You can only download 13 episodes which isn’t bad, but it’s honestly not that great. Plus the shows only last for 1-2 weeks on your phone before expiring. VRV will let you download as many as you want without ever expiring. There are a lot of issues with the offline player for this app. A one issue is after you finish a episode and attempt to hit the back button to the list of shows you have downloaded Funimation will crash. If Funimation takes too long to download a show you have downloaded it crashes.

Even after their latest update to “improve the offline watching” Funimation is still complete crap. Also I know it’s not my phone since I have an iPhone 10 that is completely update with all its patches. Funimation has always been this crap from the start no matter what device you use.

Great!....but...

Personally Funimation is honestly really great! I love that your can watch on all devices and watch anime’s in English and such but I do have a few issues. Some people ( like me) either don’t have the money to subscribe or are to young to subscribe and when certain episodes or certain shows are only for people who subscribed I just feel that it isn’t really fair to the people who can’t afford it. This is my biggest issue. I know there are a few more things that you only get if you subscribe and I understand that but to have episodes only for subscribed people or certain shows is really unfair. And another issue I have which isn’t honestly a big one is the fact that some popular anime’s and shows aren’t on here like sailor moon or shaman king. And I only write reviews when I either really love an app or have issues with it and in this case it both. I also understand that you have to make money but it’s hard for some people. I really hope that something changes about this but I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings. But other than that Funimation is really amazing!!❤️❤️ great job!

Good but a problem

I really like this app, I love watching a lot of shows I like but the problem is about every 10 minutes 5 ads pop up and it bothers me. I’m okay with 1 every 10 minutes, but it’s annoying if like 5 pop up and I have to wait about 1 minute and a half or so, I mean I don’t think that you make the ads pop up on purpose, it just does. If you do then please just add 1 or 2 ads every 10 minutes. I’m not being an “Ad Hater” it’s just annoying for me, overall I really love Funimation , better then any “Anime Watching App.” Also I really hate the intro when you watch an episode and the intro for this app pops up, I really don’t like it and I’m not saying you have to delete it, I’m just giving my opinions as you know, The thing I like about Funimation is that probably all anime’s are on Funimation and all seasons, I watch anime mostly on tv and the anime’s I see that are good aren’t on there, so I mostly find them here! But I’m still really bothered and not being used to the ad pop ups, I mean, if you do this and added it purposely. It’s your choice if you could only add 1 or 2. Overall, it’s just my opinion! this app is a great, awesome app.

Terrible App

Funimation is terrible. I enjoy the shows on here and I appreciate their availability, don’t get me wrong but, the bugs on this are numerous. I cannot chose how I wish to view shows and am stuck holding my iPad “upside down” for lack of a better term. The episode lists of many shows often glitch and are made invisible. I have to close out Funimation and log back in to be able to navigate semi normally through it. The graphical lag from navigating through the show list causes Funimation to crash, when selecting a show to add to queue the list shuffles and I have to figure out where I am in the list to see if my selection stuck. Often, a different episode plays when I’ve selected what I wish to watch and what I want isn’t available because the wrong show will still play after closing out Funimation . Funimation crashes at least 3 to 5 times during an hour span of usage. Honestly taking the shows off Crunchyroll was a huge mistake and such a shame because now many of us are forced to endure the lack of usability in a scheme for money. I sadly do not have the time I’d like to have, to sit at my computer and watch, I’m constantly on the move. I want to pay for the availability of these shows, please do not misunderstand. Just give me an app that works.

Do not "shop" with these scammy scammers. I placed an order in 2020 (~$250, movies, clothing). At the end of 2021, I am still waiting. Beyond this, they have lost most of my information on their website. Past purchases no longer exist. My digital collection is not accessible. BOO! to these CRIMINALS

****DO NOT USE THIS APP**** This is he worst subscription. You can subscribe but wont get service and they will continue to take your money. They dont respond to inquiries about the issues. Not worth the hassle.
