KCRG News Reviews

I often try to stream the morning news before work. Usually after 10 minutes of commercials, which consist of pop-ups, 3 regular commercials, and several blank screen audio commercials, the news finally appears only to show that I have just missed the weather and anything else I may have been interested in watching. So my morning viewing consists of muting the annoying commercials for up to 10 minutes, then giving up on KCRGNews . Too many ads have handicapped your app and live video stream. Then there are other days when KCRGNews just loads forever and does nothing.

KCRGNews fails to load content a lot. Just get a black screen with no error messages. As for the content it has a significant number of ads imbedded as news stories. They are often disgusting ads and slimy fake subjects.

I’m still having problems with the radar. I have no play button to watch the weather move. I have a apple iPhone. I have deleted it several times and restarted phone and still the same.

Cedar Rapids native here. KCRG has always been my go-to news source. No complaints about the station and what they do. KCRGNews, though, does NOT do them justice. The good people at KCRG deserve a better app.
Half the time when it gives me a notification with “tap to learn more”, it doesn’t open properly. Frequently when I try to open KCRGNews , it gives an error message “Error Downloading Data - Please try again. If the issue persists, please try closing KCRGNews .” And it keeps popping up, even after several times closing and attempting to re-open.

Granted, there are more pressing issues in spring 2020 than to clean up KCRGNews . Just adding some honest feedback in a time when many people are tuning in to the news more frequently.

TLDR: KCRG is a great news source. KCRGNews occasionally lets you see said news.

Three words: TOO MANY ADS! When you develop an ad free experience I will consider reinstalling. I try to use KCRGNews as a supplement to the TV station. I already are your ads and I won't use my data to watch them on my phone. A Huge waste.

Now I can’t even see the news articles. Just locks with advertisements. Also would be nice to have a local news option button to screen out all the stories from all over that are not relevant to Cedar Rapids.

App often crashes, push notifications don’t always link to the right article or any article at all. Ads that look like news stories are misleading for some and contain a lot of false information that appears endorsed by KCRG. Not great for a credible news source.

...distracting from an otherwise fairly good weather app. Sadly, this will no longer be my first go to weather app any longer. I recommend the owners deciding on if they want to be in the advertising industry or actually provide a newsworthy service.

KCRGNews actually continues to decline. I have an iPhone 11 that is up to date on the OS. KCRGNews will open but clicking on the news link will cause KCRGNews to crash. This has been happening for months, even prior to the last two os updates.

What good is live streaming of the news when you never seem to do it. Every time I went to use it there was nothing showing. This was during the normal news cast time frame.

KCRGNews is clunky, the steaming quality is not good, and yet it has a ton of ads. They need to provide an ad free option subscription right after they hire new app devs. Oh, and zero useful information on how KCRGNews uses your data.

Even with location services set to “Never,” KCRGNews accesses your location. I have never seen another app with so many disruptive adds. They take the whole screen, they pop up in front of the text, they clutter the page. This is an advertising app with occasional snippets of news. Use a browser.

I had issues with KCRGNews and deleted it to reload. KCRGNews says it requires iOS 9 or better. I have 9.3.5 which is current for my generation iPad but KCRGNews says it is not compatible with my iPad now. Guess I'll have to rely on CBS2 for my news and weather from now on. Things sure have changed since Gray took over, and not for the better.

Since the last update, I have to have location service turned on to get KCRGNews to load. I keep location services turned off to conserve data and battery. I normally like KCRGNews , but this is frustrating. I don’t know if it is on all devices, but I use Apple products.

While trying to listen to the live newsfeed at work, I will usually give up after ten minutes of commercial loops. By the time I can finally get the news, most of what I wanted to hear about has already passed. Time to remove KCRGNews. I'm giving this one star, because it won't allow a zero star rating.

I can hardly stand to use KCRGNews any more. I love KCRG, but I’d rather pay money than browse through more ads than news stories. You already lost my husband that way, and that’s sad. Also, KCRGNews crashes all the time.

Really disappointed with the fact that KCRGNews doesn’t work most of the time!!

App keeps crashing while trying to read news stories or playing videos. Please fix.

I would love it if the Livestream portion of KCRGNews actually worked. It freezes and won’t turn on more times than it actually works. It’s how I get my news and weather in the morning and I get frustrated when it refuses to work.

Seems with every update KCRGNews crashes. Have to delete and reinstall consistently. I have better luck reading your stuff on Facebook

I can’t even view a news report any longer. It crashes every time that I choose news. I uninstalled an reinstalled. It still doesn’t work. iOS latest version. The good news is that I won’t miss all of the ads.

It’s utterly disgraceful to see a news organization consistently publish stories with so many grammatical and punctuation errors. Do you have any editors?

Weather is pretty useless. Give me a forecast...in words...for the next 24 hours. Also, if you are predicting record highs or lows, follow up on it. People are actually interested to know if we had new records.
