Better than duet

I am using this in two ways: as a mirrored touchscreen display, and a second (and third) display. First off, YamDisplayFree works perfectly. The only problem I was running into was that the virtual Touch Bar was a little finicky, but I realized that “Automatically hide and show the dock” has to be on. Once I figured that out, everything else came together and now I am very impressed with YamDisplayFree. It’s responsive, and there are so many options for resolution. It even gives my standalone MacBook Air (no iPads connected) an on-screen Touch Bar, but that wasn’t using the mobile app. Definitely 5 stars, even the free version with interruptions. Not super annoying, and they don’t undo any display settings or delete unsaved work. Anyway definitely still buying the paid versions. Very pleased.

Did not work properly for me.

I was able to mirror my older MacBook to my new iPad, but I was not able to control my MacBook with my IPad. My MacBook has a broken screen and I have to connect it to an external monitor. I was hoping I could just keep it closed and plug it into my iPad to see and control it. Unfortunately it didn’t work, maybe if I connected it a different way? I connected from my MacBooks USB-A to my IPads USB-C. Maybe if I went from MacBooks Thunderbolt(mini display port) to IPads USB-C (if that’s possible) would I get better results? I don’t have chords/adaptors for that, don’t want to spend money unless I know it will work. I tried tweaking what is mirrored on my computer, that was a mistake, fixing things afterwards is too complicated to explain, but I’m not pleased. I just keep thinking, if I had bought that computer a few months later, I would be able to use side car and I wouldn’t have to deal with the useless third party apps.

Good app

YamDisplayFree is great compared to most other dual monitor apps because most cost money upfront or have a service which is annoying. This one doesn’t cost money and can be used indefinitely. Plus it comes with features that the paid version of YamDisplayFree has as well.

Some things I really like about YamDisplayFree is being able to use my iPad wirelessly or wired, changed the refresh rate, be able to use the screen of the iPad as a mouse (there are swipe testers too), and having the ability of use YamDisplayFree as a mini player or have YamDisplayFree and another open at the same time. (Some dual monitor apps don’t have that supported)

The only thing that I consider annoying is being booted of my session. You have 7 minutes per session, and it can be annoying to be interrupted. But, getting another session is really quick and easy.

Overall I’d consider buying the paid version of YamDisplayFree because it is actually pretty good.

Works Great; better than Duet

This free version is fantastic. You get the same experience as the paid version, except for an interruption every 7 minutes, which is the perfect amount of annoyance that if you really can't afford to pay it's still totally livable.

I've also used Duet display, which is more expensive than even the paid version of this Yam, but Yam is much better. Yam has more resolution options, moderately better performance, and support for split-screen multitasking on supported iPads, a great feature that Duet lacks.
If you don't need to use this with windows, I highly suggest Yam over Duet.

It’s pretty good

I think this has the best free version for a second display for iPhone/IPad available and a great paid version too! The free version the same as the paid version except you need to press a button on your device every 7 minutes. The paid version does not have this “issue”. Based on these facts, I would rate it 4.5, but I can only vote whole stars so I rounded it to 5 stars. Definitely would get the paid version but I can’t afford it at the moment. Also there is no ads so that’s a nice feature.

5 stars for a free app that does what it says!

I'm mainly reviewing YamDisplayFree to see if it gives more time on sessions like it says. I am probably going with another higher renowned app for this if I do end up having to purchase. I thought it was against Apple's Section 2 to give perks or compensation for app reviews, but your wording did say that I could do this "If I liked YamDisplayFree " so it's probably legal at least lol. It's a good app though! 7 mins isn't long enough to tell you how well it works but I'll leave another review should I love it.

Works well enough

I've just tried it for a bit, YamDisplayFree prompted me to review it or buy it, so I'd say it works pretty well, I'm using a Macbook Air 2015 with an iPad Air 2, a recommendation for those with similar products: run it in the 30 FPS power saving mode rather than 60 FPS as I found that 60 FPS was quite laggy on the iPad. Also, there is quite a bit of lag when opening Mission Control, but if you can stand that or don't use Mission Control often it should be good.

Easy to use and stable

If you are unable to use sidecar, you have found your solution. The free version works well enough for a short time. The only downside to the free version is that every 5-8 minutes you are asked to buy the real version and need to reconnect (a 2 second process). I highly recommend YamDisplayFree and may buy the full paid version. YamDisplayFree is stable and there is no lag

Ipad2 with MacBook Air

I spent a whole day looking for ways to make my IPad2 useful and most of the other paring apps cannot accept IOS 3.10 lower. I am so happy I found YamDisplayFree that is both free and simple to use. There were a bit of difficulty in trying to figure out how to solve the problem of installing on my Mac, but when you email help center, they respond very quickly and my problem is now solved and using the two monitors happily!

This app is amazing, works with my old iPad

I really needed a dual display app that works with my old iPad 3 or 3rd generation. There are a lot of dual display apps, but there aren't a lot that work with old iPads.

YamDisplayFree makes my iPad work perfectly as a second monitor! Now I can still get a lot of use out of an iPad that Apple considers "obsolete"

The seven minute time out is a minor inconvenience, and honestly YamDisplayFree is worth paying for!

Good

Its a pretty cool app! It works p well, the only issue for me is that sometimes the screen flashes or like it blacks out for a second... idk what the cause is. I was considering finding alternative ways to get my ipad 7th gen to be a second screen to my macbook air 2016 but i didnt want to risk my products by messing w patches lol leaving a review to see if it allows me to have a longer time period to use it before it stops

So far I’m liking it!

There is a little bit of lag when using my iPad for the 2nd monitor, but I am still on first day of using it so maybe I’m missing something to improve that. I was using another app but the mouse was no longer visible on the 2nd monitor, making it impossible to use. I was glad to see the cursor arrow on my iPad right away on YAM and it looks like this will be my go to app for 2nd display now. Thanks!

It is ok

Well, YamDisplayFree works. I do appreciate having free option to try, because I was not sure if I would like using iPad as a second monitor. It is definitely convenient:) YamDisplayFree lags a bit, but still usable and adds value to my productivity. Hopefully after the review it stops disrupting my session every 7 mins. If they didn't interrupt my session, I would give YamDisplayFree 5 stars

Nice!

One of those perfect little one use utilities. Says what it does, and does what it says.

Gives you a portable extra screen for your laptop, with touch capability as a nice bonus.
Uses your iPad's usb cord to connect, and even charges your iPad while your working.
Screen lag is mostly unnoticeable when used as a simple supplemental screen for email, excel, word, webpages etc...

Use a good cable

Pretty amazing how this extends the display of my new Apple Silicon MacBook Air to an old Retina 2 iPad Mini. Lag is slightly noticeable but not a problem. I was having trouble maintaining a connection when using a $2.50 Lightning cable I bought from an online retailer of women’s clothing, but no trouble when using a genuine data cable.

Works well for my Mac

The free version works well. And seven minutes is acceptable. Since it keeps asking me to give review or buy it, I’d like to give this 4 star review before I use the paid version.
I have a MacBook Air 2015, it works smoothly but sometimes it makes my Mac so hot that the fan inside keeps making noise. I don’t know what’s the reason. Overall, it worth a good review.

The best of the free

This one is one of the best one you can use for free. I just wish you can use the Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity with the iPad as a monitor.

Also the 7 minute thing is annoying, but I still won’t buy the paid version because at that point just get the duo monitor thing.

Seems to work well Mac-to-IPad

I tried it out on a Mid-2012 MacAir and IPad 2 and there was no lag. The only issue is the command center top bar is messed up, but to have it as a single use second monitor is great. I use 2 monitors at work and this is a great option when I am working remotely to get the same feel.

OK

I was going to wait and get a little more experience before writing a review but since it keeps demanding I write one or buy the paid version every seven minutes, here goes. It works. The cursor is not laggy, but anything you do on the iPad is very laggy - i.e. If you move a window or run the cursor over the apps in the dock, there is a very big lag. I haven't used any other similar apps to compare.

Works Great!

Tried many ways to connect my 2015 Mac Air to my iPad for a second monitor. Easy to set up, works well. I will be purchasing the full version so I don’t have to reconnect every 7 minutes.

Simple and Effective

A perfect, simple app to get a second monitor quite easily. Hardly any setup is required -- it just starts working almost as soon as you start it up. Would very highly recommend over more expensive solutions like Luna or Duet.

Great app to have an additional screen

Very useful to have documents open on my ipad while I work on another on on my macbook air. I bought the paid version too since it is not very expensive. It works best with Mac OS Mojave, in High Sierra it is a bit less optimal.

Very Handy

Hooked up my iPad, its display responsiveness via USB cable is decent, good enough to serve as a supplementary display, if you are reasonable (i.e. using it to view web pages and not high performance gaming). This is a nice solution for those who don't want to lug their 21 inch monitor with their laptop on the go
