Splashtop Wired XDisplay – Extend & Mirror Reviews

I have an old broken iPad 2 that is still on iOS 9. It doesn’t have wifi, so it is close to being useless. Until, that is, I installed Splashtop Xdisplay.

I no longer have any computer monitors lying around since I stopped using desktops years ago; but recently, I picked up a budget machine without a monitor. After installing SplashtopWiredXDisplay onto my broken iPad with the usb cable and an old version of iTunes, I then used my tv to install the server end of xdisplay on my computer. I set the display to mirror mode and disconnected my tv. Now I have a tiny monitor for my computer! It can boot up, connect to usb after a few seconds, and then I can login to Windows like usual.

My only criticism is that it uses about 25% of my cpu to function, and there doesn’t seem to be any setting for using the gpu instead. Yes, there is some lag, but it is a virtual display after all.

Quite honestly, this is the BEST integration between Apple/Microsoft products that I have ever used.

Works well, feels smoothly, just some little milliseconds of delay; the only problem is that I think that the CPU usage its too big, I looked at process manager and Splashtop uses almost all the time 30% of my CPU, It’s my first monitor extender, I don’t know if it’s normal, but that’s a big sacrifice on a 2014 intel i3. I was thinking on buy the HD version in order to enjoy my full iPad’s screen, but I don’t know if it will worth it.

Very pleasantly surprised to find out it stays active even when you don't have SplashtopWiredXDisplay open in the foreground. I needed to use a Windows laptop as a second monitor (because I don't want to go buy a dedicated monitor when there's a perfectly fine screen on my l other laptop), so I just open a screen sharing app and have it focus on this display, and I can still use my iPhone as normal while SplashtopWiredXDisplay runs in the background.

I've had SplashtopWiredXDisplay for sometime with my iPad and have been satisfied with it. Seeing that it is offered now for iPhone, I thought I would buy it to use as a small 3rd monitor. WRONG. You can use the iPad or the iPhone; but you can't use the iPad AND the iPhone. They tell you in the requirements that you need at least one open USB port for your Lightning cable. What they should say is that you only need one USB port because that is all you are ever going to use. Glad I only wasted $2.00 on it.

Doesn’t work and if you go to support on their website it’s plastered with posts saying people can’t get it to work with different generations of iPads and MacBooks, MacBook Pros, several of Mac OS and having tried several of the solutions there and emailed support I’ve yet to receive an answer and a solution.
I’m surprised as I’ve used some of the company’s other software without issuers.
Ultimately you’re better if paying for one of the competitors solutions that work or wait for the next Mac OS where it’s built in. Trying to get this to work when it pretty much should be plug and play is a hassle.

It works well it just has 2 black bars that the screen can take up but it dose not and it is annoying but it works great

I didn’t expect much since SplashtopWiredXDisplay was free, but it actually worked instantly and had barely noticeable latency.

It worked perfectly and let me configure it as I pleased. Great for multitasking but not great for gaming as the frame rate of SplashtopWiredXDisplay doesn’t support 60fps, but it’ll work great for normal office usage and video streaming.

Works great easy to setup. It has a lotnot lag unless you run Very low resolution. Would like a couple more options for frame rate and resolution. Using it for fpv flight training so resolution isn't as important and frame rate.
All in all its the best free option without a doubt.

Set quality to high in the settings and this turns your iPhone into a mini usb display. Awesome.

It also allows for touch input, which is really helpful. Now I can setup Cubase with a mini mixer screen on top of my MIDI controller when I’m working. I do wish you could switch between mouse pad and touch input though

It works! Using windows 10, use it as a second monitor and touch works on the iPad. Amazing thank you developers. Helped me use an old ipad as a touch screen for my photobooth! Easy install. Just download on both iPad and windows and that’s it! Highly recommend!

Using Surface Pro, Win10, tried it a year ago and was not with the effort. Tried again based on a new review, it’s better, not worth the effort for the screen size losing an inch off my IPad Pro top in landscape and more than that off the side in portrait mode. Also noted, it does not charge when plugged in and SplashtopWiredXDisplay is running plus you have to install iTunes which I did not want.

Love this, it’s a solution I was hoping for months ago. Features adequate responsiveness.
The disadvantage is that it lacks sound output to the connected device.
Can’t complain because it’s a display feature by name.

I wish I had read the reviews before installing SplashtopWiredXDisplay. It did what it’s supposed to do, but when I turned my phone horizontal my computer’s display also turned 90 degrees. Unplugging my phone and restarting the computer did not fix the problem. I uninstalled the companion app from my computer and restarted and that solved the issue. But that wasn’t easy to do while looking at the screen sideways. :-)

Every two minutes SplashtopWiredXDisplay restarts and moves my tabs to my primary monitor. This DOES NOT make my life easier. I have to move my tabs every two minutes back to my second monitor. How does this help make work easier? I set my iPad Air (3rd gen) to never locking on the screen and it didn’t make a difference. Not sure why people are rating SplashtopWiredXDisplay so highly. It’s not good.

SplashtopWiredXDisplay just works, and I don’t have any problems with it, but sometimes it just wants to disconnect for a bit. other than that, This is great.

SplashtopWiredXDisplay is great, it makes working on the computer faster. I can open multiple documents and look at all of them at the same time.

It mirrored my screen, but I wanted to extend my screen instead and I didn't see that option. It doesn't officially support the iPad, so you won't be able to use the entire iPad screen. If I didn't have those issues, I would give it a 5 star rating.

works great with iphone 7+. perfect for having videos playing on it or having voice call windows open on it.

If you intend to use it with a MacBook, don’t bother. It will do what I have never seen another app do to a Mac: it makes it crash, every single time. It will make your MacBook or Mac force-restart every single time you try to connect your iPhone or iPad to it. It works OK with PC, though. For that it gets two stars.

I like it. I’ve used Duet Display and had a blast with that one. This one just gets the job done. Can’t really complain about that one.

If this if your first time experiencing a crash? I’m sure it’s with SplashtopWiredXDisplay.

so after downloading maybe after a short ten minutes or so, I changed the display and it crashed my computer, not to mention the fact it randomly turns the screen black sometimes,

It does what it says for free. No issues, no problems so far
