A god sent for our org

this app has been a god sent for our small dog rescue non-profit. Staying in communication about dogs health, medications, behavior changes, adoptions, announcements, tasks etc in the moment and to plan for the future is crucial. this app allows a separate work space in our phones that not only keeps everyone up to speed but allows lots of feedback opportunities amongst staff that we previously didn’t have. We are obsessed with this program. It is worth every penny! I don’t know what we would do without it.

The only change I would ask for is notifications options for Campfire chat messages.

Easy to use but no product updates in 3 years

I’ve been using this app with my company for 3 years or so. It’s really easy to use. Easy to make projects, group chats, etc. creating tasks and assigning them are easy as well, however it is a bit simple.

There really isn’t any customization at all. My biggest problem is that you can’t silence group pings (chats). People are constantly double texting, and it sends a notification for each message.

There isn’t really anyway to set up workflows. You just make lists of to-dos and assign them but there isn’t any conditional functions or order to it.

You can’t lock certain things on Basecamp or have any admin control. For example, any user in a project or team can delete the project/team and put it in the trash! It’s not hard to recover, but still, poor functionality.

There is no dark mode.

I’ve left messages with the support team about some of these issues but they just say “that’s a really good idea” and then nothing happens. It just seems like Basecamp won’t really ever get a real update.

Unfortunately I have to keep using Basecamp because I’m not the boss, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with teams bigger than 10 people.

Wonderful Small Business management tool

I use this for a student organization at my college, but I can tell that it would be an amazing tool for a small-midsize business looking to keep on top of everything. It helps organize, plan, and stay in the loop, AND their customer service is fantastic. Couple that with new additions that only improve the experience and never seem to complicate things, and I'm so glad I found this app. Everyone in my organization loves it. I can't say whether it works for larger businesses, but for smaller groups it's perfect.

Last update has left connectivity issues

I’ve been using Basecamp over a year now and it’s worked well with the exception of a few nagging issues. After the last update, I am repeatedly getting a reconnecting message when trying to ping someone (as if I’m not connected to the web). Force closing Basecamp and reopening is the only way to get rid of the error.
Creating group pings are nice but it would be great if you could pin that group text thread for regular use without have to create yet another team.
The structure takes a bit to get used to but for the most part, it’s a great communication platform. It is difficult to find where a ping originated from at times.
Highlights
Ability to post PDF documents ion preview mode - no need to download and open, just view as a pic.
To Do’s assignable to team members with notifications and categorized/grouped
Comments after announcements to organize conversations
Mobile app notifications are instantaneous
Ability to ping documents back and forth quickly

Suggestion to developers

Love Basecamp! Provides a great mobile experience that replicates the desktop experience.

One suggestion for the developers: please change the write message function so that the user can see the message they are replying to. I’ve found myself often having to close the message I’m writing just to see what the previous message was that I’m writing my reply to.

Other than that Basecamp and software is amazing!

Great, but a couple bugs

We've been using this app for years and have been very happy with it. Our team has never had a problem with Basecamp until recently.

1. Answering Automatic Check-ins on Basecamp posts answers for the following day instead of for the current day. This is indicated by an "Update" button/link instead of a "Save" button/link. This happens with a few of our team members. Support hasn't been able to figure this out.

2. Notifications have started to become inconsistent. Badge notifications stopped appearing even though I had notifications in Basecamp . I deleted Basecamp and reinstalled thinking that would help (it did not). I ended up removing my device from notifications, deleted Basecamp and reinstalled. This helped, but now I'm getting notifications I didn't get before (which is probably a setting. I'm still figuring this out).

Overall, great app. The two points above are the only gripes I've had with it.

Image Attachment in iOS very buggy

I kinda hate Basecamp simply because I can’t reliably attach a screen shot from my iPhone. Basecamp is so buggy in this regard that I can’t use it for anything beyond simple text interaction. Without the ability to reliably attach screen shots or other images from my iPhone, Basecamp is little more than a tool to post text-only comments to this app.

Basecamp asks me to select from my iPhone which images I want to pull in. Then I click “done” and the images I just selected don’t show up as options for upload/attachment. I mean…come on. It’s 2022. We ought to be able to easily attach an image from my ooo home. I mean, come on!

New to it but loving it so far

I just recently decided to give his a try. I run a small business and need to have an easier way to keep in touch with everyone since we are always doing so much. We never have time to have meetings to go over things since we are all wearing so many hats. So far this has worked great and I don’t believe we have scratched the surface of its capabilities. I only gave it a 4 since I am new to it and haven’t fully experienced things to feel I can rate it quite accurately but I will get back after a month of use and update with more info!

Pay $99/mo for abandoned software

this app 3 is basically abandoned at this point. Staples of project management software that customers have requested for years like timeline/gantt views, a functional calendar, recurring tasks, workflow automations, improved email capabilities, reasonable integration with other business apps, etc, have fallen on the deaf ears of basecamps’s snarky customer support team for years. Yes they claim to be working on “version 4” but won’t say what will be included or when it’s coming. The “improvements” they’ve released so far are small cosmetic updates mostly to the web experience. Really a shame because aesthetically this app is very pleasing to use but it’s now the runt of the litter.

The perfect solution for dynamic remote teams

Early flawless app....

And re: this app

I run a global remote team and had tried every single thing out there to manage the whole team in one place. this app does exactly what we need. We also work with so many partners, contractors and outsiders, so the fact that they don’t charge per person is god-sent and truly understanding the needs of remote work. Slack and all the other trendy apps completely miss the point. Thanks this app!

Perfect for FIRST Robotics Teams

this app is the perfect fit for our teams. Its the perfect balance of chat, to dos management, docs and files sharing and team message board. The mobile and desktop app are working flawlessly and making project management a lot easier.

The best part is that it teaches students real time collaborations and allow us to break down projects in smaller team. Highly recommend!

Great app - Needs Dark mode!

I love this app, my company uses it and we have loved it. We switched over from Slack due to price, and have actually had a better experience in the long run.
The only reason I am rating 4 stars and not 5 is because I really want to see dark mode. this app is one of the only apps I regularly use that doesn’t have it. Would love to see that feature, as it has in some ways become standard in Basecamp world.

Lol Asana

Please don’t make the mistake I did and “think” Asana would be a better fit. On the surface, Asana has more enticing features but it lacks soul. It’s weird to say that, but it’s so true. this app is very simplistic but has an aura about it that makes it extremely user friendly and keeps the team chemistry alive. If they could improve the calendar feature (better views), it would make it unstoppable!

Intuitive and useful, mostly

I’m on the production side of this app and find the task calendaring to be lacking. It would be really nice to see a week or month on a grid calendar and compare it to other people’s workloads. It’s also frustrating that you can’t transfer or publish uploaded files to the “docs and files” section of a project. But the client side of the program is great, and overall it’s a wonderful tool for keeping a lot of people moving forward in an organized fashion. Basecamp notification setup is good.

Very useful but needs interface improvement

Basecamp is very useful for team work but it still needs much more clarity in each page and in each subcategory. Private messaging between team members is tricky and unclear as to how to make sure only intended user gets it. It seems in some pages or subgroups you can ping a member and in others you can’t.
A better master menu of all subgroups per project, with a drop down list of action options could be better.
Thank you for reading.

Growing business a must

This is a great app for businesses large and small especially for dealing with the paper work and updated labor laws etc, you can share information company wide or even by store, comes in great use during rough weather and even holidays to keep your employees or bosses up to date as to what's going on at your location.

Pretty decent for a non-native app

3D/Haptic Touch options, links in emails that open Basecamp , not a terrible and RAM hungry Mac app. No crashes so far.

The only complaints I have are if the Mac app is open, then you don’t get a reminder email or notification for checking in. And the command+J search option doesn’t provide the six options listed in each project on the default list before you type anything. Would make things a bit faster. Although you can search for them, of course. The team has taken advantage of just about every menu.

Bugs:
1/ notifications aren’t always reliable
2/ messaging looks underdeveloped

Awesome service

I use it to manage all my projects, from business to personal. Since there is unlimited project, $99/month is actually worthwhile. Everything from planning a trip to launching a new product can become a project on this app. And, the people you involve in one project can’t see anything in another project if they are not invited.

Great software

We use Basecamp to manage service calls and I love the calendar to create call reports. We are a small company so the default settings work well for us. I don't know if it can be truely customized for templates and things but it should be able to if you wanted an API. Also it is very fast for a cloud based service

By

Perfect

Just started started using this app & am very pleased. I've never been able to stick with any PM software but wind up reverting to a range of cobbled options-- I can't see that happening here though, it all feels so easy and appropriate to my needs. Kinda too psyched, lol.

Everything’s great minus the messaging

I really do enjoy Basecamp and it’s great for coordinating. However the only thing that I wish the would fix and improve is the notifications for messaging. Sometimes people receive the notifications and sometimes no. If the feature was more like an instant messaging then it would make communication easier with the teams. I did send them an email about this but their only response was that “no this is not something that can be done.” That is why I did not give them 5 stars, because with technology advancing and for them not to have this feature doesn’t make this product complete. All of this is of course in my opinion.

Brilliant Solution

Basecamp has helped eliminate costs for multiple apps and the headaches of making those apps communicate. It is easy to use which is important in my companies work environment, and it has the functionality we were looking for. My company is Little Pink Houses of America and we love this app!
