Same as other reviews

The meditations are great and the right program for me. But exactly as others mentioned: the music is glitchy and distracting, sometimes the voice cuts off and repeats, the wake bell disappeared after day two, so the voice is startling. Most annoying to me is the learning videos after the session have no sound. They have recorded and loaded dozens of videos that are useless because unless you read lips, you can’t hear what he is saying. I agree with others, it seems like fairly simple fixes, I’m not sure why there is no motivation to fix. I did email app support as well.

The meditation lessons are great but…

The lessons are great and I’m hoping the 30 day challenge is as well. But the other content is unavailable. If I try to watch a video I get an error that the video can’t be loaded. Same error if I try to download the video. The library articles are just a title with no content. Also, when you make a journal entry or try to submit a ticket you can’t dismiss the keyboard so you can hit continue. On the journal you can hit the back arrow and when you go forward from the prior page your entry is there and you can then hit continue. There is no back arrow for submitting a ticket however so I am describing the issues here in the hope that the developers will notice.

Used to work great, some bugs now.

Started up meditating again and restarted the 12 steps, when I completed the second day there were a few hiccups during the session where it paused for a second and then paused and actually tracked back so the speaker repeated himself. Then when I got to the end, it paused and stopped and went back to the beginning and never recorded that I actually completed the session. So it says I still need to complete step 2.

So I went ahead the last two days and just went for meditation timer since I had already been through the 12 steps and 30 day challenge a while back. It doesn’t show on 1GiantMind , nor on my iPhone health or fitness that I’ve completed any sessions these last couple days. And I’ve double checked that I’m synced.

Just some minor bugs, the meditation is for me whether it shows up as “recorded proof” or not. But something to look at maybe.

Good Starter Meditation Program

I’m new to meditation, on Day 2 of the 30 day challenge, that comes after the 12 day tutorial. I’ve tried Headspace, Insight Timer, and this. It you want to be verbally guided for the entire sessions, both of the other two mentioned are good, some may prefer that, although Headspace seems to insist on a subscription after the tutorial.

What sets this apart is that while there is guidance, it’s not for most of the session time and you can do what I imagined meditation to be about a solo experience of self introspection with a focal point whether it be a mantra or just focus on breathing.

While I don’t agree or disagree about using a mantra, which this course teaches (using a mantra), I’ve found I prefer not to introduce an artificial focal point, a sound I create, but instead to focus on breathing which is natural, a natural sound that I have found to be a better choice. Once you can hear your heart beating, you can also use that as a focal point.

Anyway, a thumbs up for 1GM, let the journey continue! :D

Get the basics of meditation.

If you’ve thought, “I’ve always wanted to learn to meditate,” then you should give 1GiantMind a try. The benefits of meditation are long-listed, but there’s also a lot of these providers. For one, 1GiantMind is free, and there are no in-app purchases. You don’t have to sit through constant upgrade messages.

1GiantMind features 12-step one-a-day lessons for you to learn to meditate. It’s a gradual immersion into how to cultivate the mindset to meditate. If you’re able to dedicate the time to do it every day, then I think you’ll be able to learn. Give it a shot, it’s super helpful, and what do you have to lose?

It’s gotten me to meditate consistently

I had 1GiantMind installed for months before I committed to using it during a stressful period and I’m glad I did. 1GiantMind makes it effortless. I feel like I’m on an island of 15 minutes where I can’t mess up as long as I’m being effortless and meditation is good for me. It helps me relax and I think it has improved my mood over the past 15 days.

I think this can become a regular part of my routine. I’ve increased the time of the meditation too. The journal in 1GiantMind and the videos on different experiences have been useful too since a few of those videos were relevant to me.

Really Enjoying

First off, let me say I have been using headspace on and off for 2 years. I quickly found I absolutely enjoy mantra based much more and find that I am much more relaxed and less engaged in cognitive thought than I was in headspace. The educational videos that are after the meditation are very helpful in deciphering your meditation experience. They assure you that whatever your experience, it’s normal and help take away our innate quality to criticize ourselves and judge our experience. Give this a try, you may really like the difference in meditation style.

So Good for Those Who Aren’t Sure if They’re “doing it right”

I’ve been practicing meditation on my own for two years without a teacher, and I always judge my meditation sessions as “wrong” or “bad.” I feel like I haven’t made much progress in the two years I’ve been practicing because I really didn’t know what I was doing, or how exactly to do it, etc. I feel like I’ve made more progress in the seven days since I’ve been using 1GiantMind than in the previous two years combined. Love 1GiantMind and love this type of meditation. It works well for me. If you haven’t had luck with other meditation apps, give this one a go.

By far the best meditation app Ive used

I am seriously impressed on every level. I have tried and practiced a myriad of meditation techniques over the past 10 years in hopes of finding the one that sticks. When I assessed my journey, the type of meditation that worked best for me was Vedic. By the time I realized it, I needed a refresher but I was living on the other side of the world and no longer had access to a teacher. I found 1GiantMind and I am floored by how perfectly it teaches this technique. I had no idea an app could be this thorough and simple at the same time. This is a real gift to people. I HIGHLY recommend this program.

Grateful for this app

Coming from a Zazen background, I spent many hours researching non-directive/mantra meditation, and had a really hard time finding any resources that would not charge you an arm and a leg to just get a sense of what the practice entailed. It seemed like every outlet wanted to charge some exorbitant amount of money "to help" me , and frankly where the amount was not even that high, the intent did not feel genuine and was justified as "making sure that only people who are truly interested have access to the materials". Not so here. 1GiantMind is free, the instructions are clear and don't try to load you with a bunch of baggage.

Terrific App

Don’t look any further than 1GiantMind if you want to learn to meditate effortlessly and have deep meditation. I’ve had decades of experience with meditation and during that time explored and practiced many different techniques, and nothing exceeds this for what it promises. Excellent guidance during each of the 12 steps explaining what may happen during your sessions. There are lots of FAQs to address issues and concerns you may have. Options are available for how long you want to meditate for, and whether you want background music to play or not. Whatever you choose each session gives guidance at the beginning of your sessions to lead you into proper practice as well as guidance into ending meditation. It’s like sitting with an expert who is always there to ensure good practice is established and maintained. 5 stars aren’t enough. I salute whoever came up with this, and am grateful they aren’t looking to exploit people who think they have to pay a lot of money in order to learn an effective technique. Don’t waste money on anything else when you can get the best there is for free.

Excellent - and affordable! - mantra meditation

This is an awesome - free!!! - meditation app. Jonni is a very soothing and reassuring teacher. I like that there are 12 intro lessons where he guides you on the practice. He’s more present in the first few sessions but gradually pulls back. The technique is pretty easy to pick up and there are many good videos to address common issues or experiences people have when they are starting a meditation habit. The 30 day challenge is great for building meditation into your routine. The mantra based style has worked well for me because I like the idea of a practice being effortless - letting the thoughts in your head be released and using the mantra to anchor you. Let Jonni be your guide to less stress and a more clear mind!

I like this better than headspace

I’ve been using headspace for over a year and wanted to give this a shot after researching mantra meditation. I would like to preface this with the fact that I’ve only been on 1GiantMind for 6 days. There are some clear and subtle differences between the meditation promoted in headspace and 1GM:

1) “gently return after noting” vs “effortlessly return”: I find that the latter (1GM) prevents me from experiencing tension while the former (headspace) seems to almost ask me to put an effort to return to my breath even if my mind wants to explore the distracting thought a little more. In 1GM, it’s perfectly okay to let the emotions and thoughts play out. Headspace, although not quite explicit in it, has a more judgmental attitude to these thoughts and emotions. These two phrases are further elaborated upon in the respective apps.

2) “breath” vs “mantra”: sometimes the breath isn’t enough to keep me grounded because of the mental activity in my brain. The mantra helps me center that residual mental activity further as I synchronize the mantra with my breath.

Most effective meditation app I’ve tried

I’ve tried many of the meditation apps over the past five years, including both free and paid ones. 1GiantMind was recommended to me by two separate mental health professionals and I’m glad I finally gave it a try. Everyone is different, but I struggled with meditation for a long time due to being a generally hyper focused and goal oriented person. 1GiantMind does a really good job of clarifying the details and basics of how to meditate and made it a lot easier for me to commit to it. Also, I like how it is structured and does not have endless content that becomes overwhelming and distracting. Would absolutely recommend it to someone looking for a straightforward way to get into meditation.

Thank you for this fantastic app

I am grateful to Johnnie and his team for making 1GiantMind and offering it for free, in the age of subscription economy. I find the technique very effective, and easy to practice. I have been using 1GiantMind for a couple of years and have benefited tremendously. I just wish that I had the discipline to use it every day. I agree with other reviewers on one improvement that should be made - replace the end-of-meditation bell with a more gentle sound to avoid abrupt startling from a meditative state. My workaround is to keep the volume to absolute minimum. Other than that, between Johnnie’s soothing voice, the effortless technique and included analysis videos, it’s a fantastic app. BTW, I also find that meditating once or twice during long flights helps minimize jet lag and other fatigue.

Great App for Beginning Meditation

Of the few Introductory meditation programs that I have used, I prefer the 1 Giant Mind app. In the first few sessions I must admit that I did not care for the mantra that is used (ahem), but I have gotten past that at this point. I have used 1GiantMind to spring board into other meditation techniques that incorporate more breathing methods. But I dont believe I would have gotten to that point without beginning here at 1 Giant Mind. Of course, I have been going through a paradigm shift in my own world right now (in trying "to be younger next year"), and have changed my diet to go with it, so I am sure that this also plays into the results that I have had... but for me, the change in diet along with the introduction to meditation go hand in hand, and I feel better than I have in years.

Fantastic app for learning effortless meditation

1GiantMind is a great tool for teaching an effortless meditation technique that allows the body to naturally move towards deeper states of rest. The technique taught is not mindfulness meditation but instead a technique that utilizes the mind’s innate capacity to slow down and become more quiet when given the proper conditions. It's a wonderful tool to help mitigate the effects of the stresses that are all to common in daily life. 1GiantMind does a great job thoroughly teaching the technique and has additional learning resources to enhance understanding of the bodymind’s ability to release stress. Unfortunately, 1GiantMind is still a little buggy but it's completely usable and free so still worthy of a five star rating. Highly recommended if you want the benefits of meditation in an easy to learn and practice technique, especially if, in the past, you've found mindfulness meditation difficult or not very fruitful.

Try this app first!! It really is the best!

I’ve been trying meditation for a few months now with different apps, different styles, & different teachers. And have to say this is by far the best and actually makes me feel good like I am accomplishing my meditation! The list of reflections after every meditation has been truly helping!! It helps me to understand when something new happens during a meditation, it’s a good thing and explains why. Whereas before I always thought I was doing something wrong or it wasn’t working for me. Ever since I realized this I’ve been able to continue with it and actually look forward to it!
So thanks for making 1GiantMind available and for taking the time to realize what people go thru when starting out and letting us know it’s normal and in fact good!!
I recommend 1GiantMind to anyone trying meditation for the first time...it really is the best!!

Glad my doctor recommended this app

I am recovering from an accident, and my occupational therapist mentioned meditation to help with anxiety. I learned mindfulness meditation twenty years ago and loved it, but fell out of practice. However, 1GiantMind she recommended cost more than I can afford on top of medical bills. I’m so glad I told my doctor that, as she herself had just started using 1GiantMind. I’ve never done mantra meditation before, but I like it and am finding the instruction incredibly good and helpful. I’m now half way through and intend to keep going. I hope to establish a regular practice that lasts far beyond my healing time. It’s been great for heading off the anxiety I was feeling, and I could use that even when I’m not recuperating. Hoping to get a couple of friends to try this as well as they’ve expressed interest and could also benefit. It’s nice to have an app I feel good about recommending to help them learn as they’ve never meditated before.

Wonderful technique and app

Let me preface this by saying that I’m a conservative construction worker with very little experience in meditation. I was looking for a way to de-stress after work before returning to my family and 1GiantMind has been a fantastic tool to help me achieve that. 1GiantMind doesn’t push anything religious or hippie, it’s just letting your mind rest and refocus. The way I think of it is that you are encouraging your mind to go into that comfortable and creative state you experience right before falling asleep.

I agree with other reviews that the talking your hear as the session ends is startling, I’ve jumped on occasion, but I can’t give this FREE app less than 5 stars for how much it has helped me.
