Using OpenKey disabled the physical key cards we were given. Didn’t realize that and left our phones in the room when we went to the pool. We couldn’t get back into the room using the key cards. After we get that straightened out we decide to only use OpenKey and not the key cards. All was well until housekeeping used a key card to get into the room to clean it. When we returned OpenKey now didn’t work. But apparently since we tried OpenKey , that disabled our key cards. Maintenance had to come with a laptop and reprogram the door and let us in. We then used only the physical key cards and never had a problem again. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Locked out of my room and the front desk closed at 11pm not to return until morning.
Downloaded the this app app to get back in the room and received the following message when prompted to input my phone number: “Alert! Sorry! Looks like you haven’t been checked into the hotel yet.”
I checked into the hotel at 2:40pm and have been in and out of the room multiple times. My belongings are in the room.
I don’t know why OpenKey doesn’t think I’m not checked into the hotel. It seems that something with the this app system concerning my stay has been lost in translation.
I called this app support at 11:48pm PST and was informed that a “technician/agent” who may/or may not be equipped to resolve my issue won’t be in until 9am, the following business day. At which point I will have spent the night in my car, where I wrote this review, prior to my slumber.
As it stands, the lack of functionality and/or systematic communication concerning OpenKey has rendered my money for this hotel stay a complete loss.

I must say this is the most frustrating app to use.
First of all, it is not exactly practical when you must carry a working phone with you no matter what (including running, surfing, etc...). I wish we had the key card option, but this is all we got.
Second, OpenKey crashes most times; we have to relaunch OpenKey so many times just to get it to work, and when it works, it’s like finding gold.
Lastly, the anxiety of being locked out in case your phone dies, or you can’t get OpenKey to work can interfere with the enjoyment of your vacation.

Can’t being to express how amazing having mobile key will be to guests, hotel employees etc. The fact guests can see on OpenKey the day they check out and the time is amazing! Even better if guests need a late check or change departure date, they do not need to stop by the desk, everything can be done remotely and their access on the phone is extended. This is amazing and I love it!!!

I never needed a physical key at the hotel I was staying at in Austin. I checked in via OpenKey , received my digital key, skipped the front desk, and went straight to my room. I also used this app to open the pool gate and the workout area without any issues. Did exactly what it said it would.

Great when it works - and mostly it doesn’t. Inconsistent, hold the phone the same place / the same way and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Just downloaded the update and now it doesn’t work at all. BETTER TO GET A KEYCARD- OpenKey is crap, at least at this stage. I’ve spent too much time locked out of my room because of it (multiple occasions / different rooms) to give anything more than 1 star. If there was a zero it’d get that today.

Me and My wife loved how easy OpenKey was to use to access our hotel room during our stay. Hope to see this in many more hotels soon.

Opens up apple pay when unlocking door. Success rate is low but cool idea.

It would be even better if you could add an Apple Watch app so users could use their watch to open their hotel door.

I wanted to like OpenKey and functionality. However, OpenKey very rarely works first try. It seems like it requires the phone to download the key every time you use it to open the door. I’ve had to try over ten times for OpenKey to work before. Sometimes you have to reinstall OpenKey . It gives the Inn that we states at a bad image.

OpenKey was amazing. I loved being able to have contactless entry to my room without having to interact with anyone In the midst of COVID. Looking forward to seeing this in more hotels

So much more convenient than a physical key! I was able to go straight to my room without any delays. Why doesn’t every hotel have these yet?!?!

OpenKey is horrible. The hotel couldn’t help me with it. They requested I uninstall then reinstall OpenKey to get it to work and I did that three times OpenKey still never unlocked my room.
I waited for them to bring me a key for almost 30 minutes. You’re better off checking in at the front desk.

This is the bomb!
I got my hotel reservation and room access without waiting in line. Everything was done from my smartphone.

App works on about 40% of attempts and that’s a generous guess. Just constantly crashes. Either too cheap or lazy to fix the bug issues of it crashing. And I can put a boarding pass on my watch, my credit cards, my, pharmacy cards, etc yet they can’t put this on a watch.

I got to use this app at the Surf and Sand hotel and loved the convenience of using my phone vs a key card. The contactless technology is perfect for these times!

Stayed in Pensacola, Fl.
Not any problem with OpenKey , just held the phone next to the door lock(as stated) and worked every time.
Good implementation of Technology!

This could be a really cool feature, except at the hotel I used it at it didn’t work half the time. I ended up having to get a physical key because I needed to be sure I could get into my room. Maybe someday it’ll work better!

It’s just a pain to use. Accidentally open the front door key instead of your room key? You have to kill OpenKey and restart it to try again. Many other UI issues and loading/data issues and delays.

Was able to go straight to my room. Super useful

But not well implemented because it lacks a Watch App.
It's like with Apple Pay. Still a drag if you have to get your iPhone out, which negates much of the advantage that makes it really convenient.
I'd certainly would go to a hotel where I could use the watch to open the room door over one where that's not supported!

OpenKey was great. Made it easy to share my key with my husband.

OpenKey works great for me. The only reason I rated it 4 stars was the lack of Apple Watch integration. So question to the developer: Is Apple Watch integration on your roadmap? Thanks!

Everytime I opened my hotel room with OpenKey, the window to activate Apple pay came up. I stopped using it after the third time and will delete. Seems shady and you may not want to trust it.

OpenKey works with 17 hotels across the country... small random places. Searched for hotel in Los Angeles... nothing! Searched “California”... 17 results. Only 7 in CA and the rest across US. Don’t even know what OpenKey will do - can’t do anything until you book one of the 17 hotels.

I will never stay in a hotel without this app! I love it. Made my stay unforgettable.

Didn’t work for me. Couldn’t download my key. Customer service promised a tech would call to figure the issue out. Never got the call.
