We Investigate the app owner's website (Vdoto2.com), verify their legitimacy, and uncover hidden scams and complaints.
There are far better free websites that will give you much more info than the free version VO2. You can calculate VDOT, predict race paces, find recommended training speeds and definitions for long, threshold, interval runs etc. with other free tools, but not this one. I was hoping to find that info in a convenient app that would store my personal info instead of having to input in the free site each time. But no go. I’m going back to the free tool I’ve been using.
I’ve had VO2 for a couple of weeks as I’ve been training and I just have 3 problems with it.
First, that I can’t edit a workout after it’s been added and synced, So I can’t say “no this is the activity that I want targeted!”, it picks first and doesn’t let you change it, more freedom to edit would be wonderful.
Second, you have to act like your own coach planning workouts, I can’t just say “workout tomorrow” it has to be a set amount of reps and distance, but I can’t say that because I have no idea until I’m about to do it!
Third, I can’t add an easy run after I already ran it, they won’t connect and it won’t add to my training log, instead if I push “completed easy run” it doubles my distance for that run.
Overall great app and so smart, I’m learning a lot from it and it’s good for organizing my training and keeping track, but more freedom is necessary for VO2 to work right. Or you have to strenuously plan, add, keep track, and try to keep up, but if you would free it up for editing on runs and workouts, it would become the greatest organization, training, coaching app out there. Good luck
It worked fine for a while. Now it frequently stops uploading my workouts to VO2 after I complete the workout. I have to uninstall and reinstall VO2 then Reconnect the Apple Watch app. Now I have just tried once again to do this and now not even that is working.
This is beta software.
They recently released an Apple Watch app. It only works if you force close both iPhone and watch apps and then open the iPhone app followed by the watch app. However it breaks as soon as your watch goes to sleep. They also offer Apple Health sync but it doesn’t work and never has. I don’t recommend using this platform if you use an Apple Watch. Their app is filled with bugs. If you connect to Strava it never says connected in VO2 but it will say connected in the browser leading users to confusion. They haven’t removed these features and so it’s important that users know this as what they advertise in the description is misleading and wrong. These features do not work.
I’d recommend trying a different coaching program.
I love VO2 and how it connects to my Garmin watch with all the details of the workouts and runs I put into VO2 ! I only wish that there was a copy/paste (or duplicate) option for my workouts though, since it is hard to key in a detailed interval workout with multiple steps. Please add this key feature to your next update and thank you so much VDOT Team!
VO2 solves the absence of strong interval tools in more popular services like MapMy. There’s a lot of sophistication around run design, with great audio cues based on time and distance. Really complex routines are easy to plan. I can’t imagine interval training without it. The coaching plans are good, especially if you run year-round and get bored with rote schedules.
A few minor complaints:
1. I think the GPS is short. My intervals often appear unrealistically fast. When comparing the same run in much more wifey used and monitored running apps, V.02 seems to sometimes register a mile in as little as 0.91 miles. I don’t think that’s a problem for routine training, but may harm target training for races.
2. The UI remains kludgy. Creating a “library” of intervals ends up being messy because, for example, I’ve had to create a bunch of 800m intervals with different target paces and recovery times.
3. The Apple Watch app is junky. The primary thing I imagine most runners want during an interval is the remaining time or distance. I haven’t figured out how to make that the dominant visual element, or to stop my podcast app from taking precedence on the display. This is not a problem with MapMy, so it is solvable.
What I’d really love is to see MapMy or another major running app pay the V.02 team a zillion dollars for their great work and then integrate this tech into their better-designed interface.
Overall VO2 provides a good platform to track workouts, especially the running. Do wish it had the ability to track weight training in more detail but not a big deal.
I really enjoy getting detailed workouts, videos, feedback from my coach and the ability to track my progress and fitness all in one app. It also syncs with Strava and Garmin. My only wish is that it also could sync with RunKeeper. Really useful for anyone training and trying to improve their fitness!
VO2 has been great in my experience interacting with a coach and following their prescribed training plan. Even if you are on the move your coach can track your workouts and adjust your plan while communicating through VO2 as well. It also has a pretty accurate race calculator built in. Win win!
Two things made VDOT an incredible experience in marathon training. First, the calendar function lets you have flexibility to schedule among daily life. When used with a coach, the communication factor within the individual workouts is also key. Second, the ability to sync to Garmin made it like carrying the coach (and workouts) on your wrist. It provided amazing benefits and maintained accountability. I look forward to my next training via VDOT.
I have been printing my training plans in the past, changing manually and putting notes etc, but VO2 made me free from all that, and i can always check my planned work outs so easily when i forget. I run with my phone mostly so this kept me on point for my planned paces, laps, and the whole workout. The comments you get from coaches (during training plans) are very encouraging and motivating.
VO2 and accompanying program has taken my running game to the next level. The hardest part for me is getting out the door and these coaches make it so easy. I was skeptical at first, but they’re great - knowledge, accessible, accommodating to a hectic work life balance and genuinely work with you to reach your goals or even just talk through how things are going.
I highly recommend VO2 to anyone looking for a push, will benefit from structured workouts and is open to leaning more about training routines 👍 🏃
Love VO2 and its compatibility with the Garmin. I am easily able to transfer my Garmin information so that my coach can quickly see my results. The layers of information about my runs has been very helpful for me as well
I am new to V.O2 but really enjoying it for the past month. It interfaces seamlessly with my Garmin watch. It’s easy to follow for running workouts, even complicated track workouts. I like the communication with my coach through VO2 .
I’m a complete beginner who wanted to put some meat behind a New Years resolution, that was a half marathon. My coach and the VDOT app made it approachable, kept me motivated, helped me really see my progress, and completely changed my approach training and working out in general.
Game changer
I’ve been running for years on my own with little to no training plan in place and stagnating as a result. The ease and accessibility of the Vdot02 app and its experienced coaches take the guess work out of building a smart, sustainable, and strengthening program that I can stick to. In a world of one-size fits all training apps, it’s awesome to have a program that’s designed specifically for me and my goals and doesn’t break the bank! Plus, I can’t deny the results!
It’s super easy to use and syncs up with your favorites (I use it with Strava, no problem.)
Run, don’t walk, to an AppStore near you...oh and VO2 also made me better at puns ;)
I'm a huge fan of the vdot app. It's easy to use, keeps me on schedule with my training and I've dropped a lot of time in races since using it. The training schedules are tailored individually and focus on training efficiently not on churning out the most miles. Big thumbs up!
VDOT keeps me and my coach closely synced. Through integrations with Garmin it helps push my planned workouts to my watch and can receive workout results for my coach to see in VDOT.
The VDOT score based pacing ensures I’m training at a personalized level.
I love VO2 as a tool to quickly check out my workout for a specific day. If paired with coaching it’s a great tool to write notes either for yourself or your coach and receive feedback from coach.
VDOT has been an invaluable tool the past few months, offering continuity through the easy to access training schedule, training runs automatically downloaded from Garmin, and space for athlete and coach notes. The VDOT Calculator is an additional bonus for race planning/preparation.
