Timer can’t keep time

This last update really messed up the timer function...couldn’t figure out why somehow my end brew time would somehow end at 4:30...I finally started paying attention while I was pouring and noticed the timer suddenly jumps 2-5 seconds in a blink of an eye for some reason...so stupid and useless now.

Acaia, your scales are ridiculously expensive and for your app developers to mess up something as easy as a timer on your brewer app is quite pathetic

Crashes, no way to edit water and update profile picture does not work

Brewmaster constantly crashes and no way to edit water. Which makes it useless. The idea is amazing but implementation so bad.

What happened?

Since the last update Brewmaster is useless. The timer now jumps by two or three seconds at a time, doubling the timer on my machine by the end of a shot. Also the timer on the scale doesn’t run if Brewmaster is running now.

This used to be a handy app to use with the scale, but this version ruined it.

Repeated Data Loss

Brewmaster is so upsetting that I hate not only Brewmaster but also the scale.

There have been too many times that I’ve pressed the “Save” button only to have my new brew entry disappear from the list in less than a second. At first I thought this had something to do with special characters like “:”, “(“, or “)” in my brew name or bean name, but I think it happens most often when I have Brewmaster logged in to my account. It seems to happen less if I’m not logged in, but then I can’t see my previous brew entries. There have been other problems, but I feel it’s a waste of my time to list them all considering how long Brewmaster have been available and it’s still crappy.

If I knew Brewmaster would be this bad, I could have bought a much cheaper scale without an app!

Pearl 2021 update broke my app

The BM app was working just fine. I’ve never liked the UX, but it did it’s prime feature for my Fellow EKG+, which is that I could turn it on/off and control the temperature via the phone.

Now that I updated to BM’s latest “Pearl 2021” update, it crashes when I click the Kettle Icon.

I’ve been using iOS 14.5 beta since December, and it was working fine until this latest Acaia update.

Hope you guys can release a quick fix.

Feature Request:
Hire someone to match the quality of your scales to the quality, interface, design of your apps. The apps need work.

get a dumb scale

You'll spend more time fighting Brewmaster and Bluetooth pairing than you will making coffee.

I've already returned the scale once as it failed to pair to iOS. It worked for a month and then bombed out again.

If you know how to weigh and time your coffee, you won't need Brewmaster. But if you were already comfortable doing that, you probably wouldn't have bought a scale advertising connectivity and an app to help you. Brewmaster and scale do neither.

Needs Fixing

My scale is wonderful but Brewmaster is, unfortunately, broken. The timer does not keep time properly so my saved brew data is useless. It is also necessary to go into Brewmaster settings to find my scale each time I use Brewmaster .

Confusing UI

I think it works ok. But it's confusing to use app. Considering how pricey the scale expect a fairly polished app.

Cons:
-Navigation doesn't make sense
-Timer settings don't seem to sync between devices
-I don't think you can change the four default pour over options
-Why can't Brewmaster detect the weight of the beans based on the scale weight (workflow doesn't make sense)?

Biggest issue is:
Should I use Brewmaster or the other Acacia app? Not sure what the feature differences are.. they seem to be largely the same

What?

I downloaded Brewmaster awhile ago and it worked very well! Then they updated it and flow rate measurement changed. Now they updated it again and I can’t measure to a tenth of a gram. I’ve reset my phone in the setting to “grams” with the same result. The only thing it’s good for now is measuring the time and weight to the whole number. Is there another app out there that people like?

Crashes very often

App crashes so frequently its almost useless. Please reach out to me if you would like a professional app thats as nice as the lunar scale.

Still no update for time glitch.

Brewmaster does help me to dial in, BUT I alerted the company months ago regarding a glitch where Brewmaster consistently adds 6 seconds to the total time on the spec sheet and no update has been released to fix it. I love both the Lunar and Pearl, but at $220 for an espresso scale, I expect accessory apps to be functional and be able to correctly log BASIC parameters. At this point, I'll be recommending the Brewista II scale.

Disappointed

Brewmaster is buggy at best. I wish it didn’t automatically transfer notes from one shot to the next. That should blank ever time. And I’ve noticed on more than one occasion the timer on the scale showing one time and Brewmaster showing a 5-7 second differential. A lot of money spent with the promise that I could log my data but if it’s not reliable than what’s the use? The scale itself is very high quality and I’m glad to have it. But Brewmaster is a complete disappointment.

Useful for espresso

Nice to have a log of my shots but the frequent app crashes are aggravating.

Decent but needs a lot of work

Needs a way to show brew chart profiles side by side to compare.

It has auto start for a brew. Needs an auto stop after espresso flow stops. Too many times i forget to hit the “done” button and get a negative water number. Frustrating.

Simplistic app that is very rough around the edges.

Would be great if there was also a place in Brewmaster that gave recommendations for suggested brew ratios by coffee type.

Decent app - fixed

Update: it launches and doesn’t crash, since last week’s update. This was broken for the iP 12 MP for about seven months, disgraceful really. But I’m glad it’s finally working!

Saves some steps in various recipes, a decent average app that finally works :)

Original review some months back:
Brewmaster hasn’t launched for months for me, crashes on start. iPhone 12 Max Pro, iOS 14.4 (nothing on beta) Support has responded and have only been frustrating. They say they have no problems, and have nothing much else to say PS - the scale itself is fantastic :) just don’t expect a reliable or even usable app

Tracking your brew is fun!

There are few frustrating glitches in Brewmaster and it does take a moment to get use to it. But, ultimately, it just makes Brewing a bit more fun. I really enjoy being able to observe what is happening and record it to apply it to my next cup. I think my pour overs are getting better!

Easy to use!

I think Brewmaster is super easy to use. It’s a great tool for tracking your morning brews! You can record your brew in real time and replicate your favorite brews.

Finds daily use at micro roaster

I use Brewmaster every day to track pour over and Espresso brewing for purposes of maintaining consistency and dialing in.

Connects just fine, easily switches between numerous scales on the fly, custom names for scales, photos as well.

Extremely helpful for pour over training. Being able to see flow rate in real time puts agitation into perspective for a lot of people right away.

New version

Obviously this new version is more up to date, Brewmaster still have some room for improvement (some glitches are Inevitable) but so far it is good enough to log my daily brews. Also I must say their support team is really patient and helpful when walking through the problems I had, I’m glad that they keep improving their existing products and apps.

Use it every time

Helps me track my shots. Would be nice to have just one app instead of multiple Acaia apps but otherwise great
