Sync - Secure cloud storage Reviews

It has been very frustrating trying to use Sync. Whenever I want to upload something from a browser, like a PDF receipt after purchasing something, and I try to upload to this app, it fails immediately. I have to hit retry and sometimes it works and sometimes it just crashes Sync . This has been doing this for so long. It happens every time I try to upload something. Also, when I add a new file to my main this app folder, it never shows up under the recent tab, I have to go digging for it under all of the folders that stay on top on the files tab. This is so frustrating! The upload and this app speeds are also really dreadful and painful. I have been trying to use this app for business and when I send private secure links to people to open, it’s always a hassle. A simple PDF file takes forever to load. I hope you guys upgrade your servers so you can offer better speeds and I really hope you fix Sync issues. It’s painful. I want to keep supporting your company please fix these things! Thanks.

IPads and iOS is not this company’s focus at all, nor is usability. They play the “security” card as a reason for all the missing features. They have only done a single feature update in a year and it was a small viewing change! Nothing exciting.

They have yet to even integrate some of the great feature of iOS 12, i.e. files app integration. Nothing for 13. They barely works with the files app built into iOS. You will usually find you have to open Sync to make it usable.

The offline files are often not offline and have to be redownloaded, I have run into this numerous times and reported it to no avail.

If you view the version history you will see only bug fixes month after month, and this bug has existed for 2 years! You also can’t stream video’s from Sync like ANY other file syncing software. You will have to download it outside Sync to stream it to a appleTV or other device.

Essentially anything modification or use of a file will require you to save it outside Sync , locally or another this app app, and then put it back if you make any changes.

Sync is a shame, they could have good privacy and a good app, but they have decent privacy, which is not difficult to implement, and an awful user experience. They are not worth the money. Find another app, I am looking for one now after using them for over 2 years I have finally just given up hope they will get better.

Dropbox can’t be trusted, so I came across this app in my search for an alternative. It looks good on paper, and the design is clean and simple, fairly intuitive.

However where it falls flat, and I mean dead flat, is I’ve had a couple instances of destructive data loss from this app failures (as in synchronization). Thank goodness I had those files backed up elsewhere, as they weren’t recoverable via this app’s file recovery feature.

Second, there is an arbitrary sharing limitation of the number of folders (not users, total folders) that can be involved in sharing with other users. So even if you share with a single other user, as soon as one of you creates more than a couple folders within a shared folder, those folders and all the files contained within are not shared. There’s not even a notification telling you why, so you’ll likely be frustrated trying to figure out what’s going wrong. This is plain stupidity by the company, because I was in the middle of converting my sixth friend/family member over to this app from Dropbox when I discovered this limitation that renders the entire service useless to me.

Since then not only have I not told anyone else about this app, but I moved all 6 of those people back onto our shared Dropboxes (now using Cryptomator for sensitive files).

Oh well, their loss.

I have tried in vain to upload files using the desktop website, and it is horrid and dysfunctional. Files upload much slower than other providers and transfers often break or present errors halfway through. I have had this service for a couple of months on a paid plan. I have a couple hundred gigabytes of data that have been waiting for months to upload to this app. I have tried to upload to this app using this app’s website, desktop app, and (desperately) even mobile, and every single time it errors out. This has been done via different ISPs with speeds ranging up to 100+ MB/sec, yet everytime, upload speeds are painfully slow and the transfers error out.
I agree with a previous reviewer’s sentiment that for all the features present, this app really is not worth the pain inflicted. I have been giving them money for a months or three now, but if I cannot upload my data, the features this service provides are just useless.

Update: latest version fixed the bug I had written about.

Sync seems to do what you’d expect regarding viewing files that are synced on the cloud. One gripe is display of long file names. Most apps show the start and end of the file name with ... in the middle whereas this app just truncates it with ... Seeing the last part of the file name is important to me. (The file name font could be slightly smaller too IMO.)

Listing directories and downloading files keeps getting slower and slower. In fact, I can’t even download anything at the moment. It just hangs forever on two iOS devices. Net connection is good. this app between Macs seems fine. Seems isolated to Sync . File integration on iOS is hit or miss between versions. Sometimes it works... other times it doesn’t. There are times where I’ve even lost data trying to save a document in Excel. I have to open a copy of the file in Excel, then copy it back to this app to be sure I’m losing any data. It’s really too bad, this service is otherwise awesome... it makes zero knowledge cloud storage very easy to use. I hope the mobile app gets fixed soon!

I have used dropbox for many years, and it’s not that I dislike them I just didn’t like the price. I found sink and they seem to be just as good with a cheaper rate. I did not like that my computer was jamming up with all my files when I got dropbox specifically to store files safely off my computer. Their option for solving that problem would have cost me more money. With this app, this option is already included in the lower price. I have been using this app for about a month and so far I am perfectly happy.

In Sync, my list of files just magically disappears and Sync behaves as if there are no files in my account. I have to completely close Sync and run it again and MAYBE they’ll show up again. Most videos and photos have no thumbnail image in Sync. There’s no preview of videos without downloading the entire file which takes an eternity because the service sends files to you so slowly that you need a shave by the time it’s over. When my subscription expires, that’ll be the end of this for me.

I only wish for a paid version with more storage space and more features

New to this app, but the iPhone app is too buggy. It randomly stops uploading even though conditions haven’t changed. And when I try to look at something I’ve uploaded (not opening it, just going to the folder) this app closes unexpectedly. I’ve tried closing and reopening the program. I’ve tried rebooting my phone. All to no avail. Since I just committed all of my storage to them, I’m really hoping they figure out what’s going on with Sync.

I was planning on purchasing a subscription but I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find out that video files cannot be viewed in Sync on my phone, tablet or the website. I was looking for a good service to back up files especially the tons of videos on my phone off my child.

What is the use of this service if to see the videos u have to download them? The entire purpose of wanting to buy this was to free up space on my devices.

I can view videos in the Google drive, Dropbox and pcloud app. Why wouldn't u have this feature? Smh

I have no problem paying a subscription fee for a service that continuously improves. But I notified them months ago about the icon not being visible in the menu bar on Mac in light mode. They acknowledged the issue and said it would be fixed but when? I think I’m going to switch to pCloud unless this gets fixed soon. I liked to be able to verify that my docs are synced when I click save. If this review still stands, that means it's still unresolved.

This is my second year of a paid subscription.
The service has been flawless and fast.
Use it on a few Windows machines and Apple devices & a Mac.
Updates across all devices are almost instant. One of the best service I have ever used.

I love Sync/service. It is the only end-to-end encrypted, convenient, amazingly designed and organized storage app out there- I don’t trust Google or Apple to store my data and keep it safe from hackers, law enforcement or advertisers. I’m a 20-year-old college student and it integrates perfectly into my life. If you guys send me a t-shirt I’ll rep it

You get what you pay for. Poor upload speeds, nonexistent technical support. I’d take a call center in India or the Philippines any day compared to this. this app blamed it on Apple, my cellular carrier, broadband supplier. My upload speeds are in excess of 80 Mbps. So that’s not it. My business deals with 6 to 800 pictures per day. 30 per upload was the max we could do without having Sync crash. 20 or less what Saint technical support recommended. These guys just don’t cut it. Will be moving on.

Sooooooo I was waiting on waiting on the much needed search feature to be added thinking to myself they must have to add that as it’s basically like the most important feature needed because how else are you going to find something out of thousands of files, butttttt nopeeeee not yet and makes me think they aren’t going to add that!!!! 🤔

Love Sync but I cannot use the thing with no search feature!!!!! 🤢🤮 Seriously I have in one folder 3,645 pdf files and there is no way I can, when I need something, scroll through all to find what it need!!!!

Sync worked well until this most recent update. Now when ever I share to this app from within the photos app it opens the full this app app to actually do the upload. That takes way too long to upload content. It’s basically broken at this point.

It would be great to stream videos instead of having to download the entire thing.

Also, Sync is constantly crashing when trying to view a photo. I almost regret this purchase. Not sure if the zero-knowledge encryption is even worth a subpar app.

Desktop ui is subpar as well compared to competitors.

So much better than the competition. Left Dropbox after many years and not looking back. Fast response time when I did have questions with their tech support.

I use this app on various devices so I don’t understand the negative reviews. I also don’t know why they did not email the support team. I am a paying user and am looking to upgrade with this app as needed in the future. The experience isn’t perfect but it is largely hassle-free. If you’re tired of other services and are looking for great pricing, look no further than this app. You can store up to 4TB for $200 a year and 20TB with two accounts for $400.

The application is beautiful and wonderful but the worst thing is that it does not support play of videos without downloading and does not support 3D touch

Background photo this app of camera roll which is the main reason I use Sync no longer works unless Sync is open. Have been dealing with support for weeks now and they have no clue.

Sync also feels like something made by an intern for an older version of ios so it could be a lack of updates that is causing the break in functionality.

Does everything that Dropbox does, but end to end encrypted. Does everything that Tresorit does, but with less fanfare, and for less than half of the price.

This happened to me with MEGA too and I don’t know how to fix it, but when I start uploading photos/videos, it copies the data and stores it on my phone. I can see all the files on the website, but I have no idea why it duplicates everything taking up unnecessary space on my phone. In my opinion, completely defeats the purpose of Sync .
