IVPN - Secure VPN for Privacy Reviews

I reviewed all of the top rated VPNs (and tried most of them) before deciding on this app. I’ve been very pleased with IVPN and service so far (about two years running now). Connection is fast, configurable, and doesn’t appear to slow me down one bit. It just works without having to think about it once set up.

I can’t understand how IVPN has so few reviews. It often doesn’t show up in the “big name” reviews, and that initially concerned me, but I always dig much deeper into products than those superficial reviews anyway. I found this app to have all the features I wanted and more than most. It was a little more expensive, but so far it has been completely worth it to me. I highly recommend this VPN solution.

Whatever VPN solution you choose, make sure it has “leak” protection. This was a requirement for me, because my previous VPNs, before they became mainstream, would shut down when the phone or PC went to sleep, and wouldn’t automatically reconnect on awakening, which left you unprotected, often unaware. Not good. So once enabled, this app prevents all device network traffic until the VPN is (re)established. That’s good.

App on macOS and iOS is flawless. I’ve tried all the big players like PIA, NordVPN, BlackVPN, ExpressVPN (which is good - but still a far second to this app) etc, but they do not compete on a variety of levels. Big plus for this service is software. On iOS you can throw weak connections, switching from WiFi to LTE back again and it handles well with no evidence of leaks - queuing up data until the connection is secure. Same with MacOS client. I close my laptop, restart etc and it automatically firewalls until it connects no matter what - and it does it seamlessly. I barely know it’s there. And fastest speeds available bar none. It is expensive when compared to the competition, but you’re paying for a flawless service IMHO. You might think I’m overselling the service, but I’m just happy I found a vpn that doesn’t want to make me tear my hair out - and I’ve done my time doing just that with the others.

Great company and service and usually IVPN is pretty good. However about a month or so ago the Wireguard interface stopped working. Always seemed to have a better experience with that one. Gets stuck generating keys and I have to force close IVPN .

Really like what you guys are doing. I’ve used other VPNs in the past but this one I feel really has better privacy. It’s fast, plenty of servers. No complaints. Really like the layout and features of IVPN like “hardcore mode”.Also appreciate how it blocks tracking ads and companies. It’s a unique option to be able to pay weekly for travelers who don’t always need a VPN. I know you guys do not promote as much as mainstream ones and won’t be on a “top 10 vpns list” but I hope more people realize this app is the best for privacy and you guys continue to grow.

this app cost a bit more than other VPN providers but you get what you pay for like they said the servers are super fast like they advertise. Did a speed test I was able to download at max speed my modem allowed me to which was 360mbps while other VPN like TorGuard only allowed 60mbps. There this app app is good but has bugs that need to fix. Every time I open my phone to do something IVPN suppose to reconnect to the vpn server but 30 to 40% of the time it doesn’t have to go in IVPN and do it manually I hope they fix this soon. But overall they offer great service and IVPN does what I need it to do.

Switched to this app years ago from PIA. It’s really great. Product is stable, but always improving. Speeds are good. And it’s clear someone there has an eye for good design because it’s nice to look at too. The iOS app is great, I particularly like the ability to mark networks as trusted or not and have the VPN connect/disconnect automatically. I also use their MacOS app, and configure a Linux system using their OpenVPN configs. Both are rock solid. On top of all that, they’re continually highlighted for their excellent approach to privacy. I highly recommend their service and apps. You won’t be disappointed.

Finally a VPN that doesn’t try and trick you into believing the crap that other VPN’s promise. Considering there might be only 3 VPN services (out of the top 25) that don’t straight up 100% lie to you, this one seems to be the most legit. They don’t even bother trying to lie. They tell you straight up what they offer and what a VPN can and cannot do. None of this false advertising of “100% online anonymity” like you see on most services. Reliable. Great speed. Anonymous payments with zero log policy. Get it.

For some reason the connection to VPN servers tend to drop a lot. Connection does not stay steady. Also, for some reason, when I turn off my phone and turn back on again, my account is logged out and I have to re log in with my account number. Very frustrating. Speeds have been pretty iffy also. Sometimes fast most times pretty slow. I want to use IVPN , though and I still will. Hopefully new updates are coming soon.

I want to select specific servers instead of being limited to only select a city. Sometimes the server I am assigned is too congested, thus, it is too slow. In addition, if we had the option to select by servers instead of just by city, we could avoid selecting certain IP’s that might be blacklisted.

Huge fans of this app! The ability to choose targets/countries and use double hop is fantastic…since wireguard has gotten more reliable we rarely see connectivity interruptions. I don’t use my telco’s or any Wi-Fi internet connection without this app enabled .The anti-tracker feature is great and blocks ads/etc on apps as well as in browsers. We are very happy with the service.

Can never get green server speeds anymore. The Mac app won’t keep a constant connection without dropping and then needing a restart to reconnect. What happened to live chat? Is that now permanently gone? Everything about this service was very good up until the end of January ‘19. Now, I am starting to research a new provider for when my subscription is up. I echo the review who says IKEv2 is needed - for Mac & iOS. I’ve set it up manually on MacOS following the online instructions but cannot get it to connect ever. It works ok manually on iOS but why have iOS or Mac apps without IKEv2? Makes little sense...

I have used this app for over two years now on all my devices and I can’t say enough about them. Their anti tracker is awesome! Love having the ability to completely cut any potential connections to Facebook or Google servers. I always have it set to hardcore mode. If your serious about privacy and security, it gets no better than this. Period.

I’ve been a customer for years and am impressed with the many improvements to the apps, both iOS and MacOS. I especially like tracking blocker and the this app firewall, which I have set to “always-on.”

I feel that the price is commensurate with the quality and I’m glad that a service of this quality is available. A node in Mexico would be nice.

Had system issues at work today and was told to use google voice. The anti tracker wouldn’t let me access google (good). Glad to know that the anti tracker actually works. this app is amazing and just keeps getting better. And I always get a response within 24 hours when I open a ticket. Thanks to Jordan and the this app devs.

One of the few trustworthy vpns that actually protect your privacy with third party audits and no data collected. Oh I have to add, I’ve even had this speed up my webpage load speeds while on mobile data! It was absurd. The page failed to load until I connected to my vpn. Amazing. Please add Siri Shortcuts to toggle vpn on/off.

When looking into VPN's I always look at the obvious...speed, security etc. However the BIGGEST issue...Located on a British possession. Meaning being subject to English laws. England is just as bad as the US when it comes to online privacy but also being subject to the NSA of the United States as well, if you don't care about privacy, go for it. If you care that the government will know what you're doing...move on.
Edit: No matter what “legalese” you want to spew the bottom line is YOU ARE LOCATED IN A BRITISH POSSESSION AND THEREFORE SUBJECT TO THEIR LAWS AND THAT OF THE 5/13 EYES.

It’s decent, I like all the functionality. The most frustrating is when the vpn is connected and I lock my phone or my phone has been locked for a while and I unlock it; the vpn spins and can’t connect. It just hangs and then I have to disconnect and reconnect. Also, if you try and disconnect from vpn and you’ve labeled a network ‘untrusted’ you can’t manually disconnect without first leaving the network.

Overall, it’s just easier to use OpenVPN using your this app cert.

Signed up after Anonymizer quit the VPN biz.
Easy to use, but frequent “can’t connect to server” messages on iOS. Mostly use Atlanta server from N. Florida.

This new version is fatally broken. When leaving WiFi and picking up 5g the internet connection breaks and never returns.

Coming back to WiFi from 5g also fails. The phone stays stuck on 5g and this app has to be turned off then on again to get back into WiFi.

The prior version of this app worked just fine switching from WiFi to 5g and back again. I’m observing this on the same walk to and from my house each day. The WiFi and 5g are not variables.

I wrote a review where I was complaining about the speed of the vpn provider. After contacting the support, I learned how to use the ports they had, and by consequence, have a better connection. I appreciate the team for the support.

I’ve used IVPN and service for a few years. Firstly, IVPN and VPN service seems to work well for the most part. I do get annoying lag that is probably from the VPN during peak times but I’m not sure (though connection seems better when disconnected). Lately I’ve used IVPN a lot less on my iPhone 11 Pro because I notice a large drain on the battery when connected, even overnight. Hopefully it’s something that can be patched in IVPN , as they are very good at updating it.

I am sorry to see a number of very unhappy comments here, but honestly I cannot make any sense of them; I am using this app for about a year and a half, and have not experienced any problem at all, not with the s/w, not with speeds, not with the service or help desk; it’s hard to imagine how they could improve. The price ? worth every penny

"Always on firewall" might be impossible to implement on iOS, but it would be nice to know nothing is leaking while the vpn reconnects (on every unlock). Also multi-hop is coming soon I hope. But it's great to finally have a native app.

Like the service as been using for 3 years but as they seem slow to market may need to change other. Been happy but they don't have many access gateways to give you access in major counties.

New website looks good and happy to see this new iOS app finally! Was sad to see that they literally wrote out no BS as a part of cancellation policy on the new site. Not a very professional impression.

this app has delayed making an iOS app for so long (even though they charge a lot for their VPN service) that I just assumed they didn't care about the majority of their users. It turns out they still don't care.

IVPN doesn't display how busy the VPN servers are, doesn't allow multihop (even though we're paying for it), and doesn't enable VPN over http.

That's right, when you need VPN most, to secure your phone on public WiFi, this app is least likely to work. Most public WiFi allows only http traffic (port 80) and IVPN won't let you set that.

The this app desktop app allows VPN over port 80 and multihop and shows how well each server is responding. Given how poor IVPN development is at this app, I don't expect them to fix this on the iPhone app anytime soon (e.g. years from now if lucky).

As easy as the desktop client and secure. Hope to see full set of same features over time. Tested and no dns leak either. Its better and faster than just using built in ios vpn.

Still giving it 5 stars because it's a great app when it works and I'm assuming they will release a fix soon. For now, I have to stick to LTE 😅

Very impressed with this app over the past year. IVPN gets better and better. VPN performance is very good on cell and WiFi networks. Works great in US and on recent trip to UK. (Mac app has even more features)

You can’t sign up through IVPN . When you attempt to use it, it instructs you to sign up online. Moreover, when u actually do use IVPN for long periods, you’ll find occasionally that you drop connection. During those brief periods every so often, IVPN does not block unencrypted network activity, so IVPN simply doesn’t work.
