Mandatory; awful

DragonCon contains a lot of super useful info. It’s also unreliable. It crashes a lot. It occasionally freezes for several seconds at a time, sometimes mid-scroll. When you task switch to DragonCon it will appear to be functional but nothing on the screen will work for several seconds. I’ve developed mobile apps; this is amateur hour.

When it’s not suffering from technical problems, DragonCon is exhibiting usability issues. It makes it a chore to share your schedule with friends, and every year you have to recreate your friends list from scratch.
Every year the main menu becomes harder to use. A few years ago they replaced the text labels on the nav bar with tiny icons that don’t mean anything. This year the main menu is white on a grey background; not high contrast enough to be easily read on a tiny screen in bright sunlight.

Last December Apple briefly tried banning low-effort templated apps. DragonCon is a prime example of why.

Has the App updated Yet? Asking For a friend.

Good app just got to disable wireless network usage during the day while at con. Update first thing in morning then wifi data usage only and turn off wifi while on con floor. No crashes for an update that fixes some spelling error or changes the banner adds.

Necessary but frustrating

this app is a tough place to get cell reception. Having DragonCon update in the foreground instead of the background is beyond aggravating. If I need to get to a map or see my schedule, I don’t want to have to wait for the update.
Also the “show more” link is terrible, I missed a bunch of stuff because I thought some guests only had 2 things. If I click on a guests page I want to see all the stuff they are doing, there is no other reason for their page to exist.

It’s 11 pm. Do you know where your children are?

When I was a kid, there were these PSAs that ran at eleven on Friday and Saturday nights that said, “It’s 11:00 pm. Do you know where your children are?” Well, it’s less than 20 days til this app 2019 and DragonCon hasn’t been updated. It seems to work ok, but it’s late, and this year’s info is nowhere to be seen.

Crashes constantly.

Doesn't really matter where, just crashes. Tap a navigation widget: crash. Add an event to your calendar: crash. Just let it sit there: crash. And apparently, if you delete and reinstall DragonCon , you have to completely redo everything including your schedule because there's no persistent storage of your profile off your device. And if you do reinstall, you then show up multiple times in your friend's contact list. Horrible.

Crashes constantly

THe information in DragonCon is great, but it’s so hard to use because of the constant crashes
Also I wish the interactive maps/directions were implemented, such a great feature

Couldn’t Con Without It

Don’t know how I’d possibly organize my schedule without this. It’s such a useful tool. I would like updates a little further in advance though!

Gotta have it - crashes constantly

What did you do to my app?!? Was working fine on my iPhone up until last update 9/2/17. Now won't even run - just crashes. Reinstall doesn't help - keeps trying to update theme and gets stuck there - then you guessed it - CRASH!! Useless right now. Where's my paper schedule? Doesn't require wifi or data and only crashes if you drop it in a puddle. :/

Must have! Yet crashes!

All but required for any real con attendee. Sadly crashes every 30 seconds and lags randomly on some devices.

Indispensable But Crashes

As always, an indispensable tool for navigating Dragon Con, but now crashing constantly on both my iPhone 6 and iPad both on the latest OS.

Good except automatic update 'feature'

App often tries to automatically update seemingly upon opening fairly often. DragonCon programmers sitting in front of a connected office network do not realize how saturated the cellular networks may be at the convention. So updating is extremely difficult during peak times (11AM-8PM). DragonCon should only let the user know an update is available, but not force an update automatically. It just wastes time to try to cancel the download/update just so you can check your personal schedule.

Issues with DragonCon that should be addressed or fixed.

1) Do not set it to automatically update. It is fine to tell me when there is an update available for the schedule or information, but don't start the process automatically. Trying to cancel it can take 20-30 seconds, and when looking for a panel or information you know is already in an app, it is a waste of time.

2) This is not a typical convention with typical hours. The 'midnight to midnight' schedule listing is a huge pain. There are a LOT of official events and parties well until 4AM, so around the midnight time it is a hassle to have to switch to the next day, scroll up, and locate the needed information. The 'day' should be a more realistic 6AM to 6AM display.

3) The entire convention there was an alert message telling me about an update that I had already applied days before. There needs to be a way to delete the read and now unnecessary alert banner.

Notifications

Just sent a notification nearly a month after the con uninstalled DragonCon immediately when will ppl learn to not have unwanted notifications

Broken

I know this is kind of irrelevant NOW, but DragonCon was the source of much frustration over the weekend. It worked fine before the con, but it never stopped crashing when we needed it most.

By

Unusable

What normally is an efficient app is worthless this year because it simply does not work. It crashes constantly and will not load under any circumstance. Very disappointing.

Slow & Crashes Constantly

How can one app be simultaneously indispensable, yet nearly worthless? Somehow, this one manages to be exactly that!

By

Crashes

Like 100% of the time. Always. Can't open it without it crashing.

By

Update

The this app app is useful but it is out of date and it needs to be updated for 2019

Quick access to ton of info

DragonCon lets me quickly drill down to the information I need to find. It lets me see friends' schedules to help meet up with folks at the Con. There are hundreds of things to do at this app, so it is a vast amount of info to sort through. It does a great job of categorizing and letting me search. My only complaint is that every time I start up DragonCon , it makes me wait while it updates the information that has changed. There is always a lot changing, so I want the updates, but I want to be able to lookup things while the updates occur. Once I am in DragonCon , it has a polite little flag that pops up to tell me there are updates, and I can continue to work until I choose to wait for the updates. I would love for the same feature to run every time I start up DragonCon : just politely tell me that there are updates, then let me do my thing, and then I will let you know when I can wait for the update process to get the latest updates.

If you go to DragonCon you need this!

This was my first time going to this app and setting up my schedule on DragonCon was pretty easy even though the over all app layout is pretty confusing. I mostly looked at the upcoming events and my schedule. I got lost on my first day at the con because the maps to not have North to the top and do not show your current location even after asking for permission to access it. Despite all this it is much better to have this with the notifications of upcoming events.

Good App, needs improvements

This is a really indispensable app for all con attendees, but unfortunately it has a lot of problems, including the fact that it crashes constantly. Some improvements might be color coding the schedule, for example all Hilton events could be blue or something. As for the con itself, it's a wonderful experience! I would suggest adding a theatre track and a history track.

Good design, poor content

DragonCon -design is pretty nice. The layout was difficult to navigate and searching within DragonCon as a whole isn't possible. If I went to look at a specific day and then searched something within that day, it would automatically broaden the search to all days without warning. This cause some confusion, wasted time, and missed events when we went to events that said the correct time, only to be told it was another day.

Other than that, happy to have DragonCon. Much, MUCH better than the physical schedule they handed out.
