Dissapponting

I used CT for 8 years. Prolly the best app out there when I started my cellar. Since then I’ve had to pay a yearly ‘voluntary’ assessment and if I missed the payment by one day then I lost data (voluntary - hmmm). Through the 8 years there’s been few changes/upgrades/improvements and now they want to charge me $160/year to use it.
I’ve started looking at other apps with better evaluations (CT’s were always off), more comprehensive wine info, free critics ratings, easier functionality, much better graphics and 3D models of my wine room; all for 60% of the cost.
If the designer is interested I suggest you hold off on the mandatory costs, upgrade your app and then ask for money. It’s hard to make a tough management decision that risks today dollars.

Worth the price

Since it’s free, that is. App is a pain to use. Not very intuitive. Label identification doesn’t always work and difficult if it gets it wrong. Hard to drink a bottle too. Hard to change details, name particularly. Lots of unwanted features, at least for me. Would gladly pay for a more intuitive interface. I just want to buy bottles, store them, take tasting notes sometimes, drink or remove them. Want easier to identify location in app. Easier to search cellar.

Awesome App...

Always room for improvement, but any time I have an issue and bring it to their attention, they respond surprisingly fast! I am definitely considering paying for a premium account as I’d like to see how great this service can be!

Also, as they have already heard from me, I’d like better functionality for adding non-wine items (think Cognacs and fine Whiskeys) to my collection.

Thanks for a great app and service, y’all!

Straightforward, capable database

I’ve loved CTLegacyVersion. I’ve voluntarily paid since the beginning of use in 2019. I’ll admit I paid what I considered a reasonable value for the service, $40 a year or equivalent of a decent bottle of wine for me. I don’t need reviews. I don’t need a “community”. I don’t need “drink now” assistance or photos. I just need the database function and that is solid in CTLegacyVersion.

I dread the day the old app is cut off and the upgrade to the new version is mandatory. I will not pay the excessive rates they expect. My cost would be 10x higher per year which far exceeds the value for a database function. I’ll drop it when that occurs. It’ll be a pity, but I can’t imagine the server space for my data costs that much to maintain.

Good, not Great

First, The Bad:

CTLegacyVersion is fragile, often crashes and too much human error. We (customers) can add wines, which is cool, but it has lead to multiple versions of the same wines. That leads to less accurate data on ratings, price and “drink by” dates. I also don’t love that consumers can edit the drink by dates. I like wine, no a little bit, but would love for a sommelier, or someone more knowledgeable to tell me when the wine should be drank.

The Good:

The fact that you can take a photo of the label and it finds the wine (usually) is amazing. Also, when a wine isn’t there you simply send an email and they add it super fast.

I do like that they take average prices in to account, can add to where you’re storing (wine fridge vs. wine rack, and where you drank it. I also enjoy the friend feature. I like to peruse what my pals have stored so I can tell them we should drink their (insert nice bottle) when we have dinner together.

Overall, it’s free and easy to use. I think they’ll continue to update and it will get better.

Tip: I donated some money to get the Premium version, and it didn’t seem to have a ton of perks. So if you expect more, you don’t get too much more.

Really impressive

This is probably one of the best and most useful free apps I’ve used. As far as wine apps go it’s unsurpassed. It does a fantastic job of finding the wines by either barcode or using a picture. You can easily ask them to add a new wine if it isn’t found and they respond within a couple days. The biggest challenge is remembering to mark a bottle as consumed when you take it out of the cellar. We have a wine rack in our kitchen and keep a case or two in the basement so it’s very handy for keeping track of what we have. You can also create a wine list report which is great when we go visit wineries so we know what we already have. The only negative I have is that it can be awkward to navigate sometimes.

Resourceful app, but needs updates!!

I use CTLegacyVersion to read quality reviews from consumers who seem to be avid wine drinkers with experienced palates. The general rating for each wine gives me a good indication of the quality of the wine. I do find many wines to have a lot longer shelf life or prime drinking window than most people share.

The latest version needs up update asap! There is a horizontal thick bar that comes halfway down the reviews when reading them. It’s clearly a glitch. I’ve deleted and redownloaded a couple times to see if it’s something else. No luck.

Secondly, when using the search bar, I wish it would remember my previous searches below so I can simply click on it again if needed. I do go back and forth to compare different wines and vintages and would love to see this feature.

If you are a developer, please listen to your target audience and make these subtle yet cleaner and more streamlined changes and updates. Thank you!

Useful, But Needs Improvement

There’s no good replacement for CellarTracker out there, but CTLegacyVersion has some annoying shortcomings. For example: there shouldn’t ever be a case where your keyboard is covering the text you’re trying to write, however that happens often with CTLegacyVersion.

Tap too sensitive

I use CTLegacyVersion often, however, because the tap/select function is to sensitive, there are too many inadvertent selections. Requiring a longer tap would fix this issue.

It would help to integrate with iOS swipe back feature.

Finally, when returning to previous screen that lists full cellar, the screen doesn't remember where you left off on the list. Instead, CTLegacyVersion requires user to scroll down to where you left off.

Needs an update for iOS 16.4

Been using Cellar Tracker as a paying customer for years. With the 16.4 update to iOS and iPadOS, the Cellar Tracker banner, which is usually locked to the top of the screen, now intermittently appears in random places on the screen when scrolling through a list of wines. Not a dealbreaker, but it gets annoying after awhile.

Steady and functional — works as advertised

Have been a user for ten plus years to keep track of my cellar of 800 to 1,000 bottles. The database of wines is enormous and its a rare bottle that isn’t there — usually a very small producer.

When to drink and user reviews are great features — most comments are from folks who are serious about wine.

Updates are infrequent and there’s no frills and no splash just steady functionality

Just what I needed

CTLegacyVersion was recommended to me by a winery associate after I was lamenting about needing to inventory my wine. I was tired of going over each bottle every time we wanted to open one, trying to remember what we had and what should or shouldn't be opened yet.
CellerTracker has been exactly what we needed. It took a couple hours to enter in all 90 of our bottles, but so worth it. There were a couple that weren't in the system, but CTLegacyVersion gives you the option to send an email requesting the addition, and out of the five, there was only 1 that they just couldn't find. It was a pretty obscure bottle though, I'm not even sure how we ended up with it.
I think my favorite part of CTLegacyVersion is that it provides recommended drink by dates. So if we're not looking to open anything in particular, we just search our cellar by latest drink by date. As I've entered new bottles, I try to enter in price so I can also use that as a factor in choosing a bottle. In addition, you can search your cellar by wine type, down to the grape if you want, winery, or region.
So now instead of crouching in front of our wine fridges, I can just scroll through my iPad or phone with an app that helps me make a better choice. I love how much time and headache this has saved me!

Outstanding

We’ve used CTLegacyVersion for more than four years to track our collection of ~1,000 bottles. We use the tagging system, which works great and allows simple scanning with my phone to take bottles out of inventory on consumption. I have never run across a wine that wasn’t in the database. Hopefully they will add the ability to input pro reviews from CTLegacyVersion , rather than just the website, soon. I highly recommend CTLegacyVersion.

Solid app functionality & performance!

CTLegacyVersion so far works flawlessly. In about an hour I was able to log my collection (~50 bottle) and their locations - provides great info on each wine in their DB, only a couple of rare bottles I had weren't in their system. for some wines that don't have barcodes i used search and that worked pretty well.

Overall I am stoked about CTLegacyVersion - finally confident we won't let great wine go bad and can with confidence open a bottle when its time. Will definitely be making a donation!

I have used this app. since it was first released

I have a very extensive wine cellar. I have all of my inventory stored in this tool - which allows me to manage what I have very effectively. The single biggest benefit I see from the application is the fact that individuals are able to rate wines thEby try. These are generally people with passion toward wine, and as a result I really Trust Cellar Tracker ratings for wine. I am almost never disappointed by a wine that is highly rated by several Cellar Tracker users.

Customer service is awesome!

When do you ever get a personalized email almost immediately after raising an issue? You will with Cellar Tracker. Even better, I raised an issue that was a glitch which they promptly responded to acknowledging the glitch . . . Then four months later I got a second email from them (unsolicited by me) notifying me that the glitch had been fixed. Really a breath of fresh air to receive such attentive responses.

*THE* wine tracking app

I’ve been using CellarTracker for several years now, and it’s great. Easy to add wines, keeps track of how much you paid, where & when you bought it, whether it’s in your cellar or pending delivery, etc. You can see how many bottles you own, how many are pending delivery, how many you’ve drunk, etc. After drinking a bottle you can enter private notes for yourself, public tasting notes that are viewable by the community, or none at all. Additionally, you can access all this and much more via a web browser on a computer.

The programmers have been very responsive to help requests and any new wines I need added. The community is, by and large, pretty knowledgeable. If I don’t know anything about a wine, I’ll look it up and read through the public reviews to see if it’s something I might like.

Can’t say enough good things about CTLegacyVersion.

The best wine inventory app

I’ve been using CTLegacyVersion for about 10 years now. When I first got CTLegacyVersion it was about the only thing out there. They’ve kept it updated it still the best app out there.

Aside from the many pros about CTLegacyVersion the only con I can think of is that when you’re adding multiple bottles of the same wine, such as when you buy a case of something you have to put all the bottles in one bin and then manually move them to the individual bins. If that’s the only drawback, CTLegacyVersion is perfect for me.

Just what I needed!!

Life was fine when we were just drinking the bottles from our three wine clubs, plus the miscellaneous Costco and online purchases. THEN I purchased the entire inventory of a restaurant that closed (22 cases) and needed a system.
CTLegacyVersion has been FANTASTIC! Bar codes are scanned quickly, and the label photo software works brilliantly. Then, when I stumped the library, I was SO impressed that someone responded to my email so quickly with an accurate add to the database.
The latest surprise is the ‘restaurant style’ print out, which may become my ‘go-to’ way to view my newly expanded cellar.
I am VERY seriously pleased with CTLegacyVersion. It’s just what I needed!

Great wine cellar app

Really like CTLegacyVersion. Well-designed and does what I need (keeps track of my wine, where in my cellar it is, when I've consumed it, how much I paid for it, what I thought of it). I'll also say their customer service has been exceptional--whenever I can't find one of my wines in their database, they respond immediately with a link!
