Great state and local content but app difficult to use

I love this app as my go to source for local and state news. Having been a long time Arizona Republic subscriber I hope this app can provide the financial support needed for the publishers to continue providing Arizona based news stories and articles. My only complaint is with azcentral is that too many links appear throughout articles so when when reading and scrolling through the article I inadvertently touch the links which immediately take me to another related story. Very annoying and not a problem with other app news feeds such as AP, NPR and Reuters. I would suggest fewer links in the stories and instead place them at the end of the article if the reader wants to delve further into background. Otherwise, keep up the good work this app and let’s support local journalism.

It is not a conservative newspaper

Great local stories, but anything of a political nature will always have a far left leaning agenda. Between Elvia Diaz and EJ Montini they create the most biased team of opinion journalists I have seen. If I wanted that type of slanted journalism I would subscribe to the New York Times.
I mean really, did either of those two write anything positive about President Trump. No they did not. Can someone give the man credit for at least getting us the vaccine in record time. You could be living in Canada and waiting on China and India to give us a vaccine.
I can barely stomach this paper. If it wasn’t for local content I would not subscribe.

Contains a Useless Limit on How Many Articles you can View

I really was a fan of azcentral and was planning on giving it 5 stars until I got told I’m out of articles to view for a month unless I pay to be a subscriber which made me lose respect for azcentral. If the limit or the subscriber articles were very very juicy and exclusive, that would be worth paying for, but the articles are things I can look up on 4 other local apps for free. Why pay for something I can get on 4 other apps for free? If you want local arizona news, I recommend AZFamily or one of the local Fox/ABC/etc local apps. They’re much more worth it imo.

Nice to support local news, beware the notifications though

this app is a great source for Arizona news. I like supporting our local news and supporting this app. My complaint is about azcentral notifications. I always make sure to not select the sports category for app notifications as I sometimes watch the games recorded. Unfortunately if you want to have any breaking news notifications this app will notify you of the outcomes of the Arizona teams. I guess I can’t have any notifications turned on for breaking news in Arizona if I don’t want the sports games spoiled for me.

Unable to Create an Account

I was a digital subscriber, but my subscription expired. The website was useless and wouldn’t let me update my payment information. I called customer support and they were equally useless. I decided to switch to an in-app subscription. That works, but azcentral won’t let me create an account. I tried creating a direct account and doing it through Facebook, but I am stuck on an endless loop where it keeps asking me for my name. Seriously this app: fix this! The customer experience is one of the worst that I have ever experienced. I just want to give you my money to read the news. Why won’t you let me give it to you?

Broken app

Bought a digital subscription recently. I’m fairly good with technology... I’ve tried every troubleshooting step from clearing my cache to using native browser among other things. No matter what, this trash application does not recognize my subscription and continues logging me out. Every time it wants me to log in, the website returns an error or tells me I’m logged in but won’t return to azcentral . Even when I do return, it doesn’t recognize it. It appears this is not a new issue, as there are reviews from September of last year stating this is an issue. No wonder news outlets are struggling. They can’t transition with the times.

Extremely biased

Extremely biased opinionated “” reporting I was looking for something that gave me local news not the writers opinions over and over and over again very very very disappointed Unfortunately every report seems to be pro Democrat and very misleading and overstated it’s time for the United States of America to get back to business and quit listening to the fear mongers in the press and the Democrats trying to take over every aspect of our life so that we have no rights left welcome to Venezuela Arizona if you keep listening to this garbage

Really keeps me informed

A lot of good reporting with excellent journalists. They really uncover important facts that would otherwise be hidden. This is an excellent example of what journalism should be. Very well done. I find more important information here than anywhere else even though I live in southeastern Arizona and it doesn’t cover the area I live.

Latest Update Makes App Frustrating

Not sure what changes were implemented but after the last IOS and required app updates, every news article is so full of hyperlinks that I can’t read a full article without being redirected to other pages as I try to scroll to continue reading the article. Soooo frustrating that I don’t read as often on azcentral .

The journalism is fantastic, however, so I will continue to support this quality newspaper.

Love my Arizona Republic on my iPhone

I used to be old school and prefer my news on paper, but since I have had the Arizona Republic on my iPhone, I have learned to love my news app and email notifications about content I am interested in. It doesn’t dirty my hands and I get stories as soon as they post instead of waiting for the next day’s paper.

Now, my day doesn’t feel complete until I read the news on my app, along with my coffee!

Occasionally I have to hunt down my password and reinstall my app on my iPhone which is a bit annoying but overall it’s an easy, convenient process.

Took advantage of the recent sale

Overall, I’ve been really satisfied with having local news right on my phone. I do wish there was some way to integrate the service will Apple News+. That would reduce the need for multiple apps on my phone providing me news.

Tired of the one sided reporting

I just canceled my subscription. I subscribed so I could see some of the articles that are for subscribers only. Unfortunately, the slant of the reporting, as well as the opinions, are becoming more one sided, grappling with being factual, and in some cases, down right hostile. Where I used to read at least 75% of the online articles a day, now it’s closer to 10%. I’d like some actual news with my news....and these people aren’t it anymore.

By

Relevant local news and easy to use

As someone who hasn’t stayed up to date on news, azcentral has helped me stay informed on local news with relevant alerts. Easy to use, and I like the ability to customize topics to interests.

By

It’s… ok.

The opening splash screens are janky and jarring. I get periodic prompts to select the reading style I prefer, in spite of selecting ‘Don’t ask me again’.

Weird errors pop up when viewing the text of an article. Headlines sometimes repeat every character. Swiping to read next item yields random results. Just general lack of polish. Seems that whoever maintains it doesn’t use it.

App resets itself every time you turn around

Since a recent update, I’ve noticed that if you’re reading a story in the this app app and then you minimize azcentral to check an email or take a phone call, azcentral restarts itself when you return. This means that you have to search for the story you were previously reading; bit of a pain.

By

Content closes if you leave the app

Sometimes you need to pop out of azcentral to do something else. In days past you could return to azcentral and pick up reading the story where you left off. Now it takes you back to the main index where you have to start over. Very frustrating. And another reason I miss a newsPAPER… 🥺 Please fix this back to how it used to be at least.

NOT click-bait: Real in-depth news

So refreshing to read articles that present facts, and go beyond just a screaming headline. So much out of such a cheap electronic subscription. Even shared(no cost) with father in another state, so he can keep up with my local news. Also virtual USAToday included.

Comics

At first one could read the comics, now we are being forced to purchase the subscription to the newspaper. I object to this, it has gotten so expensive I cannot afford it also the news it always old. The editorials with the exception of montonai are very bad. The language is not well used. I hate the phrase “what you need to know about” or 5 things you need to know.
What marlarky. Readers are not stupid neither am I.

Customer Service; lack of, non-existent

Do not get trapped in the “30 day free trial.” I have tried to look on the website to cancel, and there is no way to do it. When you call, there is no prompt for the digital side, and you get the home delivery side, and their systems don’t sync together. I was on hold for 10-23 minutes, 5 times. I emailed their customer service contact with all the above information, and get basically a form letter saying I can’t cancel by email, and to call customer service. UNBELIEVABLE!!

By

Flooded with ads and limited stories

It’s very annoying that you flood azcentral with ads if you do not pay for a subscription while limiting the amount of stories you can read each month. Why limit the amount of stories when there are ads all over the place? On top of that, there have been several instances where the monthly limit does not reset in a new month. Will uninstall in favor of other local news outlets that do not have monthly limits.

Balanced

Although I read the paper to keep up locally with what's happening, the paper has become biased. Instead of just reporting the news, it tends to lean toward a more liberal socialist view. I love Phoenix, I love to keep up with what's going on, but I just want straight news and to decide for myself the political outcome thoughts.

By

Nice Try

Thanks for trying to even the playing field politically, but you’ve got some real Trump hating writers. That’s why I don’t read The Republic. Sticking up for McCain & Flake only makes it worse. Nice local news coverage, sports, & food reviews.

By

Too far left

I was always told that Journalist report, not create news. Just got fed up with opinions filling the front pages where news was previously published; your editors just forgot to keep their opinions on the editorial page. Look beyond your hollow walls, your profession is most deserving of being labeled distrusting bottom feeders. I guess this is a good time to remind you that the only value your printed paper is as “fish wrapping”. I’d like to find a similar use for your electronic copy!

By

A Little balance

.....would be nice. The Az Republic is a joke since being taken over by USA Today. Constant Anti-Trump,Anti-GOP,Anti-Conservative. Montini,Goody-pants and Linda (La Raza) Valdez are radical Conservative haters and should be avoided by anyone seeking commentary not tinged by hate for anyone who doesn’t subscribe to there radical worldview. Such sad people. Why do I subscribe? To follow my sports teams.( Although Greg Moore wallows in the same swamp as those mentioned above). And if you ignore their subscription pleas long enough they’ll pretty much offer it to you free. So desperate! Ha,ha! MAGA!

Decent content. Bad app/website

Content such as news/sports stories are good. Impossible to access/change account information on app or website. Frequently shuts down. Website is horrible, takes forever to load. Halfpage ads that pop up randomly and cause you to click the wrong link.

By

Very one sided views

The political bias of this organization is disgusting. What a rag. The same left leaning insight on every story gets old real fast. Even my liberal out of state friends can only say “Wow” and shake their heads when reading the Az Republic while visiting.
It’s a shame the metro area of Phoenix does not have a print media that just reports the unbiased facts and lets the consumer decide. The Arizona Republic is a perfect example of why the media in this country is not taken seriously.

By

Keeping Up

this app allows me to keep up with the news. I live out in the country and don't get a newspaper like I used to. With azcentral I can keep up with news in my state and beyond.

By

Concise, local coverage

Love azcentral to get a quick roundup of what’s happening around the Valley on those days when I don’t have time to watch the news

By

Great for Leftists

The one & only conservative columnist is a NeverTrumper. The relentless global warming advocacy; the series on The Wall, is just too much. This state and city is not 99% leftist, but this outfit is. The editorial slant and left slant of every writer from Karina Bland to Bill Goodykoonz, Ed Montini to Laurie Roberts; it’s relentlessly leftist. I give up, my subscription is now terminated. I also add that azcentral has an indecipherable method in how it prioritizes its stories. Breaking news is rarely listed first. Very amateurish.

By

Great app

azcentral thinks ahead and picks news of importance to you based on past history. Easy to use, in some ways easier than the print version .

By

Cut back on the notifications!

App itself is fine...that said, there are *way* too many unnecessary story notifications.

I don’t need an alert telling me “Sun City West couple says Epcor billed them for 99,000 gallons of water they didn't use” (June 26th).

I don’t mind getting alerts on critical issues or emergencies, but let’s not overdo it.

AzCentral app Connects

Easy to navigate & read. As a long-time subscriber to the Arizona Republic, I look forward to checking out headlines & breaking news on my cell.

Liberal dumpster fire of a newspaper. As a graduate of The Cronkite school of Journalism I find the AZ republic to be a left leaning pile of shit. No honest journalist would ever proclaim this entertainment platform as real journalism. The sooner we stop funding this newspaper with eyes, the sooner we can end its journalistic malpractice. Stop watching and supporting both chanel 12 news and the Az republic. We the people deserve more.
