I’m at a loss for words

I was so very lucky when my health provider said that I qualified for this program I didn’t believe it but the scale signed up for the program I’m in the group everyone is fantastic our trainer is amazing the communication is effortless you can do it web-based or through your phone on Omada, The way the program is set up to encourage you and inspire you but I probably should just review Omada and not the program I don’t know I’m just going to say it’s amazing I love it Derae say almost magical but nothing is magical when it comes to hard work it’s the technology that makes it seem magical it’s the seamlessness the integration and the communication everything comes together perfectly it’s just an excellent program I highly recommend you ask your healthcare provider if you qualify if not maybe you could use this app instead of a gym membership,, idk , I’m only in week one so I’ll wait a much better review after I’ve been in the program for a few more weeks so far so excellent I’m really loving it

Omada program good, app bad

I believe the program, essentially, is based on the idea that if you get into a habit of setting goals and monitoring what you eat and do over time - that simple task - even if you don’t make any changes in your diet you will now have the data in your face and that will motivate you to do something. Eventually you’ll figure out what works for you. But Omada is not good. Can’t set weight goals in Omada . Used to, when you reached a weight goal, you’d get a “congrats” and you could see your percentage toward the goal. They took that out. App is SLOW. Spinning wheels all the time. Can’t enter weights manually which wouldn’t be a problem but the scale transmits half the time and half the time it doesn’t. I cannot count the number of times I’ve beat my weight goal (finally!) and the scale couldn’t transmit the data. Weight fluctuates and of course I might have to wait 2-3 days to consistently be below the goal and have my weight transmit. Kinda takes the fun out of it. Also, this app tracks your starting weight. Say it’s 240. Then you gain 10 pounds. Your max weight is 250 as tracked by this app. Then you lose 20 pounds. Your weight is 230. this app will say you lost 10 pounds with this app instead of the correct number which is 20. Lots of bugs.

Program good so far, app could be improved

Note this is a review of Omada , not the program. The discussion boards are hard to follow and not well organized in my opinion. You can’t comment on a comment in a thread so the discussions seem to get jumbled and out of order with all comments and sub-comments mixed together. I can’t see easily where a discussion topic starts. Would be nice if you could click on a discussion link and see all comments on it and sub-comments and comments on sub-comments. And maybe see which comments are new somehow. I feel I have to re-read things to look for updates and new posts/comments because it’s not clear what is new. Also, please consider doing separate water tracking. I drink throughout the day, not with meals so I don’t track water in the meal tracking but would like to have a log of how much I drink each day without using another app. I do like the personal coach message board and the progress page (except for the water thing)! Having the resources separately is helpful too. Would be nice if I could dismiss ones that aren’t helpful or interesting to me so I had the most helpful in my list. Good start but not great yet.

The Common Sense Greatness in this Program

I can’t say enough about this program. As my title indicates, there is such common sense and rationality about this approach. We are encouraged without criticism; we are given lessons without being preached to; and .we can access shared recipes that are not ridiculous. I say that, as I reflect on some of the commercials for the most popular diet programs - featuring all the wonderful desserts and snacks that you can buy and consume as part of their process. In my mind, that is ridiculous. If you don’t begin with a common sense approach for portion control AND for the consumption of snacks and desserts, how do you truly modified your eating behavior in a positive way. This program focuses on the best way to lose weight and sustain the loss. You adjust, you modify, you don’t apply guilt or false expectations, AND you ultimately achieve success - it may be slow, and it might be more deliberate, but like the race between the tortoise and the hare.........let’s remember who actually won the race!

Impersonal Program

This is the second weight loss program I’ve tried and yet again, nothing is tailored to your habits, eating history, exercise, etc. You will get the exact same information and “feedback” as everyone else. I tried this program for two weeks and I feel guilty my insurance provider paid for this.

The program is very deceiving in making it think your Coach or Group care about anything you provide as input. For example, I explained to my Coach in our initial contact my reasons for joining, goals, and challenges I wanted to overcome. I was left with essentially “that’s nice” and then just bombarded with daily rhetorical questions instead of actual feedback or analysis. After I stopped entering data or responding to questions, you would think my Coach would reach out or check in to see what’s up but nope. The lack of care makes this program so impersonal that you have to wonder why this program even exists.

Don’t join thinking you are going to get anything more than some canned lessons and programs that are available via a quick Google search. The food tracker is useless compared to other free apps. The only positive item is the scale linked to Omada .

What a great program!

this app is a wonderful program! They provide you with the tools you need to change your life! My coach supported me daily by being available for questions and by providing encouragement. The group support was also very helpful! You are part of a small group at first, all going through the same part of the program. You know you are not doing this alone! Later when you become part of a larger group, you still have the group support & encouragement.
The weekly lessons gave information that I was able to use to make changes to my diet & activity level. You are not expected to make big, drastic changes all at once, but make small changes, that become habits. These small habits are the lifestyle changes that will help keep the weight off.
I was able to lose weight, but also make some great changes to my cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure numbers! I feel much more energetic and healthy.
Thank you this app! You are a life changer!

Tried others - this works!

I was able to earn the this app program through earning points through the Smart Health program. I tried Noom last year and I was very overwhelmed and didn’t feel supported. The this app program has one lesson a week, the coach is quick to respond and supportive. With this app you are not counting calories, you are simply listing what you eat, then there are buttons small, med., large, not healthy, mostly healthy, good.
When the coach posts a prompt in the group chat it is nice to see others response. You also get your own personalized scale that talks to Omada . And tracks your weight. The only thing I wish they had was a place to track your exercise. this app only tracks steps. I just message my coach my exercise did the day, what I did and the duration. It is laid back, not time consuming, coaches are supportive and if you have the privilege of doing the Smart program it is free.

Excellent program and coaching staff

My doctor recommended me join this app for my weight and lifestyle management needs. Omada was easy to use and the coaching staff was personable and fantastic to work with. Ive learned a great deal about myself and my relationship with food; or lack thereof. The weigh-in and tracking process were seamless for me; as Omada immediately connected to my Fitbit watch and iPhone. With reminders and direct messages from my coach(es), I had no excuse not to track my progress and succeed.
Through weekly lessons, my success came in the form of an increased knowledge of food and its connectivity to everything around me. While Ive seen a decrease in my weight, Im more pleased with how I now see food and its purpose. The more I learned, the less Ive had to track my food as my lifestyle and habits changed. Which I believe is the true goal of this app, as oppossed to helping people lose weight; weight loss just happens to be a healthy byproduct!

This is so cool !

I just love it that I can monitor my blood & figure out what foods & drinks cause my blood to change & go higher & lower ! Also I see how my auger diabetes meds work & don’t work & the best part is my fingers are not being stuck & getting so sore ! I want to thank everyone that made this possible & came up with this awesome technology! EVERY one that has Diabetes should have the right to be on these blood measuring scanners because they work unlike the painful finger sticking machines that do not work most of the time at least for me & cost way to much. I just hope to God that after this program is over that My insurance would allow me to continue with it & if not that they would not be real expensive that I could afford to maybe continue with it because it is helping me 100% & Again Thank you ALL that made this possible for me ! You are ALL my Heroes !

Not diverse enough, unhelpful to me for sure

NOT trucker friendly. Only a few choices of groups. Can’t make a group of your own nor can you edit anything you post. Haven’t seen anything helpful to me so far and I’ve tried reading through everything. Weigh in is useless. I can’t carry that huge heavy scale in my already cluttered semi truck and there is no place to enter my weight myself. There is nowhere to enter my blood glucose levels either. You get no responses from your so called “coach”. Of the few groups a couple are so huge (14,000 people!!! seriously!!!) useless to join cannot keep up with posts let alone responses. Haven’t found any useful information really. Before I signed up I thought it was going to be smallish groups of people grouped by careers and or similarities so that we could get info that pertains to us and helps. This is basically just like being on Facebook and posting your junk for all to see
Only a couple “groups” to join. People offer idiotic advice that doesn’t even come close to fitting a trucking life. Google has better answers. Refund my insurance. I’m done.

Happy member

This program addressed personal responsibility to develop long term changes for a healthier lifestyle. It gave all the tools needed and lured you to look farther, making changes gradually which enabled me to adapt to it. I did not want to be diabetic, where I was headed. The changes in my overall blood tests was nothing short of amazing. And I lost a lot of weight! When I first received information on the program I knew I did not want this level of personal accountability and set out to do it on my own. Mistake and months lost so I finally did sign up. It was easy to learn to weigh in daily. It was easy to see where small changes made a difference. It was easy to use the reference materials and links to other sites. The lessons were thought provoking.
I honestly don’t think I would have ever accomplished this if my doctor had not guided me to the this app program.

I feel bad that my insurance company paid for this program

I have been trying to lose weight and exercise more on my own and just wasn’t succeeding, so I was excited when my insurance co offered me the chance to participate in this program. However, 6 wks in and I’m quitting. It’s a waste of my time and not helpful in the least. The food tracking is way too basic (way better off using MyFitnessPal, which tracks macros and breaks down nutritional info). Our first moderator was unable to get anyone engaged in the least, myself included. The issue is that all they do is just cut and paste these flat, pre-written prompts. The scale is fine but I already had one that tracked to my phone. The lessons and reading material aren’t anything I couldn’t google. I think this program and app might be helpful to someone who has zero knowledge at all about food/nutrition and has never tracked meals at all. Most people who struggle with their weight, however, have been trying on their own for a while and that’s not the case. Wish I had better things to say about this app but I’m out and going back to myfitnesspal app on my own.

Conscious Living

this app awakened my inner coach and in a sense holds me accountable for what I eat and what I do. Writing down what I eat and how often I eat force me to confront the fact that I am eating for reasons other than being hungry. Automated fitness tracking allows me to “check in” with myself on my level of activity when feeling tired or depressed. Typically, when my spirits or energy is low my activity level is low. So, I get up and get out. The philosophy is working for me at least. I weigh what I did when I was in high school. Blood pressure is normal and blood chemistry looks good as well including very healthy ldl and hdl levels and tryglyceride levels and ratios. But what I really enjoy seeing is the record of my daily activity. I set a goal of 7500 daily steps. If I am short at 8pm I will not be happy till I get the count above my daily goal. 😀. The concept is reality for me at least.

Thank you!

I appreciate the this app program! It has helped me understand my relationship with food and consequences of food choices. For example when I select high calorie foods, empty nutritionally, it shows up on the scale and how I feel physically. Also when I select more vegetables how I feel fuller, more energized and notice the numbers on the scale going down. It’s crazy! Thank you for my amazing Health Coach Kati, she has been super informative and knowledgeable. However you selected her for me was a genius as she is a perfect fit! And I absolutely love my pretty scale. Other than when I went to Louisiana for a week I weighed myself every morning first thing. Starting my day with the focused on my health as it relates to the numbers on the scale has helped me be more responsible and empowered my trajectory towards improved health. Ever grateful, Theresa Doal🌻

Extremely helpful!

This IS the most comprehensive/diverse/multi-facet/logical/scientific-based/“empower me when I’m weak”/HEALTHY IS for everyone, program I’ve ever come across!
Have I lost 60lbs in 6 weeks? Absolutely not…but I AM making better choices in regards to my overall health (mind, body, self-image, & confidence). I’m losing weight slowly, and yes, I’ve had some not-so-stellar weeks/months, but I’m headed in the right direction and feeling more “centered” than ever. Every week I’m learning something new OR reminded of the power and benefits of good healthy food choice practices which are scientifically proven. Try it if you are ready to better yourself, and the loved ones around you. You won’t be disappointed if willing to learn and stay the course. Wishing each of you, nothing but the BEST.

A program that teaches

I am in the pre-diabetes range. It’s been hard to lose weight because I just didn’t know where to start. I’ve tried several diets and after a few days or a few weeks I’m done with it..... I see how this program through this app works. It trains you to be mindful of what you eat and how much. It’s not a restrictive diet cuz we all know from experience those are short term results and sure to fail for most of us. It takes a little planning ( a list for groceries) and I’ve found that having healthy options for snacks handy helps me stay focused on nutrition. I have quite a bit to lose, it took a few years to accumulate ( after quitting smoking) so I know I have a year ahead of me to get this off. Slow and steady wins the race!

Love the program but.....

I love the program but have an issue with the computer entries. The computer program is unforgiving. If you have a typing error, you cannot correct it. If you remember something you cannot add it. This is a primitive program! No flexibility! I am speaking of the food diary section.

I also question the accuracy of the scale sent to us. I have worked hard to loose weight. I work out with a trainer at our local gym and have really cut back portion size as well as healthy food choices. I step on this scale daily. Each time the scale has shown weight loss. It varies from negative ounces to a pound loss at each weigh in. Today I asked for a body evaluation which measures fat, muscle and water weight. The scale at the gym was 2 lbs heavier than the weight shown on my scale. For someone who is working as hard as I am, each ounce of weight loss is a hard won victory. I came home so depressed. I thought I’d hit a 10lb weight loss victory. Not so.

On the positive side, I like the idea of journaling meals and daily weigh-ins. I especially enjoy the weekly lessons. I have learned a lot regarding seeds, grains and healthy choices. I look forward to learning more about making healthy choices when shopping, eating out, and cooking for my family.

Overall, a good program but really need to make the food journaling program more user friendly. Also scales need to be accurate.

Best Health/Weight Loss App Ever

I heard about this app from my employer. They paid for the program. It’s been 2 months and I’ve lost 15lbs (the right way). This is not a calorie counter program. My health coach is very helpful. She sent me a link the first week with amazing methods on how to cook veggies that actually taste decent. The food tracker is easy and not tedious like most other food tracker apps. The step counter is auto synced with my Apple health app. The best part is they send you a scale that is automatically configured to Omada . Every time you step on the scale it records and uploads the info to Omada , putting your progress in a very helpful line graph. I wish my kickoff group was more active but all and all this app is the real deal. 5 stars, hands down.

Good for beginners

I really wanted to like Omada, but it’s definitely targeted towards beginners. The resources are for people unfamiliar with how weight loss works who have a significant amount of weight to lose, not someone looking to lose a little weight to help lower blood pressure and/or diabetes risk factors. Participants are only that in name, and no one really participates in the discussions, something that this app touts as a key component to success. The scale is pretty cool, though I question the accuracy. I like that it’s lower than my weight watchers scale, but a beautiful lie is still a lie. All in all, this app is just a big “meh” for me that really only keeps me coming back because my insurance paid for it, and I want to make sure I’m holding myself accountable to the money that was paid for me to be on it. It’s nothing new, and is only for beginners. Anyone that has ever done anything fitness or nutrition wise has already surpassed what the lessons will teach you

I was happy with this program until I shared that I had diabetes 2 diagnosis

After 44 weeks loyalty to the program, daily weigh ins, participation in groups, daily walking and following the readings I was sent a very rude notice from the Coach who gave me 2 weeks to get a response form completed by my doctor or I would be dropped from the program. No concern for what I shared, no comments or support to what I can do to deal with my diet to help monitor my diabetes . She never asked if I had other support. I wrote the program and received a nicely written notice of needing a form to complete the program. I have decided that if the program couldn’t adjust to a change for my diet that it is to canned of a program to serve my needs.

Omada is an excellent whole person centered health program

I’ve been with this app for 8-9 months and would like to give it 5 stars! this app has stuck with me this entire time and my journey has been bumpy. this app provides a lot of excellent information in a way that is motivating, compassionate, patient, and effective. The weekly lessons are fantastic, and the fun tools are also great. Having a coach and group of other individuals on their own personal journey is one of the best things. In the beginning I used my group and my coach a lot but as I’ve become more independent I use them less but to know they will always be there is so so rewarding and such an important factor for my success! I would absolutely recommend to anyone!

Some glitches

For the most part, I like Omada. Sometimes I log in and it doesn’t want to update. Also I can’t seem to edit my posts or view what I have posted. I went to update my dinner last night, then went to add my snacks after that, but then that reminder just disappeared so I couldn’t add my snacks for the day. I usually use pictures to upload my food, but never seem to be able to see it on my end after posting. Also, I wish I could view previous days or possibly view the next day (so I can track ahead of time like I can with MyFitness Pal). Usually during the week, I eat the same breakfast. I also like to plan ahead, so if I can add my food (even typing it in) ahead of time, that would be awesome. Also have a separate way to track water??? I don’t include it in my meals/pictures.

By

Poor tracking

The program is friendly and easy to take in but Omada is terrible. The food tracking is the worst. It doesn’t provide any feedback about nutrition (sodium, calories, fats, proteins, serving sizes) - you just enter things (good habit) but it is not smart and doesn’t have a good search feature externally, just searches for what you all ready entered...and not even between meal types. For example, if I ate something for a snack, Omada isn’t smart enough to make it available when search for it at lunch.

It didn’t sync with other apps so important program measurables like steps and water intake while required to be measured are not unless I use 3 different apps. I can’t enter my water directly into this app. If I enter it on iHeath, I have to convert things into the metric system (not going to happen). I am using my FitBit app for steps and now water but it’s not captured in this app.

By

Poorly Executed

My employer provides free enrollment in the this app program, so I decided to give it a try. I found the program to be very high level, simplistic and only barely personalized. There was essentially no interaction with my “group” and the “personal” interactions with my coach were mostly canned messages or reminders. The one time I asked my coach a real question about a diet plan, the reply was incorrect and scientifically invalid.

I have filled out a survey they sent out, explaining my disappointment and poor impression of the program. I also requested information on how to return the scale they give you, and no one has bothered to contact me...not even my coach.

I found that my usual routine of diet and exercise was much more effective for me, and I actually gained weight while in the this app program. Once I went back to my usual routine, I quickly got back to my baseline weight, and continued to lose some of the last few stubborn pounds that I was hoping the this app program would help me tackle.

I have asked several of my coworkers who are also enrolled, and I’m getting very similar reviews. I am very disappointed in the program, and shudder to think what my employer paid for this. They say all the right things up front, but the execution, especially the promise of personalization, motivational interactions and coaching, are just not there.

About as good as it gets

Omada itself is easy to navigate. Not perfect but easy. It’s organized well and not too busy. Syncs with Apple health and other programs so that you don’t have to enter info twice. One thing that might be an improvement and that would be the ability to scan food items for easier documentation. The other improvement would be some tweaks to how the group chat works, to be able to tell when new comments have been added as well as an easier way to get to the main thread once you’re inside a comment thread.
The program is excellent. The info is super easy to understand and helpful. And I’m losing weight!

This program has not worked out well for me. My employer recently switched to Cigna and soon after I got the invitation to join Omada. I had success using the Lose It app (for free) and creating my own eating plan. In fact, prior to starting the program, I was told by my Dr. that I was no longer pre-diabetic. So far, the only thing I have gotten from my coach are what appear to be "canned" questions/suggestions. In fact, I received the exact same "check in question/suggestion" one month apart, leading me to believe that there is no actual human being on the other end of that. I really do think it's just a "bot". I will be quitting the program as I have found greater success on my own, doing my own thing.

TJ   2 years ago

Cigna says this program is the answer to diabetes rather than covering glp medications for someone with two co-morbidities. The program is a support group for first time weightloss participants. It is not for folks who have tried multiple methods to lose weight. I don’t know how Cigna doctors sleep at night. It’s a shame and the program is not meant for complex cases. Cigna needs to be seriously evaluated and investigated.

I do not feel like you should contact people and say that you can do this program but then turn around and say no we can't help you! You basically spammed my email.

Christine A. Reichardt   2 years ago

I agree with many of these posts. it is really demoralizing. There isn’t a coach… just a computer prompt that sends articles based on your questions. the food diary is a joke. it asks you to rate your meal as healthy, kinda healthy or not healthy. Frankly if you know what to eat you wouldn’t need the app/coach. I spent HOURS trying to get my apps to sync so i would get credit for my steps, water but never could get it to work. it is ridiculous to wait 48 hours for their app to catch up with map my run etc. it never tells you the impact of your exercise on your diet. $500 is crazy for this program…. I wish I could sell the scale back

This thing is a complete joke nothing more than a rip off and a scam

The app doesn't sync with Samsung health on the Droid. It's demotivating and frustrating... might as well not have the Omada app. Samsung health is reliable.
