how is it in 2025 anybody is deploying such poorly designed apps? First of all a stupid reason to force me to now have two separate apps for AMEX. And then after I’ve been forced to do that, I cannot filter by the options which allow me to use my benefits. In the past, I would search for a hotel in a city, and there would be selection buttons where I could select the hotel collection. And if sold out it would show up and say sold out. Now, as an example, I search Syracuse and there are zero options for fine hotels or hotels collection. So, does that mean those hotels are sold out and so doesn’t present? Or does it mean that there are none in the collection in Syracuse? Well, now, after having to download a second app, which never went through any usability testing, I have to call into the call center to speak to an agent who also wasn’t able to answer that question. So here is the short of it if you want to know if there is a hotel collection property in a city, download a second app, then call into the call center, then go to Google and ask AI if it knows.
It takes less than 5 minutes of being in another app before this closes in the background and requires me to log in again. Add onto that the fact that they don’t save your search history and you get a very frustrating combination that makes me re enter my search parameters over and over again when I’m trying to do research. This is no better than the website was in the first place for specifically this reason.
Basically a glitzy splash screen that immediately reverts to a browser which kicks you out after a single search. Just garbage. It’s why I’ve not used the travel app on the web either. Amex is just too difficult to use. Expedia is so much better and I have the Amex platinum card but even the points you earn aren’t worth the pain of this absolutely terrible app.
This is light years better than the previous Amex Travel website but still falls short in many ways from what one would expect of a “world class” credit card and travel company. Why is there no map search or any ability to view hotel locations on an embedded map without clicking out of AmexTravel ? Why does AmexTravel not let you scroll randomly so you only can view the first few hotels in a list of dozens? Why can’t you scroll through photos but have to individually open each photo then go back to the main menu to click the next photo? These are BASIC functions of a travel e-commerce app. I’ll be back in a few months to see if any improvement.
It’s just opens a browser window to book flights just like the other app; and then when I was about to book, it kicked me out because it said i wasn’t active for 5 minutes; but I had been active in its browser trying to book. Pretty frustrating and expected a better app from Amex
Gorgeous app, and hopefully will be great to use in the near future. Unfortunately really buggy right now. Constantly logging out in the middle of a search, seemingly randomly. Might be able to review one hotel, but after that you are dumped back to the login screen and have to do 2FA to get in again despite having asked at the very beginning to not require it anymore. The constant need to log in and log back in has always been the Achilles heel of Amex Travel and why I have given up on booking on the platform many times. Seems like AmexTravel thus far is one step worse than the website. Very frustrating to use.
I don’t understand the purpose of downloading AmexTravel if anything I click on opens an in-app browser window and just takes me to the American Express website. Even worse, when I do that I get the pop up to open and use the Amex travel app when I’m already in AmexTravel 🥴
AmexTravel may as well be a book mark in my phone’s default web browser.
I’ve used AmexTravel a lot since getting my Amex Platinum as I am planning a major trip. While the deals Amex has are fantastic AmexTravel is getting on my nerves. It times out very quickly. If you pause to look up information like your loyalty number it will time out. Log back in? Well no matter where you were you will have to start over. Then it will freeze in certain spots. While trying to book a flight it kept freezing when I tried to enter my known traveler number. It would notify me that it was timing out but I couldn’t click on continue because the keyboard was frozen above the notification (this could definitely be an IOS problem but it happened over and over). I do want to continue using so I hope they will fix these issues (if for security reasons Amex insists on the short time out time please allow it to go back to the same spot when we come back.
Inability to filter search results for a hotel brand or name makes app extremely cumbersome compared to the website.
App doesn’t list all my upcoming trips booked online or through Platinum Travel. I see my upcoming trips on the website but I don’t see my cruises for example in AmexTravel .
I do like the wish list functionality however. That is a nice feature and glad to see that my wish lists that I created in AmexTravel now also shows up on the this app website.
Needs map view for hotels and more multi city options for flights.
Only been using it briefly but one thing I noticed is they could add a filter for fine hotels and resorts / hotel collection and just aim to make it have the full capability that the website has
EDIT: I changed locations and the filer for fine hotels and resorts comes up but not hotel collection. I think those filters should be permanently visible. It’s a bit confusing.
Its faster than the website, but everytime I log into AmexTravel I wish the previous search was saved.
Also its really annoying when you click on a picture of a hotel while reserving it you cannot swipe your finder to see the next picture, you have to click back and see another picture. Also cannot be rotated for better horizontal view.
I’ve been waiting for AmexTravel a while now. It’s clean and laid out well. However, flights are still not actually part of AmexTravel . It just opens up a browser page within the application.
My past HC & FHR stays are also missing. Just stays from 2025 showing, nothing prior.
Two step verification “save this device” doesn’t seem to work. Also would like to see search history or repeat searches, save preferences for rooms and travelers etc
The Amex Travel app is absolutely best in class. It’s incredibly easy to use, super user friendly, and makes booking or managing travel completely seamless. The experience feels intuitive from start to finish and sets the standard for what a travel app should be.
Huge shout out to the team behind AmexTravel. It’s clear they did a stellar job building something that makes life easier for cardmembers. This only reinforces that Amex is still the best in the business.
I feel like once Air feels complete I won’t need to do my bookings on web anymore.
I’d like more Platinum-feeling flourishing to go with my LuLuLemon quarterly credits, but that is not worth knocking a star off.
Seamless experience and a massive upgrade from web. Looking forward to more native experiences - features and functionality related to easier searches and planning. Well done, Amex!
Such a great app for trip planning! Love being able to save destinations to my wishlist and get inspiration for future travel. Super easy to use and makes booking with Amex a breeze.
The new Amex Travel app is a huge upgrade! It feels modern fast and polished compared to the old webview experience inside the Amex mobile app. The design is sleek and intuitive, making it much easier to search and book trips. Everything feels more seamless and optimised for mobile, and it’s big improvement for managing travel directly from my phone natively. Excited to see this evolve further, but already a fantastic step forward. 🤘🏼
