Pay Wall & Annoying Pop-Up

2026-03-01

by Bobette134

This is the most annoying app I have ever downloaded in my entire life. Despite not being mentioned in the description, you do have to pay a subscription for all of the features, aside from recipes. Recipes are the only thing you can access free. At first, it appears like you can use it without a subscription, but everything you click on results in a pop-up, trying to force you into the sub subscription. Apparently the developer does not understand that there has to be something I love about the app for me to want to try out the upgraded features. But overall, it’s absolutely annoying. The pop-up that comes up has a little countdown, and you must look at the premium upgrade until it counts all the way down. You cannot just close it immediately. And it persistently pops up. I can get recipes on the Internet. There’s absolutely no reason to use this app. And if there’s no reason to use it, there’s definitely no reason to upgrade.

Beware of Subscriptions!!!!

I understand that in 2025 everything is subscription based now but for an app that is just supposed to tell me if my starter is alive or not is kind of ridiculous. I should t have to pay for taking a picture of something.. I can just as easily look it up online. If the subscription portion was tied to being able to utilize the journal or other parts of the app I could understand that.. but the whole point of the app (at least to my knowledge) is to be able to scan your starter and that’s it. It should be free because there are a ton of free apps that let you scan all types of things without subscribing.

This app requires a paid subscription, it’s cheap enough so I tried it. For a month straight it said the exact same thing every single time I scanned starter vs discard jar (they look completely different on top). Every loaf was the same score and description. I believe someone started the app as a money grab with little to no knowledge regarding sourdough. Disappointing to say the least, waste of money to say the most.
