I downloaded this to check if items I already have in my fridge are vegan or not as I transition into my vegan diet. First I scanned blueberry eggo waffles and it said “unsure” and under the list of unknown ingredients, every single one was there. To give it the benefit of the doubt, I scanned a bag of my partners frozen chicken nuggets. The same result came up: unsure. The only benefit of IsItVegan is it has all the ingredients on your screen so you can read them yourself more easily. Doesn’t tell you if it’s vegan or not though.

I used this back in 2014 and it was amazing. Pretty much every food you scanned was found and there were not pop up ad. Now, every single time you scan something it pops up with an ad. And the thing is, out of the 3 items I was attempting to search, none of them were loaded. I immediately deleted it. What a disappointment because I remember how great IsItVegan was!

IsItVegan is horrible!!! I have had it well over a year. I stopped using it a year ago because every product I scanned (and I mean EVERY!!!) came up as unknown. I kept IsItVegan around in hopes that eventually it would improve but this last month; after using it even more, the same happened..."product unknown" there has been ZERO improvement in it's database. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Trash app!!! Create your own app that actually scans food (unlike is it vegan) and you'll come up!

My mom and I are vegans and used app religiously. Unfortunately, We are finding products claimed to be vegan in app which are not. To give you an example: the most recent item found in app claimed as vegan which IS NOT vegan is Bark This snacking chocolate (dark chocolate coconut & almond). They may fix this product based on this message but there are other products like this claimed as vegan but are not. I tried emailing IsItVegan service but cannot find a workable email in contact page so posting this review as my last resort.

Bottom line, IsItVegan cannot be trust for vegans.

It use to be ok as it needed improvement. But now it doesn’t work for me at all. I had even bought it when it first came out. It worked much better when you purchased it. But now it doesn’t work, I keep getting invalid barcode message. Also I’m getting ad’s now, I paid for it so I shouldn’t be getting ad’s. So yeah it disappointing and I don’t recommend IsItVegan as it just seems easier to look it up the regular way. They really need to keep up to date with the newer technology. It was a nice idea but poor execution.

It looked promising but I wasn't able to really play with IsItVegan . Before I decide to purchase the full app I like to test out the free version first like most people. How can one do so when every click and swipe triggers an advertisement (even timed 3-second ads) that take up the whole screen. This is in addition to the continuos smaller banner ads at the bottom.

While I would love to support any vegan-focused business, it would have been nice to first preview the features of IsItVegan without the bombardment of apps between each click.

I see a good attempt here to make a helpful app, but there needs to be more thought put into what makes something “vegan.” For example, some people are fine with eating honey, while others consider palm oil to be not vegan because its cultivation devastates animal habitats and causes extinction. I see they’ve addressed the “sugar controversy,” but this appears to be the only consideration of opinion. I’d like to see IsItVegan updated to reflect people’s personal journeys. More options in Settings please! This may encourage more people to use it.

Edit: After using it I do see what people mean in the other reviews. It said this bag of Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream was Definitely Vegan. And only lists three or four ingredients total. When I looked on the bag there was milk in it. Kind of annoying. Great start for people like myself who are new to looking for vegan and nonvegan ingredients in food. I went to test it out in my kitchen and it only recognized a couple of barcodes. Which was a little disappointing in the way of convenience. But I'm still able to type in the information and find out that way. So it's not too bad.

I think that it would be helpful to have a button to report inaccurate results. I have been trying this out to see if it would be helpful for friends and family who would like to accommodate my food choices. It is a great start, but if we could report inaccuracies and correct them, it could be a great crowd sourcing way to improve IsItVegan .

Almost everytime I'd scan an item, an ad would pop up. Sometimes the "x" doesn't even work on the ad and then I have to restart IsItVegan . It shouldn't irritate me so much but the ad shows up before I can even know if it's vegan or not. But other than that, it seems accurate and I will probably be using this a lot.

App works really well but needs to have to data base updated frequently to keep up with products. Seems they want users to type in ingredients from products not in the data base already...nobody is going to do that c'mon! If you make an App don't expect users to update it for you. Other than that works great.

IsItVegan is extremely helpful. Quickly scan a barcode and it will give you a breakdown of which ingredients are vegan, vegetarian, may not be vegan, may not be vegetarian, etc. There are quite a few ads, but it's the free version! You can definitely tell if you like IsItVegan and want to buy it even with all the advertisements.

IsItVegan is a really great concept! It is very helpful. However, I wish it were a little more accurate. Also, if it registered more barcodes, that would be great! Like I said, it's a great concept! It just needs a little work! It's great for new Vegans to learn more about what is and isn't vegan. I just thing a few improvements on the accuracy would make it so much better!

I love IsItVegan. I have been vegan for almost a year and I am still amazed at how people manage to sneak animal products into things I would never suspect. Being able to scan an item right in the store and get instant feedback cuts back time on label reading as well as teaches me the technical names of certain ingredients I may not otherwise be aware are not vegan friendly. Awesome!

I’ve been vegan for almost three years now, and this still comes in handy. There are so many weird ingredients that have the possibility of being derived from animal products. IsItVegan helps so much when you’re a new vegan or if you’re unsure about something!

Works great, makes watching labels so, so much easier. Even if you aren't vegan this is a great tool for keeping an eye on what is in your food. So far I have only come across a handful if items that are not in the database, and it seems to be expanding because I hardly ever get a "no results found" anymore. Thanks!

This is a really good app. I’ve used it for 4-5 years here and there. I do also double check the ingredients list myself just in case it said something is vegan that actually isn’t. For the past 6 months IsItVegan can’t even be used. As soon as I open it IsItVegan crashes and kicks me back to my home screen. You can’t even post on the apps page directly to IsItVegan developers with this issue it said 405 action not allowed or something. Don’t know if they even care at this point. I was hoping that there would still be updates for it, improvements, bug fixes, etc but there’s been nothing. Really disappointed and going to delete IsItVegan .

You don't have to be vegan or vegetarian to use, and appreciate IsItVegan. *No more tiny unreadable mouse print * It will help you to be able to read - and better understand - what ingredients are in the food you buy no matter what your diet is. Reading and being better informed of what is in that so-called food - will help some people make better choices.

I love how convenient IsItVegan is. It’s helpful to just scan the barcode when grocery shopping instead of reading through ingredients. I think it can be a little confusing for potential app users because there is a scale from definitely vegan to definitely not vegan, when either it’s vegan or not, no in between. I believe it includes vegetarian though. Otherwise IsItVegan is awesome!

There are lots of items one might not find BUT if you go to FAQ it will explain and makes total sense... AANNDD it's about time we (vegans) get some help here specially new vegans. I've been for 9 months now and still need help at times. Therefore this is perfect!!! I strongly believe that in the near future there will b more and more vegan support as well as people... This so is simply amazing

The ranch corn nuts product is currently being listed in your app as containing dairy which it does not. I have confirmed with Peta, along with looking at the back of the bag, and this product is fully vegan. Your app states we can email you to correct any errors we may find but anytime I try to do so it is giving me an error message.
