Refund. Me. Now.

Give me all of my money back. I don’t write app reviews, but there is no way to get any type of response from customer service. I was a brand new paying subscriber that needed assistance with a billing/technical issue. I’ve reached out via email multiple times for a week with no response, which is valuable time and money going down the drain as I wait on customer service to respond to what should be a simple request.
After many automated emails, I went to social media dms to try to get ahold of someone. My question could easily have been taken care of with a quick phone call but they don’t offer any type of customer service phone call.
This has created much more stress and frustration on me, all while my paid subscription dwindles down. I was now charged for TWO different subscriptions that Im not using. You’ve been unable to assist me in a simple request so PAY ME BACK….all of it. This “partial refund” automated refund wizard thing isn’t the right approach. I never used your services, only spent time trying to figure out how to get set up correctly!
Take This Advice CS- If you don’t have enough customer service support to handle new clients, pause taking in new subscribers until you can fully serve them. Week long delays and keeping my money is not right. I’m done trying to make Talkspace work for me on my own.
Bottom line - I’ve cancelled my account(s) and I expect Full Refunds now.

NOT SAFE! Please do not use!!!

I paid hundreds of dollars just for my psychiatrist to meet with me once and then to never respond to me again, despite my many attempts to contact her. She prescribed me new medication and then never once followed up on it, which was incredibly unprofessional and unsafe. I then emailed TalkSpace support, who informed me that I couldn’t get a refund, but I could get rematched and spend more money to have another initial appointment. This whole experience took about 3 or 4 months of my time that could’ve been spent getting better. I already have a hard time asking for help, and this only added frustration and exhaustion. Don’t waste your money or your time!

UPDATE: As you can see, Talkspace responded to this review. Don’t be fooled—nothing was done after this response; it’s all for show. Many months later, I was finally able to find a psychiatrist who was committed to helping me. Upon telling her about my experience with Talkspace, she was very concerned and told me that this was extremely unsafe and could’ve been so much worse if I was in a worse place mentally. I was also misdiagnosed and given very incorrect medication, which negatively impacted my life. Please please don’t jeopardize your mental health. For an app that specializes in mental health, this is unacceptable. I am so worried for others who get tricked into using TalkspaceTherapyandSupport. This is not a safe app to use.

Waste of time

I’ve used TalkspaceTherapyandSupport for a few months because it’s a benefit my job provides. I am in MA and I specifically requested to be matched with a female provider. For 2 weeks, TalkspaceTherapyandSupport was only matching me with male providers. I almost gave up but finally saw 1 female provider I could choose. As we started working together, the advice I was getting was very generic, stuff you already know and can read on the internet: for ex., have you tried meditation or breathing exercises? I asked my colleagues who also use this service and they were having the same experiences. It felt like my provider was not even paying attention to half of the stuff I was saying. In the end, I switched to a real psychologist from my insurance network. It is so much more helpful than getting these generic advices over text that I can already predict the responses to. I don’t think the selection criteria to become a Talkspace provider is very high. They just train people to provide some generic responses. If you really need help and want to see progress, don’t waste your time. As for TalkspaceTherapyandSupport itself, why isn’t there an option to freeze your account for more than 1 week? Sometimes people need a longer break. And why do you even ask for gender preferences of the provider and then provide the opposite matches?

Complete and total silence

I signed up for TalkspaceTherapyandSupport on Saturday, searched for therapists using so many different “problems” criteria but still only ever was recommended one guy! So off the bat, there was no choice in who you work with. 😌 I messaged him on Saturday, no response, Sunday no response. (Just a hello and a clarification on my intro.) I booked him for a 10 minute free session on Tuesday morning and a one hour paid session on Thursday afternoon, figuring if he’s the only choice I can cancel Thursdays call after the Tuesday one if it’s not a good fit. I log in on Tuesday for the meeting and the meeting is gone! Had been canceled on his end, and I hadn’t been sent a notification. 😌 I messaged him to ask about it, no response. Also, my Thursday appointment said “awaiting confirmation” still as of Wednesday morning. So he’s MIA. I messaged customer service about it on Tuesday (the only contact option available on TalkspaceTherapyandSupport ), and as of Wednesday morning there’s been no response from customer service either!! I messaged the therapist asking him to cancel the Thursday appointment so I don’t initiate some kind of automatic cancellation charge. I canceled my subscription. And I googled a support phone number off TalkspaceTherapyandSupport . There was no support available so I left a message. 😄 so…….. absolutely do not recommend if you need therapy lol.

Only do it if your employer sponsors it

TalkspaceTherapyandSupport is a joke. I’ve never had any issues when my employer was paying for the membership. I no longer work for said employer, and I decided to input my insurance information to continue using this platform. It said that I had an available 45 minute session credit, but yet my provider still billed my insurance. I had to jump through hoops (DMing them on Twitter and emailing them) for Joanna to break it down to me that a “credit” is not a credit. Why would you call it a credit to mislead people? My therapist’s approach also wasn’t worth the price — I’d tell her what I’m going through, and she’d be like “that’s a lot to take in, how are you taking care of yourself?” If I knew the answers, I wouldn’t be in therapy. I refer my partner to TalkspaceTherapyandSupport, it says we both get $200, and yet my partner keeps getting billed even though they only booked 1 free 10 minute session and cancelled the other appointment. Talkspace also never said that the $200 would be paid out in credits until I emailed Joanna, and she said there was no other way for them to pay me my referral money besides credits. This is an absolute joke — run away from this. It’s not worth your time, there’s too much false advertisement and lack of accountability.

I would give it “0 stars” if that were an option

My experience mirrors that of many other dissatisfied users. I received
one month of unlimited messaging therapy as a gift. For over a week I checked my account and contacted customer service to see if my gift card had been applied to my account, as it did not show that on TalkspaceTherapyandSupport . Finally someone told me that it had been. At this point I’ve wasted almost two weeks. Their providers are also slow to respond and when they do, the responses seem scripted or canned. I switched providers after my first counselor only had me fill out questionnaires only to receive no feedback or fill me in on what was happening. The second counselor seemed promising & after sending her a detailed message (at her request), she finally replied that she had resigned from Talkspace and they would match me with someone else. That was over two weeks ago and the matching agent has ghosted me too. If I had not received this as a gift, I would be more irritated because it’s expensive if you have to pay out-of-pocket. My month will expire soon and so far TalkspaceTherapyandSupport has been no help. I would even say their model seems predatory on people in vulnerable situations.

Not ready for giving care through text. =(

I was excited about TalkspaceTherapyandSupport because it has the chat feature so you and a therapist can communicate through text. This is a main feature if Talkspace. The two therapists I tried weren’t ready for giving care this way. Both had been counselors before they joined talk space, so maybe they were used to doing hour long therapy sessions rather than texting. The first therapist didn’t even answer me on chat, just told me we would talk about it in the appointment which I didn’t want to do, and the second one got short with me and seemed frustrated when I expressed my desire to use the texting feature.
I just need someone to ask me questions to help me figure out what’s going on in my mind and then help me learn how to heal it. This is definitely doable with a chat feature. I am able to communicate much more honestly and learn way better this way. Maybe the therapists will get more used to this kind of communication.

For now I recommend Noom’s Healthy Mind program if you’re like me and need to be able to text. They have coaches who know how to give care through text and so have been much more responsive and helpful in the chat.

I wish I could give zero stars

They aren’t transparent about their billing. I am getting charges from October and it is now February even though I had insurance that I was told “fully covered” my plan, all of these charges started rolling in when I got new insurance in January and tried to update my account. Not only that, my therapist and I met on a biweekly basis and the person who emailed me insisted their “system” shows me meeting weekly, which was simply NOT true. I can’t believe an app like this exists with this many issues. The user experience is absolutely terrible and you can’t even delete your own account?

Anyway, I refuse to pay these bills I am getting until I can SPEAK to someone on the phone. Don’t you dare tell me to send another email. I had MULTIPLE open customer service tickets that went unanswered for weeks. But they had no problem sending me billing messages. Once I finally got a response I told them to remove my credit card information from their system and to close my account. I will make a point to tell anyone considering TalkspaceTherapyandSupport to not use it. You all are preying on people seeking help with your shady billing processes.

$400 for 5 Text Responses/week

I’ve never done traditional therapy, but wanted to give this a try because the idea of being able to express my thoughts at anytime seemed appealing. I understood the therapist would only respond when they are working, but my experience amounted to me getting a one 30 secondish sound bite from my therapist a day. I think the concept is really cool, if it worked as intended, it would actually make therapy a lot easier for people especially those who are thinking about trying it out for the first time! But the price is pretty ridiculous to just get 1 response/day - 4x a week. Oh and I spent half of my first subscription matching because my first therapist never responded back, after I poured my heart out answering her “get to know me” questions. My advice is you can reach the same type of help you would get from Talkspace just by journaling, but if you really need help, find the time to go to a therapist. It’s actually cheaper too.. Again, great concept. Maybe some day when therapist are hired for this platform specifically and can actually deliver support rather than IG like comments on your thoughts.

Unresponsive - No Therapists?

I don’t normally leave reviews, but for this I just had to. I signed up with this a while back, probably about a month and a half ago. At first, I was speaking to the person who matches you to a therapist, they were responsive and helpful. then, as soon as i chose a plan, the marcher no longer responded to me. Then the waiting began. After about 2 weeks of not being matched STILL, I was concerned I was paying 300 dollars for nothing, so i reached out to their customer service. They advised me sometimes it can take a little bit to find a good therapist match for you. I am a patient person, so i thanked them for reassuring me, and continued to wait. it has now been 3 and a half additional weeks, still 0 contact from any therapists. I think if TalkspaceTherapyandSupport wants to truly work, they need way more therapists so people can get the help they need. i tried to do this virtually (therapy) as it works better for my schedule, but now i’m going to have to find something in person, as i can’t seem to be matched online. How unfortunate.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Terrible App… Let me tell you why

After creating a profile I was automatically set up with a therapist who had “no availability”. There is no way to pick a new therapist at this point. I reached out to customer support… 6 days later I got a response apologizing for the delay and if I still had the same issue to respond to that email? The therapist did respond and let me know she avoids showing availability but rather chats with the person to determine this… I’m sorry… using my therapy time to (billed or not) to talk schedules. I work full time, TalkspaceTherapyandSupport has a button to view availability under the guise you can schedule time… so thats just optional. The therapist also mentioned she was in a different location so it wouldn't work (insurance billing wise) like i was the one who picked her or the location. - The user experience/patient experience is sorely lacking to say the least. My employer pays for this benefit. I will be reaching out to them and asking them to not use them in the future and opt for other options that are easier for users/people seeking out therapy.

Used to be helpful..

When I first joined TalkSpace a few years back, it did wonders. I felt that that therapists genuinely cared, weren’t overbooked, and I received responses quickly. I assume in combination with the pandemic and the fact that every single podcast ever is adventuring Talkspace, it’s become incredibly over crowded, therapists are too busy (I got tossed around so many times, after not even speaking to them but receiving a message that they could not accept any more patients). I got increasingly frustrated with this and eventually deleted TalkspaceTherapyandSupport . I wanted to come back, and kept trying, but my therapists I was matched to were not helpful but instead send me paragraphs of “what to know” for well over a week before I could even tell them what I needed help with. I kept trying to be re matched but continued to encounter the same issue. Finally was matched with someone great, but she kept going on vacation! It got to the point tonight where I was just done. I’m considering paying $200 a week again for therapy, but at least it’ll be more help than TalkspaceTherapyandSupport.

You’re getting much less than what you pay for.

Think of the bare minimum platitudes you might’ve got from a school therapist. To give you a point of reference, the selections of therapists on TalkspaceTherapyandSupport are less than half as useful as that, if they even respond to you that is. I personally went through four different therapists, two of which immediately ghosted me for two entire weeks after introductions with no scheduled vacations mentioned in TalkspaceTherapyandSupport whatsoever to prepare me for that. One therapist simply sent me a PDF file of self-help strategies and wouldn’t even let me talk to them one on one about my own personal struggles that I sought therapy for in the first place. It’s like paying 300$ a month to be gaslit into feeling like it’s your fault you aren’t getting anything out of your therapy by a bunch of automated responses that will constantly antagonize you for wanting more out of the service. I was very patient and I’m sure the individual therapists have little control over the poor system, but don’t trust Better Help.

Awesome therapist, not so awesome app

I have had an amazing experience with my provider with communication and rescheduling appointments, but TalkspaceTherapyandSupport will NOT work whenever I join a video session. It will just say “waiting for others to join” and we both will be communicating back and forth in the chat box with no luck on the video session. I am definitely a face to face person so I purchased the 4 video sessions per month and am upset that I have yet to be able to use it. If this problem could be resolved I would be more than happy to give 5 stars because my provider is awesome.

If you need help on the app, don’t worry, it’ll never come.

I was using my work benefits so I didn’t lose out on money, but the fact that i wrote to customer service and i haven’t even gotten indication that my ticket was under review after nearly two weeks is simply unacceptable. I couldn’t even make an appointment despite having a credit, if you can’t reply to customers then maybe cater to less of them, because i genuinely need mental help and the stress of not being able to get the help i need has legitimately given me multiple mental breakdowns. I feel like I am being punished for not being able to properly communicate, one of the the very same issues I came to TalkspaceTherapyandSupport to fix. At this point it’s a whole lot easier to just continue on with my addictions and friendless life than it is to reach out for help. If you like good customer support, then don’t worry, I along with quite a few others i’ve seen are proof that those said agents might not exist, or if they do, are drowning in work.

Highly Unresponsive and unreliable

I have been dealing with postpartum rage and anxiety. I was going through a particular rough patch and was advised to find a therapist for treatment. I have twin babies and unable to get out the house so I decided to take the online route. On November 10th I spoke with Ivanna at Talkspace that recommended I work with a therapist that specializes in maternal mental health. I was then able to find a recommended therapist named Denise Davis-Moore. I was advised Denise would respond to my message or reach out to me within 24 hours. 10 days past and I never got a response from Denise. I had also scheduled my first live online session roughly a week out and Denise never confirmed and ended up missing the session all together. I then reached out to customer support asking for a refund and they too were unresponsive. They didn’t respond until I reached out again asking for a reply to my original question. I have finally received my refund but I must say I’m highly disappointed and dissatisfied with their service altogether.

Bad Support, Extremely Overpriced

I won’t completely diminish Talkspace because I found an incredible therapist that has been heaven sent in helping me work on my mental health.

However, Talkspace support is absolutely terrible. The only way to reach support is via email, and responses are never returned in a timely manner. Based off my own experiences, I have had to wait at least a week or two for a response from support. Within TalkspaceTherapyandSupport , there’s also all these glitches, so during times I took a break from talkspace, I had to be re-matched to my provider all over again each time only delaying when I can start as a result. Additionally, the pricing for the services even on the most basic plan are outrageous.

I recently got a new insurance that I selected specifically because it is accepted by talkspace and I wanted to keep my therapist since she’s been amazing. Only to find out that even with a strong health care plan, I won’t be saving any money as it appears Talkspace has now nearly doubled their fees on even the most basic of services. For the most basic plan and having comprehensive insurance coverage, I am looking at nearly $350 per month which is double what I used to pay.

Do better Talkspace. Stop overcharging especially when you can’t even provide the customer service support or full-scale of services to charge such a high price

You have to use all live sessions within the month

The live sessions do not roll over to the next month. This service was beneficial to me and helped me. But I feel robbed because it wasn’t clear to me how many sessions I had. I have a busy life and I lost track in the month how many I had and used. So over the three months I had it I probably missed out on at least two sessions. There is no accounting of live sessions bought or sessions booked in TalkspaceTherapyandSupport . TalkspaceTherapyandSupport does not tell you any message like, “you have 2 of 4 live sessions available”. I feel this is underhand. Customer service said, “Book all sessions for the month at once so you don’t miss any sessions”. That’s great, but we have busy lives and may not have a clear schedule a month in advance. It’s almost like they don’t want to be clear how many sessions you have left and hope you don’t book all the sessions within the month so they can pocket the money. I’m giving it one star for this reason.

Predatory billing methods!

Talkspace gives you the option of texting through the week as a session, or having a one to one 45-minute session. However Talkspace does not differentiate between messages about the mechanics of the sessions and actual therapy messages. So when your therapist messages you to do an assessment before your session, that counts as texting. When your therapist sends you a bunch of handouts or files, that counts as a session.

In my case, I was authorized 5 sessions through my EAP, and was billed for two sessions for each of the two weeks, and then even though the therapist could see I still had another session, all of my future appointments were cancelled. My only recourse was to send an email, which I was told had a typical response time of 4-6 weeks.

I’ve filed a formal complaint with the EAP and my HR, as it’s their money that is being wasted. I wouldn’t recommend anyone use this provider until they can stop their predatory billing practices.

Look Elsewhere

Finding a provider is really hard and overwhelming, and can take a lot of time. When I saw the promises made by TalkspaceTherapyandSupport I had some hope to be matched and start talking to someone (honestly anyone). They said it would be 48 hours to be matched with a provider….it took closer to 72, but that’s okay because they sent an email saying they were busier than normal after I signed up. That’s forgivable because FINALLY I have a match! …silence, so I initiated the conversation and then several hours later got a generic response on how TalkspaceTherapyandSupport works and “tell me why you are here, I am logging off today but I’ll respond tomorrow”. Great, so I give my background. That was 3 business days ago, (and a weekend) and I have messaged every day and still no response. I also started a ticket with support asking if there is something I am supposed to do for a response, that was 2 business days ago with no response. Very disappointed. Please avoid if you need help.

Great new service

I can’t call this a substitute for in-person therapy (full disclosure: in addition to using Talkspace I have an in-person therapist. I also am in school to be a therapist) but it has been an extremely helpful addition to my life. My in-person therapist can’t be there for me all the time but this form of ... what my Talkspace therapist and I think of as “interactive journaling” ... is always there for me when I need it even though the therapist only offers a little feedback twice a day. It’s not what she says so much as having the safe space to express myself and knowing she’s witnessing in a nonjudgmental way. We have a bond even though we’ve never met. I didn’t give TalkspaceTherapyandSupport five stars because the notification system is all screwed up and the tech support seems absent. The price has gone up since I subscribed but this may still be a great value for many. It’s so helpful to be able to write anytime in spite of a busy life. Maybe it would also help people who can’t get out of the home. They do not advertise it but after you’ve been using TalkspaceTherapyandSupport for a while you can switch to a maintenance plan where the therapist checks in once a week and I plan to make that switch soon to save money.

Jill Nelson at Talkspace saved my life

It sounds crazy, I know, but my therapist and TalkspaceTherapyandSupport saved my life. I was able to preserve some anonymity about issues I skirted in many a therapist’s office. Sometimes due to anxiety and stress around going to a therapist office, I would continually reschedule and ultimately never go. I’ve also paid some hefty penalties for forgetting or missing appointments. I know my story isn’t unique. It enabled my husband who also has anxiety to seek help, which I believe saved his life, also. Both of us express ourselves far better in writing than speaking. Please don’t let the idea of therapy impede your recovery. If you don’t feel comfortable revealing who you are like I did, you don’t have to use video chat or photos, but of course that is an option if you choose to use it.

My only issue is that there seems to be a deficit of therapists who are also people of color, and additionally men. My husband is happy with his therapist, but I know he felt badly that he couldn’t seek someone out as a therapist who understands what it is like to be routinely discriminated against because of the color of their skin. Maybe Talkspace as a company could be more proactive in seeking more diversity in hiring.

Please train therapist on text-based sessions

I really like the promise behind TalkspaceTherapyandSupport: getting to talk to your therapist anytime, anywhere. I could text her/him as soon as I’m going trough something. Unfortunately, the experience is more like when you text your friends and they reply when they’re free, hours later, and the conversation is just not the same. I think it puts a lot of expectations on the therapist response. Since they were only going to reply twice a day (sometimes once, always with a single text more like an email response), then the expectation is higher than with an in-person therapist. You expect a message that is going to move the conversation forward faster. But no, it was mostly texts repeating what I said, to make sure she understood and stuff like that. That’s normal in the first sessions of therapy, but at this rate I was going to spend months to make the same progress that I would have made with two in-person sessions. At the end, that’s more expensive. I think there is an audience for this type of therapy, but the execution needs to be better. Train the therapist for a text-based sessions. How can they do things differently in this format? Maybe offering the service to therapist to use in combination with offline sessions? I don’t know. I just know that I had all the intentions and budget to make this a recurrent expense because I know the value of mental health, but it didn’t work for me.

Barely Functional

I could write two pages on how bad this service is. From the $49 a week claim, that is actually $200 per month, to the “text your therapist anywhere, anytime”, which is actually MAYBE two emails a day. You read that right. $200 per month minimum for hopefully two emails per day. You don’t have live access to your therapist at any time and if you’re like me and tend to be on the more severe side of mental illness then TalkspaceTherapyandSupport will be useless to you.

To sum it all up what they do is cram as many patients into as big a group as possible so a “therapist” can invest the least amount of work to extract the greatest amount of profit. Now not to say that they dont give the minimum amount of effort in addressing your problems because they do and some genuinely care about helping you. But the fact remains two emails a day does very little to aid any scenario.

For $200 a month we deserve MUCH more. In my area I can personally meet a therapist face to face for $30 an hour and cover as much ground as talk space would need at least six months to do. The idea is good but the execution is very poor. This is not good online therapy for anyone in its current form. There is absolutely no freebies, credit, or sexual favors you could possibly offer me to make me take even one more day of this pathetic excuse for therapy. Delete your app and end the suffering you are causing all like me and we’ll call it even.

A great service for people with few options

Talkspace is the perfect app for someone like me, who doesn’t stay in one place for very long due to work demands. Prior to using TalkspaceTherapyandSupport, I relied on in-person therapy, and halted that due to my constant travel. But TalkspaceTherapyandSupport has truly changed my life, making it easier than ever to have the therapy I need on my schedule.

There are a few slight drawbacks to be aware of, however. With the full package, you are guaranteed a live video chat once a week. I was not aware that each session was only 30 minutes long until my first session. It also is not a great app if you would like to have therapy at the same time every week. From my experience, it seems that the therapists use their Talkspace clients as “fill-ins” when their in-person clients cancel. This can make it difficult for someone like me who prefers routine.

In the end, TalkspaceTherapyandSupport is a true miracle for those that can’t be in the same geographical location every week. My therapist has been really great, better than any of the in-person therapists I’ve had in the past. She responds to me every weekday, and encourages me to check in with her throughout the week.

Preference and matching

I was really hopeful about TalkspaceTherapyandSupport because Of my schedule and circumstances I can’t easily schedule an appointment in person with a counselor. Most of the comments with higher ratings mentioned a in person therapist and also combining it with online counseling to help which I didn’t do. I felt like it was hard to get that genuine interaction if you don’t pay more to have videos and stuff. I didn’t try another counselor because I’m easily discouraged to begin with so I’m looking elsewhere. They gave the option of switching to a different counselor. So I suggest finding one that works really well with you. With the one I had I didn’t think she answered as frequently as I wanted, like once a day and one text reply, when in an 30min-1hour session would probably be more productive versus a whole month to get one incident resolved. I really needed the immediate conversation to help me look at my situation and sort through my feelings. ONE THING I DISLIKED ALOT: there is a status on when your counselor is AVAILABLE like if they are online or not I guess... and it always said: SHORTLY AVAILABLE. Please don’t. If they aren’t online don’t have it there. Because I msged her and I finally got a response after 5-10 hours. It made me feel like if she was on then she had more important things to discuss with more serious patients minimizing my situation. Like I said once a day, one msg at a time.

1)App closes randomly, 2)Repeated Logins, 3)Only 2min uploads

1)App closes randomly, 2)Repeated Logins, 3)Only 2min uploads

Always great to be able to vent anytime needed and get feedback when the therapist has time to read it and respond.

But, besides having the “right fit” with a therapist there are also TalkspaceTherapyandSupport glitches and rules to contend with at all times.

It freezes when you need to finish a sentence sometimes and closes when you're in the middle of a thought. Won’t let you log in just once, because it’s busy asking you over and over to log in. Even when using simplified fingerprint access.

No video uploads longer than 2 min. So when you have 2:08 min video/audio you have to edit stressful video/audio you've captured with your video app (and need the therapists analytical help with) before being allowed to send each of the smaller bit-edits at ONLY 1 at a time. It can be maddening.

It would be better to allow longer ones. (Allow UP-TO 10 min. Talkspace-Please?)

Long story, short:
It takes too much patience most times; which one rarely has available in emotional emergencies.

So contemporaneous notes and audio can go forgotten and undocumented due to that extra drama caused by a mere app glitch and/or rule stopping you from sending a communication to your therapist when you really feel the NEED to do so.

Disappointing

Therapists only get paid to respond twice a day. Seems completely counterintuitive to a therapy experience, especially considering the wide range of topics users may use this service for. I didn’t opt to try Talkspace to feel more isolated/ignored. While my assigned therapist was nice enough (as nice as two, two sentence responses can be) I won’t be recommending any time soon.

UPDATE: I decided to try TalkspaceTherapyandSupport once more with a different therapist and had an even more disappointing experience. Again, she was very clear with me regarding her hours and when/how frequently I could expect a response. Despite working within her parameters, I only received one response, every other day, in all cases simply repeating what I had shared with her. “I understand you feel...” is not what users expect from a therapist. Similar to another user’s poor experience here, this therapist did nothing to move the conversation forward. God forbid my issues were more serious and had to wait 2 days every time I wrote her, only to get a one-two sentence response summarizing what I had shared in my previous note. This kind of therapy should only be marketed to a very particular audience, not for individuals expecting an actual therapy experience. Otherwise, it’s a total scam.

Scam

TalkspaceTherapyandSupport has portrayed itself as providing you with extremely accessible help, which is attractive for someone with a difficult schedule. In practice however, you cannot even schedule a time to chat with your therapist without getting confirmation from them, which for me has only occurred 24 hours after a message. Additionally, there is no proactivity on the side of the therapist to follow up and schedule a time that works for you.
TalkSpace customer service states that some therapists simply like to keep the schedule in the hands of the customer, which seems like an excuse for getting paid to do absolutely nothing especially with the delays in scheduling an appointment in the first place. For someone who is going through a difficult time mentally, you know that there are ups and downs. I got TalkspaceTherapyandSupport when I was able to seek some help under the impression that someone would be immediately available or at least be a bit responsive. Instead, I now have the financial stress of having to pay over $200/month for the past three months compounding with my underlying issues with no assistance from the customer service team.
If you’re going through a hard time, please avoid TalkSpace. It will only make it worse.

The best therapy for therapy skeptics

For the past few years I’ve had a lot of the usual stressors going on in my life and it finally began to feel like I wasn’t keeping up. I have a good amount of friends, including my partner, tell me how beneficial therapy has been for them even on the simplest level of having “someone to talk to about yourself” who is unbiased and unrelated to your day to day life. I finally took the plunge to try Talkspace despite having a very thin budget (read:nearly nonexistent) and I’m so happy I finally got over the skepticism and concern that maybe it wouldn’t help me. I love knowing I can message my therapist at any time and she’s there to hear my worries and dismantle my fears. This platform is a game changer- it’s made therapy affordable (you pay for one month what some therapists charge an hour) and I promise if you’re open to working towards change you will find it, especially because you don’t have to drive to an office to talk to someone, you can do it comfy in your pjs at home!

Best investment I made in myself in 2017!

I made the decision to try out Talk Space last year around this time when I had some personal goals I knew I wanted to achieve but was getting anxious thinking about where to start or what steps to take. My therapist has been so helpful in giving me an outlet to regularly reflect and think deeply about who I am and how I approach my life and relationships. I love the fact that I can have days/weeks where I message her every day or even multiple times a day or other weeks when I can put it aside and focus on other parts of my life and return later. My schedule right now is so erratic there’s no way I could keep up with a regular in person therapy appointment and there is something another typing that allows me to be more open and vulnerable than I would with a person sitting in front of me. Hands down, joking Talk Space was the best investment I made in myself in 2017. It may not be right for everyone but it’s had a positive impact on me!

Just a bandaid

Talk space is a tiny outlet for the desperate people suffering from serious and often untreatable mental disorders who can’t get any real help from the medical establishment that is incompetent and incapable of curing them. Surprisingly this little app is actually better than seeing some distracted therapist once a week who has no time for you, at least here you get a response almost on a daily basis. I used Talkspace not because I thought it was good but out of desperation, because all therapists were either booked months in advance, or charged $300 an hour and didn’t accept insurance. The scariest thing about having a mental disorder/illness is that very quickly you realize that you’re completely on your own and no one is going to help you. You will spend an enormous amount of money and energy going to specialists who will basically treat you like a guinea pig
for the different drugs they want to try on you to see if they work. They don’t know what they are doing, they just try different combinations until you feel marginally better or commit suicide. The state of mental health treatment in the 21st century is barbaric and inhumane, I’ve never suffered so much in my life. I NEVER felt so hopeless and alone.

Life-Saving

When I signed up to Talkspace, I was going through one of the worst times of my life. I was struggling with severe anxiety and depression, which prevented me from "functioning" properly. I wanted somebody to talk to in between visits to my main therapist. I didn't think that talking to a therapist online would solve the problem, but I liked the idea of getting things off my chest whenever I wanted - especially when the anxiety spirals out of control.

To my surprise, my therapist was much more than a "listener". Danielle was a knowledgeable professional that helped me understand triggers, identify harming thought-patterns, and create coping mechanisms. She's also helped me with "normal" things such as dealing with difficult co-workers and prioritizing work tasks. In a short period of time, my relationship with her evolved so much to the point that I'm closer to her than I am to my other therapist - the one I see once a week. Not only that, my interactions with her have had much more impact on my life.

Fantastic App!

I’ve been using TalkSpace for well over a month now and I’ve really been enjoying my experience with it, so far! The therapist I chose has been excellent and I truly am seeing a change within this short amount of time thanks to all of her practices. I’ve always been against trying new things because I would assume they wouldn’t work just like the previous attempt but my therapist really added a twist to things and opened my eyes.

Yes it’s a bit pricy, but it’s not like we will have to use this for the rest of our lives. I strongly encourage someone who is ready to take the next step towards a healthier mindset to give TalkSpace a try and see for themselves. If you’re new, you’ll even get a discount for your first month! (At least at the time of purchase for me, I was given that option).

I’d be lying if I said performance of TalkspaceTherapyandSupport itself was flawless, it’s a bit all over the place, sometimes with it jumping around when trying to scroll through either my messages or settings, pages getting stuck, not even moving. Just minor things that can be a bit tedious but my 5-star rating is for what TalkspaceTherapyandSupport has done for me, overall.

Again, I recommend TalkspaceTherapyandSupport to anyone wanting a change for the better. There’s nothing wrong with just messaging (you can even make a session if you choose that plan) and it’s just so nice to really let everything out instead of holding it all in.

Really enjoy this

It's difficult for me to leave my house due to numerous health problems. This way I can do it from home, and chat as much as I want and when. To bad insurance won't cover this type of therapy, but it's cheaper a month than my copay is for weekly sessions.

I was paired with a therapist that had gone through similar weight loss surgery so she understood the strain it can be on your body. Although my health declined after the surgery, I don’t blame the surgery. It just allowed my walls to come crashing down and it was time to deal with the inside of myself while my outward appearance changed dramatically. I lost almost 100lbs and didn’t even know who I was when I looked in the mirror.

I get a lot more accomplished this way. I can log on anytime day or night when I need to. This allowed me to voice my problems in the privacy of my home at the time they happened. My therapist always responded that same day, even on most weekends.
